An all-star team of developers have joined forces to create the ultimate System Shock experience...
System Shock 3 is officially a go as OtherSide Entertainment has revealed that development has begun on this highly-anticipated sequel.
Even better, OtherSide Entertainment confirmed that Warren Spector (producer of the original System Shock, creator of Deus Ex, and all-around gaming genius) will be leading System Shock 3's development team. That team also includes tech director Jason Hughes (Wing Commander and Epic Mickey), design director Sheldon Pacotti (lead writer of the first two Deus Ex games), Art Director Arturo Pulecio (Dark Age of Camelot, Epic Mickey, Dungeons and Dragons Online), and a host of developers who worked on the original System Shock that include Creative Director Paul Neurathm and Lead Designer Tim Stellmach.
To put it another way, OtherSide Entertainment has assembled a bonafide all-star team of gaming experts and series veterans to...

The first in-game footage of Night Dive Studios’ System Shock remaster has been released, and it’s looking fantastic. Night Dive says the footage was captured with a pre-alpha version of the engine, but it looks no less polished because of it.
The video (above) is only a few minutes long, but shows off a completely re-textured and visually updated world, including enemy, character and weapon models. Look closely and you can even see a few seconds of basic combat, i.e. swinging a lead pipe at one of the many mutants being controlled by the malevolent artificial intelligence Shodan.
Among the many primary aims of the remaster, Night Dave says one of the most important is to “keep the new game true to the classic experience” but modernize it with more contemporary control schemes and user interfaces.
So far, the remaster is due to release on PC and Xbox...

As Lost Planet 3 evokes memories of James Cameron's Aliens, Ryan wonders whether games will always be heavily influenced by movies...
If George Lucas hadn't made Star Wars, Tomohiro Nishikado's Space Invaders would probably have been a very different game. Part of that legendary 1978 coin-swallower's creation myth is that, when Nishikado was still in the early stages of designing what would become Space Invaders, he'd initially cast tanks, planes or even cowboys in the role of the enemies at the top of the screen, before the global success of Star Wars prompted him to design some crab-like alien invaders to shoot at instead.
Space Invaders was but one early example of videogames taking influence from movies, and the two have been inextricably intertwined ever since. In the console explosion of the late 70s and early 1980s, we saw the first games based directly...

After buying Lucasfilm 154 days ago, Disney has closed LucasArts, laying off 150 employees. This is on the heels of cancelling The Clone Wars animated TV series on Cartoon Network and laying off animators at Lucasfilm. This means we will not be seeing the darker and edgier next-gen shooter game, Star Wars 1313, featuring higher quality performance-captured animation from Lucasfilm Animation and VFX from Industrial Light & Magic. “After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” according to a LucasArts statement. “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization.” The move is consistent with Disney cancelling internally-developed console game from Warren Spector’s Junction Point after the release of Epic Mickey 2.Read the rest of this article here.

Eidos Montreal's stealth 'em up, Thief: Out of the Shadows, has a trailer, and here it be...
The Thief series is one of the most critically-acclaimed of the stealth genre, even though sales-wise, it's never really been a huge success. Making its debut on the PC in 1998 with Thief: The Dark Project, the series continued with the excellent Thief II: The Metal Age, and Thief: Deadly Shadows.
The latter of the trio was released on PC and console, and was developed by none other than Warren Spector's now defunct Ion Storm, but despite the third game being an excellent release it's the second game in the series that most fans consider the best.
Thief II: The Metal Age hit all the right notes, with often sprawling, open missions (something lost in the third game), a distinctly odd steampunk-infused Gothic world, and some of...

