Iman Vellani is one of the best things to happen to the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Robert Downey Jr. was cast as Iron Man. Not only is she perfect as Kamala Khan, the best part of "The Marvels," but she is also a star both on and off the screen. Just as Downey Jr. embodied Tony Stark so much that the comic book version of the character noticeably changed to resemble his portrayal, Vellani embodies Kamala to the point of making the character forever associated with her.
Likewise, Vellani is very much in tune with what the MCU is doing right, and what it should be doing better, as well as a huge comic book nerd. Take her response in a Reddit Ama (Ask Me Anything) session to being asked what "Ms. Marvel" scene was the hardest to film due to her laughing so much.
"The M word scene," Vellani answered.

Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman are no strangers to committing to the bit. Poehler shared that she and Offerman used to make out while filming Parks and Recreation in an attempt to get the moment into the show’s blooper reel.
“Nick and I used to do a thing every year for the blooper reel where we would end a scene by making out, and the crew would hate it,” Poehler told The Independent UK in an oral history celebrating the 15th anniversary of NBC’s beloved sitcom. “Everybody hated it, and it really made us laugh.”
Poehler played Leslie Knope, the deputy director of the (fictional) Pawnee, Indiana, Parks and Recreation Department. Her forever upbeat optimism was balanced by Nick Offerman’s Ron Swanson, a cynical libertarian working as the director of Parks and Rec.
“It was like watching your aunt and uncle making out or something,” Poehler continued...

It's been 15 years since Parks and Recreation introduced us to the crazy characters of Pawnee, Indiana.
It's a show that feels like it's always been around -- a pop culture mainstay -- and yet it's only been 15 years.
After a bumpy start with an awkward first season, Parks & Rec became one of the greatest comedies on television.
It gave us everything: characters we couldn't help loving (or hating), romances that warmed our hearts, and a satisfying conclusion that gave us a glimpse into where all our favorites ended up.
One thing that sets Parks & Rec apart from many of its contemporaries is its focus on platonic relationships.
Sure, there were some great romantic relationships. Leslie and Ben showed us what true love looks like, April and Andy gave us the weird combo we didn't know we needed, and Ron and Tammy 2 taught us that even the most level-headed...

Buckle up, Parks & Rec fans, because this one is going to feel personal.
This week, Parks & Recreation celebrates 15 years since its premiere. It's a monumental anniversary, especially for a show that is still beloved by fans around the world.
For fifteen years, Leslie Knope has been high on the list of the best characters of all time. With a heart of gold, ambition for days, and an unmatched love for her community, Leslie captured our affections from the very first episode.
The Leslie Knope of 2009 was a passionate and tenacious go-getter who fiercely loved her friends, her neighbors, and her job. When we watch the show back, we still see her passion and tenacity.
But did she and her fellow Parks employees have flaws that we overlooked because fifteen years ago, we didn't know any better? How well does the show hold up today when viewed through a modern lens?...

“Parks and Recreation” debuted April 9, 2009, just three months after Barack Obama’s inauguration. A perfect alignment, one might think, considering how much the NBC sitcom embodied the 44’s “Yes we can” spirit. However, the tone of its much-neglected, much-derided first season was more akin to the Bush era: cynical, polarizing, and slightly clueless.
Subsequently, its opening six episodes have largely been consigned to history: the general advice to newcomers is skip them entirely and start with the sunnier second season. But while the show undoubtedly benefited from its course correction, its initial glimpse into the fictional Pawnee’s madcap P&r department isn’t the disaster often purported.
Much of the criticism inevitably focused on its similarities to “The Office.” The show was conceived as a spin-off from the corporate satire after all, and shares a creator (Greg Daniels), cast member (Rashida Jones), and mockumentary format. Its premiere was even...

Leslie Knope & Michael Scott: How Two Very Different Bosses Set the Tone of Their Respective Sitcoms
It's been 15 years this month since Parks & Rec began dazzling us with its relatable humor and made the cast household names.
With our multiple-article celebration, we'll look at several aspects of the beloved sitcom, including how closely it related to its partner, The Office, despite having two distinct perspectives.
The Office and Parks and Recreation often run together in the minds of sitcom fans of a particular era. Both shows aired on NBC and overlapped for many of the same years.
Both were in the mockumentary genre, and both shows achieved popularity and award attention. Both had a second life in the early days of binge-streaming when new audiences discovered them.
Both were set in workplaces, and both were put in a smallish city in which the universe of characters sprawled continuously over the run of the show.

