The hit and miss nature of both early 2000s horror and the premise are quite obvious in today’s selection. While the original Willard and its sequel Ben are known entities, it’s not like they are the heaviest of hitters in terms of horror property. In fact, Willard is Exactly the type of property that I will always argue needs a remake. Well, needs is a strong word, but it lends itself better to a remake than something as perfect as the first Halloween or Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Willard is a solid movie but underseen by today’s audience and would have maybe been more attractive to the audiences of 21 years ago who maybe grew up with the original. Sadly, that didn’t happen as it was arguably one of 2003’s biggest flops and that’s a huge bummer because not only is the movie fun with great, mostly practical effects,...

Jason Statham is a franchise unto himself. He tends to more or less play the same growly-voiced butt-kicking macho man over and over with superficial differences, like how his titular super-spy in "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre" enjoys a fine wine. Or how his personal driver, Frank Martin, in "The Transporter" films is meticulous about keeping his suits clean and neatly pressed. You always know exactly what to expect from his films and there's a comfort in that. They embody the type of "Action Movies Your Dad Watches" that were the bread and butter of networks like TNT and TBS in the pre-streaming age of cable.
In recent years, Netflix has stepped in to meet that same demand with a fresh supply of original action films of ... let's just say varied quality. But why settle for Netflix's latest pale imitation of a well-established action property when you can get the...

It’s that time of the month again to go through all comics laced with more than a hint of adamantium.
All New Wolverine #22
Writer: Tom Taylor | Artist: Leonard Kirk | Inks: Cory Hamscher | Colours: Michael Garland & Erick Arciniega | Letters: Joe Sabino
Laura continues her journey into the larger Marvel Universe this issue teaming with everyone’s favourite space adventurers The Guardians Of The Galaxy. This is a new story arc that follows directly on from the previous ‘Immune’ arc. However there is enough information given to easily pick this issue up and enjoy it without having read the previous three. I can’t stress enough how much of a fan of three issue story arcs I am. I think I have mentioned it in every review so far. With all the guests stars that have appeared in the series so far Taylor does a brilliant job of keeping voices unique.

It’s that time of the month again to go through all comics laced with more than a hint of adamantium. This month I will bring you up to speed on the previous three issues of Weapon X, All New Wolverine #20-#21 and then review the first issue from the new creative team on Old Man Logan #25. Before I get into the reviews I must apologise for not giving proper credits for the books I reviewed last month, so that will be rectified from here on in.
Weapon X #2-#4
Writer: Greg Pak | Artist: Greg Land/Ibraim Roberson | Inks: Jay Leisten | Colours: Frank D’Armata | Letters: Joe Caramagna
The second and third issues of this series have a certain feel of the writer following a paint by numbers. That being said I am enjoying the series thus far, but because of the characters involved and the concept of Weapon X always appeals to me.

Skrein will portray one of her potential targets, a villainous cyborg named Zapan, who is in possession of a weapon known as the Damascus blade. Civil War #1
Story: Brian Michael Bendis Art: David Marquez
Review: I don’t really get why this event is happening. I mean I get it in the sense of Captain America: Civil War is out in theaters and Marvel is I’m sure hoping to gain some traction from that, I get that the previous Civil War event was a big deal and its sort of “resurrection” during Secret Wars was popular, and I guess in the end Marvel just absolutely had to do another Civil War (See the term “Cash Grab”). Astonishing Ant-Man #8
Click on all images for a larger view.
Story: Nick Spencer Art: Brent Schoonover Colors: Jordan Boyd
Review: Nick Spencer is excellent with witty dialogue, giving us likeable but definitely flawed characters. Astonishing Ant-Man has really kept the vibe from Superior Foes of Spider-Man, including now having the Beetle as supporting cast member. This issue we get some great henchman/bad guy dialogue, as well as a pretty hilarious fight sequence. Brent Schoonover continues to show how much fun he is having drawing these characters, with Jordan Boyd’s colors making everything pop just right. Everything about the book is ridiculous and fun, and should remain on any readers pull list.
Score: B+

Well, he’s not our villain for almost plunging a knife into Frank Martin’s face, (although if he had succeeded there might be a chance we wouldn’t be subjected to The Transporter 4). We hate him because his ludicrous plan was the premise for this movie, which was possibly the worst action flick I’ve seen since well, The Transporter 2. The problem is this, and see if you can explain it to me Johnson. Published by Marvel Comics
In Darth Vader #14, another joins the “Vader Down” mix as the Imperial Commander Karbin, who resembles the not so sexy love child of General Grievous and Admiral Ackbar, touches down on Vrogas Vas to get Luke Skywalker for himself after Vader eliminates the Rebels himself. It’s a masterstroke of both strategy and plotting from Kieron Gillen and Jason Aaron and adds a much needed element of unpredictablity to the crossover. Along with the epic clash of lightsabers between Vader and Karbin, there is Chewbacca’s (and kind of Han Solo’s) fight against the Wookiee bounty hunter Krrsantan and Luke getting ambushed by the lethal combination of Karbin’s stormtroopers and Vader’s lethal henchdroids, Triple Zero and BT. Definitely lots of plates to spin, and...

