Greta Scacchi, daughter Leila George and Sam Corlett will next week start production on “He Ain’t Heavy” a West Australia-set drama by first time feature director David Vincent Smith.
Inspired by true events, “He Ain’t Heavy” follows a desperate sister who kidnaps her beloved brother to save him from addiction.
George is a fast-rising star. With credits already including “Animal Kingdom,” “The Kid” and “Mortal Engines,” she is now coming off the back of Patricia Arquette’s upcoming directorial debut “Gonzo Girl” and recently starred alongside Cate Blanchett, Kevin Klein and Lesley Manville in Alfonso Cuaron’s new thriller “Disclaimer” for Apple TV. She is the central figure in “He Ain’t Heavy” playing daughter to Scacchi’s character and sister to Corlett’s.

It’s been far too long since Colorado bass pioneer Pretty Lights A.K.A. Derek Vincent Smith released new music. As rumors of the DJ/producer’s heroin addiction only circulated further when he bombed last year’s Pretty Lights Red Rocks performances his sparse releases made fans fear the worst – but his new track, “Only Yesterday,” ought to at least quell some of the electronic music community’s concerns.
What’s more, Smith has released an official music video for the track that features themes as nostalgic as its title. A series of nature and crowd shots taken in Telluride, Colorado are montaged together with effects intended to mimick the patina of an old film reel, effectively capturing the laid-back ethos of Colorado bass.
As far as “Only Yesterday” itself is concerned, though, Smith has set too high of a bar with his previous releases for it to stand out as memorable work.

“Meat’s meat and a man’s gotta eat!” Heed the battle cry of Farmer Vincent Smith, maker of the finest smoked meats around. People would come from far and wide to purchase his delectable fritters, unaware that his special ‘ingredient’ was plain folk, like you and me. 35 years ago, Vincent and his Motel Hell cut off a slice of Americana and served it up in theaters, with a heaping help of humor for good measure. Cannibalism was never this down home friendly.
My initial memories of Motel Hell formulated around two images: The front cover of Issue #9 (November 1980) of Fangoria magazine, the new horror monthly that specialized in the kind of gruesome images that it’s gentler forefather, Famous Monsters of Filmland, wasn’t comfortable delving in to. Upon the cover was a picture of a man in bib overalls, wearing a pig’s head and brandishing a blood...

“It takes all kinds of critters to make Farmer Vincent’s Fritters”
For this weekend’s Late Night Grindhouse, the madmen at Destroy the Brain are offering up the 1980 classic Motel Hell, a hilarious, offensive, inventive and twisted foray into happy go lucky cannibalism land. Farmer Vincent (Rory Calhoun) and his sister Nancy (Ida Smith – who played Mrs Balbricker in Porkys) kidnap passing motorists and fatten them up in their garden to convert them into tasty snacks for travelers who stop in at the cozy Motel Hello. As farmer Vincent Smith says, “There’s too many people in the world and not enough food. Now this takes care of both problems at the same time.” Motel Hell’s twisted little storyline and fun antics make for a hell of a good time. I saw Motel Hell on the big screen over 30 years ago when I was in college and I...

Bon appétit! It is the chef, or the cook if you will, that makes all the magic happen with the food we eat. The right chef can take your ordinary meal and make it extraordinary… or is that Hamburger Helper? Anyway, here are the Top 9 Sinister Chefs in horror.
With the release of Serving Up Richard (review), we decided to dig down deep and remember some of our favorite chefs and cooks throughout the history of horror.
Whether they be chefs of the gourmet variety, or they just threw something (like a boiling bunny) on the stove, the following list of ne'er-do-wells all know their way around a kitchen. And that's one of the reasons why we love them.
As always, we'll give you a few honorable mentions to get things going. Glenn Close's previously referenced character, Alex Forrest, was perhaps not a true chef, but she sure knew...