It has been nearly 10 years since Parks and Recreation (Parks and Rec. for short) closed up shop on its seven-season run. Despite an absence of almost a decade, the beloved NBC sitcom has remained prevalent in the pop culture sphere, garnering a massive following through streaming outlets such as Netflix and Peacock. And as with any top-rated show, the arrival of cool merch was inevitable, yielding dozens of fabulous Parks and Rec. products for hardcore collectors to get their hands on.
One of the first companies to jump on the opportunity of Parks and Rec. merchandise was Funko, the creator of the ubiquitous Pop! line of vinyl figures. Funko has produced a multitude of Parks and Rec. figures of characters from all across Pawnee, including icons such as Leslie Knope and Ron Swanson, to very specific alter egos like Burt Macklin. Hot off his first Emmy win, Nick Offerman will pop up on The Conners when the ABC sitcom returns for Season 6 on February 7. Offerman appears to be playing an author, judging by the book Jay R. Ferguson’s Ben Olinsky holds in a new Season 6 teaser shared by TVLine. “Are you family?” Offerman’s character asks John Goodman’s Dan Conner later in that promo. “I’ve never seen these people before in me life,” Dan responds, faking a Cockney accent, as Katey Sagal’s Louise looks on uneasily. Offerman is best known for playing grumpy government employee Ron Swanson on Parks and Recreation. Since the 2015 finale of that NBC comedy, the actor has starred in the TV shows Devs, Pam & Tommy, and The Resort. Offerman won an Emmy Award this month for his guest-starring part in The Last of Us’ debut season. In his Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series acceptance speech,...

It is a cruel, unfair twist of fate that we lost the amazing and talented Andre Braugher this week at the age of 61. Though Braugher appeared in notable film roles over the course of a handful of decades, like his debut role of Corporal Thomas Searles in Edward Zwick's "Glory," Brent Norton in Frank Darabont's adaptation of "The Mist," and real-life journalist and editor Dean Baquet in the recent "She Said," he was best known on the small screen for primarily playing men of authority, like his Emmy-winning turn as Detective Frank Pembleton of the Baltimore Pd on "Homicide: Life on the Street." For many viewers, Braugher is best known for playing another commanding cop, Captain Raymond Holt of the NYPD in the brilliantly silly eight-season sitcom "Brooklyn Nine-Nine." Both when it aired initially, and through binge-rewatches, it's clear that Braugher successfully balanced the serious and the loopy in his performance as Holt,...

The existence and success of 2018’s Venom movie is rather fascinating because of how far the movie goes out of its way to keep its distance from Spider-Man. At no point is the wallcrawler brought up and they don’t even hint at the idea of a crossover until the post-credits of the sequel. Elsewhere, Venom is constantly attached to Spider-Man, whether it’s in terms of origin, identity, or simply as a Marvel Comics property. Venom’s main hosts have included a disgraced reporter who hated Spider-Man, a B-list Spider-Man villain with a new coat of paint, and a former school bully who idolized Spider-Man and was unknowingly one of his best friends.
Similarly, Venom has never been able to stand on his own in video games. At most, he gets top billing in a Spider-Man team-up game. Even now, we’re bringing up Venom because he is a...

