Sandra Oh is stepping into her vice principal role from The Princess Diaries once again for a special reunion.
The actress reprised her Princess Diaries role as Vice Principal Geraldine Gupta on The Kelly Clarkson Show on Tuesday to introduce guest and her Princess Diaries co-star, Anne Hathaway. Hathaway played Princess Mia Thermopolis in the original 2001 film and its 2004 sequel.
For the introduction, Oh reenacted her famous scene from the film when she picks up the phone and says into the receiver, “Gupta. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm,” before hanging up and telling everyone, “The queen is coming.”

It’s been well over a year since news first broke that Disney was moving forward with “The Princess Diaries 3.” Anne Hathaway can’t reveal any details, but she did assure fans in a recent V magazine interview that development continues on the long-anticipated sequel, and the intention remains to get it off the ground.
“We’re in a good place,” Hathaway said. “That’s all I can say. There’s nothing to announce yet. But we’re in a good place.”
Hathaway would return as down-to-earth royal Mia Thermopolis in “The Princess Diaries 3.” It appears to be the sequel she is most interested in seeing through, as she doesn’t see a feasible way to bring another one of her popular classics, “The Devil Wears Prada,” back to life.
“Probably not,” Hathaway answered when asked about making a “Prada” sequel. “We all love each other and if somebody could...

In 2001, Anne Hathaway starred as Mia Thermopolis, heir to the throne and Princess of Genovia, in the American coming-of-age teen comedy film The Princess Diaries.
Her grandmother in the film, reigning Queen of Genovia Clarisse Renaldi, was played by Dame Julie Andrews.

While we’d love to believe otherwise, the film is not inspired by a true story. It is based on Meg Cabot’s 2000 young adult novel of the same name, which you can buy on Amazon.

In 2001, Disney’s adaptation of Meg Cabot’s best-selling book The Princess Diaries took the world by storm. The film was a coming-of-age story of Mia Thermopolis, an awkward teenage girl who discovers she’s the heir to the Genovian throne. As it turns out, Julie Andrews’ casting as Mia’s grandmother, Clarisse Renaldi, led to a significant change from the book.

When Garry Marshall signed on to direct The Princess Diaries, he knew he needed a big-name star to play the queen regent of Genovia, Clarisse. The character was an integral part of the story, and he needed someone who could bring the necessary gravitas and elegance to the role. That’s when Andrews came on board.

Anne Hathaway is thrilled with fan response over the third installment of The Princess Diaries saga. The much-anticipated film has been years in the making and Hathaway is sharing her thoughts on the development process.
“We feel the exact same, and I know it’s probably very frustrating,” she told People. “It’s a process that requires patience, and so everybody should consider themselves a part of the movie business now, because this is how long it actually takes to make things.”
It was in November when it was confirmed that another chapter of The Princess Diaries saga was in the works at Disney and being penned by Aadrita Mukerji. Debra Martin Chase was also reported to be returning to produce the new film.

Julie Andrews has bad news for any “Princess Diaries” fan hoping that news of a third installment means the return of Queen Clarisse to the big screen. During a recent interview with Access Hollywood, the acting icon cast doubt on returning to the beloved Disney franchise.

“It was talked about very shortly after [“Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement”] came out, but it’s now how many years since then?” Andrews continued. “And I am that much older and Annie the princess, our queen, is so much older. And I am not sure whether it would float or run.”

Hollywood star Julie Andrews, who played Clarisse Renaldi, the Queen regent of Genovia in ‘The Princess Diaries 3’, said that her participation in the new film might not happen. “I think we know that it’s probably not going to be possible,” Andrews told Access Hollywood.
“It was talked about very shortly after (the second sequel) came out, but it’s now how many years since then? And I am that much older and Annie the princess, or queen, is so much older. And I am not sure where it would float or run,” reports ‘Deadline’.
The Princess Diaries originally came out in 2001 with Garry Marshall directing Andrews and Anne Hathway. The coming-of-age comedy was based on the popular Meg Cabot novel series with Mia Thermopolis, played by Anne Hathaway, at the center of the story.
Mia is a teenager from San Francisco who discovers that she is the heir apparent to the throne of Genovia.

Fans of hectic Mustang rides, etiquette lessons and Anne Hathaway, rejoice! Another Princess Diaries film is on the way from Disney.
Supergirl and Reacher writer Aadrita Mukerji is writing a script for a third film in the franchise, which is thought to be a sequel to the films starring Hathaway, as opposed to a reboot.
According to The Hollywood Reporter’s sources, Hathaway does not yet have a deal to reprise her role, but it is hoped she will sign up to the project once it moves beyond script stage.
The actor has, however, voiced her enthusiasm for the idea of a third film in the past. “There is a script for the third movie. There is a script,” she said during a January 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “I want to do it. Julie [Andrews] wants to do it. Debra Martin Chase, our producer, wants to do it.