The Razzies, aka the Golden Raspberry Awards, are the annual “anti-Oscars”, celebrating the very “worst” that cinema has to offer. Though the official nominations have already been announced, they were really off the mark, so let’s correct that, combing through 2015 for the most agonisingly awful performances that deserve to be recognised as such.
The actual awards tend to target what’s fashionable to hate rather than the genuinely worse movies and performances of the year, hence why Twilight has been repeat-nominated in the past (it’s bad, but not that bad), and this year, Adam Sandler and Kevin James were picked on despite being far from the worst.
In fact, it’s a testament to some of the shoddy performances we’ve seen this past year that, despite starring in three terrible movies in 2015 (The Cobbler, Pixels and The Ridiculous 6), Sandler’s work was more dull...

I not going to hide the fact I’m a huge Transporter fan, from the very first movie to the more recent, if little seen here in the UK, TV show, I’ve enjoyed [to various extents] each and every entry in the franchise. My only worry was that no-one connected to the original films, apart from Luc Besson, had any part of this film… But then that was also the case with the series, and I really enjoyed that!

While action films are often considered something of a ‘boys’ club’, there’s no denying that in the last few decades, the girls have more than proved they can hold their own, with a brilliant array of deadly leading ladies hitting the big screen. The Transporter Refuelled (out on Blu-ray, DVD and digital platforms from December 26th 2015 courtesy of Icon Film Distribution) is no exception, featuring a kick-ass femme fatale accompanied by a trio of deadly sidekicks- and to celebrate the release, we’re looking back on some other equally lethal leading ladies…

The Transporter: Refueled
Written by Luc Besson, Bill Collage and Adam Cooper
Directed by Camille Delamare
France/China, 2015
Whereas each of the first three Transporter vehicles were released at three-year intervals, Refueled arrived in theatres in September of 2015, seven years since audiences last saw lone wolf Frank Martin pack a mean punch towards clients that always try to change the deal. Since then, a television series starring Chris Vance (a co-Canadian production, no less) lasted a couple of seasons and the film franchise’s true star, Jason Statham moved on to bigger things, although whether they were better is entirely up for debate. Luc Besson, co-creator of the first trilogy, saw fit to dive back into the well in the hopes of reviving the character and his many antics in southern France, announcing at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival Frank Martin’s eventual return to the silver screen. Transporter 3
Written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen
Directed by Olivier Megaton
France, 2008
Following another three year hiatus during which time star Jason Statham saw his international stardom continue to grow with a series of adrenaline fueled action vehicles, series caretakers Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen were at it again for a third Transporter film, this time returning protagonist Frank Martin (Statham) to his European roots following a pit stop in Miami for part 2. The former army man, now self-employed driver, is back in France, where he enjoys pleasant fishing expeditions with Inspector Tarconi. His relaxing time off is brutally disturbed one night when a car crashes into his living room, driven by an accomplice of his that Frank himself vouched for not long ago for a contract. Frank discovers Valentina (Natalya Rudakova) in the back seat, and it isn’t long before Frank finds himself caught...

Transporter 2
Written by Luc Besson and Robert Mark Kamen
Directed by Louis Leterrier
France, 2005
It took three full years for Frank Martin (Jason Statham) to make his return to the silver screen following the modest success that was The Transporter in 2002, but not a lot had changed in the interim, notwithstanding a few cosmetic details. Frank still offers his services privately to whomever is willing to pay, only now he has established himself in Miami. In very James Bondian fashion, the previous film’s leading lady is nowhere to be found. This time, it is Audrey (Amber Valleta), beautiful wife to brilliant doctor Jefferson Billings (Matthew Modine), who opines over the rugged entrepreneur. The Billings have hired Frank a month ago to drive their young son Jack to and from school. Frank has, rather surprisingly, developed something of a rapport with the youth, which prompts him into action on...

Revving up its engines and crashing into theatres today is The Transporter Refueled, the fourth film in the action-packed Transporter series. Gone is franchise star Jason Statham and in his place is the perfectly capable Ed Skrein, who plays Frank Martin, a “former special-ops mercenary who enters into a game of chess with a femme-fatale and her three sidekicks who are looking for revenge against a sinister Russian kingpin.”
Packed to the brim with wild car chases, death-defying stunt work and a solid leading performance from Skrein, the film is definitely a good time and should please those who have come to enjoy the franchise over the years.
Recently, we had the chance to catch up with Skrein for an exclusive interview. Taking place in a moving car, it was certainly a very different experience than what we’re used to, but it was a ton of fun. During our short ride,...

