Within Shinji Somai's esteemed cinematic repertoire, revered for masterpieces like “Typhoon Club” (1985) and “Moving” (1993), lies a lesser-known gem awaiting rediscovery: “Luminous Woman” (1987). Previously elusive and commanding exorbitant prices for out-of-print, unsubtitled copies, the film now emerges revitalized. Scheduled for release on May 20, 2024, this renaissance of “Luminous Woman” boasts not only a new 2K remaster sourced from the original negatives but also an array of supplementary features. Audiences now have a rare opportunity to delve into this enigmatic, unconventional surrealist and romantic tale.

The story of World Championship Wrestling is one of an amazing rise but then a tragic fall that was hard to watch. While the American wrestling promotion spent much of its early days as second best, WCW figured itself out at a time when the World Wrestling Federation was destroying itself in the ’90s. WCW rose up and became what seemed like an unstoppable force before tripping on its own success while WWF recovered from its mistakes and regained traction. Having lost all that momentum, WCW did itself no favors by spending the next several years making every single bad decision possible. They absolutely could not get a win if they tried.
Now the dead promotion is considered a cautionary tale and a pile-on for jokes about the Shockmaster, David Arquette, the Fingerpoke of Doom, Hulk Hogan being humped by a giant mummy, the fumbling of Steve Austin, Judy Bagwell on a forklift,...

Andy Kaufman, the legendary comedian, prankster and “inter-gender champion”, will be honored as an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame as part of the celebrity wing.
Andy Kaufman may not exactly scream wrestling, but the WWE has defended its decision (certainly not the most controversial this year), noting his history in the world of sports entertainment, particularly his rivalry with Jerry “The King” Lawler. In their official statement, the WWE said, “The rivalry between Lawler and Kaufman became national news leading to a legendary exchange on Late Night with David Letterman. The interaction would later be memorialized in the 1999 movie biopic Man on the Moon, where Lawler appeared alongside Jim Carrey as Kaufman to recreate the iconic moment. Kaufman’s interactions with Lawler transformed the business and opened up pathways for future cross-over Superstars such as Johnny Knoxville who honored the comedian with his WrestleMania 38 ring gear.” Lawler, who...

Andy Kaufman is set to enter the WWE’s Class of 2023 Hall of Fame, TheWrap has learned.
So far, the inductees for WWE’s 2023 Hall of Fame include Great Muta and Rey Mysterio. Joining alongside them will be the entertainer and comedian who died of lung cancer in 1984.
Though her often referred to himself as a “anti-comedian,” Kaufman’s rise to fame started off in small comedy clubs, and eventually working his way to the set of “Saturday Night Live.”
In addition, to becoming well-known for his outrageous stunts, he made his stint in the professional wrestling arena when named himself the Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion because he would wrestle women, offering them $1,000 if they were able to pin him down.

Andy Kaufman is set to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023, Variety has learned.
Kaufman will be inducted alongside this year’s fellow honorees that currently include Rey Mysterio and The Great Muta.
Kaufman is best known for his career on the stage and screen, most famously starring as Latka Gravas in the hit sitcom “Taxi” from 1978-1983. He made his mark on the world of professional wrestling, however, when he declared himself the Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World, offering money to any woman who could pin him as part of his act. This famously led to a feud with fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler in the Continental Wrestling Association in Memphis, Tn.
Despite Lawler and Kaufman being friends, they successfully convinced the audience they were bitter enemies. Kaufman claimed that Lawler broke his neck when Lawler performed a piledriver on him,...

Exclusive: Buffalo 8 has set the digital release of Duality for October 21, Ryan Dowling’s documentary that was granted unprecedented access to an all-star roster of graffiti and street artists.
Once brushed aside – even deemed criminal – graffiti has since paved the way for many successful, credible artists today. With Duality, these street artists – some for the first time, some maintaining a strict code of anonymity – discuss their journeys from “tagging” to becoming respected icons in the cities they serve with pieces that are awe-inspiring in scope, size and complexity. They have collectively proven that their genre of art is something that can influence culture, evoke emotion, inspire, and cultivate community. Their rise has not been without challenges and criticism, but today they are admired by throngs of fans and oftentimes the art they produce brings in revenue for household brands and worldwide corporations. WWE releases come in two flavours, the regular PPV sets that are always good for reliving those favourite moments, and the releases that focus on a particular topic or aspect of the WWE’s illustrious history. These latter releases have proved to be exceedingly well put together over the last few years, having established a winning template of including a feature length documentary accompanied by a couple of dozen matches.
I was somewhat disappointed to discover, then, that the new WWE Us Championship – A Legacy of Greatness release doesn’t include a documentary, as I would have thought that the long and varied history of this often overlooked belt would have been ideal for this treatment.
Instead we get a bumper crop of matches that are introduced in groups by short clips of John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield awkwardly reading off his autocue and not entirely convincing the viewer that he really wants to be there.

