The Cylons, androids created by man, are the villains of "Battlestar Galactica," but they wear human guises. This reflects how the show's human heroes are all deeply flawed people and humanity's foibles (from arrogance to self-destructive) continue to haunt them even as their technology soars past the modern day.
Indeed, the best villain in "Battlestar Galactica" was a human character: Admiral Helena Cain (Michelle Forbes), commander of the Battlestar Pegasus. In the series' pilot min-series, the Cylons attack humanity's 12 colonies. The only survivors appear to be Galactica herself and a handful of civilian spaceships, who set out to find the mythical world Earth to be their new home.
Midway through season 2 in the episode, "Pegasus," the Galactica and her fleet meet the Pegasus, the other Battlestar which survived the genocide.. It doesn't stay a happy reunion for long. In a great dramatic move, Cain pulls rank on Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos...

What they don’t expect, but who possibly could…was that this was the region of 1968 Vietnam that had dinosaurs in it. Well, no wonder we lost. For the 15th anniversary of the "Battlestar Galactica" finale, I spoke with several of the show's writers and actors for an inside look at how it reached that conclusion. One of them was David Eick, the series' co-creator (with Ronald D. Moore). I asked the man who resurrected "Galactica" out of its campy 1970s roots why attempts to keep the franchise going faltered.
You see, "Battlestar" hadn't even been finished a year when a prequel spin-off debuted: "Caprica," an ensemble drama set more than 50 years before the series on the eponymous planet (one of the 12 colonies razed by the robotic Cylons at the outset of "Battlestar Galactica"). The series debuted in January 2010 and wrapped that November after a single, 19-episode first season -- its planned multi-year run aborted by low ratings.
Next, Eick and co. pivoted with "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome," a second prequel (but after "Caprica") set during the first human/Cylon war.

Created in 1978 by Glen A. Larson, the original Battlestar Galactica featured a great cast. Though the show only ran for a single season, the original series of Battlestar Galactica earned two Primetime Emmys and a People’s Choice Award in 1979 after its short run.
It also laid the groundwork for the 2004 reboot starring Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell, which was similarly critically acclaimed and remains one of the most beloved sci-fi series in TV history.

This post contains spoilers for "Star Trek: Picard" season 2.
On the cult TV series "Battlestar Galactica" (1978-1979), actor John Calicos played the evil Count Baltar, a human traitor who had sold out his species to the Cylons, a phalanx of genocidal androids who aim to destroy all humanity. Baltar was often seen in capes and robes and looked very much like a supervillain. In the world of "Battlestar," the Cylons have, in a sudden attack, destroyed the human homeworld. The remaining survivors must traverse through dangerous, enemy-laden space to the only known source of safety, a long-lost planet called Earth. Baltar would alternately betray the humans, but also secretly help them when he realized the depth of the Cylons' villainy.
The 2003 revival of "Battlestar Galactica" began with a massive miniseries experience, and the character of Baltar was reimagined as the more morally complicated Dr. Gaius Baltar, played by actor James Callis.

Dawn Wilkinson, who has partly directed the third season of drama series ‘Step Up’, has shared that the show features stories which are socially relevant but at the same time, they are very entertaining and engage the audience on an emotional plane.
Commenting on the storyline of the show Dawn, who has directed five of the season’s ten episodes said: “I love the way the characters are written, and Holly (showrunner) has created storylines where there are parallels between the characters. The stories are socially relevant but still entertaining and that engages an audience; makes them want to watch and makes them feel for the characters.”
Based on the cult film, ‘Step Up’, this series follows the drama, scandalous romance, and rivalries told through the intersection of the worlds of music and dance within a highly sought-after performance empire.
“I’ve always felt like that is the best way of storytelling.

"You think you're so smart? I'm Terrence, I'm righteous, assholes." Who's in need of some killer cyberpunk animation?! This short film titled PostHuman first premiered way back in 2012, playing at numerous film festivals before eventually landing online. It's under 5 minutes and it's definitely worth a watch. We're only now catching up with it all these years later and more than happy to feature it now. A genius hacker and his dog help an enigmatic young woman to free the remaining test subjects of a black ops Esp test lab. Directed by Cole Drumb, the short features the voices of Tricia Helfer as Kali and Ulric Dihle as Terrence. "Gritty, hyperstylized, and dripping with intense images, PostHuman is Nsfw, for children, or adults with no sense of adventure." This reminds me of Akira and Ghost in the Shell, with the same kind of animation style and hacker vibes. It's just too short!

