"Bones" had a truly impressive run during its time on-air. Debuting on Fox back in 2005, Hart Hanson's procedural dramedy quickly became a hit, thanks in large part to stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanez, who played forensic anthropologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan and FBI agent Seeley Booth respectively. The duo managed to carry the show's balance between truly grim subject matter and its more lighthearted elements in a way that kept the series running for a full 12 seasons. Unfortunately, Fox finally canceled "Bones" in 2017 after 246 episodes.
Since then, fans of the series have had to make do with re-watching the episodes that did air (short-lived spin-off "The Finder" just couldn't match the charm or the success of its precursor). But with almost 250 episodes to revisit, there's not exactly a paucity of "Bones" out there. Still, with the show now having been off the air for seven years, enough time has...

As Dr. Temperance Brennan and Special Agent Seeley Booth, Emily Deschanel and David Boreanez were the heart of "Bones". But almost as important were the so-called "squints" — the team of scientists who work under Brennan at the fictional Jeffersonian Institute Medico-Legal Lab. That team also comprised the "squinterns" — a rotating cast of interns at the institute who work with Brennan on various cases. So integral to the show were these supporting characters that saying goodbye to the "squinterns" for the season finale caused Emily Deschanel to break down in tears.
Agent Booth used the term "squints" to refer to Brennan and her team in the very first episode of the series back in 2005, and the term stuck throughout the show's 12-season run, right up to its 2017 finale. As Boreanez explained it:
"It's a term that I'd never heard of until we started the pilot [...] [The scientists are] always down, squinting at their pieces of paper.

"Bones" episode titles all sound like perverse "Nancy Drew" novels. Instead of "The Clue in the Diary" or "The Message in the Hollow Oak," you get "The Headless Witch in the Woods" and "The Passenger in the Oven." But then, "Bones" is loosely based on Kathy Reichs' crime novels, and features a protagonist who aside from being a forensic anthropologist also writes mystery books. In that sense, the slightly macabre mystery novel episode titles fit nicely with the show's overall tone.
What's more, much like Nancy Drew (at least in her later novels), Emily Deschanel's Temperance "Bones" Brennan isn't afraid to travel in service of her investigations into witches in the woods or passengers in ovens. In fact, in the latter case she and FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) actually found themselves solving one such mystery en-route to China. In other episodes the pair have left their Washington D.

Forensic anthropology is not for the impatient. It requires long, tedious hours of poring over and trying to make sense of bone fragments, so you'd better be a real nerd when it comes to loving the minutiae of the human skeleton. It's also not a field for the squeamish. As you might imagine, the human remains you have to recover and analyze at crime scenes can be deeply upsetting.
"Bones" fans would know all about that. The longtime Fox mainstay was full of utterly gross and gnarly scenes, like the time its heroes, Special Agent Seeley Booth (David Boreanaz) and Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel), found themselves staring down the barrel of a bathtub full of liquified body parts in the season 2 episode "The Truth in the Lye". Bones, never one to be easily phased by a nauseating sight in her workplace, quickly sets to work examining the melted...

“Let’s face it, I had a bad script,” director Michael Bay said on the commentary track of his debut feature film, Bad Boys. Bay isn’t wrong. Bad Boys relies on buddy comedy tropes already established in 1974’s Freebie and the Bean and 1982’s 48 Hrs., complete with nonsense plot points. “But I had real comic talent in my two stars.” Bay of course means Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. Drawn from the popular sitcoms Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Lawrence and Smith saved the movie from the clunky script with their easy chemistry and comic timing.
At one point, however, Bad Boys had two very different stars in mind with a comic chemistry unlike that of Lawrence and Smith.

Roadmap Writers, a screenwriting education and training platform based in Los Angeles, is partnering with Hollywood producer Barry Josephson to identify short stories fit for film and television adaptation.
The competition, open now and running through June 14, seeks commercial-leaning work and carries a cash prize of $7,000. The top three stories will be published on Roadmap Writers.
Short stories have become coveted in the rights market, especially over the past year, and have led to bidding wars among the major studios and streamers. Author Victor Sweetser sold the innovative haunted house film “The Occupant” to New Line this year, and Matt Query got a 7-figure deal at Netflix for his Reddit short story “My Wife and I Bought a Ranch.”
For the Josephson competition, scouters are asking for work no longer than 50 pages and can be of any genre. In addition to the short story, authors are requested to submit a...

Set in an Argentinian prison in 1981. Lopez is to play the titular role, a fantasy woman named Aurora created by Luis Molina, a gay hairdresser serving an eight-year sentence for allegedly corrupting a minor. Molina’s life is upended when a Marxist, Valentin Arregui Paz, is brought into his cell, and the two form an unlikely bond.

