We have Indian Match Making, a reality television show on Netflix that markets marriage as an institution everyone should aspire to be in. This show was primarily made to point out the mindset of the Indians in their country and the diaspora living abroad, desperately wanting to be in touch with their culture and legacy. It paints only the happy picture of two families coming together in the name of holy matrimony. Then we have Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti’s Made in Heaven, which shows the ugly face of weddings and subsequent marriages. The show is as real as it gets. These are two opposite ends of the spectrums about one institution based on which the society of our country thrives.
Tanuja Chandra’s latest documentary, Wedding.Con, produced along with BBC India, talks about the horrors of marriages that are being initiated via matrimonial websites. Women are conned...

Hush Hush
Starring Juhi Chawla, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra, Shahana Goswami, Karishma Tanna
Created and Directed by Tanuja Chandra
This is a very good looking police procedural with some beautiful actresses getting together to play bestfriends for life, and in one case, in death.
What keeps one glued right till the end is the question: where is this going? More importantly, the principal actresses have the looks and sometimes the skills , though not always, to make us partially involved.
Spoiler Alert: Juhi Chawla, looking like an older version of Sanya Malhotra, in a classic case of a monstrous miscast plays Ishi Sangmitra , a high-flying wheelerdealer who gets savagely slayed in the first episode…or is it the second? It becomes a little tough to keep track when the narrative moves forward and back without warning.
What is as clear as daylight is that Ishi is up to no good...

The fest will close with Geethu Mohandas’ “Moothon,” produced by Anurag Kashyap. Mohandas’ “Liar’s Dice” played in the festival in 2013 and the film was entered in the 2014 Oscar foreign-language race as India’s entry. “Moothon” is described as a film about love and loss.
Two documentaries will be featured as the festival’s centerpieces.

Cinema "There is a massive lack of representation in the stories told in our cinema these days," Parvathy said. IANSIANSBy Nivedita In her Bollywood debut Qarib Qarib Singlle, actor Parvathy portrayed an everyday girl most contemporary Indian women would relate to. She feels Indian cinema needs more representation of such reality to make it "relatable for everyone". "There is a massive lack of representation in the stories told in our cinema these days. We must bridge that gap so that it becomes more relatable for everyone. There are a million stories to tell and we shouldn't get stuck in stereotypes. There is no scope of growth that way," Parvathy told Ians in an e-mail interview from Bengaluru. The film, co-written and directed by Tanuja Chandra, features Parvathy as Jaya Shashidharan, a widow, who lives alone and works at an insurance company. Along the way, she meets Yogi (Irrfan Khan) via an online dating website. They travel together and fall for each other. Parvathy is currently being featured as one of the women changemakers in Season 3 of Levi's #IShapeMyWorld campaign, which highlights stories of those who took their chances and beat the odds. Watch: Parvathy to Swara Bhaskar: 5 fearless women on how they shape their world From facing the casting couch to carving a niche in the southern film industry and eventually making her way to Bollywood, Parvathy has come out stronger to shape her world. "For a very long time, when someone was abused or harassed or someone was not given their due at work, I thought there was something that was wrong with them, and that they should take the blame. Rather than looking outward, I went (too) through the trauma of constantly trying to find fault with myself even when I knew I had done nothing to deserve it." But thanks to "people who were brave enough to share their stories and inform us that it's not the right way" she stopped doing that. Now, "through my craft... and by ensuring that I am treated with respect and dignity at the workspace" she shapes her own world. She also views her craft as an actor as an anthropological endeavour. "It's a study of human beings. In terms of reflecting on real lives and celebrating only the right things, I hope that, through cinema, women, men and transpeople would feel strongly about challenging the status quo, investigate and find ways to remedy the issues," she said. What kind of an influence does she want to be for those who admire her? "The only kind of influence I want to be on anyone is by being, constantly and consistently, someone who probes herself at every juncture, improves the way in which she functions as a citizen, and questions the status quo... (and helps) in resolving issues as well. "I want to be an example of this. So my deeds should speak louder than my words. The idea is to not create carbon copies of ourselves, but to accept diversity of thought and action (so that) we can make things better together," she added. Qarib Qarib Singlle
Starring Irrfan, Parvathi
Directed by Tanuja Chandra
Look, there are lots of problems in Qarib Qarib Singlle. As there are in life. But that’s what makes life , and life in the movies, worth living.
Qarib Qarib Singlle(Qqs) is a delightful ‘romp’-com about two middleaged strangers, one a widow – the other a vagabond, travelling together to meet his ex-girlfriends. Don’t giggle. Nothing new here. But then if you want something new, please visit your nearest mall and buy yourself a fresh coat of paint for your living room. Movies make sense only when they bring us characters we know in ways that we never knew that we knew them.
And I can swear I have met Yogi and Jaya somewhere. The fact that they are played by Irrfan and Parvathi (who is a prized find for Bollywood) is just so providential for director Tanuja Chandra.

Wazir has opened to a heartening response and its director Bejoy Nambiar is very happy. The reviews have been mixed but Bejoy is unperturbed. "That's how it has always been with my films. I am told the box office numbers are good. And that's what counts."
Just before Wazir released Bejoy married his steady girlfriend Sheetal Menon.

"It's web-series for ErosNow. There will be 12 short films, all unrelated, but each with a spin at the end," reveals Bejoy who has also done an hour-long film in and Indo-Pak omnibus produced by Shiija Kejriwal on behalf of the Zee channel.

Rumour has it that Ranbir Kapoor has been finalised alongside Sharman Joshi for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s (Vvc) next. The film in question is titled ‘Chithiyaan’ (Letters) and is set to be a romantic film. However, Vvc is will not be stepping into the director’s shoes, but produce this one instead.
The last tine Vvc directed a romantic film was back in 1998, in the Bobby Deol starrer Kareeb, he later produced the 2005 romantic Tagore novel Parineeta, starring Saif Ali Khan. Whilst Kareeb bombed at the box office, Parineeta went on to do well.
Although Vvc still has to decide on a director for Chithiyaan, Tanuja Chandra (Sangharsh, Sur) has reportedly been working on the script and Vvc still also has to zero in on the leading ladies for the film.
When asked to clarify the rumour, Vvc responded that his production company was in discussions and would make a formal announcement when ready.
