“Game of Thrones” came to an end last May and HBO has wasted no time in getting to work on continuing the franchise, ordering to series the “GoT” spinoff “House of the Dragon” last October.
But when can you expect this 10-episode prequel, co-created by George R.R. Martin and “Colony” co-creator Ryan Condal, to actually make it to the airwaves? Well, we can’t tell you for certain, but HBO programming chief Casey Bloys gave TheWrap his best guess — which is essentially the best guess you’re gonna get right now.
“They are in-room writing,” Bloys told us during the Television Critics Association press tour Wednesday. “My suspicion is, this is looking a ways out, but my suspicion is it would be on air sometime in 2022. That’s with a big asterisk, but right now, that’s what I would say.”

Chicago – The year 2019 was when everyone, including myself, seemed to struggle to focus. Politics suddenly appeared to be all consuming when we have an administration as George Orwell predicted, trying to convince so many not to believe their own eyes.
“What you are seeing and what you are reading is not happening,” proclaimed the President in July. This eerily echoed Orwell’s warning. “The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears … it was their final, most essential command.” Meanwhile the Commander-in-Chief was enthusiastically tweeting out images with his head badly photoshopped onto different bodies.
Last year 98 celebrities posed for my lens, and a fashion accessory – both on and off the red carpet – became quickly apparent. A modest poem about that trend … If you were a fashionable male/One worshipped by the masses/And you posed for my lens last year/You were probably wearing glasses.

Snub: The final season of “Game of Thrones” had just one shot at winning a statue at the 2020 Golden Globes: Kit Harington. The Jon Snow actor was the only “GoT” cast member nominated for an award — and the show didn’t snag a nod in any other category — so when he lost Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama to “Succession” lead Brian Cox, the eighth and final season lost, too. Welp, either way it was a win for HBO. Cue “Succession” theme song.

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington came up short Sunday at the Golden Globes, falling to HBO’s Succession lead Brian Cox in the Best Actor in a TV Series – Drama category.
The loss was the last hurrah at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s annual shindig for HBO’s epic series based on George Rr Martin’s book series. The show wrapped its record-setting eight-season run in May.
Harrigton’s loss in the category means GoT won just a single Golden Globe among eight nominations in its lifespan. Five noms came for Best TV Series – Drama, in 2012, 2015 and 2016-2018. Harington had been nominated tonight the first time.
Its only win? Peter Dinklage won a supporting Globe in 2012.
While not apples to apples, by comparison Game of Thrones won a total of 59 Emmys among a record 160 nominations, and 10 wins for its eighth and final season including Best Drama Series for a fourth time.

As far as the Golden Globes are concerned, winter continues for “Game of Thrones.”
The HBO behemoth walked away empty-handed from Sunday night’s telecast after a final season that was not well received by either critics or viewers.
The result isn’t entirely surprising given that the show previously won only a single Golden Globe, and its only nomination this year was for Kit Harington in the best actor in a drama series category. Harington, who played the character of Jon Snow, lost out to Brian Cox of “Succession.” Others in the category were Rami Malek (“Mr. Robot”), Tobias Menzies (“The Crown”) and Billy Porter (“Pose”).
That solitary Globes triumph for “Game of Thrones” came in 2012 when Peter Dinklage, who played fan-favorite character Tyrion Lannister on the show, picked up a gong for supporting actor in a series, miniseries or motion picture made for television. Dinklage’s on-camera sister...

Kit Harington was admittedly feeling a little lonely without the majority of his Game of Thrones cast at the 2020 Golden Globes. "I'm a little jealous of the Succession dudes," the actor joked in a red carpet E! interview. The celebrated series famously did not receive any nominations for its final season, with the exception of Kit, whose portrayal of Jon Snow earned him his first best actor nod.
When asked if he misses his Game of Thrones character, Kit said, "I think about him all the time." He added, "I loved it, but it's in retrospect that you start loving it. You moan about it a lot at the time."
While other Game of Thrones stars like Emilia Clarke, Gwendoline Christie, and Peter Dinklage were notably missing, Kit was joined by one very important costar: his wife, Rose Leslie. The couple, who was spotted attending a charity event in London just before the holidays,...

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a Game of Thrones fan.
Full of drama, action, noteworthy betrayals, epic monologues, and its own language, Game of Thrones, adapted by HBO from the book series by George R.R. Martin, quickly stole the hearts of millions of people around the world.
In spite of a disappointing season finale episode, until recently, I would have argued that Game of Thrones was the best show of the last decade.
Then I found Watchmen.
For starters, the female characters in Watchmen were refreshing contrats to the "damsel in distress" or "sidekick" roles historically played by females on screen.
Both the show's heroine and the show's formidable villain Lady Trieu were strong female characters throughout the series.
While Game of Thrones had its share of strong female characters, most of them suffered confusing character shifts by the end of the series.