Though it pings on the news radar from time to time, there has been very little concrete development on a third The Princess Diaries film. And the death of Garry Marshall, who directed both the 2001 original and its 2004 sequel, subtitled Royal Engagement took the wind even more out of its sails. Yet Disney – which saw the first two films earn more than 300 million collectively at the box office and build a big fanbase — is not ready to let go of Genovia. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pieces are slowly falling into place for a third movie.
For those who might somehow be unaware, the Princess Diaries films adapt Meg Cabot's novel series, and focus on Mia Thermopolis (Anne Hathaway), a gawky San Francisco teenager who discovers that her late father was Crown Prince of a small European country called Genovia.

Long live Queen Mia Thermopolis! THR has reported that Disney has tapped Aadrita Mukerji (Supergirl) to pen the script for The Princess Diaries 3. It’s been nearly two decades since the last installment of the Anne Hathaway-led franchise, but sources tell THR that this will be a continuation rather than a reboot.
Based on the novel by Meg Cabot, The Princess Diaries starred Anne Hathaway as Mia Thermopolis, an American teenager who discovers that she’s the heir to the throne of the kingdom of Genovia. Also starring Julie Andrews as Mia’s grandmother and Queen regent of Genovia, the film was an unexpected success and was followed by Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement three years later. It’s not yet known if Anne Hathaway will return for The Princess Diaries 3, but we may not know anything either way until she takes a look at the script.

The Princess of Genovia is back!
An individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire that a third “Princess Diaries” film is currently in early development. The script is being penned by Aadrita Mukerji (“Supergirl”), as The Hollywood Reporter first noted. The third film will serve as a continuation of the original film series as a sequel to the 2001 and 2004 movies starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews.
No casting announcements have been made. Sources would not confirm whether Anne Hathaway will reprise her role, yet the “Princess Diaries” breakout star previously voiced her support for a proposed third film.
“I would more than entertain it, I’m pulling for it,” Hathaway told Entertainment Tonight in October 2022. “If there’s any way to get Julie Andrews involved, I think we would make it work. We would go to where she was and put a green screen behind her and just make it happen.

Disney is returning to Genovia for a third “Princess Diaries” movie.
It’s not clear whether Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as the down-to-earth royal Mia Thermopolis in the new installment, which is being written by Aadrita Mukerji. However, Hathaway recently expressed her interest in returning — with her on-screen grandmother Julie Andrews, who played the posh Queen Clarisse Renaldi — to the franchise that turned her into a star.

Andrews’ involvement in “The Princess Diaries 3” is similarly ambiguous. Plot details haven’t been confirmed, but the threequel is expected to continue the story in “The Princess Diaries” and the sequel “Royal Engagement” rather than rebooting the series.

Not all is well in Genovia. On Aug. 25, Princess Diaries author Meg Cabot announced that Princess Mia and the citizens of her fictional European country will be returning in the 12th installment of the book series, "The Quarantine Princess Diaries." The 300-page novel will be Cabot's first Princess Diaries release in seven years, preceded by "Royal Wedding: A Princess Diaries Novel" (2015). Set during the Covid-19 pandemic, the book will detail Princess Mia's personal and professional struggles as the people of Genovia - including the "dysfunctional" royal family - attempt to navigate their rapidly changing environment.
Beyond managing political strife and complex family dynamics, Mia might become intertwined in a "suspected royal affair." For fans of the two-part Disney film series, Mia's love triangle between Nicholas Devereaux (Chris Pine) and Andrew Jacoby (Callum Blue) was entrancing enough. But now that Mia has a pandemic to handle and an entire country to run,...

The writer and ‘romcomoisseur’ on her debut short story collection, romcom chemistry, and her clinch with Michael B Jordan

Romcoms are a big part of your life and the inspiration for your book. Why?

Debra Martin Chase and Sarah Spillane.
Sarah Spillane was teaching an acting class at the Hollywood Theatre of Arts when one of the students suggested she read the latest novel in The Mediator young adult series by Meg Cabot as well as the earlier editions.
Little did the LA-based writer-director realise this would lead to her teaming up with hot-shot Hollywood producer Debra Martin Chase and a movie franchise deal with Netflix.
The series follows Susannah “Suze” Simon, a teenage mediator who has the power to see, touch and talk to ghosts. Her main goal is to help them get to the “Great Beyond” (after life).
“I describe it as The Sixth Sense meets Twilight with an edgy bad-ass female lead,” Sarah tells If. “I have delivered the first draft of movie one to Netflix and am attached to write and direct the franchise.”

