Japan was one of the big winners at the 96th Academy Awards (2024) taking two Oscars for Visual Effects and Best Animated Feature Film.

Each of these awards went to one of the biggest symbols of Japanese cinema in the world.

Godzilla debuted in 1954 and has been appearing in movies, TV and comics ever since. He is known as The King of Monsters and is the most famous Kaiju of the country, spearheading the movies about giant monsters. It took the visual effects Oscar for Gojira -1.0 (2023).

Hayao Miyazaki is an animator and director founder of Studio Ghibli, his acclaimed films have taken Japanese animation all over the world and are critically acclaimed. He took the Best Animated Feature Oscar for Kimitachi wa dô ikiru ka (2023).
