With a new story faithful to the spirit of the 1933 original, Kong Skull Island is a roaring, chest-pounding triumph. After a WWII-set prologue on an uncharted island in the Pacific, Kong Skull Island jumps ahead to 1973. Scientist Bill Randa (John Goodman) of the same Project Monarch (one of several reference to the recent Warner Bros Godzilla reboot) persuades a senator (Richard Jenkins) to let him convene a military team to help survey a mystical, skull-shaped island. This crew includes freelance mercenary James Conrad (Tom Hiddleston), hotheaded Army colonel Preston Packard (Samuel L. Jackson) and photojournalist Mason Weaver (Brie Larson) who brags about having helped turn public opinion against the waning Vietnam War. The rest of the ethnically diverse lineup includes Toby Kimmel as a doomed grunt (we know he’s toast because he writes a letter home to his son), John Ortiz as a scared Monarch exec, and Tian Jing as…...

YouTube powerhouse Toby Turner (whose video game-oriented channel, TobyGames is consistently one of the Top 50 Most Viewed YouTube Channels each and every week) began his crowdfunding quest for $240,000 on May 21, 2013. The 28-year-old in possession of an aggregate 10.7+ million subscribers across his three channels on the world’s largest video sharing site sought to raise the nearly quarter-million dollars on Indiegogo to fund the production of the first of what he hopes will be many video games related to his Tobuscus Adventures animated series. Now, 30-some-odd days later, Turner’s crowdfunded adventure has concluded, and the results are nothing short of epic. The campaign raised a total of $642,779 from no less than 11,584 individuals. That amount - roughly 267% more than the original goal - will fund not only the production of an Ios iteration of Tobuscus Adventures: Wizards, but Android and PC versions, a Gryphon mini-game (Fyi: Gryphon is Toby’s dog...

A good movie tagline can, at the very least, help in the promotion of a film. But what about when it goes wrong? Er…
The art of the movie tagline is a tricky one that generally involves locking clever people into a room until they come up with something catchy. Yet, sometimes the coffee machine isn't working. Everyone is in a bad mood. There's no Toby Ziegler figure to come in and solve everything.
And that's when you end up with this collection of oddities. Here, we're looking at taglines that just do little to sell the film. In all truth, we quite like some of the ones we're about to show you (Hombre is a corker). But do they do their job? Er, not really.

This Charlton Heston-headlined 1974 disaster movie was, in fairness, released at a point where poster taglines were just a little bit minimal.

If your favorite part of Lord of the Rings is Bilbo and Gandalf puffing on "Old Toby, the finest weed in Southfarthing," well, have I got a movie for you!
Your Highness may very well be the first film to take a Cheech and Chong-level love for getting stoned and place it square in the middle of a legitimate sword and sorcery quest. Wizards, maidens, unicorn swords, labyrinths and bloodshot-eye humor are packed firmly into a bowl, ignited, and, by some miracle of alchemy, transformed into something that is very funny and, by and large, exciting.
Danny McBride, further cementing himself as the slacker child of Bob Hope and Larry the Cable Guy, is the Kingdom's second prince to a noble, Errol Flynn-ish James Franco. Whilst Franco is off on a quest, McBride is sulking around the castle humiliating his manservant Courtney, played with wonderful "Kif"-ness by Rasmus Hardiker.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is 72-years-old and it is coming home in a bright and shiny Blu-ray high-definition transfer that is simply a must own for any fan of 2-D animation and a requirement for any Disney buff. This is the third classic Disney feature to hit Blu-ray along with Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio and like those two it is simply beautiful. The package includes a two-disc Blu-ray Diamond Edition release and also includes a single disc DVD for those that may be looking to adopt Blu-ray in the future or may want the DVD edition to keep the kids entertained in the car. Disney is also doing something a little different with this release and making it available in both Blu-ray and DVD style packaging supposedly so it will fit in better with the rest of your collection. I guess that would make sense if you didn't own any other Blu-rays,...

Truth be told, I was never a big fan of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. A lot of that has to be ascribed to my dislike of Adriana Caselotti’s voice as the title character. The songs remain wonderful and the animation a delight. I do have to give Walt Disney a lot of credit for ignoring the nay-sayers who felt people would never sit through a feature-length animated film. Of course back then, people were still figuring out what audiences would or would not do. Back then, no doubt, some still regretted adding sound.
The basic children’s fairy tale was simplified for the 1937 film, starting with the excising of Snow’s mother in favor of just presenting the wicked stepmother. When the Queen tries to do away with Snow White, it took her three attempts which Walt cut down to just the poisoned apple. On the other hand,...

Alvin and the Chimpmunks isn't a movie that I would rush out to see at my local cinema..... but it seems that I am one of the few as the first movie, released back in 2007 made a whopping $300 million worldwide. It's no surprise then that a sequel or in this case, the 'Squeakquel' has been created and today we have a new trailer, poster and release date for you. You'll be able to see 'Alvin and The Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel' on Boxing Day in the UK and I've embedded the trailer after the jump and you can click the poster to enlarge.
Synopsis: ‘Alvin and The Chipmunks 2: The Squeakquel’ brings back our favorite furry brothers, Alvin, Simon and Theodore. Because of a freak accident involving Alvin and Dave Seville, they go to live with Dave Seville’s cool cousin Toby and must enroll in school just like every other kid.

