Outdated for 2018. However, gay cinema has left behind the youth of today. Most gay films these days are past the acceptance part of being gay and are moving towards more "relevant" topics that gay men may be facing or subject to in their daily lives. Sure, that's fine, but in recent memory, in a world where more kids are coming out, it's important that this film exists in this increasingly mature gay cinema landscape.
It's for the kids. It may not be for me, but nevertheless, it's for the kids.

Probably the German film that gave Germany the title of "gay cinema leader of the world". Germany has always created exceptional gay films on topics beyond what the United States has been able to offer, dealing with more sensitive subject matter, especially going against ideas of masculinity and gender roles.
This film certainly made me excited for what Germany has to offer. Their film festivals for LGBTQ+ cinema makes every other country envious.

It's interesting how critics bashed this film, yet has an interestingly large cult following from gay men around the world.
I get it. I've watched tons of horrible gay films and Latter Days, despite being cheaply made, is nowhere near as bad. Plus, the two leads *do* have chemistry so I guess that makes up for it.
