Scream Factory sure loves director Kevin Connor’s 1980 oddball horror classic Motel Hell (which you can watch Here). They gave the film a special edition Blu-ray release from back in 2014, then a steelbook release with a 4K transfer back in 2020. Now they have announced that they’ll be giving Motel Hell a 4K Uhd release on June 27th – and copies are available for pre-order at This Link! While supplies last, fans who order the 4K Uhd release through the Scream Factory site will also receive an exclusive 18″ X 24″ rolled poster featuring the original theatrical artwork.

Motel Hell is an odd film. It’s packaged as a horror-comedy hybrid, but in reality, it takes itself far more seriously than most movies within the same category. Though the film does have an oddball quality, it steers clear of satire, and never reduces itself to slapstick. Motel Hell was produced during a time where all studio horror output was expected to be dead-teen slasher flicks, and while the film has a slasher quality to it, it has a lot more going on for it than that. Another thing Motel Hell is good for, is forcing you to create a lot of the violence in your own mind, as much of the gorier death scenes happen off-screen in a clever sort of way. Much like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, you walk away from Motel Hell feeling like you just watched a gorier film than you actually did. What...

In the twenty-five years since Stand By Me was released in cinemas, has there been a better movie about the twilight of childhood? Watching it again with the newly released Blu-ray I was struck, as I always am, by how it captures with uncanny precision a group of kids entering their teens without relying on sentimentality; you feel like these guys grow up, over the course of the movie, in front of your eyes. As a child I loved the movie as an adventure story, which it is, but as it and I grow older its seems increasingly poignant and true.
The plot concerns four boys in 1950s’ Oregon who hear that the body of a dead child is lying near the railroad track, a couple of days’ walk from home. This is too intriguing a possibility to miss, so they make their excuses to their parents and head off.

Flipped (Blu-ray)Warner Home Video2010/Rated PG/Running Time 90 minsList Price: $35.99 – Now AvailableSitting down to watch Rob Reiner's latest, Flipped, the thought occurred to me, “when was the last time 'Meathead' made a really great movie?” The former All in the Family star turned director had a decent picture with the Jack Nicholson/Morgan Freeman team-up The Bucket List, but when you really think about it, the film was nothing more than two old guys talking and walking around. More than half the time the two veteran actors were actually chatting in front of a bluescreen and digitally inserted in locales such as Africa, France, Egypt and Hong Kong.I was a devoted fan of Reiner's early in his career when he made such great films as This Is Spinal Tap, The Sure Thing, Stand By Me and The Princess Bride. In time, he successfully took on more adult oriented material like Misery,...