Imagine if you will a line of dominoes that increase in size as they move left to right. A man stands behind the smallest domino, poised to knock it forward, which will instigate a chain reaction leading to the largest domino toppling over. This "domino theory" illustration helps to visualize the causal interconnection between a seemingly innocuous event in the past and a monumental event in the present or near future. It's especially handy when attempting to understand how 20th Century Fox studio head Darryl F. Zanuck's mother getting a cold in 1908 led indirectly to the creation and broad success of the comedy procedural series "Bones" in 2005. And not because "Bones" was a Fox show. The connection is much more serpentine and intriguing.
You see, when the Wahoo, Wisconsin-born Sarah Louise Zanuck caught a hard-to-shake chill in the latter years of the 20th century's first decade, she thought it'd...

"Bones" has been off the air for more than six years. But in an age where broadcast TV shows are finding big audiences on streaming, it feels like this is exactly the kind of series that could be primed for a revival. And the show's creator Hart Hanson actually agrees. However, it's not as simple as getting everyone to agree to come back, as there are some complicated business matters that would need to be ironed out first.
"We are in contact with each other. Everybody on 'Bones' is in contact with each other. At separate times, it's like, 'What are you doing? What's the availability?'" Hanson said to Variety in July of this year. So, at the very least, it seems like stars Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, as well as other key players, like each other and would be open to a revival. But Hanson...

It’s perhaps a Herculean task to take on the challenge of making a sequel to a movie an entire generation came up on. So, Adam Shankman decided to do it twice in one year. And, according to the filmmaker, the real challenge of making a sequel is realizing that fans don’t always want too much growth in their characters.
First, he executive produced “Hocus Pocus 2” for Disney+, and now, he’s celebrating the release of “Disenchanted,” which he directed. Of course, he celebrated very far away from social media for the first few days on the latter, so he can avoid seeing too many reactions, good or bad. He’s happy with what he made, and he simply hopes the people who came up on “Enchanted” are happy too.

The new Disney+ film "Disenchanted" is a long time coming, following up the 2007 comedy that served as Amy Adams' breakout role. In "Disenchanted," Giselle, an animated princess who winds up in New York City, inadvertently brings fairytale characters, like her old friend Pip the chipmunk, to our world. This time around, Pip's a lot chattier, and is now voiced by Griffin Newman, comedian, co-host of the popular movie podcast "Blank Check with Griffin and David," and actor from "The Tick" and "Masters of the Universe: Revelation."

The success of Hocus Pocus 2 as the most watched Disney+ movie of all-time with a first weekend of 2.7 billion views viewed spurred many to question whether the sequel to the near 30 year old movie should have gone theatrical, especially during a dry spell at the fall box office when theaters were desperate for it.
The thing is some of these greenlights for direct-to-Disney+ movies happened during the pandemic, when movie theaters were closed and research showed that women would be the most difficult to return to cinemas. In addition, such long-awaited sequels to female-skewing fare seemed more ripe to eventize on Disney+ versus rolling the dice theatrically.

Disney has released the official trailer for the “Enchanted” sequel, “Disenchanted,” set to premiere exclusively on Disney+ Nov. 24.

“Disenchanted” takes place 15 years after Giselle and Robert’s happily ever after, in which the couple and Robert’s daughter Morgan (Gabrielle Baldacchino) move to the suburbs. Don DeLillo’s debut novel, “Americana,” is set to be adapted 51 years after it was first published.
“White Noise” producer Uri Singer has bought the rights to the 1971 novel, continuing his streak of adapting a string of DeLillo works that have been deemed “unadaptable.”
“Americana” tells the story of David Bell, an out-of-touch television executive who sets off on a road trip with his female colleague, Sullivan, to make an avant-garde film. The book explores the intricacies of corporate culture and examines how we create realities, whether they are true or not.
Singer tells Variety: “When you read ‘Americana,’ you understand how Don developed into the literary icon he is today. It’s the story of an ‘American Psycho’-type of protagonist, minus the murder, in the toxic and cut-throat world of television, with all the extraordinary minor characters that mark a DeLillo work. Where ‘American Psycho’ just shows the protagonist as he is,...

“Enchanted” will always be known as the movie that introduced most of the world to Amy Adams, whisking her from the darling of indie films like “Drop Dead Gorgeous” and “Junebug” to one of Hollywood’s most in-demand actors.
But a large part of the reason audiences fell in love with Amy Adams is because they fell under the spell of “Enchanted” as a whole. In director Kevin Lima and writer Bill Kelly’s 2007 film, Adams plays Giselle, a maiden of the mythical Andalasia who sings to forest critters and dreams of falling in love. She finds what she’s looking for in Prince Edward (James Marsden), but before they can go live happily ever after, his nefarious mother Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) sends her flying through a portal to New York City. There, Giselle crosses paths with cynical divorce lawyer Robert (Patrick Dempsey) and his daughter Morgan (Rachel Covey). Soon,...

