HBO’s confirmed a June 16, 2024 premiere date for House of the Dragon season two and released the first-ever “dueling” trailers. Viewers are asked to choose a side in the war between House Targaryen (#TeamBlack) and House Hightower (#TeamGreen), and then watch the trailer dedicated to their chosen allegiance.
“Westeros is on the brink of a bloody civil war with the Green and Black Councils fighting for King Aegon and Queen Rhaenyra, respectively. As each side believes theirs to be the rightful seat on the Iron Throne, the Green and Black trailers reflect those two perspectives in separate yet complementary halves of the same story,” reads HBO’s press release. “For global audiences, ‘All Must Choose’ their side of House Targaryen as the realm fractures in season two.”
New episodes of the eight-episode second season will debut on Sundays at 9pm Et/Pt.

HBO’s House of the Dragon season two teaser trailer opens with Otto Hightower admitting errors were made immediately following King Viserys’ death. The kingdom’s being torn apart by conflict between those who support the Greens and those who stand with the Blacks. And Alicent Hightower warns, “The war will be fought, many will die, and the victor will eventually ascend the throne.”
“There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin, and no war so bloody as a war between dragons,” says Rhaenys Targaryen. That pronouncement is followed by scenes of battle, and fighting between the mythological beasts.
HBO’s first look at the much-anticipated second season was accompanied by photos, two posters, and the announcement of new cast members Clinton Liberty as Addam of Hull, Jamie Kenna as Ser Alfred Broome, Kieran Bew as Hugh, Tom Bennett as Ulf, Tom Taylor as Lord Cregan Stark,...

HBO’s House of the Dragon season one wraps up as the “Dance of the Dragons” gets underway. Sides have been taken, an unforgivable blow has been struck, and Princess Rhaenyra’s supporters are set on removing the usurper, King Aegon II, from the Iron Throne. A bloody battle’s in store and plenty of favorites are sure to fall in season two – George R.R. Martin loves to kill off beloved characters – as “the blacks” (Princess Rhaenyra’s backers) and “the greens” (Queen Alicent’s people) fight to rule the Seven Kingdoms. As for me, I’m #TeamRhaenyra all the way.
The season one finale, “The Black Queen,” begins with Luke stroking “Driftmark” on the map in Dragonstone. He believes Lord Corlys is going to die and doesn’t want to inherit his throne.

The mood is somber and the halls are darkened as HBO’s House of the Dragon season one episode nine begins. There’s no one to be seen in the Red Keep until a young boy emerges from a room. He strides through the empty hallways, walks through the busy but quiet kitchen, and delivers a message to Talya.
The King is dead and the Queen is informed. She demands her handmaiden, Talya, tell no one.
Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) meets with her father, Ser Otto (Rhys Ifans), and confirms no one but a few know. She believes Viserys told her Aegon should be King, insisting those were his last words to her. Unfortunately, she was the only one in the room. (Viserys thought he was speaking with Rhaenyra.)

Fans of “House Of The Dragon” are annoyed with the frequent “time jumps” in the series. However, George Rr Martin defended screenwriter Ryan J Condal and says that both time leaps have been “handled very well.”
On his blog, Martin wrote, “…I think Ryan has handled the “jumps” very well, and I love love love both the younger Alicent (played by Emily Carey) and Rhaenyra (played by Milly Alcock) and the adult versions, and the actresses who play them..” The elder Alicent Hightower is played by Olivia Cooke, while Rhaenyra’s elder version is portrayed by Emma D’Arcy.

It’s been six years since Princess Rhaenys Targaryen last saw Lord Corlys Velaryon as HBO’s House of the Dragon season one episode eight begins. And 10 years have passed since Queen Alicent slashed Princess Rhaenyra’s arm, effectively drawing a line in blood between the greens (the Hightowers and their allies) and the blacks (the Targaryens and their supporters).
Princess Rhaenys receives the devastating news that Corlys had his throat slashed in an ambush. His ship’s maester as well as Corlys’ brother, Ser Vaemond Velaryon (Wil Johnson), are more worried about the blood fever affecting him than the wound. HBO’s House of the Dragon season one episode seven opens on Lady Laena’s funeral. But before we discuss that somber event, here’s a quick recap of the key events of episode six.
Episode six introduced the adult versions of Alicent and Rhaenyra, and the battle lines moved from being etched in pencil to drawn in ink. Prince Daemon lost his second wife, Lady Laena, who died after ordering her dragon to give her a dragonrider’s death by fire. And Larys Strong elevated his position by ordering the murder of his father and brother, effectively making himself Lord of Harrenhal while forcing Alicent to be in his debt.
And now, a recap of episode seven – “Driftmark.”
The Velaryons, Targaryens, and other key figures gather for Lady Laena’s funeral at Driftmark.

