1. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)

PG-13 | 133 min | Action, Adventure, Sci-Fi

65 Metascore

In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction.

Director: Gareth Edwards | Stars: Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Alan Tudyk, Donnie Yen

Votes: 686,995 | Gross: $532.18M

Fan service as a substitute for filmmaking. Slow; boring; underdeveloped characters; shot too dark - I only enjoyed the last 45 minutes.

2. Caddyshack (1980)

R | 98 min | Comedy, Sport

48 Metascore

An exclusive golf course has to deal with a flatulent new member and a destructive dancing gopher.

Director: Harold Ramis | Stars: Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Bill Murray, Ted Knight

Votes: 127,242 | Gross: $39.85M

I didn't laugh at any of the jokes and found the story more picaresque than coherent. Great talent totally wasted, in my opinion

3. Blazing Saddles (1974)

R | 93 min | Comedy, Western

73 Metascore

In order to ruin a western town, a corrupt politician appoints a black Sheriff, who promptly becomes his most formidable adversary.

Director: Mel Brooks | Stars: Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Slim Pickens, Harvey Korman

Votes: 152,587 | Gross: $119.50M

Without Richard Pryor, this movie just feels weird and off, and all I can think of while watching it is how unfortunate he didn't get to be in it. There is one joke I like in it, and no, it's not the flatulence.

4. McLintock! (1963)

Passed | 126 min | Comedy, Western

62 Metascore

Wealthy rancher G. W. McLintock uses his power and influence in the territory to keep the peace between farmers, ranchers, land-grabbers, Indians and corrupt government officials.

Director: Andrew V. McLaglen | Stars: John Wayne, Maureen O'Hara, Patrick Wayne, Stefanie Powers

Votes: 16,625

Though he's made many better films (and its director hasn't made any), I think John Wayne's star image is greatly defined by this lowbrow, misogynistic anachronism. At least now I know why I've never been a fan.

5. Diner (1982)

R | 110 min | Comedy, Drama

82 Metascore

A group of college-age buddies struggle with their imminent passage into adulthood in 1959 Baltimore.

Director: Barry Levinson | Stars: Steve Guttenberg, Mickey Rourke, Kevin Bacon, Daniel Stern

Votes: 22,839 | Gross: $14.10M

Okay boomer, you have your movie. Old white guys rejoice!

6. Top Gun (1986)

PG | 109 min | Action, Drama

50 Metascore

As students at the United States Navy's elite fighter weapons school compete to be best in the class, one daring young pilot learns a few things from a civilian instructor that are not taught in the classroom.

Director: Tony Scott | Stars: Tom Cruise, Tim Robbins, Kelly McGillis, Val Kilmer

Votes: 503,007 | Gross: $179.80M

I didn't get what the big deal was back in the '80s, and even less so when I rewatched it after everyone made a big deal of the sequel too. Who knows?

7. Flashdance (1983)

R | 95 min | Drama, Music, Romance

39 Metascore

An 18-year-old female amateur dancer who performs nightly at a dancing bar, and works as a welder during the day, dreams of joining the Pittsburgh ballet school.

Director: Adrian Lyne | Stars: Jennifer Beals, Michael Nouri, Lilia Skala, Sunny Johnson

Votes: 59,598 | Gross: $94.90M

Neither the acting nor the sparse story (which was originally about a strip club) are impressive, and its copious use of body doubles for its famous final dance sequence make it clear that the '80s were a time where hype started counting way more than quality.
