My favorite of the Amy episodes, for sure. Something about this episode is very quintessentially Doctor Who to me: just the emotion, the plot, the setting... this one blows me away. The all white rooms, the handbots, this episode just gives me chills.

Votes: 11,110

As my sibling said to me... "Moffat is good in small doses". The plot of this one is really cool and great. The cuts back to the "saved" people is so surreal and great. The shadow monsters are really damn terrifying and great. This episode and its other half both play out brilliantly.

Director: Nick Hurran | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston

Votes: 9,064

A fitting, beautiful end for Rory and Amy. Another one where all the time rules are absolutely ridiculous, but it's really great still. Fantastic ending.

Episode: Midnight (2008)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Director: Alice Troughton | Stars: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Billie Piper, Rakie Ayola

Votes: 10,089

I love how understated this episode is. The underlying threat is never understood at all, not really, there's never really a moment where everything makes sense. It's just surreal, and weird, and creepy.

Episode: Gridlock (2007)

Director: Richard Clark | Stars: David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, Ardal O'Hanlon, Anna Hope

Votes: 7,969

I love the concept and visuals of this episode so much. This one is another episode that feels very Doctor Who to me. The existential horror of the decades-long traffic jam with that terrifying reveal... I love it. All of the minor characters in the cars are great too. I love how much personality went into the set design of every car.

21. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: New Earth (2006)

The Doctor and Rose arrive on New Earth and meet old friends and enemies in a hospital which can cure every disease. But the cures come at a terrible cost.

Director: James Hawes | Stars: David Tennant, Billie Piper, Camille Coduri, Noel Clarke

Votes: 7,962

Yeah, I perhaps have a pretty large bias towards Lady Cassandra. She's one of my favorite minor characters. This episode is just so freaky too, it gets under your skin in a fantastic way. The pandemic people are terrifying, but the conclusion is fantastic.

22. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The God Complex (2011)

TV-PG | 49 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Doctor, Amy and Rory become trapped in a hotel of horrors unable to escape and unable to find the TARDIS. The Doctor must save as many people as he can taking many twists and seeing his own worst fear.

Director: Nick Hurran | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Sarah Quintrell

Votes: 6,509

One of my favorite settings, ever, feels ripped straight out of my nightmares. The editing and direction in this one is really fantastic and really stands out to me. I feel like the ending is kind of weak, and I wish we could've seen even more of the hotel, but conceptually this is one of my favorites. So freaky and cool.

23. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Journey's End (2008)

TV-PG | 63 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Director: Keith Boak | Stars: Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, Camille Coduri, Noel Clarke

Votes: 10,445

More Rose bias and more 9th Doctor bias. What a great start to the show. The mannequin people are fun to watch, if not a bit derivative.

25. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Lodger (2010)

TV-PG | 43 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

After the TARDIS teleports without him, the doctor tries to find out what is stopping it from landing and traces it to a seemingly ordinary, two storey house.

Director: Catherine Morshead | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, James Corden, Daisy Haggard

Votes: 7,314

After a run of a bunch of episodes I found to be absolutely terrible, with series 5 being pretty mediocre overall, this episode was great to me. I feel like the 11th Doctor's personality actually gets to shine here, as opposed to him being kind of a huge ass in previous episodes. I really love these tamer episodes where the Doctor finds himself just having to live casually. It's so goofy and funny, I really love it.

26. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Impossible Planet (2006)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

When the Doctor and Rose become stranded on a planet orbiting a black hole, they find a human expedition crew and their servants, the Ood, being terrorised by the Devil.

Director: Colin Teague | Stars: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Phil Cornwell, Karen Gillan

Votes: 7,861

A cool usage of the time stuff and a good answer to the "why doesn't the Doctor just save everyone" question. The reveal at the end is really quite good.

28. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Pandorica Opens (2010)

TV-PG | 49 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

River Song returns to deliver The Doctor a serious warning from his allies: the mythical Pandorica, said to contain the most feared creature in the entire Universe, is opening.

Director: Toby Haynes | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Alex Kingston, Arthur Darvill

Votes: 8,209

I really do feel like Moffat's writing style is just throwing so many cool weird scenes at the wall and just going so quickly through them that the viewer doesn't get a moment to even consider if it makes any sense or not. And, admittedly, it works, this episode is cool and weird and awesome. Does it really makes sense, fuck no, not at all, but man I really still found it to be very entertaining.

29. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Big Bang (2010)

TV-PG | 54 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Pandorica opened, silence fell, and now planet Earth is left alone in the universe. Jumping through time, the doctor must figure out a way to bring back those who never were and save his friends from the collapse of reality.

Director: Toby Haynes | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Alex Kingston, Arthur Darvill

Votes: 8,432

I have essentially just the same thoughts as I do the first half of this two-parter.

30. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Planet of the Ood (2008)

TV-PG | 48 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Finding themselves on the Ood-Sphere planet in the 42nd century, The Doctor and Donna discover the truth over the Ood's willingness to serve humankind.

Director: Graeme Harper | Stars: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Tim McInnerny, Ayesha Dharker

Votes: 7,511

I really love the Ood in this episode and just generally. I love the reveal. However, why do the Ood celebrate Donna and the Doctor when it was clearly that other guy who gets shot who is to thank? I don't know, but, nonetheless I really like this one.

31. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The End of the World (2005)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Doctor takes Rose on her first voyage through time, to the year five billion and the end of planet Earth.

Director: Euros Lyn | Stars: Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, Simon Paisley Day, Yasmin Bannerman

Votes: 9,188

Probably ranked so high just as a product of my bias towards the 9th Doctor, Rose, and Lady Cassandra, who are all some of my favorite characters.

32. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The End of Time: Part Two (2010)

TV-PG | 75 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

With almost everyone on Earth now recast in his image, The Master controls the Earth. He's shocked however when he realises one person hasn't changed; Donna Noble. The Doctor soon ... See full summary »

Director: Euros Lyn | Stars: David Tennant, John Simm, Bernard Cribbins, Timothy Dalton

Votes: 7,282

Yeah I kind of really don't like The Master as a villain, and I really prefer when Gallifrey and the Doctor's past is completely in the past, so I really just don't like a lot of this. The Doctor is FANTASTIC here though and damn, that ending, yeah, pretty heartbreaking. So conceptually this one is frustrating but really it's pretty great anyway.

33. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Runaway Bride (2006)

TV-PG | 60 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Doctor is baffled when a young woman is transported to the TARDIS on her wedding day, and attempts to find out how she is connected to an alien plot to destroy Earth.

Director: Euros Lyn | Stars: David Tennant, Catherine Tate, Sarah Parish, Don Gilet

Votes: 8,027

Man Donna is really the best. She's so great in this episode. I really love how she's... sort of unpleasant, but not really. The Racnoss is fucking great too, and Lance, this one is just so fun to watch. Hilarious and weird and action-packed, this one is great.

34. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Smith and Jones (2007)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

When medical student Martha Jones meets a mysterious stranger called The Doctor, and finds herself transported to the moon, her life will never be the same again.

Votes: 8,266

Jesus fucking Christ the Silence scare the shit out of me. How absolutely terrifying they are conceptually. I love them, holy shit. This is another episode where so many things happen it makes you start to question whether or not any of it actually makes sense. The weird cliffhanger where Amy shoots the astronaut and then that's just ignored is odd. The entire timeskip of 3 months is just weird. Like, they set up everything, and then they show the conclusion, but it feels like stuff is missing or goes unexplained? It's a bit weird. Really, really cool though.

An episode where stuff that we can guess was planned at some point just sort of happens? And damn, they really actually never do end up saving that baby, which is uh... I don't know. The River Song reveal is, I mean... sure, I guess, why not. The whole Melody Pond/River Song thing is just, iffy and weird... It's undoubtedly a very cool episode, and I love Amy and Rory here but it's also... iffy.

The first Christmas special to actually feel Christmasy. This one is sweet. Probably not something I'm interested in ever rewatching, but really sweet nonetheless.

Director: Douglas Mackinnon | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Mark Williams

Votes: 6,440

Another great one where the Doctor is confronted with the horrors of domestic life. I feel like this Doctor is a lot goofier than the previous two incantations? Like, they both would probably find this to be stupid as fuck. I really love The Doctor playing Wii Tennis though, holy shit. The cubes are so weird and freaky too. My only issue is how easily this episode resolves. Everything just sort of fixes itself really easily for no reason. It felt like it was meant to be a two parter that got cancelled so they had to awkwardly cap off the rest of the episode.

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Director: Colin Teague | Stars: David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, John Barrowman, John Simm

Votes: 8,179

Yeah I really do not like The Master. The buildup to him with the fob watch is really cool but I actually am just not that into him as a villain. This episode is alright, definitely better than the other half, but it's not my favorite of the finales.

