We need to talk about Bruce Wayne. Until "The Mask," Bruce has not been one of Gotham's most interesting characters. In fact, he hasn't really been more than the show's figurehead. Bruce is the human catalyst that motivates James Gordon, the show's real lead protagonist, to wage war on both the mob and Gotham's mobbed-up guardians. So it's a good thing that Bruce is more prominent in "The Mask," an episode where Gordon reaffirms his crusade against everything corrupt in Gotham: "Falcone, Maroni, every cop that's dirty: I'm gonna get 'em." More important, Gordon finally gets help from his fellow Gcpd officers, and not just partner Harvey Bullock. Captain Sarah Essen makes a very public display of solidarity with Gordon when she offers to help Bullock look for Gordon when he goes missing. But I'm getting ahead of myself. In tonight's episode, Bruce Wayne stepped out of Gordon's shadow and...

The Dark Knight Rises, the final chapter in director Christopher Nolan's Batman movie trilogy will arrive on store shelves on December 4, 2012. Warner Bros. will be releasing the film on Blu-ray, DVD and digital download, and there will also be a special limited edition "bat pod" box set for Bat-collectors to add to their collection.
Just in case you were off planet this past summer, The Dark Knight Rises is the second-highest grossing movie in the Batman movie franchise, taking in $433 million dollars domestically (and $100 million of that came from IMAX showings.) For the third time Christian Bale reprises his role as the gruff-sounding caped crusader and tortured billionaire Bruce Wayne. Also coming back for the three-peat were Gary Oldman as Police Commissioner James Gordon; Morgan Freeman as Wayne Industries CEO Lucius Fox; and Michael Caine as Alred Pennyworth, the loyal servant and confidant of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Hailed by John Hurt as the 'best of the bunch', Oldman is a working-class hero acclaimed for his acting and directing
Gary Oldman returns to London this weekend in the role of prodigal son, the wayward talent brought in from the cold. He arrives from California to find a landscape very different from the one he left in the early 1990s.
The fiery social-realist BBC teleplays that provided an early calling card have bitten the dust. The cult of the raw-boned working-class British performer has been largely replaced by a roll call of Etonians and Harrovians: a rash of Redmaynes, Hiddlestons and Cumberbatches. And so, at the age of 53, Oldman touches down like some disreputable Rip Van Winkle, a reminder of times gone by. All of which makes him more striking – and arguably more necessary – than he was before.
If they handed out awards for nuance and subtlety, shade and stealth,...

It was recently revealed by Christopher Nolan that the story for The Dark Knight Rises would be set 8 years after the The Dark Knight. This was some surprisingly cool news, and I can't wait to see how this story is going to play out. Christian Bale did a new interview in which he discusses the inner pain of Baman and how the death of his parents screwed him up. Here's what he had to say...
How long will you let the pain and loss define your life? Walking around chasing bad guys is very heroic and attracts attention, but at the end it all accounts for, as a means to deal with the pain of a huge loss.
We agreed that Bruce Wayne is absolutely sincere as Bruce Wayne, and as Batman utterly sincere. But Bruce Wayne, the playboy, is a pure facade, it's a lie he has, somehow, to...

We’ve all got an early memory of the Dark Knight lodged in our mind somewhere, whether it’s from a stack of a father or sibling’s old comic books, watching re-runs of the purposely gaudy 60’s T.V show or from one of the many movie adaptations or animated series available for audience consumption. He’s a character that’s so embedded into our collective subconscious that these days it’s difficult to get through a week without hearing about his exploits in some form or another (although I’m not sure exactly why you’d want to).
Yes, it’s a good time to be a Batman fan; a great time in fact. Rocksteady’s phenomenal new open world brawler Arkham City is currently lighting up the gaming word, making it possible to actually feel like the Dark Knight himself. And love it or hate it, there...

Chicago – After a few releases that felt like perhaps the DC Universe line of straight-to-video animated films were in decline, they recently released what is arguably their best installment and a work that deserves to sit on the shelf of any Batman fan — the often-brilliant “Batman: Year One.” So remarkably loyal to one of the most influential comic books of all time that it sometimes recreates it verbatim and including some of the best voice work in the entire DC Universe line, this is a great animated film and possibly the best Blu-ray gift you could buy for a comic fan this season.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.5/5.0

Meanwhile, James Gordon, a police officer from Chicago, moves to Gotham with his pregnant wife, Barbara, and experiences multiple conflicts within the crime ridden city, including being assaulted by his partner, Detective Flass, becoming a target for Commissioner Gillian Loeb, engaging in...

