I adore Kitten Braden
9 September 2006
Saw the film this afternoon and cannot extol its praises quite enough. She/he is a wonderment to me - wish I could meet this creature. So kind, so beautiful, so lovable! It is quite difficult to believe that this story was written by the same person who wrote Butcher Boy - one of the most violent films I have ever seen. Patrick McCabe has to be one of the most unusual writers in the world. This film might seem odd to the conventional, but to me it seems like a wonderland. How could anyone think this person could be anything but what he is. An Angel. I am buying the book now. Cannot get enough of this person. Also, the actor, Cillian Murphy is a huge discovery. More More!

Factotum - All too real
3 September 2006
I just saw the film a few minutes ago and am still living in it - if one can say that. Matt Dillion was inspired. There was one moment, right before he strangles a guy at the racetrack, where he does a double take and looks exactly like his brother Kevin. So it must be genetic, their body action. Bukowski has never been my favorite writer. My dad was a street-guy, hanging out at bars and the like, so his writing is a bit too like my real life, for my taste...but it is the way it is and there was not one fake moment in it. The part with Marisa Tomei was very very good. Lily Taylor was exactly right...and their life together was precisely as seedy as the life of such people is. Go see it while it is still on the big screen and then write your own report. I think Matt looks exactly as he should for this part.

Boynton Beach Good But A Little Too Sweet
3 September 2006
Warning: Spoilers
This film is a surprise from many points of view - the greatest is that the cast is virtually all over 65 as am I. I was appalled to see how most of them have aged. Especially Cannon who seems to be plastic surgeon-ed out of her face - but that is beside the point. They all do a good acting job and I still - the next day - feel quite a bit about the film, as you can see. It is worth the price and the story line is not bad at all but there are a few empty spots without explanation, which might have been avoided. There is a little silliness - but that's OK. Growing old, as they say, is not for sissies and this film shows how much effort goes into just keeping a simple romantic relationship aflame after a certain age. I liked the film but did not love it. I did love the age of the actors. More, please.

A Story That Has The Tendency To Stay With You Through The Years
27 June 2006
This film is so unique. So deep. So odd, you cannot help but love it. I have been searching for it for years. I will never forget it again. These tow actors are exquisite in this film and the storyline, well, it goes into your deepest place and lives there. I adored it. And a floating glass love nest is beyond what most of us can even imagine let alone adore. Please let me know your feelings after you have seen this film. I need to know there are others on earth who love it as i do...I need to know that my taste is not so unusual as to set me apart from the majority of movie fans...but then again, I really do not care. I am a Tim Burton lover, so that about says it...don't you think?

A Heartrending Tale Of Great Beauty
11 June 2006
I could not get this story out of my head for weeks and weeks and I still carry around a certain joy when I think of it. I love the music as well. This is a small film which feels like a very big film. I have never seen Joan Plowright so tender and loving. Rupert Friend is absolutely perfect. Post here after you go and I will check to see if you agree. And I promise I will comment after I read your comments. Go see it as soon as you can. Run! Don't miss it when it comes to your area. I promise you will not be disappointed. If you can find a soundtrack please tell us where it is. The poster is great too. Someone post it!

The Libertine

This film is definitely not for children. For consenting adults only. Johnny usually makes films of a bit more open nature, often for children as well as adults but not this one. It deals with several forms of open sexuality as well as the results of syphilis which are not pretty to see. I enjoyed the film but kept in mind that most critics are calling the cinematography "muddy" which it is. Virtually every scene has a brownish quality. I don't know if that result was as intended or if it was an error. Either way, I went to a typical American film afterward and sort of missed the darker more Eurocentric view.