Starz has canceled the “Step Up’ series after just one season on the network, Variety has confirmed.
Produced by Lionsgate TV, the first two seasons of the show were released on YouTube. Starz revived the show in 2020 after it was left in limbo when YouTube took a step back from producing original scripted content. At the time, news of the move seemed a sensible transition considering that Lionsgate is Starz’ parent company.
According to the series description, the musical drama followed the students and faculty of High Water, “an incubator for new artistic talent where founder Sage Odom (Ne-yo) and his partner Collette Jones (Christina Milian) struggle to maintain their empire.”
In Season 3, viewers witnessed Sage, Colette and their relationship challenged as they faced criminal charges, financial ruin, and powerful political enemies who wanted to destroy Sage and High Water. The Season 3 finale, which will now serve as the series finale,...

Step Up will not be returning for a fourth season on Starz.
Per Deadline, the series has been canceled after three seasons.
The news comes just ahead of its season finale, which is set to premiere next week.
Given how late in the game the cancellation came, there's a good chance there will be plenty of loose ends.
The series first started its life on YouTube, airing as a YouTube premium original for two seasons.
Inspired by the Step Up Lionsgate film franchise that grossed over 600 million at the worldwide box office, the series centers on Sage Odom (Ne-Yo) as the legendary founder of Atlanta’s famed High Water Performing Art School.

Exclusive: There will be no fourth season of Step Up (fka Step Up: High Water). Starz has canceled the drama series after its one-season run on the network. The upcoming Season 3 finale, slated to premiere next week, serving as a series finale.
The first two seasons of the Lionsgate TV TV-produced Step Up ran on YouTube. After the Google-owned company in 2019 pulled out of the original scripted business, leaving the series in limbo, Lionsgate-owned Starz stepped in and picked it up for a third season.
The cancellation of Step Up follows Starz’s cancellation yesterday of another Lionsgate TV-produced series, Dangerous Liaisons, reversing its early Season 2 renewal.
Lionsgate has been scrutinizing its balance sheets as the company is preparing to spin off its studio from Starz next year though sources indicated that the cancellations are largely product of fiscal austerity in a very tough economic environment as media companies are stepping up cost-cutting measures.

A different actor would've played Lee Adama on the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica" had Jamie Bamber listened to his gut. Lee is one of the series' main characters, the son of Commander William Adama (Edward James Olmos) and a reimagined version of the original series hero Apollo (Richard Hatch) — "Apollo" is simply Lee's pilot callsign rather his given name.
Bamber hasn't had the most illustrious career since "Galactica" ended; the fantasy series "17th Precinct," which reunited him with co-stars James Callis and Tricia Helfer and co-creator Ron Moore, never went past the pilot. But that's not a reflection on his acting...

Despite the chaos of The Rookie Season 4 Episode 1, on The Rookie Season 4 Episode 2, it seemed like the team was back to regular business.
This episode had a special guest star, Tricia Helfer! She always seems to be popping up in all of our favorite shows now and then. Of course, she was as charming as always!
As the episode unraveled, the division gained a new rookie. Usually, this would be exciting though said rookie carries a significant burden on his shoulders at all times.
It seems like The Rookie wants to keep reminding the audience that they didn't forget about Jackson West. The opening scene of this episode was an awkward conversation about what color to paint his room.
Tamara moved into West's old room in Chen's apartment; it seemed like Nolan was enlisted to help paint the walls against his will. Maybe he owed Chen a favor? Who truly knows.

This is an excerpt from TV Guide Magazine’s Sci-Fi & Fantasy Special Collector’s Issue, which is available for international pre-order online at SciFi2021.com and available nationwide on newsstands on Tuesday, September 14. It’s fitting that you can’t spell “sing” without “sin,” because the musical moments Lucifer has incorporated over the years have always been more fun than should be allowed. Here’s a rundown of some of the hottest bits that have kept our impure thoughts thumping. “Sinner Man” Tom Ellis’ Lux performance of the Nina Simone standard in Season 1 was the first time we suspected that he could literally do it all. “All Along the Watchtower” The second-season premiere’s final moments introduced Charlotte Richards (Tricia Helfer) just as Ellis wrapped a scorching cover of the Bob Dylan song, which was popularized by Jimi Hendrix. “I’m Alright” After finally forgiving himself for humanity’s failings,...

(Warning: This post contains major spoilers through the series finale of “Lucifer.”)
Kevin Alejandro had a slightly different experience from his “Lucifer” co-stars when wrapping up his time on the show, as his last day of shooting on the sixth and final season was one in which he both acted in the episode and directed it. And it just so happens that this particular installment, “Goodbye, Lucifer,” featured the moment that fans of Alejandro’s Detective Dan Espinoza have been waiting for ever since he died and went to hell at the end of Season 5B: the closure that allows him to head up to heaven.
The scene comes in the penultimate episode of the series, which launched Friday, and features a conversation between Dan and his young daughter with Chloe (Lauren German), Trixie (Scarlett Estevez), who has been devastated over her father’s death for months and unable to cope without him.

