Summer is just around the corner, which means school is almost out — including Abbott Elementary. Although Season 3 is on the shorter side following last year’s dual Hollywood strikes, with14 episodes in total, the hit ABC sitcom has still managed to pack in plenty of fun, drama, and laughs.
This season has seen major developments for many characters, from Janine’s (Quinta Brunson) district storyline to Gregory’s (Tyler James Williams) Garden Goofballs club to Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) and Jacob (Chris Perfetti) unexpectedly becoming roommates and good friends. However, there’s one Abbott character who hasn’t gotten much time to shine lately: Ava (Janelle James).

The strike may have delayed and abbreviated the third season of Abbott Elementary but Quinta Brunson went into it feeling pretty confident that her comedy wasn’t going anywhere: she was told that ABC had picked up the series for a fourth season.
While appearing at Deadline’s Contenders TV on Sunday, Brunson — who was joined on stage by Tyler James Williams (Gregory), Chris Perfetti (Jacob) and William Stanford Davis (Mr. Johnson) — recalled how incredible it felt to know that “ABC trusted us” before they even began production on season 3.
The news of the pickup was made public in February at the Television Critics Associaton press tour.
The comedy just wrapped production last week on the third season. Brunson, who plays Janine in the comedy that she created for ABC, said she still marvels at how far her Emmy-winning comedy has come.

Abbott Elementary is returning for a fourth season, and we're busting out the Gritty merch to celebrate.
But will next season be the last one for Quinta Brunson's breakout hit, or can we expect to see our favorite Philly teachers for years to come?
In a recent interview with Elle, Brunson provided some insight into her plans for the smash hit sitcom.
Brunson, an Emmy winner with a long list of accolades (including being the first Black woman to receive three comedy Emmy nominations), is a Philadelphia native who developed Abbott Elementary as a love letter to her city.
Raised in Philadelphia public schools, Brunson also had the benefit of being raised by a kindergarten teacher: her mother, Norma Jean.
Brunson has a mile-long list of credits as a writer, producer, director, and actor, proving that she can wear a plethora of hats in the industry.

“Abbott Elementary” received the same three supporting acting Emmy nominations across its first two seasons: Janelle James and Sheryl Lee Ralph for supporting actress and Tyler James Williams for supporting actor. The comedy is likely to pick up those three bids again for its third season this year, but will it score any beyond that? Also eligible are Lisa Ann Walter in supporting actress (eighth place in our combined odds), as well as Chris Perfetti (10th place) and William Stanford Davis (21st place) in supporting actor — and their categories may be open enough for them finally to break in.
Walter, Perfetti and Davis missing for Season 1 is not at all surprising. A word-of-mouth hit, “Abbott” already exceeded expectations with seven nominations in total, including for series, actress (Quinta Brunson), writing and casting. “Abbott Elementary” star Lisa Ann Walter shared with People that she’d be up for revisiting her 1998 version of the classic “Parent Trap,” telling the outlet, “Yes, absolutely.” She was only too happy to speak about her “Parent Trap” costar, Lindsay Lohan, at the NAACP Image Awards on Saturday.
“I would love to go back for another version of it — or if [Lohan] wants to come on to our show, I’d love that, too,” she added.
This isn’t the first time Walter has discussed bringing Lohan onto the hit ABC sitcom. In February, Walter brought up the possibility of reviving her “Parent Trap” character again, this time at the SAG Awards.

Exclusive: There will be quite a few familiar faces roaming the halls of Willard R. Abbott Elementary in the coming weeks.
After a surprise cameo from 2024 Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper during Sunday’s special episode of Abbott Elementary, ABC is keeping up the momentum.
Lana Condor, Keegan-Michael Key, Cree Summer, Tatyana Ali and Karan Soni will all be guest stars/recurring guest stars in various upcoming Season 3 episodes.
No details yet on how each of these actors will come into contact with the teachers at Abbott.
Audiences won’t have to wait much longer for them to start rolling through, though. Summer is set to appear in her first episode on Wednesday. Here’s the logline for that one:
Janine spearheads a pilot program that brings a librarian to Abbott; however, when friction arises with one of the teachers, it strains Janine’s relationships with both parties. Meanwhile, both...

