Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)
pizza
I mostly decided to comment on this movie because it makes me think of pizza and I'm starving right now! One time when I was little I ate a whole large pizza while watching this movie. I think this is a classic film that everyone should enjoy. Splinter is a little creepy, but as a whole this movie is great. The costumes are amazing. Kasey is a hilarious character and the ending rap is something I can jam out to the rest of my life. If anyone hasn't seen this movie I strongly recommend they do themselves a favor and watch it. Probably sit down with a pizza or six pop it in and enjoy a timeless classic. If you like a good story and turtles that do karate you will love this movie!
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (2006)
see it.
Borat is hilarious. I was cracking up the whole time. It's kind of sad that the only way to present this subject matter is through extremely inappropriate jokes. The rodeo was soo funny. The character of borat was extremely outrageous. Getting a bear for protection instead of a gun was priceless. Each scene was more and more crazy. This film really pushed the envelope as far racial jokes go. I liked how that the prostitute was one of the only people he was able to treat with respect. The naked wrestling scene was very intense. I liked this movie a lot. I think everyone should watch it. It really puts a mirror up to America and the image is not pretty.
Wet Hot American Summer (2001)
love it
I love this movie! I think this is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a really long time. I loved all the random story lines, and the quirkyness of this movie. The ensemble cast is amazing. Every character is funny. I have always thought summer camp is a great premise for movies, and this one really hit the nail on the head. It reminded me of my own experience at camp. It really captured the feeling you get during camp, which is that everything is a very big deal! I was happy that they had the gay scene because it was a bit shocking, but the best was the friends positive reaction. I think the chase seen in the beginning and the town scene are two of the funniest scenes in the movie. Overall this movie was great!!! Watch it you will not be disappointed!
The Abandoned (2006)
second time around
After seeing this movie at horror fest I was just OK with it. I thought it was good, but not anything to write home about. After seeing the television trailer I decided to give it another shot. I was impressed how much I liked it the second time around. There was a lot I missed in the first viewing. I like how everything comes full circle and how there is a circle of water surrounding the house, and how it plays on the circle of life and everything needing to be completed. I still thought the acting was great. I like how the actors actually play there own doppelgangers it adds to the creep factor. It was crazy to see Nicolai shoot his ghost and then see the bullet go threw his own leg, and when he cauterized his own wound, wow that part made me cringe.I thought that the special effects were another great part of this movie. They were for the most part created by hand instead of by a computer which for me is a lot more affective, ha ha. I'm glad I watched it again I really got a lot more out of it, before i thought the whole daughter in America thing was kind of unnecessary, but i realize it adds a lot to Marie's character. It shows how isolated she has been even from her immediate family. I think this film is definitely worth seeing.
An American Haunting (2005)
Good Job by all
Something funny happened on my way to the movies last night, I asked Mikey and he said he likey. This is one cool film. I was happy to see that it didn't turn out to be another dull horror film, instead "An American Haunting" will take you for a ride of your wits. It is very creepy as strange things happen to family back in history. The movie stood strong with a nice plot outline and the ending was good too. It would have been hard for Courtney Solomon to drop an egg on this one with such a great cast and I give Mr. Solomon and the other producers credit for putting such a well rounded cast together. I did worry a little about the slaves, they were just kind of putt into this as an after thought. Still, I don't know why people on some boards were comparing An American Haunting with the Blair Witch Movie because they were done completely different. This movie had nice effects and is it was extremely creepy.
Saturday Night Fever (1977)
a movie in conflict with itself
having recently seen 'saturdy night fever' for the first time since adolescence i was struck by how much i previously had failed to see in the this movie. when i was a kid 'saturday night fever' was a movie about dancing, about going out, and about being young and with your friends. now, when i see this film, what i see instead is a man grappling with his identity as he separates from the world he was given. despite his realization that there may be more to life then working at the hardware store, travolta's character is unaware that one can evolve without losing sight of who they were. the only figure he has to look to for guidance in this is a woman who has sold out her past in an effort to be bought by the future she believes will save her.