Earlier this morning, Good Old Games and Night Dive Studios confirmed, speaking to Rock, Paper, Shotgun, that they are bringing “System Shock 2” to the digital distribution service. While there are no pricing details available, the seminal space-horror action game will hit the deck on February 14 -- for those keeping up at home, that’s tomorrow.
Night Dive Studios boss Stephen Kick, who procured the distribution license for “System Shock 2,” is calling this version a “virtual collector’s edition”: the Gog download comes with the soundtrack, an interview with lead designer Ken Levine, concept art, the first pitch document, and a map of the Von Braun, the experimental spaceship (housing a megalomaniacal AI) on which “System Shock 2” takes place.

At 57.33 years old, according to him, Warren Spector has seen a lot of chaos in 35 years of video game development, which is was seeking to impart on some of the younger developers at D.I.C.E. Although on looking around when taking the stage, he wondered if he wasn’t seeing them because “they couldn’t afford to come out here.”
But before he began the core of his discussion, he addressed the elephant in the room to a degree. “As many of you may have heard, my studio Junction Point is not around any longer.” He didn’t use this opportunity to lambast Disney, but instead said that he was proud to work with a great team of people, and to be able to visit Disneyland and Walt Disney World as a contributor and not just a spectator, which is the amount of gracious commentary...

Today’s Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two developer diary focuses in on the work that went into giving the game’s characters purpose.
As you’ll surely note, a few of the featured digital inhabitants are, in fact, iconic Disney characters, but that didn’t stop Warren Spector and company from giving them unique abilities. Mickey has his all-important magical paintbrush, which lets him alter the world through the use of both paint and thinner, while Oswald can now fly through the air like Sonic’s pal Tails. On top of that, the lucky rabbit can use electricity to affect the world’s features, as well as its enemies.
Later on, talk shifts to the supporting cast, and there’s some interesting information to discover there. At that time, you’ll find out more about some of the game’s supporting characters and their relationship to its main duo.

Unlike its predecessor, Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two will not be a Wii exclusive. Instead, the paint-filled sequel will be released for all three of today’s television-based machines, in addition to both Windows PC and Mac Os X. What that means is that the accessible experience will be available to a much larger audience than Warren Spector’s first jaunt through the iconic character’s world.
However, there’s a downside to this plan, because a large portion of the gaming community never bought into the Wii, and decided to go with at least one of its high-definition opponents instead.
In order to make sure that those who don’t own a Nintendo Wii can still enter into Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two without feeling lost, Junction Point Studios has released an introductory cutscene that summarizes the first game’s plot as well as the events that followed.

Things certainly are changing for Epic Mickey 2. The inclusion of voice overs, a supposedly revamped camera and even musical segments? It’s enough for an old Disney lover like me to cry pure nostalgia. Luckily, something else changing is the amount of consoles the game is coming to.
The first game was only available on the Wii. The second, coming out later this year, will be made available for Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, a blast-from-the-past 3Ds version, and confirmed by gaming industry legend Warren Spector himself at Comic Con this week, a version will also be heading to PC and Mac day and date as the other platforms.
Which means you literally have no excuse to not pick up a sequel to one of 2010′s greatest games. Unless of course you only own a Vita. Then you’re outta luck. Sorry.

Looks like the Hit Monkey reveal was Marvel, High Moon Studios, and Activision punking us.
Find out what the comic company has planned through 2012 and beyond in this recap of the Sdcc panel.
The panel, from the Marvel Games group, was something of a celebration of the 30th anniverary of Marvel Comics in video games, going all the way back to The Amazing Spider-Man for the Atari 2600.
The big reveal: the mouthy Marvel assassin with a heart of gold (kind of) and emotional/mental problems (really) is getting a game from the Fall of Cybertron studio in 2013.
The trailer showed a bit of the third-person shooting and swordplay action. While the rating's pending, this one will probably be unedited.
One of the other big announcements was the addition of new characters and costumes to the Facebook game, Marvel: Avengers Alliance, including characters and costumes from the big summer comic event,...

