“Squid Game” star Lee Jung-Jae has been cast as the male lead in Disney+’s upcoming “Star Wars” show “The Acolyte,” alongside previously announced star Amandla Stenberg.
Going farther back in time than any live-action “Star Wars” project before it, “The Acolyte” will take place in the last days of the High Republic Era, centuries before “The Phantom Menace,” where the thought-to-be eradicated Siths have returned. “Russian Doll” co-creator Leslye Headland will be showrunning.

Speaking to TheWrap last year, Headland — who is the first queer woman to be behind a “Star Wars” title — said “The Phantom Menace” appealed to her upon its release, when she was first discovering her sexuality.

Je-yong Lee's Actresses is a mockumentary that features six of Korea's best known actresses. In a faux Vogue photoshoot, six women, each representing their generation, mingle on a seemingly never-ending Christmas Eve.
Actresses is an unconventional movie that blends elements from different genres. The film explores the notion of fame and celebrity and the impact of both elements on female public figures.
Aesthetically, Actresses is reminiscent of a documentary, as the film employs the familiar hand-held method of shooting. The fact that none of the characters are aware of the ever-present camera, however, creates a very different feel in the way we observe these characters. At times I had remind to myself that the characters that these women play are ultimately... characters.
The film is scripted, although it is evident that most of the dialogue is obviously improvised. The banter between the characters is what keeps the film going.

SEOUL -- In a sign of the growing importance of new media in Korea's entertainment scene, production company Ahn's World Production announced Thursday that its latest project, an adaptation of popular Internet comic strip Multi-Cell Girl, will be made as a theatrical release and a 100-episode series for Digital Multimedia Broadcasting. DMB is a new platform being developed in Korea that promises high-quality pictures and CD-quality sound for cell phones and other portable devices at speeds of up to 200 km/h. E.J. Yong (also known as Lee Je-yong), the director behind the 2003 hit Untold Scandal, will be directing the movie version of Multi-Cell Girl, while up to 20 directors -- including Kim Dae-seung (Blood Rain) and Kim Dong-bin (Red Eye) -- will produce about 100 10-minute episodes to go directly to DMB.

LONDON -- Organizers of this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival said they have replaced the event's scheduled closing-night movie, Wong Kar-Wai's 2046, with E.J. Yong's Untold Scandal because the former film "will not finish editing until the beginning of September." The replacement film has been chosen by organizers from the existing festival program and is billed as a "magnificent South Korean remake of 'Dangerous Liaisons.' " "Obviously it's disappointing", the festival's artistic director, Shane Danielsen, said Friday in a statement. "But it's not entirely unforeseen. Ultimately, this is just one of the pitfalls of working with eccentric artistic geniuses. But we wish him well with the film -- which, when it's finally finished, will probably be even more amazing than it already is." Wong's film screened at the Festival de Cannes this year, but it gave organizers there some heart-stopping moments with the print only jetting in at the last minute before unspooling.