The Transporter franchise heads to the south of France in this weekend’s The Transporter Refueled. This time, Frank Martin’s “cargo,” if you will, is a femme fatale and her flunkies who are all up against the Russian mob.
Taking over the role of Frank, “The Transporter,” is Ed Skrein, an English rapper-turned-actor who you may recognize as “Game of Thrones”’ Daario Naharis (before season four when Skrein was mysteriously and unceremoniously replaced). Miss the O.G. Daario? Well, after Refueled, Skrein joins the Marvel Universe in February 2016 as the villain Ajax opposite Canada’s Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool!
The Transporter Refueled – in theatres now! – is again written and produced by Luc Besson (The Professional, Taken), and directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions). Delamarre also has history with the Transporterfranchise, as he was the editor on Transporter 2.

The Transporter Series is one of those franchises that is more or less critic-proof. Regardless of what you hear or read about it, there is an audience that will go see this film for one simple reason; it's mindless, nonsense, entertaining fun. Rebooting a series without it's main star is no easy task, especially when you consider for all their silliness the previous movies turned Jason Statham into a credible action star. Sure they were plot-lite and brainless but when it came to exhilarating action they delivered in spades. This time out, Londoner Ed Skrein fills the tailored suit of Frank Martin, an ex-sas fighter who specialises in a not-so-legal brand of courier service. Martin finds himself embroiled in plot that involves human trafficking, a bunch of super-spy prostitutes and the Russian mafia. Not only that, but his dad, Frank Snr, can't seem to stop getting himself kidnapped and relies...

With a splattering of small roles in film and television, Ed Skrein may not be the most popular name – yet. Each movie, though, each scene, each moment the 32-year-old British actor is striving to improve every part of his craft. That’s welcome news for fans of the Transporter series, which Skrein has taken over from Jason Statham, and especially a good sign for those rabid Marvel fans eagerly awaiting Deadpool.
In The Transporter Refueled, Skrein revives the the role of Frank Martin, a glorified courier whose discretion and service record warrants a high price. Well-dressed and physically adept, he often finds himself dabbling with shady clients, but Martin is up to the task. And, so is Skrein.
“The physical was always going to be the hardest part, always going to be the challenge,” explains Skrein during a press stop in Toronto ahead of the film’s September 4 release. The...

Be it in film or on television, fans really don.t like seeing their favorite characters recast. Once they.ve gotten to know an actor in a certain role, it becomes that they don.t want to see any other actor in that same part. Certainly not helping things is the fact that recasting is often unfortunate and forced, as well as the fact that most recasting situations have had terrible results. There are, however, some key instances where replacing an actor for a follow-up story has actually worked . and those are the performances we want to celebrate today. This week will see Ed Skrien try and replace Jason Statham.s place in pop culture as The Transporter franchise.s new Frank Martin . so we figured now would be a great time to take a look back at some of the instances where a franchise changing actors for a character...

Newcomer Ed Skrein is Jason Statham - sorry, Frank Martin - in this reboot of Luc Besson's Transporter franchise. Full of the fights, fast cars and clunky one-liners fans have come to expect from a series that once saw its hero deflect a rocket with a tea tray*, it works on paper, but not in practice.
Transporter Refuelled's problems lie not in the joyful silliness of watching a muscular Uber driver elaborately dislocate goons' jaws, but in the Stathlessness of it all. Though intellectual property law might call "Frank Martin" a character that exists outside of The Stath™, it's the Guy Ritchie veteran's charm, confidence and world-weary delivery that somehow make Mr Martin special, and try as he might, Skrein can't keep up.
The plot doesn't help, but then the Transporter plots never helped anyone. Take any of the previous three films and the titular gruff punch merchant will...

So many amazingly absurd things occur during the course of “The Transporter: Refueled” that it’s almost easy to forget that the basic idea driving this fourth installment — namely, to reboot the franchise without its reason for existing in the first place: star Jason Statham — is itself nonsensical. Credit that to Bill Collage, Adam Cooper, and Luc Besson (the series’ godfather), whose script is one of those awe-inspiringly dim-witted creations that’s compelled to amplify its insanity at every turn. It’s the kind of movie that has its hero, Frank Martin (Ed Skrein), drive a speeding jet ski up onto a beach and, while it’s still moving, leaping off it and into the window of an SUV that's racing by — feet first! And one that casts Frank’s dad, Frank Sr. (Ray Stevenson), as a covert espionage operative, only to then have the supposed super-spy get kidnapped...