That sound you heard on Emmy nominations morning was the “Parks and Recreation” group chat blowing up. Three of the cult TV comedy’s cast members were nominated at the 2023 Emmys, making this year’s ceremony a full-on “Parks & Rec” reunion. Amy Poehler is cited for her work hosting the reality show “Baking It” (alongside Maya Rudolph), Aubrey Plaza is up for her supporting role on “The White Lotus,” and Nick Offerman is nominated for his guest stint on “The Last of Us.”
For those keeping track at home, only Poehler earned Emmy love back in the “Parks & Rec” days, which aired between 2009 and 2015 on NBC. She received six consecutive Best Comedy Actress bids (2010-2015) for her role as Leslie Knope, the overachieving department head in Pawnee, Indiana. Pawnee has taken on Hollywood, as cast members of Parks and Recreation teamed up to join the picket line amid the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. L’il Sebastian even helped the Parks and Rec team say (K)nope to the AMPTP!
Major Parks and Rec cast members included Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt), Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson), Aubrey Plaza (April Ludgate), Jim O’Heir (Jerry/Garry Gergich), Retta (Donna Meagle), and Ben Schwartz (Jean-Ralphio Saperstein), while those that played smaller characters – Alison Becker (Shauna Malwae-Tweep), Colton Dunn (Brett), Kirk Fox (Sewage Joe), Joe Mande (Morris Lerpiss), Susan Yeagley (Jessica Wicks), and Allan McLeod (Trodd Frankensteip) also turned up. Even Sam Elliott, who turned 79 just a couple days before and played Ron Swanson’s Eagleton rival in three episodes, made an appearance. Schwartz shared a few photos on social media:

As part of the SAG-AFTRA strike against the AMPTP, cast members from Parks and Recreation reunited on the picket line outside the Amazon Studios offices in Culver City, California, on Friday. Representing the 2010s-era NBC workplace sitcom at the protest were series regulars Aubrey Plaza(April Ludgate), Adam Scott (Ben Wyatt), Nick Offerman (Ron Swanson), Retta (Donna Meagle), Jim O’Heir (Jerry Gergich). Plaza and Retta both carried picket signs referencing Parks and Rec storylines. Plaza’s read, “Ann Perkins works for the AMPTP,” a nod to April’s frenemy on the show, played by Rashida Jones. Retta’s sign, meanwhile, read, “I sold that little red thing for health insurance,” referencing a slinky outfit Donna mentions on the show. #Wgastrong pic.twitter.com/Vc2MmpzX0w — WGA Board Candidate Jonterri Gadson (@JaytotheTee) August 11, 2023 Joining those cast members on the picket line were various guest stars from Parks and Rec...

There's a scene in "22 Jump Street" where the blundering cops Greg Jenko (Channing Tatum) and Morton Schmidt (Jonah Hill) meet with their boss, Deputy Chief Hardy (Nick Offerman), to explain their latest bungled investigation. Informing them he's putting them back in the rebooted undercover Jump Street program, Hardy comments on the shocking success of the revived police operation, which has recently seen its budget doubled. "As if spending twice the money guaranteed twice the profit," he chuckles.

Fans of “Parks and Recreation” know a thing or two about patience. For seven seasons, they waited for the Emmy Awards to nominate supporting players Aubrey Plaza and Nick Offerman for their stand-out roles of April Ludgate and Ron Swanson, respectively. Meanwhile, Plaza and Offerman were forced to endure years of countless “snubs” lists.

The Office is a revolutionary comedy that created a new model for how modern sitcoms could be done. Its mockumentary format had been done before, but it was perfected here, and many shows after tried to put their spin on its style. While many have failed to capture what made The Office great, a few mockumentary comedies have paved their own path without seeming like a knockoff.

Reno 911! premiered before The Office, but it is a different type of mockumentary comedy. The show is a parody of cop documentary TV shows, specifically Cops, and follows the Reno sheriff’s department members in Nevada. It’s much cruder than The Office and contains profane and often politically incorrect humor.

Nick Offerman has been on everyone’s lips ever since audiences discovered his performance in “The Last of Us” episode three, “Long, Long Time.” His sensitive portrayal of a love story after the fall of humanity immediately launched him into the Emmy race for Best Drama Guest Actor. His wife, two-time Emmy winner Megan Mullally (“Will and Grace”) recently told The Wrap that just like millions of HBO viewers, she also expects her husband to finally score a nomination. Watch below.
At the premiere party for season three of her series “Party Down,” Mullally admitted she has a new pet name for her spouse ever since his “Last of Us” episode aired. “He’s gotten so much acclaim for it … so I just started calling him ‘Episode Three’ around the house,” she said with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘Episode Three are you upstairs?’”

