Buza (1988)
One of 10 best comedy movies I ever seen...
This film is pure gold and best Croatian comedy of all time. Spiro Guberina and Ivica Vidovic are in their best acting roles as Vito and Pere. In this little TV movie you have all Dalmatian good actors and Arsen Dedic who is composed music score. You like Dalmatian dialect you have it, you like funny scene you got it. Movie have manny great quotes.
This movie is one of 10 best comedy films on my list... If you like good comedy from Europe and from Mediterranean Sea you must see this lovely film.
Only one problem is that movie don't have DVD version....
Wolf Creek (2005)
After TCM (1974) and Hitchhiker we have new nightmare...
I didn't see much good Australian horror movies (only Razorback I can remember) but this is great and the best in realistic slasher genre in last 10 years (like french Haute tension/Switchblade Romance good).. The movie have documentarystic approach and very good Will Gibson Brandon Trosts realistic (nice colors) photography... Film is inspired by real case of Australian murderer Ivan Milat...
***SPILER ALARM*** The best part of the whole movie is when you think that Cassandra Magrath as Liz Hunter will be hero of the movie (something like Marilyn Burns in THC (1974) or Jessica Biel as Erin THC(2003)) when killer kill her in garage in blink of eye (some gore scenes there people you have!!). Her kill make me so gloomily and blue because you see on her that she is fighter, but destiny (read script) have other plains.. Death of old man is great scene (first sniper shoot we don't ever hear and then little boom in wildness and old man get shoot in the eye (like Barry Pepper shoot German sniper in Saving private Ryan)).
Great movie and if you like movies like that see also : - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974) - Haute tension/Switchblade Romance (2003) - Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986) - Black Christmas (1974) - Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) - The Last House on the Left (1972)
The Thing (1982)
Best movie of Carpenter (along with Halloween)
I like Halloween, but my best choice of all John Carpenter movies is The Thing (remake of classic SF movie by Howard Hawks, b/w "The thing from another world" (1951)). I like that movie because he have good aspects of chill, suspect and gore, great cast of actors, and in this move we don't have any female (only voice of computer (voice of cute Adrienne Barbeau)in cast...
The idea of 12 men living in worst and coldest place in Earth, isolated for 3-4 months from any contacts with civilization and then they battle with unknown alien organism.. Thanks for idea that John W. Campbell Jr. and his short SF novel "Who goes there"(one of best SF novels ever)...
The cast was good choice for every character (Kurt Rusell and Keith David are Carpenters house actors, and rest of actors are fine in their work of acting.. Carpenter's movie has second best visual effect I ever seen in my life (Copper try to save Norris when he have cardiac arrest, second best in whole move is 'Dog Canel' scene where Bottin have help from 'dad' of Predator, Terminator & Alien, master of visual effects Stan Winston)..
Kurt Rusell is great as helicopter pilot McReady and this is his best performance ever (sorry Snake Plisken but you are on second place) with his blue eyes, beard and ironic "MIster No" type of thinking), Rob Bottin have his best work thru the whole movie (he was 22 then, and already have fine job in best werewolf move ever "American werewolf in London" by John Landis (1981) and do best visual effect ever "Jack transformation in werewolf" - Oscar winning).
This first Carpenter movie from Apocalypse Trilogy is truly master piece, and have best soundtrack score in SF movie (Razzie Award for Worst Musical Score I don't care) by legend Ennio Morricone (se Sergio Leone movies and you will know what I mean). I like that brooding, menacing bass chords that say to spectator that movie is depressive, paranoia type. Claustofobia elements is very intensive in the movie (like in "Alien" or in "Evil Dead" first two parts) and you have very good aspects of "who is who" and "who is next and who I will trust".
So if you didn't yet see that movie you go on and see it right away (if you like gore scenes you have it plenty)..but if you already watch this peace see then :
The Hidden - look like and very good SF movie with Kyle MacLachlan (he as FBI agent again but still goodlike in Twin Peaks)
The Faculty - ripe off of alien design like "The Thing" but still good SF movie with young excellent actors and good director Robert Rodrigez
The Thing: Terror Takes Shape - documentary movie about the movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers - both versions from 1956 and 1958, great actors and depressive, paranoia type (great ends of both movies is one best in SF and Horror genre).
Play the video game caled "The Thing" and see comics with the same theme.
Factotum (2005)
First real Bukowski movie...
Matt Dillon as Henry Chinaski is great (his best performance yet, little better then his role of Mattew in "The Saint of Fort Washington" from 1993)... He hit jackpot and do great job to play Hery Chinaski (Charles Bukowski alter ego). His Hank in movie is the same character like in the book (young, alcoholic, cynic, lazy)... Dillon role hit the spot like Johnny Depp performance hit the spot with his role of Raul Duke (Hunter S. Thompson's alter ego) in "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas"... You have 2 great actress in the movie : cute Lili Taylor as Jan (yunger than in the book) but great role as Hank's great love (see her good role as Nell in bad "Haunting" where she beat in acting C. Zeta - Jones); and in cameo role Marisa Tomei as Laura.. Bent Hamer made beauty full film with great actors and one of best soundtracks from drama ever (from Me of course)... If you are fan of Bukowski work you will like the movie... If you didn't read any of his great books see the movie then go in book shop and buy Charles Bukowski novels..
Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966)
Great movie!
This is the best western movies ever for me. You have real baditos and pistolero in movie. Eli Wallach role of Tuco is bigger than life and one of the best in film history. Only Henry Fonda maybe can beat Van Cleef for best bad guy in westerns. Great directing from Sergio Leone and his best movie ever... Excellent music by El MAestro Ennio Morricone. And in the end living legend Clint "Man without name" Eastwood play his second best role in his wester movies (first one is role for William Munny)... I like the move when I was 5 years old and I like that same move when I now 27 (I will never forget Morricone music and gunfight Tuco vs. three pistolera on the beginning of the movie..)