I’ve often said that I find the history WWE Blu-Ray releases the best, so when one was released celebrating the Us Championship I was obviously looking forward to it. Although we often see people like John Cena dominating the belt these days it has one of the more interesting histories of any of the belts. WWE – The Us Championship: A Legacy of Greatness reveals just how varied this history is.
The fact that WWE now has a huge library of footage from all kinds of wrestling federations from the past allows them to pull out some real gems. These include matches that aren’t even complete, and don’t feature commentary. This is the case of Ric Flair vs. Ricky Steamboat with Andre the Giant as guest referee. Filmed in 1978 in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling it is a nice addition for the history loving wrestling fan, especially those who love Andre.

David Sinnott
For the past few years, documentary filmmaker David Sinnott has been shoot-interviewing wrestlers and professional fighters, compiling material for his documentary, Nine Legends. It’s a true Mount Rushmore of fighters as well, more than delivering on the ‘Legend’ promise of the title.
The full list of those interviewed by Sinnott for the project are: Goldberg, Bret Hart, The Dynamite Kid, Rob Van Dam, Mike Tyson, Randy Couture, Lita, Ted Dibiase and Chris Jericho. Quite the range of stars, I’m sure you’ll agre.
Fans of wrestling docs may already recognise Sinnott’s name from his acclaimed 2009 effort, Bloodstained Memoirs, which followed a similar template, interviewing another 9 stars, including the likes of Ultimo Dragon, Mick Foley, The Great Muta, Roddy Piper and others.
In Nine Legends, the film hangs on a fictional narrative of an elderly Sinnott, in the year 2050, recounting the stories of his interviews to his grandson.

Other than The Undertaker there are few wrestlers as iconic as Sting. Even to this day he is the face of WCW and seen as one of its most loyal superstars. Now that he’s finally made his move into WWE, we can finally get his story in his own words in Sting: Into the Light.
Featuring the normal style of documentary and selected matches Sting: Into the Light gives us a look into the life of Sting and lets us see the man behind the face paint. We get to hear about how he got into the business in his own words as well as hear him talk about some of the most iconic matches that he has been a part of. Don’t expect any Tna footage here though, but that doesn’t come as a surprise. While his time in Tna is dulled down somewhat, it is mentioned.

Tna has posted the following video which aired on last night’s episode of Impact, hyping the debut of a new star.
The name in question is Jessicka Havok, 28 year old independent wrestler out of Ohio. While there is no timetable set on her debut, the company seems poised to continue releasing teasers for her upcoming debut for several weeks, through their next set of New York tapings.
Havok is a ten year ring veteran, and has competed for the likes of Combat Zone Wrestling, Women Superstars Uncensored, Full Impact Pro, and many others. At 6 feet tall and 170 pounds Havok isn’t the prototypical girl in which Tna features, but will have a unique look that could give her an edge in the promotion. In 2013, Havoc was ranked #4 among the top 50 female singles wrestlers, as voted on by Pro Wrestling Illustrated.

United We Slam: The Best of The Great American Bash begins with early Bash events (1985) and ends with the most recent, and final Bash, from 2000. The way in which the set is laid out has both good and bad points about it. In one...

Once per generation there comes a point wherein United States-based professional wrestling fans become aware of talents based in Japan whose in-ring gifts create a physical charisma that allows them the ability to succeed in America. With World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) apparently quite close to signing well-respected Pro Wrestling Noah star Kenta, this generation’s most dynamic Japanese superstar is about to finally reach American shores.
In the 1970s, it was The Great Kabuki, Antonio Inoki and Giant Baba who filled the role of Pacific Rim names of note, Japanese grapplers following in the tradition of the legendary Rikidozan who first brought the American spectacle of pro wrestling to the Land of the Rising Sun. The 80s and early 90s featured a plethora of talents like Masahiro Chono and Kensuke Sasaki having brief runs in Us-based promotions, though no Japanese (let’s extend that to all non-Americans) wrestler was more iconic than the Great Muta.

Since WWE purchased WCW and the vast video library that came along with it, there have been numerous releases devoted to WCW related content, from the Goldberg set, to the Best of Nitro stuff, down to the Nwo release, but this is the first time WWE has taken a look at the best matches from the rich history of WCW’s Pay-Per-View’s. So here it is, volume one in the greatest matches from the PPV years of WCW.
WCW had some great PPV shows over the years of their existence. From Starrcade to Halloween Havoc, Superbrawl to Uncensored, Road Wild to Sin. Okay, ignore Sin, pretend I didn’t say that.
Here, in this 3 DVD/2 Bd set, you get over 20 matches ranging from 1987 until 2001 and the quality is, for the most-part, very high. From true wrestling greats, such as Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Sting, Vader, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage,...

