1. Martin Scorsese

Producer | Killers of the Flower Moon

Martin Charles Scorsese was born on November 17, 1942 in Queens, New York City, to Catherine Scorsese (née Cappa) and Charles Scorsese, who both worked in Manhattan's garment district, and whose families both came from Palermo, Sicily. He was raised in the neighborhood of Little Italy, which later ...

Been a massive fan of all his collaborations with Robert De Niro, Martin's made some of the best mob films ever and now he's starting to collaborate with Leonardo DiCaprio, what's not to like.

2. Christopher Nolan

Writer | Tenet

Best known for his cerebral, often nonlinear, storytelling, acclaimed Academy Award winner writer/director/producer Sir Christopher Nolan CBE was born in London, England. Over the course of more than 25 years of filmmaking, Nolan has gone from low-budget independent films to working on some of the ...

It was after I first saw Batman begins, that I realised Christopher Nolan has an incredible vision when it comes to directing films. His early works like Insomnia and Memento (which i have not yet seen but am dying to) to his superb successes with The Dark Knight and Inception. Bottom line, why has this man not been knighted yet?

3. Kathryn Bigelow

Director | Zero Dark Thirty

A very talented painter, Kathryn spent two years at the San Francisco Art Institute. At 20, she won a scholarship to the Whitney Museum's Independent Study Program. She was given a studio in a former Offtrack Betting building, literally in an old bank vault, where she made art and waited to be ...

After I watched The Hurt Locker, which instantly became one of my favourite all time war movies. It was when Kathryn won the Academy Award for best director for the movie mentioned above and became the FIRST female director in the history to win the Academy Award, finally! I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more of her future projects,

4. David Fincher

Director | Se7en

David Fincher was born in 1962 in Denver, Colorado, and was raised in Marin County, California. When he was 18 years old he went to work for John Korty at Korty Films in Mill Valley. He subsequently worked at ILM (Industrial Light and Magic) from 1981-1983. Fincher left ILM to direct TV commercials...

Fight Club made the dent in Hollywood for this man, then it was followed with movies like Se7en, Panic Room, The Game and The Social Network. This man is a masterful worker behind the camera, it's only a matter of time before this man gets an Oscar for his work.

5. Quentin Tarantino

Writer | Reservoir Dogs

Quentin Jerome Tarantino was born in Knoxville, Tennessee. His father, Tony Tarantino, is an Italian-American actor and musician from New York, and his mother, Connie (McHugh), is a nurse from Tennessee. Quentin moved with his mother to Torrance, California, when he was four years old.

We all know what made this man's break into hollywood, his career is full of films that have pressed boundaries when it comes to action and violence. This man directed The Godfather parts 1, 2, 3 and Apocalypse Now, what's not to like about him.

7. Stanley Kubrick

Director | 2001: A Space Odyssey

Stanley Kubrick was born in Manhattan, New York City, to Sadie Gertrude (Perveler) and Jacob Leonard Kubrick, a physician. His family were Jewish immigrants (from Austria, Romania, and Russia). Stanley was considered intelligent, despite poor grades at school. Hoping that a change of scenery would ...

Stanley Kubrick with his impeccable cinematic visions turned hollywood on its head with some of his brilliant films. One of my all time favourites of his is Full Metal Jacket, a hardcore portrayal of being trained in a reserve camp and then being shipped off to experience the spoils of war. Stephen King wasn't happy with the version of which Kubrick released onto screens of The Shining, so he made his own vision of it. Personally I think Kubrick's version blows King's version out of the water.

8. Brian De Palma

Director | Body Double

Brian De Palma is one of the well-known directors who spear-headed the new movement in Hollywood during the 1970s. He is known for his many films that go from violent pictures, to Hitchcock-like thrillers. Born on September 11, 1940, De Palma was born in Newark, New Jersey in an Italian-American ...

Brian De Palma, the name of a director with an amazingly broadened perspective behind a camera. With cinematic masterpiece Scarface to his directing credits and a list that keeps going on. From The Untouchables to Carlito's Way and Mission: Impossible, he is a directing maestro and a master of the mob genre.

9. Sidney Lumet

Director | 12 Angry Men

He made over 40 movies, often complex and emotional, but seldom overly sentimental. Although ...

10. Steven Spielberg

Producer | Schindler's List

One of the most influential personalities in the history of cinema, Steven Spielberg is Hollywood's best known director and one of the wealthiest filmmakers in the world. He has an extraordinary number of commercially successful and critically acclaimed credits to his name, either as a director, ...

Well, let me see. Steven Spielberg, besides from being the most recognisable Director/Producer in the WORLD today, this man has made the definitive films to fully back that up. Some of his sensational screen gems include; Saving Private Ryan, Schindler's List, E.T. Extra Terrestrial, Duel, Transformers etc. There is pretty much no genre this legend has not touched upon during his time, but one thing's for sure, it's going to take another amazing individual to A: Reach his masterful level and B: Overtake and become even more well recongised.

11. Edward Zwick

After I saw American Beauty I became a sucker for anything else this man has directed, funnily the most recent thing I've seen is Skyfall, which I thought was just brilliant. I am really looking forward to seeing what else this man had install in the upcoming years.