Episode 6 of House of the Dragon saw a very interesting set-up within the marriage of Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) and Ser Laenor Velaryon (John MacMillan).
This had been explored earlier in Season 1 and had Rhaenyra and Laenor agreeing to marry but to explore other partners outside of the marriage due to Laenor being gay.
Rhaenyra also pursued her own love interests and Episode 6 revealed that her three children, Jacaerys (Leo Hart), Lucerys (Harvey Sadler), and Joffrey, were actually the offspring of Ser Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr) and not Laenor.
This was kept a secret as this sort of adultery with the princess is considered treason. However, rumors were already starting to spread because the children look nothing like their pale-haired parents.

This also meant that some of the younger characters were aged up.

Alicent Hightower was also aged up, and Olivia Cooke stepped in for Emily Carey because of this.
In addition to this, the children of Alicent were also recast, with Ty Tennent portraying Aegon Targaryen and Evie Allen playing Helaena, who was only a baby in Episode 5 of House of the Dragon.
Added into the mix were several new children. So, let’s have a look at who all these kids are.

This means that viewers have to say goodbye to Milly Alcock as Princess Rhaenyra and Emily Carey as Alicent Hightower. They are replaced with Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, respectively.
Additionally, a few other characters are replaced as children age, and John MacMillan will now portray Laenor Velaryon.
It is learned that around 10 years have passed since Episode 5 aired, and the episode opens with Rhaenyra having just given birth to a boy.
Laenor is super excited that another child has been born to them, making it three in total for them so far.
While this may seem like a happy time, all of Rhaeynra’s children look nothing like her or Laenor, and now the queen wants Rhaenyra to visit her.

As previously reported by Monsters and Critics, Episode 6 of House of the Dragon will significantly age up some of its characters.
So far, the episodes leading up to Episode 6 have been a prequel to the prequel series, of sorts, giving viewers valuable backstory that detailed why there was a power struggle for the Iron Throne.
By the end of Episode 1, King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) had already broken tradition and made his daughter the heir to the Iron Throne and this already has certain players in the game scheming to make sure this doesn’t happen.
Episode 5 then saw the set-up for a feud between Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) and her stepmother, Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey), which will definitely shape what is to come.

Ever since House of the Dragon premiered on HBO, the question of who will rule after King Viserys (Paddy Considine) is gone has been pivotal to the storyline.
The king is not extremely old, but his health has been called into question more and more as Season 1 progresses. In addition to this, the king only had one child: a girl.
However, since the end of Episode 1, the king has declared that his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), will rule after him, even though the precedent had previously been set that women were not favored to rule in Westeros.
Even though the king has since sired a male heir, he still insists Rhaenyra will rule after him, and this has been causing some lowkey drama behind the scenes.

Episode 4 of House of the Dragon saw Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) reunited with his brother, King Viserys (Paddy Considine) after a very public rift that saw Daemon banished from King’s Landing.
However, by the end of the episode, Daemon had managed to canoodle with his niece, the king’s daughter, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), and the fight was on again between the brothers.
Even though it was up for debate over whether or not Daemon and Rhaenyra actually had intercourse, the rumor mill went into overdrive and Viserys banished his brother once more.
However, that wasn’t stopping Daemon from doing as he pleased and after asking Viserys for Rhaenyra’s hand in marriage — and getting rejected — he decided it was time to rid himself of his first wife in order to make it easier to marry his niece.

