Exclusive: CBS is taking another shot at adapting the German police procedural dramedy Einstein, this time with major changes to the original concept.
The 2017 German series was a police procedural dramedy about the unknown great-great-grandson of Albert Einstein, a theoretical physics professor, who helps the police in solving murder cases.
The CBS take, written/executive produced by Insatiable creator Lauren Gussis and executive produced by American Gothic creator Corinne Brinkerhoff, centers on a roguish, out-of-the-box-thinking physics professor who happens to be the secret, illegitimate great-granddaughter of Albert Einstein. She begrudgingly partners with a Boston homicide detective not only to help solve the most puzzling of crimes, but also to address the problems ever-present inside the institution of policing itself.
In addition to switching the gender of the Einstein great-grandchild title character, the adaptation also provides 2020 perspective on policing, which has come under major scrutiny following the death of George Floyd.

Bruckner directed Amateur Night, the opening segment of the 2012 found-footage horror anthology V/H/S. He made his debut on the 2007 pic The Signal, which he co-directed with Dan Bush and Jacob Gentry. Exclusive: David Linde’s Lava Bear has made its first spec script buy as Linde and Lava Bear president Tory Metzger acquired an untitled thriller by scribe L.D. Goffigan. Lava Bear will produce with Quadrant Pictures’ Doug Davison and Tariq Jalil. Lucas Carter is exec producer. They are keeping the logline under wraps. It’s the first sale for the writer, who has been working as an assistant. Three offers materialized when the script went out under the title Intrusion. Davison and Linde worked together previously on the horror hit The Strangers, a factor in why this went the way of Lava Bear. Lava Bear is out to directors with plans to begin production in 2013. The scribe is repped by CAA and manager Jewerl Ross.

Exclusive: ABC is developing an English-language remake of mega hit telenovela Soy Tu Dueña, with Jorge Zamacona (10-8: Officers On Duty) writing and Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria executive producing. ABC’s version will be co-produced by Televisa, the company behind the Mexican telenovela; Lionsgate TV; and ABC Studios. It centers on a Texas heiress who loses her fortune and is forced to move back to the ranch she grew up on. Zamacona will serve as showrunner and executive produce with Longoria though her Unbelievable Entertainment, as well as Tariq Jalil, who helped put the English adaptation together, through his Intrigue banner. Soy Tu Dueña — which means I’m Your Owner but is translated into English as “A Woman Of Steel” — itself is a remake of the 1995 telenovela La Dueña. It became a ratings sensation when it aired on Univision from June through December last year, ranking as the...

It's a dire genre – witness Bill Murray's nadir in Garfield 2 – but with Dilbert in production, what next? Your suggestions, please
Films based on TV shows are one thing. Films based on video games are another. But films based on newspaper comic strips are unquestionably the worst thing in the entire world. There's literally nothing worse than a film based on a newspaper comic strip. Literally.
They're the sort of thing that can decimate legends. The only thing stopping Garfield from being the lowest point of Bill Murray's career is the sequel Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties. And even though it was only 13 minutes long, 1985's Rupert and the Frog Song was enough to single-handedly transform Paul McCartney from an incomparable musical genius to a mulleted thumbs-aloft twit. Unequivocally speaking, only a fool would make a film out of a newspaper comic strip.
And that's partly why it's...

Ken Kwapis is reportedly directing a live-action adaptation of the workplace comic strip Dilbert, according to Pajiba.
The three panel office satire, created by Scott Adams in 1989, features a jaded engineer dealing with everyday corporate life, especially needless bureaucracy and workplace politics. Adams has published several Dilbert books and spun the character into an animated TV series in the late 90’s that ran for two seasons.
Kwapis is fairly qualified, having directed several episodes of “The Office,” but he’s also subjected the world to sentimental schlock like Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and She’s Just Not That Into You.
No casting has been announced, but now might be the perfect time to revive Drew Carey’s career. Tariq Jalil is producing and is behind the ill-conceived plot to bring the comic Marmaduke to the screen this summer.
Didn’t they already make this movie and call it Office Space?...

Ken Kwapis ("The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants," "License to Wed") is attached to direct a live-action film adaptation of Scott Adams' comic strip "Dilbert" for Phoenix Entertainment and Intrigue Entertainment reports Pajiba.
Kicking off in 1989 and still running today, the comic follows an engineer in a white-collar, micromanaged company and satirises office politics and bureaucracy. He also has a pet named Dogbert.
Kwapis has a familiarity with the subject matter considering he has helmed quite a few episodes of the rather similar sitcom "The Office". Tariq Jalil ("Marmaduke") is producing.
The comic was previously adapted into an animated series in 1999.

A live-action version of the comic strip (and sometimes animated show) Dilbert has been a long time coming. Last time we heard anything was in 2007, when Chris Columbus had bought the rights and was reportedly considering directing the film. Now there's a report that Phoenix Entertainment is developing a live-action Dilbert. Pajiba reports that Tariq Jalil is the common thread -- he was a producer on the Columbus version and is still producing the property now. He and Phoenix Entertainment have set Ken Kwapis to direct. If the name is familiar you might be a fan of The Office, as he's directed a dozen episodes of the Us version, in addition to episodes of other shows like Malcolm in the Middle and The Bernie Mac Show. That link from Dilbert to Kwapis to The Office would seem to suggest exactly the sort of adaptation to expect, should this ever go...

In 2007, Moviehole reported that Chris Columbus (Stepmom, Mrs. Doubtfire, the two weakest Harry Potter films) had snatched up the about-to-lapse film rights to Scott Adams' Dilbert, possibly with an eye toward directing. That was the last that the project was ever mentioned, and that page is now missing from Moviehole's archives.
I don't know what happened to the Chris Columbus project, but the Hollywood Cog is reporting that Phoenix Entertainment, the production company behind Shutter Island, the Robocop remake, and Zodiac is now developing a live-action feature film based on Dilbert along with Intrigue Entertainment.
When the idea was put out there in 2007, the few people who reported it suggested that a live-action Dilbert might compare unfavorably to Office Space or "The Office." And, as if to make that an even more likely reality, Phoenix Entertainment has brought Ken Kwapis aboard to direct. Kwapis has directed multiple episodes of "The Office,...