"Inception" actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt will likely be rejoining director Christopher Nolan on "The Dark Knight Rises," but there's still no word on who the talented actor could play in the third installment of the record-breaking movie franchise.
If this week's casting report proves true, Gordon-Levitt will join new additions Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway, who will play Bane and Selina Kyle in the 2012 film. However, the question of whether Gordon-Levitt is being considered for a hero or villain role is unanswered at this point.
With that in mind, here are five characters from Batman's famous stable of villains and supporting characters who might be a good fit for the latest addition to "The Dark Knight Rises" cast. (Spoiler: It's actually four serious suggestions and one ridiculous one.)

Ready to dive into a new viral with conspiracy theories and real world connections? It looks like the viral is starting for Dimension Films' sci-fi found footage thriller Apollo 18. The latest and a real big rumor from Hollywood goes like this: Christopher Nolan has put the call out to fill two female lead roles in The Dark Knight Rises.
Actresses that Christopher Nolan has been rumored to have met with include Keira Knightley, Natalie Portman, Rachel Weisz, Anne Hathaway, Blake Lively and Naomi Watts.
And we must admit this is pretty impressive. But how to expect less from great name such as Christopher Nolan!?
According to Deadline, Nolan is casting for two different female roles. One of the roles is to be a love interest for Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and the other a villain.
But that’s not all. Just another one rumor, please.
Movieweb reports that Charlize Theron is up for the role of Detective Sarah Essen and that Vera Farmiga had auditioned for Julie Madison, which will be the love interest role for Bruce Wayne.

The Dark Knight Rises is beginning its rumor mill of casting and character speculation and why not? I mean, it’s a great conversation starter. Comic Book Movie is already 0 for 1 on rumors. While I post this, they got it wrong about Wolverine being in The X-Men: First Class. However, I think both of these rumors – at least with the characters – they are bringing up make a lot of sense.

Now that we know that "Batman 3" is actually called "The Dark Knight Rises" and that it has Tom Hardy (Inception) on board and will not feature The Riddler, it's time to finish putting together the rest of the cast. Cbm has learned that Charlize Theron has been approached to play Detective Sarah Essen, who is partnered with James Gordon. The two end up having an affair and she is eventually murdered by The Joker. It was hinted that she is the real mother of Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl). Meanwhile Vera Farmiga and Kacie Thomas have already auditioned for the role of Julie Madison, who is a socialite engaged to Bruce Wayne. She is not aware of Wayne's secret identity and is often used as a pawn in the vampiric Monk's battle with Batman. She has also been associated with the villain Clayface.

With Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight Rises set to film this spring, get ready for the onslaught of casting rumors, contradictions, and announcements up until the first day of production. Our latest comes from Comic Book Movie, in which an agency source told them a few actresses in contention for two separate roles.
One of their clients, Charlize Theron, “has been approached to play a Detective Named Sarah Essen–a love interest for Jim Gordon,” the police commissioner played by Gary Oldman. But didn’t The Dark Knight end with him and his happily traumatized family intact? Cbm has a possible answer below:
Sarah Essen first appears in Batman #405, part of the Batman: Year One storyline. She is a detective partnered with then-lieutenant James Gordon. She and the married Gordon start a brief affair. She is murdered by the Joker and is hinted as the real Mother of Barbara Gordon (batgirl).
Steamy.

Inception 2010 148 minutes rated PG-13 by Scott Mendelson I have never understood the idea that Chris Nolan is a cold man who makes cold films. While he is a brilliant craftsman and a technical genius, his films have always had a vibrant heartbeat at the center. Whether it's amnesiac Leonard struggling to retain his humanity, rival magicians Robert and Alfred slowly wrecking their lives in a pointless game of one-upmanship, or James Gordon trying to fight corruption in a city that runs on graft, Nolan's films generally remember to put the human element above the spectacle or gimmickry. But, for the first time, Christopher Nolan has made a film that embodies the Chris Nolan stereotype. Inception is a visually dazzling, exceedingly intelligent, and possibly ingenious puzzle box. But the human element takes a backseat to the visual wonderland and...

Gary Oldman has begun the second half of his career. Back in the late 80s and the 90s, he was known for one character type: the bat-shit insane psychopath. We watched him shoot people with a shotgun while miming Beethoven in Leon; destroy his life with drugs while playing bass for the Sex Pistols in Sid and Nancy; attempt to feed people to pigs in Hannibal; and suck blood and entice women in Bram Stoker's Dracula, and we loved every second of it. But since accepting the roles of James Gordon in Christopher Nolan's Batman films and Sirius Black in the Harry Potter franchise, it looks as though he has dropped the crazy in favor of the middle-aged man who is a force for good, but can also kick some ass. His newest role fits perfectly into that description. The Guardian, via Production Weekly, says that Oldman has been...