Episode 4 of House of the Dragon saw Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) partaking in some scandalous activity.
Some of this was uncovered by a spy for White Worm. Most notably, the fact that Rhaenyra went to a brothel with her uncle, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), and partook in some classic Targaryen behavior.
Some of it also went entirely under the radar. Like bedding Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel).
Because of the rumor mill regarding Daemon, though, Rhaenyra was forced to bend to her father’s will and is looking forward to a wedding in her near future with Laenor Velaryon (Theo Nate).
This means that in Episode 5 of House of the Dragon, the preparations for fancy royal nuptials get underway.
And we also discover that Ser Criston should really learn to shut up and listen.

HBO’s House of the Dragon season one episode five featured its own mini version of the Red Wedding. Only one person died so the bloodshed doesn’t compare to Game of Thrones’ season three episode nine, but the fates of everyone in attendance have been forever altered by the events. (Never cross Ser Criston.) Episode five also killed off a character we heard about but never got to know (Rip Lady Rhea Royce) and said goodbye to – at least for now – the ex-Hand of the King Ser Otto Hightower.
Most importantly, Queen Alicent has begun rallying those loyal to House Hightower.

Episode 4 of House of the Dragon was filled to the brim with scandal and intrigue so you may be forgiven for missing a small moment that foreshadowed a major death.
Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) was supposed to be picking out a husband in the latest installment of HBO’s epic fantasy series. However, she found fault with all of them.
Then, her uncle, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith), returned and her father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), forgave him for that dreadful remark about his dead son in the Season 1 premiere.
The pair then sneaked out of the castle and engaged in some sightseeing of King’s Landing as well as some Targaryen incest. Afterward, Rhaenyra rounded out her day by sleeping with Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel).

On the latest episode of “House of the Dragon” season 1, the “Game of Thrones” prequel got fans reacting in a big way. Audiences took to social media Sunday night to share their thoughts on what happened between two of the main characters, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and his niece, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock).
In the series, the two have been pitted against each other after Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine), had the realm pledge to honour his request that his daughter succeed him on the Iron Throne over his younger brother, Daemon.
Since then, the uncle and niece have been embroiled in a complicated relationship, fraught with lots of tension. While speaking to Et about the dynamic between the two characters, Smith said there is a “very close bond” between them. “There is something very unique about their relationship compared to anyone else. Episode 3 of House of the Dragon saw King Viserys (Paddy Considine) remarried and a royal prince being born that could usurp Princess Rhaenyra’s (Milly Alcock) stake on the Iron Throne.
And, because the princess is next in line to rule, it also means she is next in line to be married — something she is dead against.
Meanwhile, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) took the Stepstones when his brother, the king, couldn’t be bothered. Killing the Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith), he claimed victory there.
In Episode 4, Daemon returns to King’s Landing and publically gives up that crown to his brother.
This settles the rift between the pair that was torn asunder years earlier when Daemon referred to the king’s dead son as “Heir for a Day.”

Episode 3 of House of the Dragon delved further into the conflict at the Stepstones.
This conflict involving the Triarchy had been simmering away under the surface throughout all of Episode 1 of the hit epic fantasy series.
While King Viserys (Paddy Considine) seemed to hold little interest in the spat over a small stretch of land between Westeros and Essos, Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) was very worried about it.
So much so, in fact, that he went behind the king’s back and called on Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) to help him defeat the Triarchy, headed by a character called Crabfeeder (Daniel Scott-Smith).
Crabfeeder was a super creepy-looking character that seemed entirely intent on controlling the Stepstones and making it hard — and very expensive — for anyone trying to travel through the region.

Already, many viewers and critics are already deeply invested in the new TV show which is a prequel series set some 172 years prior to the events that unfolded in Game of Thrones, and this shows by how quickly the mistake was picked up.
Already, people are discussing the costuming and the general spectacle of the episodes which have a much bigger budget than Season 1 of the original show.
And then, there are the dragons. There is expected to be a total of nine dragons appearing in Season 1.
So far, only a small handful have been seen and the CGI on them has been exceptional.

