Will “Matrix” fans take the Nft pill?
Warner Bros. is launching the sale of 100,000 nonfungible tokens (NFTs) of “Matrix”-inspired avatars later this month. The studio is pairing the hype over NFTs with the upcoming release of “The Matrix Resurrections,” aiming to gin up excitement for the long-awaited fourth movie in the popular sci-fi franchise — and also potentially landing a $5 million windfall over the sale of the digital-collectible NFTs.

One of the most iconic movies to come out in what many critics have hailed as the best year for movies in modern times, 1999’s “The Matrix” was not just an unexpected box office hit, but an awards favorite as well. The science-fiction classic won all four of the Academy Awards for which it was nominated: Best Film Editing, Best Sound, Best Sound Editing, Best Visual Effects. Its four total awards at the 2000 ceremony placed “The Matrix” just one behind the night’s biggest winner, Best Picture champ “American Beauty.”
Times have changed in the 22 years since “The Matrix” arrived: the film’s groundbreaking effects almost seem quaint when compared to some recent winners and nominees in the Best Visual Effects category — to say nothing of the fact that dial-up internet was a key reference point for its vision of a digital world. Set in a close-knit community in Georgia, “Heels” follows the people of a small town who chase their dreams in the world of independent professional wrestling. Telma Hopkins, Linda Park and Vanessa Marano are set as series regulars opposite Shanola Hampton and Dascha Polanco in NBC pilot Dangerous Moms, from Warner Bros. Television and Universal TV.
Written by Janine Sherman Barrois based on the Spanish series Señoras del (h)Ampa, Dangerous Moms is an off-center dark dramedy about four diverse mothers who accidentally kill the queen bee of their school’s PTA during the demonstration of a new high-end food processor. The story becomes a female anthem about friendship and family as it tells the story of one completely unprepared group of women who must juggle their everyday lives while their worlds are turned upside down.
Hopkins will play Fatima. The highly spiritual Fatima lives in and works as a manager at one of Pia’s (Polanco) buildings, where she takes care of her own grandson. She is also a full-time embalmer at a popular funeral home.

It is fair to say that Charles Band makes some interesting movies, most of them B-movies with a cult charm. As fans we love them for this very fact, whether it’s the brave move to just go for the fun instead of high quality drama, or sometimes and often more rarely actually being a surprisingly good movie. 88 Films are releasing one of these on Blu-ray in the form of Trancers, a movie that borrows a lot from Bladerunner but adds a time travelling concept that for its time was quite smart.

In the past, Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence have both had successful sitcoms that ran for many years. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the duo's new FX sitcom, Partners, has much of a future. It's very likely to be cancelled.
On Partners, a snobby lawyer (Grammer) and an overly ethics-driven lawyer (Lawrence) become partners and end up helping each other get their lives in order. The rest of the cast includes McKaley Miller, Telma Hopkins, Danièle Watts, Rory O’Malley, and Edi Patterson.
As you may recall, FX made a 10/90 deal for Partners with Lionsgate TV and Debmar-Mercury. If the sitcom's first 10 episodes reached a certain ratings threshold then the cable channel was obligated to order 90 episodes for season two -- assuring the studios would have enough episodes for a (potentially very lucrative) syndication package.

FX is trying another 10/90 deal with the Partners TV show. If the ratings for the first season of 10 episodes hit a certain ratings threshold, the cable channel has committed to ordering a 90-episode second season. Anger Management had a similar deal and was renewed. Saint George did too but it was cancelled. How will Partners perform? Stay tuned.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

In 2012, CBS premiered a new show about two odd-couple male pals. It was called Partners, and on the surface, it seemed to have everything going for it—a prime slot following How I Met Your Mother, a great pedigree courtesy of two ’90s sitcom wizards (it was created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan of Will & Grace fame), two charismatic stars (Michael Urie and David Krumholtz). Even so, Partners failed to gain traction. Critics griped that its old-fashioned jokes were tired rather than appealingly retro; just a few weeks into the 2012-2013 TV season, it became one of the first shows to get the ax.