Feared in studio circles for his take-no-prisoners representation for the likes of Scarlett Johansson in her quickly settled and lucrative Black Widow dispute with Disney last year, profit participation maestro Berlinski has settled into the 41-year old firm’s Entertainment Group. “Bird Marella’s deep bench of experienced entertainment lawyers was a huge draw to the practice,” says Berlinski of his new digs. “I’m excited to apply the knowledge and skills that I’ve honed over the past two decades to support the firm’s well-earned reputation as one of the country’s top entertainment and trial boutiques.”

Exclusive: Two-time Primetime Emmy winner Maya Rudolph, Yvette Nicole Brown and Jayma Mays are boarding Disenchanted, the Disney+ Enchanted sequel starring Amy Adams, Idina Menzel and James Marsden
Disney Studios’ President of Production Sean Bailey announced the sequel at Disney Investor Day back in December. Adams, Menzel and Marsden are reprising their respective roles of Giselle, Nancy and Prince Edward from the original film, with composer Alan Menken also returning. He said during a Jlgb Virtual livestream that Marsden and Menzel would be returning for Disenchanted.
The 2007 live-action movie was a satire on Disney animated princess musicals, a fish-out-of-water tale about a cartoon princess who is submerged in modern-day New York City. I hear Rudolph will play a villain in the sequel with Brown and Mays also potentially portraying evil as well.
Adam Shankman is directing for a production start later this spring. Producers are Barry Josephson, Adams, and Barry Sonnenfeld.

Fox has settled its long-running profits litigation over the crime show “Bones,” during which an arbitrator accused top Fox executives of lying on the witness stand.
The arbitrator, Peter Lichtman, issued a blistering ruling in February, in which he accused Dana Walden, Gary Newman and Peter Rice of engaging a “reprehensible” cover-up of Fox’s behavior.
The plaintiffs — actors David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel and producers Kathy Reichs and Barry Josephson — alleged that Fox had cheated them out of tens of millions of dollars in profit participations.
Lichtman awarded them $50 million in compensatory damages and another $128 million in punitive damages — one of the largest such judgments in Hollywood history. Fox’s attorneys, however, persuaded Judge Richard Rico that Lichtman had exceeded his authority, and Rico agreed in May to set aside the punitive damages award.
At the time, the plaintiffs’ attorneys vowed to appeal. Instead, they settled the dispute on undisclosed terms.

Both parties filed dismissal papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, which brings an end to the ongoing lawsuit that was first filed in 2015. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
The dispute centered on the license fees that the Fox network, Fox’s foreign affiliates and the streaming service Hulu — in which 21st Century Fox has a stake — paid to 20th Century Fox for the rights to air or stream the series. “Bones” aired on Fox from 2005 to 2017.

Nearly four years after executive producer Barry Josephson first filed his breach of contract and fraudulent inducement complaint against Fox over millions in alleged lost profits from the long running Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz-led series, the now Disney-owned entity has reached a deal to end the legal battle.

The Bones profit dispute isn't done making a splash — and that goes beyond a forthcoming appeal over a judge's decision to slash a $179 million ruling from an arbitrator who slammed 21st Century Fox TV for a "company-wide culture and an accepted climate that enveloped an aversion for the truth."
Yes, Bones stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel as well as executive producer Barry Josephson plan on going to a California appellate court to challenge the wiping out of $128 million in punitive damages, but there's another aspect of the case being litigated.

Less than two months after a California judge eviscerated the unprecedented $179 million award that Bones executive producers and stars won in their long running profits participation legal clash with 21st Century Fox, Barry Josephson today added fraud to his claims against the now Disney-owned entity.
“Tcftv’s promise to Plaintiff that his Magr (Modified Adjusted Gross Receipts) participation on the Series would be 12.5% of Magr reducible to a ‘floor’ of 7.5% of Magr was false when made, as Tcftv had no intention of honoring that floor and, on information and belief, always intended to reduce Plaintiff below that floor,” proclaimed the Ep’s Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert Llp attorneys on Wednesday, shaking up a expected to be staid status conference hearing in Dtla on the nearly four-year old suit with an amended complaint in the astringent matter.

“The Tick” has been canceled after two seasons at Amazon.
Series creator Ben Edlund broke the news on Twitter. “I’m sorry to say Amazon has chosen not to proceed with [‘The Tick’],” Edlund wrote. “I’m not sorry to say I love this show, its cast, its story, and its message. Destiny demands that my compatriots and I now seek a new home for this series.”
Edlund is the creator of the comic book on which the show was based. Peter Serafinowicz starred as the title character, a nigh-invulnerable superhero who fights crime in The City dressed as a massive blue tick. He is assisted in his quest for justice by Arthur Everest (Griffin Newman), a normal human who uses a moth-like suit in order to serve as The Tick’s sidekick. The series also starred Valorie Curry, Brendan Hines, Scott Speiser, Yara Martinez, and featured the voice of Alan Tudyk as Dangerboat.