Ever since House of the Dragon started, the biggest question being asked is who will rule after King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) dies.
At first, it seemed like his younger brother, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), would take his place. This was due to the set-up that showed Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) was the closest in line to succession to King Jaehaerys I, but because she was a girl, she was overlooked and Viserys was selected instead.
However, Daemon tends to fall on the side of the Targaryen coin that favors madness and violence, and when he mocked the death of Viserys’ firstborn son, he was banished back to the Vale. Viserys then named his daughter, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), as his rightful heir.

Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) was all set to become the heir apparent in Episode 1 of House of the Dragon.
Everyone assumed that because he was male, he would step in to replace his older brother, King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine), who was yet to produce a living son in his marriage to Queen Aemma (Sian Brooke).
However, after Daemon mocked the King’s only-born son, who died within the same day, he was knocked from the line of succession, and Viserys’ daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), was officially declared his heir.
In Episode 3, a slight time jump showed Viserys now married to Alicent Hightower (Emily Carey) and a son had now been produced in that union, pushing Daemon even further out of line for succession, were he still even in the running for it.

Photograph by Ollie Upton / HBO After Game of Thrones became a huge hit for HBO, it was only a matter of time before the other books in George R.R. Martin’s series were adapted as well. Episode 1 of House of the Dragon saw how the tenuous hold by King Viserys (Paddy Considine) to claim the Iron Throne was successful.
Viserys’s cousin, Rhaenys (Eve Best), was closer in line of succession, but because she was female, the majority voted to have Viserys rule after King Jaehaerys I (Michael Carter).
When Viserys failed to produce a male heir, it was assumed that his younger brother, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), would take over.
However, when conflict arose between the brothers, Viserys snubbed tradition and decided to place his daughter, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), next in line of succession.
In Episode 2 of House of the Dragon, it was revealed that Daemon was not one to step down and let his claim be overlooked and he is actively campaigning to reassert his position as heir to the Iron Throne.

In House of the Dragon, the main conflict is between members of House Targaryen. However, there is another conflict viewers should be paying close attention to.
Currently, Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) is heir to the Iron Throne after her father, King Viserys (Paddy Considine) revoked Prince Daemon’s (Matt Smith) claim.
While Daemon gathers in the background to try and reclaim his title. At the end of Episode 2, Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) decided to join sides with Daemon thanks to the king rejecting the offer of marriage to Corlys’ daughter, Laena (Nova Mosé-Foueillis).
However, there has been another storyline that is simmering away under the surface involving Corlys and will become much more significant as House of the Dragon continues.
Most notably, it involves a character called Crabfeeder and his hold on the Stepstones.

Episode 1 of HBO’s House of the Dragon opened to mostly good reviews from viewers and critics alike.
The first installment set up the premise for Season 1 that saw a tentative claim to the Iron Throne by King Viserys (Paddy Considine).
Then, when he hadn’t produced a male heir, and his brother, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith), turned out to be a right royal sod, Viserys had no choice but to declare his daughter, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), as his rightful heir.
While all the important people in the realm pledged allegiance to the king and his heir, let’s face it, all these men are not going to be happy taking orders from a woman at some point down the track so, already, we know how this is going down after the king dies.

HBO’s House of the Dragon season one episode two opens with a disturbing scene of men, presumably pirates, alive and being feasted on by crabs. Lord Corlys “The Sea Snake” Velaryon warned King Viserys and the council that the Triarchy, led by Craghas Drahar, was wreaking havoc in the Stepstones. The scene confirms the warning was correct. It also confirms that Craghas’ nickname Crabfeeder is well-earned.
Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, King Viserys (Paddy Considine) and his council learn Lord Commander Ser Ryam Redwyne of the Kingsguard has passed. Ser Harrold Westerling (Graham McTavish), the succeeding Lord Commander, wants to quickly replace Ser Ryam to return the guard to seven.
Lord Corlys (Steve Toussaint) arrives at the meeting late with news four ships, including one of his own, have been lost.

As soon as HBO announced House of the Dragon would be the first official spinoff series from Game of Thrones, fans were intrigued.
Centering around House Targaryen, the new series is also set some 172 years before what unfolded in Game of Thrones.
In the original series, the Targaryens were a dying breed, having whittled away to Aemon Targaryen (Peter Vaughan) at Castle Black, Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke), her brother, Viserys (Harry Lloyd), and Jon Snow (Kit Harington), who turned out to be a hidden Targaryen born to Ned Stark’s (Sean Bean) sister.
However, in House of the Dragon, the family is at the apex of their rule. House Targaryen is plentiful with dragons and King Viserys (Paddy Considine) is a kind ruler and not a Targaryen who has descended...