If you've been paying attention to Nick Offerman at all, you know he's the kind of actor that brings a little piece of himself to every character he plays. In real life he's more progressive than, say, Ron Swanson from "Parks and Recreation" or Bill from "The Last of Us," but that stoic man's man Mr. Fix-It quality that both of those characters have does parallel Offerman in real life.
In fact, Ron Swanson's love of woodworking comes directly from Offerman's own hobby. The man has written books about woodworking and has notoriously used his talents to make wrap gifts for his co-stars, like the canoe paddles he crafted for his "Parks and Rec" cast members using the discarded materials from the actual sets. The point is, Offerman is a handy guy to have around and it should come as no surprise that he brought some of those skills to...

Ben Shapiro has once again been met with ridicule, this time over his criticism ofThe Last of Us.
The American conservative commentator has given his verdict on the acclaimed HBO series, which is an adaptation of Neil Druckmann’s video game.
While the first two episodes were praised for their depiction of the post-apocalyptic world, it was episode three that drew particular acclaim for zoning in on the story of two men – Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) who meet and find love following the fall of civilisation.
What did Ben Shapiro say about The Last of Us?
Shapiro, 39, disliked the episode. His complaint was that “the entire episode has no zombies” and that there was “no real threat”.
He wrote on Facebook: “It is about two gay dudes who meet and have a relationship in which one grows strawberries for the other, and then they die by not being killed by zombies.

Ben Shapiro hasn’t shared the sharpest commentary on “The Last of Us.”
Following the groundbreaking third episode of the viral HBO series, the conservative pundit took to Facebook (via The Independent) to share his criticisms about the “Brokeback Zombie Farm” premise.
“It is about two gay dudes who meet and have a relationship in which one grows strawberries for the other, and then they die by not being killed by zombies,” Shapiro captioned, citing the standalone episode titled “Long, Long Time” starring Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett as a couple at the start of the apocalypse.
“One gets cancer and decides to essentially euthanize himself,” Shapiro said. “And gay Ron Swanson decides that he is also going to commit suicide at the same time because of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ or ‘Romeo and Romeo’ in this particular case.”
Shapiro added, “It’s all really well produced and it’s beautifully shot.

Ben Shapiro has been ridiculed for his complaints about the lack of zombies in The Last of Us’s third episode.
HBO’s hit drama series – adapted from the popular video game of the same name – follows Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) as they make the brutal trek across a post-apocalyptic America.
In episode three of its first season, titled “Long, Long Time”, the focus shifts to a tender love story between Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Barlett). Viewers later find out their greater connection to Joel and the overall plot.
The episode has been hailed by fans for its heartwarming depiction of same-sex love, which The Independent’s Louis Chilton found to be particularly groundbreaking for the genre.
However, conservative pundit Shapiro took issue with the plotline, complaining on Facebook that “the entire episode has no zombies” and “no real threat”.

Two men meet after the collapse of society. One of them falls into a booby trap, hidden outside the wire-fenced border of the other man’s suburban ghost town. He is bedraggled, hungry. The other man shows sympathy and invites him in for a meal. There is tension in the air. The threat of violence. And yet, the opposite happens – they fall in love. For nearly two decades, these men grow old together, away from the plague that has decimated the world. Eventually, they die together.
This beautiful, heart-pinching story is the focus of “Long Long Time”, the third episode of The Last of Us. Up to this point, HBO’s post-apocalyptic video game adaptation had been a violent dystopian nightmare. There were brutal fights. Traumatic deaths. Viscerally upsetting monsters. At the heart of it were Joel (Pedro Pascal), Tess (Anna Torv) and 14-year-old Ellie (Bella Ramsey), picking their way through a ravaged society.