"Your play style is really, really going to matter." This from Warren Spector, who's been shepherding the sequel to consoles for its release this winter.
The last couple of months have kind of been a second coming out party for Epic Mickey. Spector, gaming legend and VP of Junction Point Studios, acknowledged that the audience for the Wii exclusive first game wasn't exactly large--that's why the Junction Point team created the newly-released intro video that elaborates on the story of the first game while setting up the second, which is coming to the PS3, 360, and Wii.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.

Scott Moffit, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo too the stage to talk about some of the first and third-party offerings on the way to the 3Ds over the next few months. The first title up was Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate. The game is being developed by Spanish studio MercurySteam. After playing the trailer for the middle chapter in the Lords of Shadow saga, we got to see a bit of gameplay as Trevor Belmont used his whip chain to dispatch some new enemies in the cursed castle.
Besides his primary weapon, Trevor also has secondary weapons like his boomerang which sticks into enemies and does damage. As with Castlevania games of the past, you can restock your secondary weapon by earning hearts...

Disney Interactive has announced the launch date for Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, and you want to mark your calenders for November 18th. The sequel to the game that took the world by storm also has a great E3 trailer you can catch below, as well as a Bts trailer that’s worth a look.
It’s something of a surprise that I’m so taken by either of these games, but the first one was addictive, and just plain loads of fun. The new one looks like it’s going to take things up a couple of notches, and that’s pretty impressive.
This time around you’ll get Oswald the Lucky Rabbit as a true partner, and you’ll explore a full world bursting with forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions.
Read the full press release below, and then take a look at the trailers.

Epic Mickey may have been a flawed game, but it was still one of the most interesting releases in the last few years, if only because Disney allowed Warren Spector and his team at Junction Point to play fast and loose with the empire's canon. They redesigned Mickey into a new retro form that was scrappier and more ratlike than his cheery modern doppleganger, and more importantly, the game represented the first time Mickey and his forbear, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, had been united.
This time out, they're taking further liberties by giving Oswald a voice for the first time in a Disney project (he'd previously been voice by numerous voice actors at Universal, including Mickey Rooney). Unlike Epic Mickey, this sequel will feature a fully voiced cast, which will come in handy as the whole thing's set to be a musical.

The first Disney Epic Mickey game, released in 2010 on the Nintendo Wii, was a witty, inventive action-adventure platformer that was held back by a few blemishes. Now here’s Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two, and in an exclusive behind-the-scenes video, the developers at Junction Point Studios don’t shy away from addressing those prior complaints.

Epic Mickey 3 was planned alongside the first and second instalments, it has been revealed. Designer Warren Spector discussed his reasons for wanting a second Epic Mickey, saying that he plans all his projects as three games, each introducing their own stories and mechanics. "I assume every game developer has a process they go through when they start a new project, and mine involves a couple of things," he told Digital Spy. "One is [that] there are seven questions I ask myself and if I can't answer them I don't do it, and that's posted on my blog if you're curious. But the other is, I always plan out at least three games. "I plan out a three-game story arc, and I plan out a three-game, sort of, gameplay arc, what am I going to introduce in each game. I don't do that because I actually expect to do those games, I...

Disney UK today announced the development of Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, the first Nintendo 3Ds title in the Disney Epic Mickey franchise. The title features an interactive combination of painting, dual screen integration and 3D transformation capabilities designed to give players the unique ability to create objects and even characters they can place in the world of Wasteland.
Paying tribute to the classic Sega Megadrive game Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Disney Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion focuses on the fabled Castle of Illusion, which has fallen into Wasteland, an alternate world filled with 80 years of forgotten Disney characters and theme park attractions – and now forgotten video games. The evil witch Mizrabel, villainess from the classic “Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse,” finds herself an unwilling inhabitant of Wasteland, and unleashes a plot to escape using the Castle of Illusion to imprison and drain the cartoon essence from currently famous Toons.