Director: James Hawes | Stars: David Tennant, Billie Piper, Noel Clarke, Anthony Head

Votes: 8,501

This one feels kinda forgettable to me. It's not bad or anything, but I'm just not into this one.

Really not the most over the top fantastic of Doctor Who but uh... this episode scares me. A lot. I can't explain why. This episode terrified the shit out of me.

Director: Farren Blackburn | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Claire Skinner

Votes: 6,421

Really cute, sweet episode. I like Madge. I like the ending too. The Doctor is, possibly a bit too goofy for my liking here, but it's a nice episode.

60. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Unquiet Dead (2005)

Director: Saul Metzstein | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Rupert Graves

Votes: 6,864

This one is fun. The dinosaurs, Rory's dad, Nefertiti... I feel like it's really not that great overall but it's still fun.

62. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: 42 (2007)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

On a spaceship headed straight for the centre of the sun, the Doctor only has 42 minutes to save Martha and the ship's crew from an inevitable doom.

Director: Graeme Harper | Stars: David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, Michelle Collins, Adjoa Andoh

Votes: 7,116

Really just uninteresting, it doesn't stand out in any meaningful way. It's not bad per se, and I do really like some of the scenes with the 10th Doctor and Martha, but it's kinda forgettable.

63. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Snowmen (2012)

TV-PG | 60 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

London, 1892. Snow is evolving, turning into icy monstrosities, but this is no concern for the Doctor who has given up trying to save the universe, leaving it to a clever young governess named Clara to save the day.

Director: Saul Metzstein | Stars: Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, Tom Ward, Richard E. Grant

Votes: 7,528

Clara is fun and great, but so much of this episode doesn't really make that much sense at all. It's slow and awkwardly paced at some points, too. I love the Doctor's friends though who are sticking around him, that Sontaran and the lizard-human couple. Not really sure their backstory but they're fun to see.

64. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Planet of the Dead (2009)

A meeting in a London bus with jewel thief Lady Christina takes a turn for the worst for the Doctor when the bus takes a detour to a desert-like planet, where the deadly Swarm awaits.

Director: James Strong | Stars: David Tennant, Michelle Ryan, Lee Evans, Noma Dumezweni

Votes: 5,653

A fine special but nothing that great. I like those fly people and the setting in the desert. It feels fairly fillery, but it's harmless enough.

Episode: The Unicorn and the Wasp (2008)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

I mean, okay I guess? It's kinda cool but also, uh. Weird, and not really in a good way.

Episode: Voyage of the Damned (2007)

TV-PG | 71 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Director: James Strong | Stars: David Tennant, Kylie Minogue, Geoffrey Palmer, Russell Tovey

Votes: 7,984

Another fillery Doctor Who special. The fact that there is a space Titanic is fucking hilarious, and I love how the Doctor just runs with it and puts on a tuxedo. But the ending is, stupid. Not a fan of it.

67. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Last of the Time Lords (2007)

TV-PG | 50 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

It's been a year since The Master unleashed the mysterious Toclafane onto Earth. With the human race and The Doctor enslaved under The Master's control, Martha Jones is the only person that can help stop the evil Time Lord.

Directors: Colin Teague, Graeme Harper | Stars: David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, John Barrowman, John Simm

Votes: 8,417

A really frustrating finale honestly. I hate the one year timeskip, I really do hate it, it feels very not right. The Doctor spends most of the time as his weird crumpled up version... it's uncomfortable. The Master is also one of my least favorite villains in the show. Also, the ending is just, god, so stupid.

68. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Next Doctor (2008)

TV-PG | 60 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Doctor arrives in London on Christmas Eve in 1851 where he encounters the Cybermen and a man who claims he's a Time Lord called the Doctor.

Director: Andy Goddard | Stars: David Tennant, David Morrissey, Dervla Kirwan, Velile Tshabalala

Votes: 5,647

The plot with the Cybermen and the villain both suck and feel shoehorned in. But, I love the fake Doctor character a lot, he is great. And the very end, where he convinces the Doctor to stay for dinner is great too.

69. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Amy's Choice (2010)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

Five years after finally leaving the TARDIS, Amy and Rory, now married, live in the quiet little village of Leadworth; but everything is not what it would seem.

Director: Catherine Morshead | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Toby Jones

Votes: 7,374

The concept here is really cool and I honestly really love it in that regard but I really hate every single 11th Doctor-Rory dick-measuring contest episode. They just aren't fun to watch.