HBO’s “The Last of Us” continues to draw millions of viewers into its bleak, fungus-infused apocalypse. Week two of the video game adaptation saw the largest week-to-week increase in viewership in the history of this cable giant. Looking beyond any viewership metrics, though, the show’s third episode, “Long, Long Time,” has the potential to correct one of the greatest sins in awards show history: it could finally snag an acting Emmy nomination for Nick Offerman. As many reviews for HBO’s survival drama The Last of Us have said, the show’s third episode is a real showstopper –– quite literally, as the show’s cross-country journey of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) was largely put on hold while the drama took the best possible kind of detour: A surprising and heartbreaking look at the apocalypse from an different perspective.
The episode (“Long Long Time”) introduced bunker-mentality survivalist Bill (Parks and Recreation‘s Nick Offerman) and affable traveler Frank (The White Lotus‘ Murray Bartlett) who become lovers that successfully fend off the horrors of the outside world across a 20-year partnership. Eventually, Frank becomes disabled and the two commit suicide. Their journey – as showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann note in The Hollywood Reporter‘s separate interview about this episode – is arguably the happiest ending that two people could realistically experience after the world has fallen apart.

Before this week’s The Last of Us, I was unaware that I had the capability to fall in complete love with a cantankerous, virgin survivalist with an unfortunate hair and to mourn his death as though he were a member of my family — all within the space of an hour and 20 minutes. But here I am, ugly-crying over The Artist Formerly Known as Ron Swanson.

Gilmore Girls was an hour long drama, but with such witty dialogue it was equal parts comedy. That is, it was comedy for the audience. The actors still had to play it as straight drama, because it was their lives. Even the best of us break from time to time. Third time was the charm for Gilmore Girls guest star Rusty Schwimmer, after two other auditions for the show. Once she filmed, Schwimmer said there was one co-star who could make her break on the show.

Schwimmer was a guest on Scott Patterson’s I Am All In podcast on Dec. 14 to discuss her episodes of Gilmore Girls. Schwimmer played Bruce, the midwife in two episodes when Sookie (Melissa McCarthy) had her baby. There was one person in the Gilmore Girls cast who made Schwimmer ruin takes by laughing.

Dean-dong! Attention fans of Greendale Community College. After a seven-year silence, lovers of Dan Harmon's heartfelt and beautifully meta series "Community" finally got the news they'd been waiting for ever since the phrase "six seasons and a movie" was first uttered way back in the show's second season. That's right. Earlier this year, Harmon officially sent the internet into a tizzy — well, the part that was already obsessed with his flight-of-fancy-loving study group — by revealing that a "Community" movie is officially on the way.
For those unaware of why this is such a big deal, do yourself a favor and revisit the "Rick and Morty" co-creator's much-loved 2009 series. In it, he introduced us to a classic sitcom formula (six strangers are thrown together by circumstance and eventually become unlikely BFFs) before swiftly skewering this familiar format and audience expectations. Parks and Recreation, one of TV showrunner Michael Schur’s most popular works, is an awe-inspiring example of good sitcom writing. Every single character, from the overly eager Leslie Knope, to the staunchly capitalist Ron Swanson, to random Pawnee citizens, is well written and fits the entire Parks and Recreation universe perfectly. But one character from the show emerges as its most iconic: Andy Dwyer. The character, played by current Hollywood superstar Chris Pratt, made Parks and Recreation 10 times funnier. Nick Offerman is best known for his role as the overly pragmatic, staunchly libertarian director of the Pawnee Parks Department, Ron Swanson, in the hit sitcom Parks and Recreation. The series was on air for seven seasons, and while it didn’t reach The Office popularity levels, it continues to be one of the most enjoyable mockumentaries out there. Parks and Rec starred Nick Offerman alongside Amy Poehler, Chris Pratt, Adam Scott, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, Aubrey Plaza, Retta, Jim O’Heir, and Rob Lowe. Fans love Offerman’s character because of his many quotable lines. In an interview with Variety, Nick Offerman described the

Mouse Rat, the fictional band from Parks and Recreation fronted by Chris Pratt’s character Andy Dwyer, have officially released a pair of singles, “The Pit” and “Two Birds Holding Hands.”
Both songs originated in Parks and Rec episodes. “The Pit” comes from the Season One finale, and finds Andy turning his drunken, leg-breaking fall into a pit behind his then-girlfriend’s house into a grunge anthem (complete with hilariously exaggerated Eddie Vedder-style vocals). The official version of “The Pit” arrives with an animated lyric video directed by Grant Claire.

It underscores a bit of a new front breaking through the media and misinformation clutter to reach the vaccine hesitant.