This is one of those stories that, in any other hands, I'd be dreading. But it sounds like it might end up just right.
Warner Home Video has announced plans to produce an animated adaptation of Frank Miller's iconic, classic graphic novel Batman: Year One. Pretty much any comic book fan -- particularly Batman readers -- will tell you that Year One is not only one of the best Batman stories of all time, but it's also one of the best comics of all time. It's a gritty origin story that uses the well-known Batman history, but tells it in an absolutely compelling manner. Here's DC Comics' official synopsis:
A young Bruce Wayne has spent his adolescence and early adulthood, traveling the world so he could hone his body and mind into the perfect fighting and investigative machine. But now as he returns to Gotham City, he must...

While there has been no confirmation on whether or not Warner Bros. Pictures will make a follow up to "The Dark Knight", story for "Batman 3" reportedly has been planned. Comic Book Movie (Cbm) has just obtained information from a "plot outliner" at Warner Bros. who reveals some details of the upcoming film.
According to the source who is called "Tt" by Cbm, the Riddler will be the main villain and will figure out Batman's identity in "The Dark Knight" sequel. Beside Riddler, the forthcoming movie will also feature cameos of several Batman's classic enemies, such as the Penguin and Dr. Victor Fries, the alter ego of Mr. Freeze. Other characters who will possibly make appearances in "Batman 3" include Barbara Gordon, who is the daughter of Police Commissioner James Gordon, and Dick Grayson, though he will likely not turn into Robin.
Additionally, the source informed that James will mention Metropolis and...

Actor Gary Oldman has become one of the more recognizable and talented actor in the film industry today.
Oldman has worn several heroic faces up on the big screen during his career. Characters like Commissioner James Gordon in the new Batman franchise (seriously, how good was he in "The Dark Knight"?!?!) and uncle Sirius Black in the "Harry Potter" films.
However, Oldman truly shines when he's given the opportunity to play the villain like he does in the upcoming film "The Book Of Eli" in which he stars with Denzel Washington.
The good folks over at Screen Junkies have put together this visual guide to the path of villainy Oldman has embarked on over his fantastic career that we share here with you now:
Question: Of all the great roles Oldman has played, which is your favorite? (Personally, I really liked him in "Air Force One")

Epic competitions abounded last night as the Yankees bested the Angels to win yet another World Series appearance. New Yorker and Marvel Eic Joe Quesada was so overcome with hometown pride that he's even forsaken his allegiance to the Mets for the duration of the Mlb post season, according to his tweets.
Meanwhile, on the Internet, "Adventures of Dr. McNinja" creator Chris Hastings was involved in a cutthroat contest of voting, wherein his super-cute dog Commissioner Jim Gordon might have won him $1 million. He seemed to have the backing of nearly every webcomic creator on Twitter, that's for sure. Check out who was behind him, as well as the problem Mike Oliveri has with "New Moon" werewolves, which artist Andy Diggle is planning a new creator-owned series with and whether Gail Simone will ever want to write for Marvel again.
It's all after the jump in the Twitter Report for October 26, 2009.

I was playing Call of Duty: World at War with my son the other day (hey, I'm the cool mom), and he said, "You know, that sounds like Jack Bauer." I listened, and sure enough, that unmistakable "Fire!" was indeed Kiefer Sutherland, a.k.a. Jack Bauer on 24.
It's always fun when stuff like this happens, where you recognize a beloved TV character's voice elsewhere. I surfed around YouTube and found a video of Sutherland in the recording studio, along with Gary Oldman, who played James Gordon on The Dark Knight, among dozens of other films.Continue reading It's Jack Bauer! Every week on Vf.com, filmmaker Jamie Johnson offers a glimpse into the secret lives of the super-rich. Included on my reading list this summer are a couple of biographies about the Gilded Age’s legendary newspaper publisher James Gordon Bennett Jr. He was a fabulously rich media mogul who inherited the crown jewel of his family’s fortune: a prominent paper called the New York Herald. Stories about him involve everything from late-night streaking while steering his team of trotters through open city streets to urinating in the fireplace at a gathering, in celebration of his engagement to a glamorous patrician debutante. The more I learn about the man, the more fascinated I become with his scandalous life and the mythology he left behind. Today’s elite billionaires are painfully dull by comparison. It’s hard to imagine any of the individuals on Forbes magazine’s list of the...