Episode: Let's Kill Hitler (2011)

TV-PG | 49 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The search for Melody Pond brings the Doctor and his friends to Berlin in 1938, face-to-face with Adolf Hitler, River Song and a justice-serving, shapeshifting robot.

Director: Richard Senior | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston

Votes: 6,952

This whole episode is just one long "uhhhh, okay" from me. Why does it take place in Nazi Germany? I guess to line up the punishment bots with the Doctor and River but, still..? Man I am also just not that into River Song as a character. This one is iffy.

71. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: World War Three (2005)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Slitheen have infiltrated Parliament and have the Doctor and his friends trapped as the Doctor works to prevent them from starting World War Three.

Director: Keith Boak | Stars: Christopher Eccleston, Billie Piper, David Verrey, Camille Coduri

Votes: 8,055

Man the fucking people aliens. The slitheen look goofy as absolute fuck. This episode honestly though all things considered is a guilty pleasure of mine. Harriet Jones is fucking great here, I love Mickey and Jackie, and the Doctor is cool here too. I also really love the effect of the aliens unzipping. But, Jesus Christ, farting aliens that take over London that then get nuked... uh, okay. uh. sure.

Episode: Aliens of London (2005)

73. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: Vincent and the Doctor (2010)

TV-PG | 47 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Doctor and Amy travel back in time to meet Vincent Van Gogh and face an invisible monster that only the painter can see.

Director: Jonny Campbell | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Tony Curran, Nik Howden

Votes: 12,704

I really don't like how this one goes about things. Taking Vincent van Gogh and showing him how well his art gets received just doesn't feel like how Doctor Who does things. In fact, the Doctor before has shown that he doesn't do this, with keeping Agatha Christie's legacy a secret from her. I'm not too invested in the logic and lore and keeping that consistent, but it just feels like cheap emotionality.

74. Doctor Who (2005–2022)
Episode: The Sontaran Stratagem (2008)

TV-PG | 45 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

UNIT's newest recruit Martha Jones enlists The Doctor's help to investigate kid genius Luke Rattigan and his ATMOS system that is used in every car on Earth.

I guess I'm just not that into the historical ones. It's fine enough.

TV-PG | 43 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

A solar tsunami sends the TARDIS crew to an acid mining factory in the 22nd century, where a small team of workers come under attack from their doppelgangers.

Director: Julian Simpson | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Mark Bonnar

Votes: 6,140

I actually really love the concept here, it's so weird and cool, but Jesus Christ this episode and its other half spends so much time spinning its wheels. Maybe it should've been a single episode? It feels like a lot of scenes in both episodes were added just for padding. I do though really love the two Doctors at the same time. The reveal that the Doctors had switched places was pretty easy to see coming, but oh man, that reveal with Amy was insane. Loved that.

Director: Euros Lyn | Stars: David Tennant, Billie Piper, Nina Sosanya, Abisola Agbaje

The effect of the people being pulled into the TV is cool, and the faceless people are so freaky, but the rest of this episode just really isn't that great.

Episode: The Time of Angels (2010)

TV-PG | 42 min | Adventure, Drama, Sci-Fi

The Doctor and Amy emerge from the TARDIS to find the wreck of the Byzantium spaceship. Down below the Weeping Angels are stirring, but the Doctor has someone else to contend with; none other than the mysterious Professor River Song.

Director: Adam Smith | Stars: Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, Alex Kingston, Simon Dutton

Votes: 8,122

The Doctor is a huge ass in this episode and its previous ones, and they just decide to make the Angels make no sense. Like, what the hell? I'm not one to usually care much about adherence to any real lore, I prefer an episode to prioritize the experience of watching and not the hard logic of the world, but Jesus Christ, looking at the angels in the eyes makes them go into your brain? the fuck? The angels won't attack if they think you can see them? That is not how this works, that is not how any of this works!

I really cannot put into words how much I hate sci-fi TV episodes where the ending is just "Humans... bad!" This episode is so annoying. I actively dislike this one. I hate how you know what is going to happen right from the moment they take the alien as hostage. I hate the ending. God, this one is stupid.

This episode made me legitimately hate the 11th Doctor. He is such an asshole here, just ordering them around, being a dick to Rory... Jesus Christ, the part where The Doctor pulls out a big flashlight and he pulls out a small one. God. So stupid. I do not find the Rory/Doctor pissing contest to be fun to watch at all. I really hate this episode. Rory and Amy are so much better to watch together once they're married.