Last night, Adult Swim aired the fourth and final installment in Adam Scott's Greatest Event in Television History series, in which he and some of his pals create frame-for-frame reenactments of the opening credits for eighties TV shows (after ten minutes of mockumentary footage about the making of the reenactment). He'd already tackled Simon & Simon, Hart to Hart, and Too Close for Comfort, so last night, he teamed with Paul Rudd to remake the lengthy, exposition-heavy opening to the Tom Hanks–Peter Scolari drag sitcom Bosom Buddies. (Gillian Jacobs takes the Donna Dixon role, Aidy Bryant does the late Wendie Jo Sperber, Parks and Rec writer Aisha Muharrar is Telma Hopkins, and Mo Collins nails Holland Taylor in just one face.) A Planet Fury-approved selection of notable genre DVD releases for the month of January.
Lightning Bug (2004) Image Entertainment Blu-ray and DVD Available Now
Effects guru Robert Hall’s semi-autobiographical film about a small town teen (Reaper's Bret Harrison) who has aspirations to become a special effects artist. An opportunity to manage the town’s local haunted house is thwarted by his alcoholic stepfather and the staunchly religious views of the surrounding population. The solid supporting cast includes That 70’s Show’s Laura Prepon, Hellraiser’s Ashely Lawrence and Kevin Gage. Written and directed by Hall, it’s an affectionate coming-of-age drama that works in spite of an uneven narrative that falls apart in the final half hour. Hopefully this new extended cut will remedy the scripting problems of the original release.
Special Features include:
* Never-before-released extended cut of the film.
* Making-of Featurette
* Audio commentaries with the writer/director and cast.

If you enjoy the TBS comedy Are We There Yet?, then you're in for a real treat. The cable channel has just renewed the sitcom for 90 episodes (no, that's not a typo).
Based on the 2005 Ice Cube movie, Are We There Yet? follows the newly blended Kingston-Persons family as they adjust to one another. The series stars Terry Crews, Essence Atkins, Teala Dunn, Coy Stewart, Christian Finnegan, and Keesha Sharp. Co-executive producer Ice Cube plays a recurring role as does former Family Matters star Telma Hopkins.
This is the third TBS sitcom to receive such a massive pickup, following in the footsteps of Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Meet the Browns. Are We There Yet? has been on the air for just 10 episodes but distributor Dembar-Mercury wants to take the series into syndication.

Though its first season started in September of 1989, Family Matters is the quintessential 90s sitcom. It was a fierce decade of competition for sitcoms, and if that wasn’t enough, the genre has a built in duality that most never overcome. On one hand, the sitcom needs to be broad enough that it can cover relatable topics, keeping the characters fun while doing so, but never actually going anywhere. The test of a true sitcom is how well and how long it can run in place while moving as little as possible. On the other hand, some motion definitely needs to occur; a sitcom just can’t stand still otherwise it’s boring and too predictable and it never picks up the audience. Family Matters didn’t just run in place, it ran a virtual go-nowhere marathon and kept its audience intact, with the only real motion being the unstoppable aging of its characters.

A '90s sitcom, Family Matters began as a spin-off of ABC's popular Perfect Strangers. The adventures of the Winslow family and one very nerdy neighbor lasted for eight seasons.
Carl Winslow (Reginald VelJohnson) is a Chicago policeman and his wife, Harriette (Jo Marie Payton, later Judyann Elder), is the chief of security for the Chicago Chronicle. Their children are Eddie (Darius McCrary), Laura (Kellie Shanygne Williams), and little Judy (Jaimee Foxworth). Also living with them are Harriet's widowed sister (Telma Hopkins), her young son Richie (Bryton McClure), and Carl's feisty mother, Estelle Winslow (Rosetta LeNoire).
In the beginning, stories were slated to center around the Winslow parents and kids. But, when Steve Urkel (Jaleel White) showed up, that all changed. The character became an overnight sensation...

Chicago – Very loosely based on the Ice Cube movie (and featuring occasional cameos by the Executive Producer himself), TBS’s “Are We There Yet?” feels more like a product of the recently-passed era of generic family sitcoms like “According to Jim” or “My Wife and Kids.” With a predictable laugh track and obvious punchlines, “Are We There Yet?” doesn’t take enough chances and isn’t nearly creative enough, but a better-than-average cast keeps the show from complete disaster.
Television Rating: 2.5/5.0
Nick (Terry Crews of “Everybody Hates Chris”) and Suzanne (Essence Atkins of “Half and Half”) have recently married and poor Nick is learning how to face the complexities of fatherhood on the job. Suzanne has two teenage children named Lindsey (Teala Dunn) and Kevin (Coy Stewart) and both seem to love the idea of torturing their new stepdad, calling him “Dad” only when they want something. As for supporting characters,...
