The documentary “Outstanding: A Comedy Revolution” is set to premiere globally on June 18 on Netflix. The feature-length documentary, the first of its kind to address this topic, examines the history of queer stand-up comedy as — according to its logline — “an instrument for social change over the past five decades, actively reflecting and challenging cultural norms and values.”
The film combines stand-up performances and talking head interviews, as well as archival materials featuring LGBTQ+ comedians, and includes Lily Tomlin, Sandra Bernhard, Wanda Sykes, Suzy Izzard, Hannah Gadsby, Tig Notaro, Rosie O’Donnell, Margaret Cho, Bob The Drag Queen and Trixie Mattel.
Historians interviewed for the documentary include Dave Holmes, Roger Mason, Shar Jossell, Susan Stryker and Kate Aurthur, Variety‘s Editor-at-Large.

The future is indeed female in Genesis, a new sci-fi dramedy from Audrey Evans.
“Imagine an individual cloning herself — it’s sort of an immaculate conception, if you will,” explains Meredith Baxter in a clip of the dramedy, which explores the extinction of the male species and the promise of an all-female society.
Robert Romanus, Suzanne Westenhoefer and Dana Goldberg are also set to star in the film, which is described as “a B movie with style” and “Orange is the New Black meets Pulp Fiction meets Enter the Dragon.” It is currently raising funds on Indiegogo.

Happy birthday to the one and only Sarah Shahi!

Amy Poehler and Tina Fey really want you to watch them host the Golden Globes on Sunday. They even created a drinking game to make the show more interactive. Here are the rules:
Drink any time an actress cries in a speech.
Drink any time you see a person actively not listening to someone onstage.
Drink any time someone says, "I didn't prepare anything!"
Eat a meatball sub any time someone thanks Harvey Weinstein.
Take off an article of clothing any time they show Judi Dench.
Take off an article of clothing any time Maggie Smith wins.
Thankfully, Salma Hayek will be returning to 30 Rock for the show's big finale. I miss you already, Liz Lemon.

Happy birthday to Belinda Carlisle and Pariah's Aasha Davis!

An American Horror Story: Asylum teaser clip has arrived to give you nightmares.
Comedian and Lgbt ally Chelsea Handler is all suited up on the cover of Marie Claire @Work. I'm digging her look.
U.S. Olympic goalkeeper Hope Solo accused her former Dancing With the Stars partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy of slapping her “across the face” in her memoir Solo: A Memoir of Hope. Solo said Chmerkovskiy “was extremely apologetic” but that the blow was “powerful enough that her ears rang afterwards.” This is not Ok.
Lesbian comedian Ever Mainard is featured in Get Cash 4 Rights, a spoof of those ridiculous Get Cash 4 Gold commercials.

Good afternoon and happy Friday!
Happy birthday to Elizabeth Banks, Chloe Moretz and Laura Dern!
Out comedian Fortune Feimster (Chelsea Lately) has joined the line up for this year’s Dinah Shore weekend! Feimster will host the Laughing Loud 4 Comedy Show on Thursday, March 29 at The Riviera Spa & Resort in Palm Springs, CA. Joining Feimster on stage are headliners Suzanne Westenhoefer, Jessica Kirson and Karen Williams.
Congratulations to Albert Nobbs actress Glenn Close for being honored at Aarp magazine's 11th Annual Movies for Grownups Awards Gala in Beverly Hills, California. Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady) was also honored along with Lifetime Achievement Award winner Sharon Stone.
You should all know by now that I’m obsessed with The Hunger Games. In an interview with MTV, the film’s star Jennifer Lawrence answers questions from fans and reveals some spoilers from the upcoming films.

Riddle me this. What do you get when you combine over 10,000 happy lesbians, daily pool parties, nightly dance parties, and enough alcohol to keep Amy Winehouse occupied for five days? If you answered, "I don't know, but where do I sign up?" you wouldn't be the first. Actually, what you do get is the largest lesbian event in the world: The Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs, California.
The desert extravaganza that's been described as "Lesbian Spring Break" is more than gay girls gone wild. I've been to three Dinah's and can tell you it's not for the weak, the straight, or the easily shocked. You haven't lived until you've seen topless girls hanging off a hotel balcony, swinging a blow up doll and waving to Leisha Hailey.
A new feature length documentary, Out in The Desert, promises an insider's look into, not only the dreamy dykes, debauchery and drama,...

Celesbians, celebrities and supporters alike are taking it off and taking a stand for Lgbt rights in photographer Adam Bouska’s “NOH8” Prop 8 Exhibition. In conjunction with Dallas Pride 2009, Bouska’s week-long exhibit (starting September 19) will include “straight and Lgbt Californians,” both famous and not, with tape over their mouths to symbolize the end of Lgbt-targeted hatred and violence.
The ultimate goal is to garner enough buzz and support in order to repeal Proposition 8 that passed in November 2008. Some posed in the buff to, uh, show America that nothing holds them back from fighting for justice! Or something like that. Among the subjects are musicians, parents, military personnel and politicians.
First, let’s take a look at some lovely lezzies that participated:
Out Comedian Suzanne Westenhoefer
Charlene of Gimme Sugar
Openly gay celebrity trainer Shawnee Harkins
Lesbian comic Erin Foley
Some other favorites:
Kathy Griffin and her Daytime Emmys

Last week, the devastating news of the passage of Proposition 8 in California — and similar amendments in Florida and Arizona — angered and saddened Lgbt people and our supporters all over the world, prompting thousands to march in protest across the country this weekend.
18,000 gay and lesbian couples were married in California during the six months it was legal, before the passage of Prop 8.
In the pages to follow, AfterEllen.com profiles some of the couples whose marriages are now in jeopardy because of this new law, and offers their perspectives on the battle ahead. (Wedding dates are noted in parentheses next to their names.)
Since this is an entertainment site, we're focusing on couples connected to the entertainment industry in one way or another, and therefore relevant to AfterEllen.com's commitment to furthering lesbian visibility in popular culture. But these are just a few of the stories to be told in...