Of all the recent DC Ink and DC Zoom imprint books, this was the one I thought might be a stretch, might be a reach too far. Don’t get me wrong, I love Black Canary as a character. I’ve been reading her since she was a Justice League member in the 1970′s, through her mature readers only phase in Green Arrow books and finally in her own books. That’s a whole lot of fishnet tights I can tell you. Dinah Lance is a great character, but how can she be pitched at a young audience? Harley Quinn, teen Selina Kyle, and Raven from Teen Titans all have that rebellious streak going on, that ‘bad girl trying to do right’ vibe, whereas Black Canary has always been a pretty straight forward all-American heroine.

Harley Quinn, teen Selina Kyle, and Raven from Teen Titans all have that rebellious streak going on, that ‘bad girl trying to do right’ vibe, whereas Black Canary has always been a pretty straight forward all-American heroine.

The Princess Diaries launched a then 18-year-old Anne Hathaway to fame when it debuted in 2001.
The first film’s success prompted a sequel, and the actress, now starring in the dramatic thriller Serenity, recently revealed that a script for a third movie exists. And Hathaway always knew the story of Mia Thermopolis’ journey to Genovian royalty, based on Meg Cabot’s book series, would be a hit.
“Getting the script, it just had that feeling,” Hathaway, 36, tells People’s Editor-in-Chief Jess Cagle in the new People cover story, excerpted from the latest installment of The Jess Cagle Interview (streaming now on PeopleTV). “I touched it,...

Sweet Genovia, it's all happening. Plans for The Princess Diaries 3 are very much intact and Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, who played Mia Thermopolis and Queen Clarisse Renaldi in the first two films, released in 2001 and 2004, are on board. In 2017, franchise creator and author Meg Cabot told EW that she had heard that there was a script for another sequel. On Bravo's Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, Hathaway, who had her breakout role in the first movie, confirmed this and gave an update about the third film's development. "There is a script for the third movie," the actress said, replying to a fan's question. "There is a script. I...

There's a new Star Wars audiobook coming out called From a Certain Point of View, which will tell 40 stories from 40 different authors. The stories will focus on several different characters throughout the Star Wars universe including X-wing pilots, droid-hunting stormtroopers, and even some of the background characters from Star Wars: A New Hope.

The story was written by Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) has been cast in the role of Boba Fett! Happy Birthday, Princess Mia Thermopolis of Genovia!
On Thursday, Anne Hathaway shared a clip from The Princess Diaries on her Instagram to celebrate the movie's 16th anniversary. In her post, she wrote, "Happy Birthday Princess (Thanks Garry) #sweetsixteen #mia4evah."
The 2001 movie -- which helped launch Hathaway's Hollywood career -- became an instant classic, spawning one sequel, The Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement, and endless talk of a third.
Julie Andrews, who starred as Hathaway's grandmother, Queen Clarisse, in both films, added fuel to the idea earlier this year when she told The Today Show, "There's always been talk about it. It's a 'yes' if they ask me, only if it happens of course."
Diaries director and Hollywood legend Garry Marshall passed away in July of 2016, but had often discussed the possibility of a third film, according to his longtime friend (and Diaries franchise star) Hector Elizondo.

Editor’s Note: Click here for more information about the indie films available from Movies on Demand.
In “Colossal,” Anne Hathaway gives her best performance since “Rachel Getting Married.” Directed by Nacho Vigalondo, the film puts a clever riff on the monster movie by stuffing it inside the character study of an alcoholic in a boring small town getting over her personal demons. When she figures out that her movements in an old playground correlate with the behavior of a Kaiju beast in Seoul, the movie gets increasingly odd and surprising.
“Colossal” opened earlier this year in theaters and is now available to watch on VOD, and it’s more or less the perfect indie to end your summer on. Co-starring Jason Sudeikis, the movie is constantly shifting genres and upending expectations. It’s the kind of inventive indie movie a major Hollywood studio would never risk spending the money on.

Before she was Rachel Getting Married or Fantine, Anne Hathaway was Mia Thermopolis, Princess of Genovia. According to the author who wrote the books the two “Princess Diaries” books are based on, a return to that fictional kingdom may be the next chapter.
Meg Cabot, who’s written 14 books in the young-adult series, mentions the idea of making a third movie “kind of as a tribute” to director Garry Marshall, who passed away last year. “So, who knows? [It] could happen, as we say,” she tells Entertainment Weekly.

