Worst Television Characters

Janice Soprano- The Sopranos

Nothing against Aida at all, the character was written to be awful and she nailed it. She did such a good job though that watching any scene with Janet is nails on a chalkboard.

Lana Lang- Smallville

Amy- Superstore

I just want to preface this again that this list is about the characters not the actors/actresses themselves.

Superstore is one of my favorite shows of the 20's so far, but I really struggle with how the writers/America did such a horrible job writing the lead of the show. Amy as a character is very inconsistent from episode to episode. One episode she's all business/serious and the next episode she's doing pranks over the intercom or riding a canoe through the store. Some episodes she takes on social justice issues and then the very next episode she's towing the company line completely disregarding the causes she was fighting against in earlier episodes.

I also don't find the character funny, and the supporting characters do most if not all of the heavy lifting in her scenes. I understand she was written as the "straight man" of the show to counterbalance the wacky side characters but come on give her something funny or appealing.

Several times throughout the series there's episodes where an episode will follow Amy outside the store, such as helping her parents move, management training, or at a conference. These are some of the worst episodes in my opinion because the strength of the show is the store itself and the interactions with the customers or employees so essentially when there's a scene outside the store you lose the essence of the show.

Nellie Bertram- The Office

Lisa Simpson- The Simpsons

Takeshi Kovacs- Altered Carbon

Joel Kinneman killed it as Tak Kovacs in Season 1, but when Anthony Mackie took over the reigns in Season 2 his interpretation ruined the show for me. Mackie was completely robotic and showed no emotional range other than anger which was the complete opposite of Kinneman's version. Whether it was just bad writing, bad acting, or a comibination of both.

Bran Stark- Game of Thrones

Diane Chambers- Cheers

James Olsen- Supergirl

Mark Brendanawicz- Parks and Recreation

Just bland and unfunny and not really a fit for the show.

Larry Bloom- Orange is the New Black

Jenny Williams- Workin' Moms

There was really no redeemable qualities about this character, she was truly an awful person all around.

Enrique 'Kiki' Camarena- Narcos Mexico

Michael Pena's a great actor so this rating isn't a reflection of him. Kiki constantly put his family at risk to fight a drug war in a different country. He treated his son like crap, making fun of him how he played baseball, nearly missed his daughters birth to chase down a maurijuana field and was constantly abandoning his pregnant wife. This character just showed no redeeming qualities, and in a show full of villians, Kiki bothered me the most. Kiki was supposed to be the "hero" of the story but his ego and drive to make a name for himself probably caused the most deaths.

I'm not sure if this character was historically accurate or not but this character was overwhelmingly stupid and made every incorrect decision possible. I understand not knowing the severity of the disaster because of the witholding of information by the soviet government but even an average citizen should have had the knowledge that radiation equals bad. Instead she's running behind barriers, lying about not being pregnant, and ignoring nurse instructions to not touch her husband.

Peggy Olsen- Mad Men

Nick- Atypical

Claire Fisher- Six Feet Under

Half the series she's an angsty teenager the other half a pretentious art student. I feel it's lazy writing not giving young adults any depth besides bouncing between relationships and dialog where they hate everything and bring nothing but negativity. Her storylines were uninteresting and were a chore to get through, particularly her art school scenes.
