Marvelous Movies of Oz

by Un-muted | created - 28 Nov 2010 | updated - 4 months ago | Public

There are a lot of different Oz-projects. I am very interested in all of them and I thought it would be useful to list them here. Excitement should be shared. All titles, old and new, are chronologically ordered. I do not claim to include all Oz projects ever made.

Cancelled projects: OZ (by the Polish Brothers - thanks to MGM), The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (John Boorman's faithful animated retelling), The Wizard of Oz (Warner Bros remake of the ’39 movie - what were they thinking anyway?), Warriors of Oz (action-adventure miniseries from Syfy by Timur Bekmambetov, which follows a warrior from present day earth who is transported to the future and a post-apocalyptic Oz), Dorothy Must Die (CW drama based upon the young adult novel of the same name by Danielle Paige, in which a young woman from Kansas learns that she is destined to lead the people of Oz in the fight to reclaim their land from a power-hungry Dorothy).

I really liked this NBC series. It had the brains (good casting and storylines), the heart (fascinating characters) and the nerve (dark rather than sugary sweet). But it still lacked something. After years of avoiding spoilers, I finally got the chance to see the musical and I was blown away. It has an incredible score, but also delivers an enthralling story. This is my all-time favourite musical and I cannot wait until this movie is made and I can watch it over and over and over again.

I feel there are many Oz stories left to tell, before Dorothy drops in. As long as they preserve the wonder and improve the acting and character development, I welcome subsequent (pre)sequels.