Containing elements of athletic competition, show business and performance magic, professional wrestling is a secretive world of handshakes, industry-jargon and solid, unflinching dedication to a craft that thrills the dedicated fan as much as it bewilders the casual onlooker.
It isn’t a straight fight; that much ought to be obvious to anyone who’s ever been in an actual fight, but then again, it certainly isn’t the phoney baloney silliness that many people deride it as either. Pro wrestling is as hard (or harder) than any other sport on this Earth. It has no off-season and wrestlers routinely work while struggling with injuries that would send a bus driver or office worker into early retirement (no, I’m not exaggerating).
Because this insular world of performance art was so secretive for so many years (some would-be wrestlers even had their eyes gouged out by overzealous pros looking to...

Cool! 56 year old Cynthia Rothrock is back! Rothrock was the undefeated middleweight Kickboxing/Weapons lady champion for five consecutive years and starred in a boatload of Dtv action adventures in the ’80s and ’90s. She has not been in a film since 2004′s Sci-fighter but she’s making a comeback in Double Fury, to be filmed this summer, and I’m kinda jazzed!
Here are the details:
SaintSinner Entertainment (www.saintsinnerent.com) along with Jaunted Productions (www.jauntedproductions.com) is currently in pre-production for a martial arts action film that’ll shoot this summer titled Double Fury.
The film was written and will be directed by Amel J. Figueroa, and stars veteran martial arts action stars Richard Norton (Mr. Nice Guy) and Cynthia Rothrock (China O’Brien), as well as rising stars Cyrus Samson (Night of the Living Dead – 2012), Dennis Ronin (The Sickness), Natalie Amenula (Hamlet 2), Cynthia Housel (Iniquity...

Independent film company SaintSinner Entertainment, along with Jaunted Productions are currently in pre-production on a new martial arts action film that’ll shoot this summer titled Double Fury. And I’m excited to see the finished product already!
Why? Well the film, which is written and directed by Amel J. Figueroa (The Quiet Ones) sees veteran martial arts action stars (and my favourite on screen pairing) Richard Norton and Cynthia Rothrock re-teaming once again for the film which follows two estranged brothers brought back together after their father is murdered by a megalomaniacal madman who’s looking for a volatile package in one of their possession that could destroy all that they hold dear.
Double Fury also features a number of rising stars Cyrus Samson (Night of the Living Dead – 2012), Dennis Ronin (The Sickness), Natalie Amenula (Hamlet 2), Cynthia Housel (Iniquity), Rommel Gargoles (Black Ninja) and Laura Lynn Cottrel (The Replacements...

Courtesy of Warner Bros, we got the chance to check out the complete (and totally forgotten) Chuck Norris cartoon series on DVD. Filled with the old school charm of the 80s, it’s does just about everything you’d want a show like this to do.
The Set-up
I know what you’re thinking...We’re a movie site. Why the Hell am I reviewing this thing. Well the truth is I couldn’t help myself. When Warner Bros. asked if I wanted to review Chuck Norris and the Karate Kommandos on DVD, I was compelled to say yes. I love old cartoons from the Hanna-Barbara age. Personally, I think they’re the best and my son and I still watch them on Boomerang when I’m home. Combine that with Chuck Norris and I’m sold.
Here’s the official Synopsis:
Martial arts master Chuck Norris brings his thrilling...

Today is Chuck Norris' birthday — and that is a Chuck Norris Fact. Sure, we all know the star of "The Octagon" hasn't actually aged since the day he thought he saw a gray hair and made Father Time taste his boot heel, but we still set aside one day each year to celebrate everything Chuck Norris has given us.
Take, for example, "Chuck Norris and the Karate Kommandos." The animated series debuted in 1986 and featured Norris (of course) and a team of highly trained government operatives as they battled Super Ninja and his villainous buddies. The series only lasted five episodes, but also spawned a comic book series published by Marvel's kid-friendly imprint Star Comics.
Having grown up with the series (and dressing up as the Karate Kommandos' leader for at least one Halloween), I had to ask Norris about it when he dropped by Splash Page HQ last...

I know we've shared some "funny" versions of your favorite cartoon shows in the past, but folks, today is not about jokes. It's about roundhouse kicks to the face. It's about flying fists of justice. It's about sumo-wrestlers and kids who shout "Too Much!". It's about a guy named "Super Ninja" voiced by someone who sounds a bit like Cobra Commander. This morning, ComicMix is proud forced scared to honored to present a cartoon so good, it only needed to be on for 5 episodes.
Chuck Norris: Karate Kommandos, the cartoon so good that it caused the Challenge of the Go-Bots to become the Transformers, and He-Man to become Sheera.