The latest TV news, in bite-sized snacky form.
Betty White's "Off Their Rockers," the show featuring senior citizens pranking victims, was canceled by NBC earlier this year, but Lifetime has picked up the ball, ordering a third season. It will premiere in 2014, but no specific date has been announced yet. [THR]
"The Mentalist" has promoted a new actor to series regular -- before his episodes have even aired. Rockmund Dunbar ("Sons of Anarchy") was originally slated for a 3-episode arc, but will now be a series regular as Dennis Abbott -- "a no-nonsense FBI Supervisory Agent who isn't impressed by Patrick Jane's skills or charm." [TV Line]
Amandla Stenberg, best known as Rue in "The Hunger Games" movie, will recur on "Sleepy Hollow" beginning in November. She'll play Macey, the teen daughter of Capt. Frank Irving (Orlando Jones). [THR]

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) is set to direct and executive produce a drama project for ABC and ABC Studios. Written/exec producer by Chris Downey (Leverage) and co-created/exec produced by Apollo Robbins (The Gentleman Thief), the untitled drama centers on Alice Jones, an FBI forensic psychiatrist, who teams up with Vincent Smith, a brilliant pickpocket-turned-Las Vegas magician, to catch bad guys living it up in Vegas in elaborate stings. Each week, Vince and Alice are ably assisted Ocean’s Eleven-style, by a rogue’s gallery of Sin City hustler, card cheats and showgirls. Downey and Robbins are repped by CAA and Jaimie Afifi; Campbell is with CAA and Walter Teller and Ken Richman. ABC has put in development The Law Of Attraction, a legal drama written-executive produced by veteran TV writers, married couple Jonathan Shapiro (The Practice) and Betsy Borns (All of Us), in their first collaboration. It follows a beautiful,...

Manchester, Tenn. -- Memories are a jumble walking out of the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Days blend together, sound memories clash and surface. Hipster moustaches made from pink glow sticks haunt your dreams. And that smell. The horror.
A few things really stuck out this year, though, as we reviewed things following Tom Petty's rain-drenched, festival-closing 2 1/2-hour set. Here's a look at five:
Rock `n' roll will never die: Those who think rock `n' roll is irrelevant or even dead need to pay a visit to the farm. It may be showing its age – eternally rocking Paul McCartney and Petty and The Heartbreakers were the two most prominent headliners – and electronica and hip-hop are elbowing their way in – witness start turns by Macklemore, Kendrick Lewis and A$AP Rocky, who brought more than 20,000 fans to a tent designed to hold 5,000. But it's really still rock `n' roo.
Just ask Derek Vincent Smith,...

★★★☆☆ English director Kevin Connor's schlock comedy Motel Hell (1980) is perhaps best remembered for providing two of horror cinema's catchiest tag-lines - "Meat's meat, and a man's gotta eat" and "It takes all kinda critters to make Farmer Vincent's fritters". However these expressions uttered by the film's protagonist and his homicidal sister also sum-up the essence of a film which is as unsettling today as it was when first released over thirty years ago. Vincent Smith (Rory Calhoun) and his sister Ida (Nancy Parsons) run 'Motel Hello', one of the most hospitable roadside hostels in America's Deep South.
The Smiths are also famous for the spiced meat they make from livestock reared on their own land. People may not be so keen to stop by however if they knew the secret ingredient which goes into Farmer Vincent's succulent delicacies, and if they realised that by booking into the motel they'll...

Earlier this year, we saw the Wtf pairing of the millennium when Jack White teamed up with the loud and crude Insane Clown Posse for a one-off track. In another perplexingly rando collab, it appears that the surviving members of The Doors have gotten together in the studio with dubstep king Skrillex.
The collaboration comes compliments of a new documentary, "Re:generation," which finds five popular DJs/producers working with artists from five very different genres: Pretty Lights got country with Leann Rimes and Ralph Stanley; DJ Premeire joined Nas for a composition with the Berklee School of Music Orchestra; digital masterminds the Crystal Method spent two days in Detroit recording an R&B number with Martha Reeves; and super producer, Mark Ronson recruited Erykah Badu along with some members of the Dap Kings to join Trombone Shorty in his home town of New Orleans for a jazz tune.