“Game of Thrones” ended its eight-season run on HBO with another 12 Emmys this past fall, including a record-tying fourth victory for Best Drama Series. But the Golden Globes have never been that into the show. However, despite that bias, Kit Harington made the cut for Best TV Drama Actor for the first time. Can he win? One of our Top 24 Users thinks so.

Shortly after HBO released Game of Thrones: The Complete Eighth Season, the Golden Globe nominations were unveiled and its considered a surprise that the series was virtually shut out. After the long wait, the truncated final season arrived this year and rather than take a victory lap, it was showered with complaints.
When the series, adapting George R.R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire novels, arrived, people were stunned at its scope, sweep, violence, sensuality, and strong performances. You weren’t sure who to root for as the status quo kept shifting and beloved characters kept dying in unexpected, messy ways.
Phrases and names seeped into public consciousness just as the series began exhausting the extant prose and then charged ahead while Martin struggled to finish the current novel, in the cycle. Series Executive Producers/Writers/Directors David Benioff & D.B. Weiss got direction from Martin and then increasingly veered off in their own direction.

If Game of Thrones characters ever dated I think the Seven Kingdoms would be looking a lot worse than they are now, or maybe they’d be just the same. From their dating profiles you get the feeling that each one of them is looking for something they aren’t too likely to find and even if they did it wouldn’t end well, as it never does. It’s even funnier since they’ve used characters on here that were hooked up with each other at one point. For instance Ygritte doesn’t like kneelers and yet she went with Jon Snow and became his

Captured on location in Dubrovnik, Croatia (h/t Digital Spy), these intriguing (and potentially spoiler-sensitive!) pics find Jon Snow meeting with Cersei Lannister, Lena Headey’s crooked, conniving Queen Mother who was last seen plotting a major betrayal in Game of Thrones season 7. Chances are Jon Snow (real name: Aegon Targaryen) is about to confront Cersei and make her see reason or, in the more unlikely scenario,...

Yes, fam, the eighth season of Game of Thrones is coming, and though the actual season won't be on your TV until 2019, you can see Jon Snow, aka Kit Harington, filming scenes for the epic final season. Harington is in Croatia, meaning he's still chilling in King's Landing after his roll in the hay/boat with Daenerys and their ill-fated "negotiation" with Cersei. These are some of the first pictures, and here is one other obvious thing: Jon Snow is still alive! Hey, that means something when we once spent a whole year between seasons wondering this very thing. The King in the North clearly still has business in the seat of the crown, but we're wondering exactly what he's doing at the Red Keep. Harington also managed to have a break while filming in the old town of Dubrovnik, puffing on a cigarette and chugging between scenes. Kings! They're just like us.

HBO’s Song of Ice and Fire is nearing its crescendo, that much we know, but with only six episodes remaining, viewers are beginning to wonder how exactly David Benioff and D.B. Weiss (Star Wars) plan to bring an end to their celebrated Game of Thrones saga.
There’s a Night King on the march, after all, and his undead army (and reanimated, blue-eyed dragon!) will be causing all sorts of headaches for Westerosi people come 2019. Perhaps we’ll see one or two characters brought back as Wights? Who knows.
What we do know, however, is that Jon Snow Aegon Targaryen and his long-lost aunt, Daenerys, have joined forces, and are currently headed to Winterfell in order to defend the Stark stronghold from invading forces. Last we checked in on Game of Thrones, they left King’s Landing on the belief that Cersei Lannister, Lena Headey’s crooked, conniving Queen Mother,...

The actress, who stars in CBS’s The Good Fight, covers the February issue of Town & Country magazine, on newsstands now. In the interview, she opens up about her upcoming nuptials to former Game of Thrones costar Kit Harington.
Joking about hectic filming schedule, she says, “I’m trying to fit in my wedding.”

Winter will have to wait a little longer.
HBO has confirmed that Game of Thrones Season 8 will not bow on the network until 2019.
That means fans have to endure all of 2018 before getting to find out how the smash hit drama concludes.
At this rate, we will probably get to read George R.R. Martin's next installment in the A Song of Ice and Fire book series which the series is based on before the TV series returns.
The 2019 start date is not surprising when you consider the fact that cast members have been speaking about the show as though it's sitting all of 2018 out.
Given that Season 8 will mark the end of the line for the characters as they engage in one last battle against the Night King, the anticipation is at an all-time high.

With the news this week that the eighth and final season of HBO’s Game of Thrones won’t air until 2019 comes just as Games of Thrones: The Complete Seventh Season arrives on disc tomorrow. The digital editions have been out for some time and if any season bears repeat watching it is this one.
One advantage to the bloodshed and character demises over the last few seasons has meant that the survivors all get larger roles, meatier scenes, and characters we’ve longed to see together actually share the screen. The episodes are longer, but there are fewer of them to enjoy. Perhaps the biggest downside to this is that events have had to be telescoped, stretching and then breaking the show’s internal logic.
No matter how the producers spin it, there was really no way for episode six to work once the White Walkers surrounded our hardy band of warriors.