HBO’s awarded the Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, an early season two renewal order. The announcement was made less than a week after the series premiered on August 21, 2022.
The renewal came as absolutely no surprise given that the series premiere scored the biggest audience in HBO’s new original series history. More than 20 million viewers tuned in to check out this prequel set 200 years before Game of Thrones and focusing on House Targaryen (and its dragons).
The 10-episode first season airs on Sundays at 9pm Et/Pt.
The series is based on George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood novel, with Martin co-creating and serving as an executive producer. Co-creator Ryan Condal writes, executive produces and is a co-showrunner with director and executive producer Miguel Sapochnik. Sara Hess, Jocelyn Diaz, Vince Gerardis,...

According to the premium cabler’s reports, the premiere episode has now been seen by over 20 million viewers across linear, On Demand, and HBO Max platforms in the U.S. based on a combination of Nielsen and first-party data. When fans of Game of Thrones tuned into the very first episode of the spinoff series, House of the Dragon, they may have noticed one thing was missing.
Sure, the intrigue and story were set up immediately as House Targaryen was pitted against itself in the battle for the Iron Throne.
King Viserys (Paddy Considine) was initially undecided over who would rule in his place as he had not yet produced a male heir.
Most likely, it was expected his younger brother, Daemon (Matt Smith), would replace him.
However, after Daemon was particularly cruel, the king decided to announce his daughter, Princess Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), would replace him, setting up what will very likely be a bloody season.
While all of this was entertaining, many viewers wondered where the opening credits had gone.

Paddy Considine stars as King Viserys I Targaryen in Episode 1 of House of the Dragon Season 1. Pic credit: HBO/Ollie Upton
Episode 1 of House of the Dragon introduced House Targaryen as they rule supreme over Westeros.
King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) is a kind ruler, something not expected for fans of Game of Thrones where the Targaryens are considered much more ruthless and laced with madness than is shown in Viserys.
It is expected by most that the king’s brother, Daemon (Matt Smith), will rule in his place as a male heir has not been produced between Viserys and his wife, Aemma (Sian Brooke).
However, after some conflict and the fact that Daemon might actually be one of the unhinged Targaryens, Viserys places his daughter Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) next in line for the Iron Throne.
It is here that the king reveals a Targaryen secret to his daughter.

Matt Smith stars as Daemon Targaryen in Episode 1 of House of the Dragon Season 1. Pic credit: HBO/Ollie Upton
In the very first episode of House of the Dragon, viewers were introduced to Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith).
This character was expected to be the heir to the Iron Throne after King Viserys (Paddy Considine) had not yet produced a male heir. Because Daemon is Viserys’ brother, many assumed he would rule in his place.
However, after the death of the king’s newborn son, Baelon, and Daemon’s cruel comment about Baelon being an “heir for a day,” the king decided to place his only daughter, Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock), in line for succession after him.
Of course, Daemon also seems to have that trait of madness that plagues the Targaryen family, so many do not want to see him on the Iron Throne for fear that he could become a cruel leader.

[Warning: Spoilers for episode 1 of “House of the Dragon”, “Heirs of the Dragon”, written by Ryan Condal and directed by Miguel Sapochnik.]
“House of the Dragon”, the “Game of Thrones” prequel, premiered with the first episode on Sunday, bringing to life George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood. The all-new series, which takes place 200 years before the original, details the battle of succession as House Targaryen attempts to maintain its place on the Iron Throne.
Members of the ensemble cast, including Emily Carey, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Matt Smith, Milly Alcock, Paddy Considine and Steve Toussaint, recap the in-fighting in episode one and tease where things go from here, as season 1 gets deep into the political maneuvering that follows.
“It kicks off with the Old King trying to find his named heir, and the woman with the right temperament to rule the kingdom is shafted for the younger male heir,” says Olivia Cooke, who portrays an older version of Alicent Hightower.