If nothing else, the reboot of the Transporter franchise should do wonders for Audi sales, not to mention car safety. Every passenger who sets foot in the tricked-out, gleaming German automobile driven by the titular character is immediately ordered to fasten their seat belt. It's sound advice, because The Transporter Refueled is a cinematic bumpy ride. Arriving seven years after the final installment of the trilogy originally starring Jason Statham, this latest version, inexplicably set in 2010, features a younger, slighter Frank Martin as played by Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones). It's a real diminishment, and not just in

Ed Skrein went from being recast in one of the biggest shows on television to replacing another star in a huge action franchise. Not a bad turnaround at all, right? The 32-year-old rapper-turned-actor first hit our radar when he was cast as the hunky Daario Naharis on Season 3 of "Game of Thrones," but when the show returned for its fourth season, Michiel Huisman was the one romancing Daenerys Targaryen instead. "Contrary to reports, I didn’t walk away [from the show]. I wouldn’t walk away, there are very few things in my life I’ve walked away from," Skrein tells toofab's Brian Particelli. "This is a complicated industry and there’s always politics involved," he continues. "I never really look back, my journey has been unorthodox in many ways. All I do is count my blessings and try to be as present as I can and I’m thankful for every step of this journey.

Stripped and chopped for parts, the Transporter trilogy could be reassembled into a single solid (and undoubtedly short) action movie. The first one had a fight scene where Jason Statham whirled around poles and through grease like a lethal Magic Mike; the second featured cinema’s first aerial undercarriage bomb disposal; the third contrived a reason to always keep Statham within 75 feet of the franchise’s real star, an Audi automobile. As a whole, however, the three movies were a shoddy refurbishing of American gearhead actioneers into Euro-thriller jalopies. Returning sans Statham, avec everything else, The Transporter: Refueled makes a poor case for rescuing this series from the scrapheap.

Hollywood's next action hero: Ed Skrein on stepping into Jason Statham's shoes and fighting Deadpool
Three years ago Ed Skrein broke through on the big screen with roles in Brit flicks Piggy and Ill Manors. Now, after a brief stop over on Game of Thrones, he's poised to become Hollywood next big action star thanks to The Transporter Refuelled, a fresh take on the franchise previously led by Jason Statham.
Beyond that Skrein will be heading into Fox's Marvel universe to play assassin Ajax in Deadpool. Digital Spy caught up with the fast-rising actor to discuss his two hotly-anticipated movies.
How did Transporter Refuelled get pitched to you - is this a reboot or sequel to the previous films?
"From the beginning, everyone's always spoken about it in terms of when they would change personnel on Bond, that it would keep the same variables and the same things that the franchise is known for. But the change of personnel would change quite a lot of things,...

If you.re one of the fans waiting to see how well The Transporter series weathers the loss of its star, Jason Statham, you don.t have much longer to wait to find out. The Transporter Refueled, with replacement Frank Martin, Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones, Deadpool), roars into theaters early next month, and this quick new trailer is full of fast cars and intense action. You.d expect nothing less. From what we see here in this latest trailer, Skrein looks like he handles himself well taking over the role made famous by Statham, at least the physical elements of the part. He can certainly take care of himself when it comes to throwing down with a room full of stock goons, and he fills out a that sleek black suit nicely. One thing Statham brought to the part, however, was a cocky charm and a dry sense of...

First announced at Cannes two years ago, Luc Besson and his EuropaCorp accomplices' Transporter reboot is now almost upon us. Ed Skrein (Ill Manors and, more recently, Deadpool's Ajax) takes over the driving seat from Jason Statham this time in The Transporter Refuelled, directed by Camille Delamarre (Brick Mansions). And here's the latest trailer, in which the unusually decent Audi driver hurts a number of fools and wrecks a number of vehicles, as is traditional and required. There's also a snazzy jump over a plane. We do love a good car jump.Should you be wondering, the re-casting of the main role has not also prompted the creation of a new character. This is not, we're to accept, a different transporter, but the very same Frank Martin (although we're possibly in prequel territory, which explains the hair). Martin is, you'll recall, the driver who never changes the deal and...

For many, Jason Statham’s hard-boiled Frank Martin is The Transporter, given that the British hard man injected the cult action series with a tenacity that saved it from mediocrity. Now that The Stath has moved on to pastures anew, there are a lot of understandable concerns looming over Camille Delamarre’s (Brick Mansions) reboot effort, though the latest trailer and action-packed clip are an effective one-two punch that prove that, above anything, The Transporter Refueled will retain the franchise’s boisterous action sensibilities.
Supplanting Statham in the lead role is newcomer Ed Skrein, who plays a slightly different version of Frank Martin. While enjoying a holiday with his old man in southern France, Frank’s idyllic downtime is unceremoniously upended by a femme fatale and her group of highly-trained, seductive associates, who together convince our protagonist to orchestrate one of the ambitious bank heists in history.