Thankfully, the mostly mediocre TV movie reunions recapitulating past series are extinct, but the ongoing effort to reincarnate many hits of the 1960s-1990s as either “reimagined” new TV shows or big-budget movies continues. Alas, for every good film version (Star Trek, The Fugitive, Get Smart, the Addams Family movies, Maverick, George Of The Jungle), there are plenty of awful ones (The Mod Squad, Dudley Do-right, The Beverly Hillbillies, McHale’S Navy, Car 54, Where Are You?). And for every hit (Charlie’S Angels, the Mission: Impossible movies, Starsky & Hutch, The Untouchables, Dukes Of Hazzard, Dragnet), there are lotsa misses (The Avengers, Land Of The Lost,...

Pinocchio is now the oldest movie I own on Blu-ray with Casablanca being the second oldest by two years. However, watching the film you would never assume it was 69-years-old (for some reason this is called the 70th Anniversary edition though). It is a testament to Disney's storage and restoration process considering I have films on DVD from the '50s that don't look half as good. Disney has followed up on the terrific transfer of last year's Sleeping Beauty on Blu-ray with another gem in Pinocchio and it makes me look forward that much more to reviewing Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs when it debuts on Blu-ray this Fall. Owning these films on high-definition Blu-ray makes you feel like you are taking part in preserving film history and I am not sure these films will ever look better. I don't see how they could. This was the first...

Rather than distort the original theatrical image, Walt Disney Studios' classic animated features have historically been tagged with black bars on the sides when played on widescreen TV sets. However, some fans have complained that the bars take away from their viewing experience. So, starting with "Pinocchio" due March 10th, animator Toby Bluth has created "decorative" bars, dubbed Disney View, which will frame the Blu-ray version. The standard DVD edition will continue to use plain black bars. "It supports the film, and is at most an accompaniment," said Bluth, who created 16 sets of Disney View bars for "Pinocchio." "There aren't any panels that distract from the film. They are like theatrical set pieces framing the action." Disney View is expected to be used with the studio's next classic animated Blu-ray release in October, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Does anyone think this is a good idea?...

After spending the past couple of decades relegated to uninspired TV and direct-to-video adventures, Winnie the Pooh and his Hundred Acre Wood cohorts make a delightful return to the big screen in "The Tigger Movie".
Ranking right up there with the 1968 Oscar-winning featurette, "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day," this first
feature-length format for the beloved A. A. Milne characters is, in a word, tiggerific, charmingly evoking the best elements of Disney's classic animation.
Unapologetically retro in look and storytelling style -- computer-generated techniques are used sparingly for things like falling snow and leaves -- the picture should nevertheless pack a surprising bounce at the boxoffice.
While it certainly won't be hitting the lofty heights of Disney's animated holiday fare, this production of the studio's television animation division should demonstrate some impressive legs as the "onliest" new all-ages feature on the block, while serving as a worthy addition to the Pooh oeuvre.
When his incessant bouncing begins to get on the nerves of the others, Tigger (voiced by Jim Cummings, who also provides Pooh's foggy tones) decides that perhaps the only creatures who would truly appreciate what Tiggers do best are other Tiggers.
After heeding some wisdom from Owl (Andre Stojka), he embarks on a fruitless quest to find his family tree. In a misguided effort to cheer him up, his old pals, including the dour Eeyore (Peter Cullen), don Tigger costumes and pretend they're his long-lost kin, but when he clues in on the masquerade, he sets off in the middle of a winter storm and resumes his search for the "biggest and most gigantical" family tree around.
Of course, in the end Tigger is made to realize that his true family -- those who love and care for him -- have always been there all along.
Director Jun Falkenstein, who also wrote the inventive, character-rich script, makes an impressive feature debut here after previously getting to know the characters in the 1998 primetime special "A Winnie the Pooh Thanksgiving". Her writing remains very true to the Milne spirit, while art director Toby Bluth has lovingly retained illustrator E. H. Shepard's stylized watercolors.
Their efforts are complemented by a talented group of voice actors, also including "Rugrats" regular Kath Soucie (Kanga), Nikita Hopkins (Roo), Ken Sansom (Rabbit) and John Fiedler (Piglet), who first lent his distinctive voice to the character in "Blustery Day". John Hurt, meanwhile, provides the warm narration.
To further boost the preservation aspect of the entire production, Disney veterans Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman were brought on board to contribute six new tunes, including the appropriately bouncy "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" and the showstopper "Round My Family Tree", and, while maybe not up there with their "Jungle Book" and "Mary Poppins" song books, they handily capture the very specific Pooh brand of whimsy.
And who else but that "House at Pooh Corner" guy Kenny Loggins, in collaboration with the Sherman brothers, croons the end title song, "Your Heart Will Lead You Home".
