It's 40 years since Multi-Coloured Swap Shop made its television debut and kick-started the Saturday morning kids' TV slot...
Imagine the excitement - it's just before 9.30am on Saturday 2nd October 1976. It's almost like Christmas has come early, such is the anticipation. The nation's kids, who hitherto got their kicks at the Saturday morning pictures, settle in front of their television screens and press the button marked 'BBC1'. Those who read their parents' Radio Times know a new show is about to start with Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Noel Edmonds at the helm. 28 year old Noel is cool and down with the kids. Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen - the Doctor and Sarah Jane from Doctor Who - are to be the first star guests, and you can actually speak to them live by telephone! A teaser trailer for the revived Catchphrase has debuted.
The quiz show's iconic mascot Mr Chips features in the 30-second TV spot, which was shared by host Stephen Mulhern via Twitter on Monday night (April 1).
The TV spot confirms that Catchphrase will return this Sunday (April 7) at 6.45pm.
Coronation Street's Kym Lomas, Benidorm's Steve Pemberton and I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'s Rosemary Shrager have signed up to compete in a one-off, hour-long celebrity special which will air alongside eight regular 45-minute episodes.
Mulhern told Digital Spy last autumn that it would have been "a real shame" if his Catchphrase pilot had not been picked up to series.
Speaking before the show's revival was confirmed, he said: "It's been off screens for so long. I know there's been reruns of [the original show], but young kids wouldn't have been aware of it so it's a new game for them.

From the age of 7, Mark Curry had showbiz in his blood. With a penchant for silly glasses and flame-red hair, he may not have looked like a traditional TV star, but Curry was always destined for greatness. Before his 8th birthday, he cameoed on ITV's Junior Showtime and in the middle of his teenage years he starred in the classic 1976 Bugsy Malone film alongside such legends as Scott Baio, Bonnie Langford and Dexter Fletcher. However, it was when Curry entered the world of children's TV presenting in the 1980s that he really found his stride. After helming the unforgettable Cbbc classics Treasure Houses and Saturday Picture Show, he was head-hunted for Blue Peter where he became part of a dream team of presenters that included (more)...