Bradley Cooper just made a surprise appearance on a brand new episode of Abbott Elementary!
The 49-year-old actor returned to television for the first time in eight years on the ABC comedy’s post-Oscars episode.
Airing right after the 2024 Oscars, Bradley actually played himself on Abbott!

Here’s an episode synopsis: Abbott Elementary is deemed a Philadelphia historical landmark, much to Ava and Janine’s delight; however, Barbara and Melissa are not as impressed. The school plans a celebration in honor of its namesake, but not everything goes as planned.
During his appearance, Bradley, who is from the Philadelphia area, made fun of himself and his Oscars campaign.

Bradley Cooper may not have won an Oscar, but he did win a role on “Abbott Elementary.”
The “Maestro” actor stopped by to play himself in the cold open of the “Abbott” episode that aired directly after ABC’s telecast of the 96th Academy Awards. In the scene, a student in Melissa’s (Lisa Ann Walter) class brings Cooper to campus.
“Whenever I’m in Philly, you know the deli across the street? That’s my first stop,” the Pennsylvania native says. “My dad used to always take me there. They have the best hoagies in the city.” His second grade friend retorts, “Everybody wanted to take a picture with him, so I figured he was famous.”
Though the scene was obviously taped well before the Oscars, it doesn’t seem the “Abbott Elementary” writers were predicting a win for Cooper, instead allowing him to self deprecate about his much-talked about Oscar campaign.

Abbott Elementary may not have aired in its usual timeslot this past week, but there was a good reason for it as the ABC comedy aired an Oscars night episode featuring a very special guest star: Maestro‘s Bradley Cooper. The Oscar-nominated performer and director made a cameo appearance as himself in the opening moments of the Sunday night broadcast as he stepped into the halls of the titular school. Pulled into Melissa’s (Lisa Ann Walter) classroom by one of Abbott’s students, Cooper was put on the spot. (Credit: ABC) Eager to understand how he’s there, she asks what brings him to Philly, and the Pennsylvania native mentions that the sub shop across the street is his first stop whenever he visits because it holds a lot of nostalgia. “They have the best hoagies in the city,” Cooper says. As he’s put in the metaphorical spotlight,...

Abbott Elementary will still air on Wednesday March 6, but no new episode will be broadcast, and that’s for a very specific reason. As previously unveiled by ABC, a new episode of Abbott would broadcast following the 96th Academy Awards. In other words, the biggest night for movies is set to be the lead-in for Abbott‘s forthcoming episode, “Willard R. Abbott.” The installment will see the titular school deemed a Philadelphia historical landmark, much to the excitement of principal Ava (Janelle James) and Janine (Quinta Brunson), but Barbara (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) aren’t as impressed with the accolade. As the school plans a celebration in honor of its namesake, not everything will go as planned. (Credit: Disney/Gilles Mingasson) Joining Brunson, James, Ralph, Walter, Tyler James Williams, Chris Perfetti, and William Stanford Davis for the episode are guest stars June Diane Raphael and Jennifer Elise Cox.

Jeopardy!‘s Tournament of Champions is bigger than ever this year.
To celebrate its 40th season, the American trivia institution invited a record-breaking 27 contestants to its hallowed annual tourney featuring the previous season’s best champions. (It also certainly didn’t hurt that the show needed to add some extra tournaments for ToC eligibility due to the Hollywood writers strike messing with its usual production schedule).
The expanded contestant count has given Jeopardy! the opportunity to invite back some intriguing contenders who didn’t hit the required benchmark of at least five wins in their initial run. It’s also meant that the show has gotten to try something it’s never done before: bring on a Celebrity Jeopardy! champion to contend with the “real” trivia masters.
Said Celebrity Jeopardy! champ on this year’s ToC is comedic actor Ike Barinholtz, who you may know from his time on Mad TV,...