We may not have heard the last of Princess Mia Thermopolis after all. It's hard to believe that it's been 16 years since The Princess Diaries first hit the big screen and introduced us to Queen Clarisse Renaldi (played by Julie Andrews). After all these years, the movie continues to be a favorite amongst Disney fans. In fact, those same supporters are still hoping for a third film in the franchise that was based on the best-selling young adult novels by Meg Cabot. In honor of the special anniversary this weekend, Entertainment Weekly chatted with the author for her thoughts on a third movie. As it turns out, moviegoers still have plenty of reason to hope. Even if you're not a big reader of young adult fiction, you may have seen the advertisements for the new Chloë Grace Moretz movie The 5th Wave and suspected that it looks like the kind of movie that was adapted from a Ya franchise. All the elements are there: a post-apocalyptic dystopia, a winsome female protagonist who stands up to become the world's champion, an imperiled younger sibling and the winning combination of light science fiction and teenaged angst. The 5th Wave is the first in a trilogy of books by Rick Yancey about a group of underage rebels fighting off an alien invasion.

Update: Variety is saying that, contrary to The Tracking Board’s report, Disney is not currently developing a third installment in the Princess Diaries series. A conversation took place in which the future of the franchise was discussed, but nothing came out of it, and no screenwriter is attached. For now, at least, Genovia’s throne remains vacant.
More than a decade after the second entry in the series, Walt Disney Pictures is officially moving forward with The Princess Diaries 3.
The original, released in 2001, is credited with turning Anne Hathaway into a Hollywood star. Adapted from Meg Cabot’s bestselling Ya book of the same name, it followed a normal teenager named Mia Thermopolis, who is whisked away to the Kingdom of Genovia when she discovers that she is the heir to the throne.
The Princess Diaries was a commercial and critical success, pulling in more than $165 million worldwide and being dubbed a young-adult classic.

This is not a ruse. This is, hopefully, not some false information purposefully released by some enemy of Genovia. A new report states that Disney is moving ahead with Princess Diaries 3, now nearly 11 years after the second installment hit theaters. It.s like that elusive Legally Blonde 3 idea, except there.s more concrete information around this one. Anne Hathaway headlined the first two Princess Diaries movies, based on the books by author Meg Cabot. According to The Tracking Board, the Oscar winner may or may not return to the fold. It seems hard to believe Disney would make a Princess Diaries 3 without Hathaway, the woman who made the franchise a global sensation, but the report also states that it doesn.t really need her. The intention for the third installment is to essentially reboot the franchise with a new leading lady. How this would all work is still unknown, as...

Anne Hathaway could be about to dust off her ball gown as The Princess Diaries is apparently coming back.
A third instalment of the rom-com series is thought to be in the works at Walt Disney Pictures, according to Tracking Board.
Disney has yet to officially announce the project or whether Hathaway is returning as teen-turned-princess Mia Thermopolis.
Debra Chase, who produced the first two movies, is reportedly back to direct the third film.
Hathaway's first starring role was in 2001's The Princess Diaries, which centres around an awkward teen who discovers she is the heir to the throne of the fictional Kingdom of Genovia, which is ruled by her grandmother Clarisse (Julie Andrews).
Andrews and Hathaway both returned for its 2004 sequel Royal Engagement. The series is based on the 2000 novel by Meg Cabot.

The Tracking Board reports that Disney is making a third Princess Diaries to reboot the franchise. This probably-happy movie's plot is sadly a secret. It's also unclear if Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as princess-slash-queen of Genovia. (Hathaway has hinted that a return is unlikely, but it would be great if she did; it would be great if Shonda Rhimes came back to write this installment, too. How much of that greatness is realistic? Not much.) Judging by the execution of the first two flicks, the third will likely deviate from the source material, a.k.a. Meg Cabot's original, still-running Ya series of the same name. And since it's been more than a decade since the last flick, that could mean there's a new princess in town (or principality*).

Cue a right royal makeover, as supervised by her no-nonsense grandmother Queen Clarisse (Julie Andrews). It’s funny how we still refer to Meg Cabot as “author of the Princess Diaries,” even though she’s written tons of great books since then for both young adults and grown-ups. We still think of Anne Hathaway as Princess Mia, too, so it figures. But many of her characters share that same indomitable spirit in a quirky package, though their stories differ drastically. Take Heather Wells, the plus-size former teen pop star-turned-assistant-director of a college dorm/crime solver at the center of Size 12 and Ready to Rock, the fourth in a five-part series. She’s the kind of character you want to follow into a protest rally as much as sit at home and watch chick flicks with. And it turns out she has a lot in common with Meg herself.