Epic Mickey took off like a shot, and found itself a favorite among gamers young and old, and gamers who aren’t even remotely gamers. Building in fun, and really taking a whole new approach to games that can suck players in, whoever they are, the game was elevated to classic status almost instantly.
Well, if you couldn’t get enough, your wait is almost over. Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two is on the way, and it looks to be better than ever, with Warren Spector at the helm, and moving forward with the possibilities.
It’s tricky to imagine where this will go, with the way people fell in love with the first game, but if you played the original, you know that those behind these titles are in love with them as well. See below for all the info, some cool screenshots and other images, and a trailer.

Los Angeles — One of Walt Disney's oldest drawings is seeing the light of day after being locked away for nearly 40 years.
A rough 1928 image of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, the wacky predecessor to Mickey Mouse, was brought out of the Walt Disney Co. archive this week and showcased at an event unveiling "Disney Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two," an upcoming action-adventure game for the Wii, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 that allows players to control both Mickey and Oswald.
The mischievous Oswald was co-created by Disney before Mickey, but he was lost in a 1928 contract dispute with Universal Studios. Oswald hopped back to Disney in 2006 when CEO Bob Iger brokered a deal that sent sportscaster Al Michaels to Universal-nbc. Oswald's first appearance since his return came in 2010's "Epic Mickey" as the ruler of a forgotten realm.

After much speculation dating all the way back to last year, Disney have finally confirmed that a sequel is in the works to 2010′s Epic Mickey. Originally released exclusively for the Nintendo Wii, the paintbrush wielding platformer had players controlling the iconic Mickey Mouse through a dark alternate Disneyland inhabited by forgotten characters. The upcoming sequel – titled Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two – will launch not only on the Wii, but also make its series debut on the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Despite the fact that Epic Mickey was a charming experience – boasting a lavish art style and loving references to Disney’s silent-era cartoons – it left many critics ranting over its erratic camera issues and unfocused mission structure. With the follow up, lead-designer Warren Spector has promised to have these issued fixed in the sequel.

A dynamic soundtrack and improved camera are a couple of the items on the agenda for the sequel to 2010's "Epic Mickey."
The Washington Post has a brief chat with Gdc Lifetime Achievement Award winner Warren Spector about the sequel to his passion Disney project, Epic Mickey.
One of the key takeaways is that developer Junction Point is aware that the camera in the first game presented its own challenge for players and that they've spent the last two years working out some of the kinks "from the day we finished the first game" according to Spector. Junction Point's goal is to provide players with a camera that doesn't once require them to take manual control.
Camera fixes aside, the sequel will be returning to the dark side Disneyland, the Wasteland which has been devastated by natural disasters since the last game. Spector didn't elaborate on the story but did...

As an increasingly old and, as some would have it, bitter man, I’ve recently begun to cast my resentful mind back on the many trials that afflicted the 90s gamer which today’s youth would doubtless fail to grasp. I’m not talking about the obvious here: graphics have gotten far better and we didn’t have touch screens on our Sega Mega Drives. Instead the list below gathers together some odd things even those who lived at the time may have relegated to the limits of their subconscious and one you may never have heard of (though I’m certain I haven’t made it up). Quirks, practices and technological limitations that your grandchildren, dear reader, will scarcely be able to believe afflicted you: the greatest generation.

"DuckTales." Who doesn't love that series? It stars Donald Duck's irascible, penny-pinching Uncle Scrooge McDuck, who swims around in his towering vault filled with money. It was also the subject of a '90s TV cartoon series and a pair of excellent Nes games. And now it's going to be featured in a new comic book series from Boom! Studios penned by "Epic Mickey" and "Deus Ex" designer, Warren Spector.
Spector's run of "DuckTales" comics kicks off in May with art from Miquel Pujol. The first issue will be released with two covers, featuring art from Leonel Castellani and James Silvani. Boom! also recently launched a line of "Darkwing Duck" comics (basically a duck-billed Batman) as part of its Disney Afternoon Revolution. "DuckTales" is similarly part of the Revolution, and it will be set in the same universe as "Darkwing."
The big news here for we gamers is Spector's involvement.