The 2024 SAG Awards allegedly only ran 10 minutes over its two-hour time slot on Saturday, but it felt a whole lot longer.
Unlike most awards shows, the SAG Awards and other guild ceremonies award winners only in their respective disciplines, but that didn’t make the telecast more efficient or memorable in any way. While the room full of nominees and winners were endlessly thankful to their union and outside solidarity during the strikes, the telecast failed to sufficiently honor the talent on display in a worthy manner — that, too, on the show’s 30th anniversary.
And it was no ordinary SAG Awards year for another obvious reason: The telecast aired live on Netflix for the first time ever (including a pre-show hosted by Tan France and Elaine Welteroth). Netflix is one of the only streamers that doesn’t dabble in live TV, so teaming up with the SAG Awards was both surprising and smart.

Netflix made clear from the start that they were running a different kind of awards show.
Presenter and quasi-host Idris Elba indicated to the attended nominees that, in their speeches, they were free to let expletives fly, but that none of them should say anything “you wouldn’t say in front of Oprah.” After the SAG Awards had fully moved to streaming — after a liminal year, in 2023, in which the ceremony had aired on Netflix’s YouTube channel, preceded by a long tenure on the Turner cable networks — it felt like a sort of safe space for speaking frankly.
But shifting the script doesn’t necessarily match the priorities of actors during awards season. And while the ceremony deserves some credit for reinventing itself, its primary function was fueling the conversation about the forthcoming Oscars. In this, it provided plenty of fuel — with Lily Gladstone and Cillian Murphy winning the...

As the staff comes together to review the drug policy, they realize it’s quite outdated, particularly when it comes to the banning of cigarettes as seen in TV Insider’s exclusive sneak peek clip, above. “On the school’s website, we have no skateboarding, no vaping, no loitering, no horseplay, no weapons, no open flames, no bullying, and no gambling,” Ava (Janelle James) reports to her colleagues as she rattles off Abbott’s rule list. (Credit: Disney/Gilles Mingasson) “That last one’s just for students though, right?” Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) asks quietly, but she doesn’t receive an answer. Instead, Ava continues to reveal, “There’s nothing here about cigarettes.” As the principal prompts...

Class will stay in session at Abbott Elementary.
Mere days after returning with its strikes-delayed and supersized third season, the Quinta Brunson comedy has been renewed for a fourth season at ABC. The news was announced by co-star William Stanford Davis (aka Mr. Johnson) on Saturday at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour, where he was a surprise guest during ABC’s time before the press corps.
Disney Television Group president Craig Erwich also announced renewals for Celebrity Family Feud and Jeopardy Masters, as sources say Dancing With the Stars will also return for its 33rd season.
Season three returned Wednesday with ratings that were on par with its sophomore debut (2.8 million total viewers and a 0.5 in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic for its first part and 2.7 million and a 0.5 for the latter). The comedy, which earned Brunson an Emmy, is a co-production between Disney’s 20th Television and Warner Bros. Television,...

Abbott Elementary isn’t going anywhere.
The comedy series has been renewed for Season 4 at ABC, as announced by Willard R. Abbott Elementary’s own Mr. Johnson (William Stanford Davis) during Disney’s Television Critics Association Press Tour.
The renewal comes on the heels of the much-anticipated Season 3 premiere, which was delayed due to last year’s strikes. The episode not only gave a fitting explanation for why the camera crews had missed the first half of the school year but also had some supersized guest stars.
Season 2 of Abbott Elementary was quite the hit for ABC, averaging a 3.56 rating among adults 18-49 in the 35-day viewing window. That marked the strongest season average for an ABC comedy since the 2019-2020 season.
Recently, creator and star Quinta Brunson also took home the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Season 2. In addition to Brunson, the series...