Since making her riveting entrance as the Number Six Cylon on Ronald D. Moore's rebooted Battlestar Galactica series in 2003, Tricia Helfer has made portraying powerful, complex, and capable women her trademark.
Whether as a high-powered lawyer, or a Texas Ranger, or a once-super-powered special agent, Helfer never fails to create characters with depth and nuance.
What is even more impressive is her ability to portray multiple versions of a character. For example, as Number Six on BSG, she played no fewer than five notable variants to her central "Caprica-Six" persona.
More recently, she has once again demonstrated her versatility by first playing Mom/Goddess and then the very mortal Charlotte on Lucifer and both Dracula and the pre-Dracula Olivia on Syfy's Van Helsing.
Speaking with TV Fanatic by phone from her home in Los Angeles, Helfer is circumspect about this pattern of multiple characters she has been called upon...

This article contains spoilers for the Lucifer season 5 finale.
During the final episode of Lucifer season 5, “A Chance at a Happy Ending”, Michael (Tom Ellis) arrives at Lux with an offer for Lucifer (also Tom Ellis). The loss of Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro) still fresh in his mind, Lucifer lashes out at Michael when he suggests that Lucifer could get his old job back as the Hell’s king, but having assembled the Flaming Sword and with the angels on his side, it appears that Michael will be victorious in his efforts to rule Heaven.
Michael tries force Lucifer’s hand, saying that Chloe’s guilt over Dan’s death – which Michael ordered his men to carry out – means that she will go to Hell, too. If Lucifer wants to be with Chloe forever he’ll agree to return to Hell to keep her company. Michael says this is Lucifer...

This Lucifer review contains spoilers.
Lucifer Season 5 Episode 14
“Heaven’s never been a democracy.”
You’d think the return of God and Tricia Helfer would be enough to carry any television episode, but Lucifer’s parents also seem to confirm the veracity of the multiverse theory. Still, it’s the heartwarming scenes within the celestial circle that drive “Nothing Lasts Forever,” and once again, Lucifer reveals another facet of its titular hero as his dark side continues to recede and his light shines more brightly than ever. But do we really need Michael redux?
The central storyline centers around whether or not Lucifer is prepared for the full time job commitment that being God will require. The combination of the patently absurd notion that the Devil should take over God’s throne and Chloe’s understandable worry that their relationship might suffer make for some marvelous exchanges. Whether he wants...

This article contains pre-Lucifer Season 5b spoilers.
Battlestar Galactica actress Tricia Helfer has predominantly played two different – but very memorable characters – on Netflix‘s fan favorite police procedural Lucifer, making her journey in the series a complex one.
In season 2 of Lucifer, long before Fox cancelled the show and it was revived by Netflix, Helfer joined the cast as a defense attorney called Charlotte Richards, but Charlotte’s body was soon taken over by Lucifer’s mother, who originally co-created the universe with God.
Long ago, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) had rebelled against God (Dennis Haysbert) over his love for humanity, and the Goddess started to despise God’s pet project, too. She was banished to Hell, but Lucifer felt so betrayed by his mother that he refused to look after her, leaving Mazikeen (Lesley Ann-Brandt) in charge of her torture. The Goddess wouldn’t stay in Hell forever, finding...

This Van Helsing article contains major spoilers for the season 5 premiere.
From the dynamically retooled opening title sequence to the Jack-centric Transylvania storyline, it takes only moments to recognize that Van Helsing’s fifth and final season promises to take fans on a wild ride as it brings to a close its delightfully circuitous tale of horror’s most iconic vampire hunting family. Season premiere “Past Tense” doesn’t represent the first time the Van Helsing family story finds itself in the past, but there seems to be a more concerted effort this time to employ traditional time travel elements as the unanswered questions mount.
It’s been sixteen months since the season four finale, but the head of the Van Helsing clan remains noticeably absent from the story even though her imprint is unmistakable. Fans of the series understand Kelly Overton’s (Vanessa Van Helsing) pregnancy last season limited her participation,...

Hollywood filmmakers and movie stars have joined forces with Humane Society International to produce a powerful stop-motion animated short film, Save Ralph, to end cosmetic testing on animals around the world.

Starz has recast the role of Tal Baker for its “Step Up” TV series. The cable channel said Tuesday that Petrice Jones, the actor who played the part when the show’s first two seasons aired on YouTube, will be replaced by Keiynan Lonsdale.
Jones took a series regular role on a different show, so he was not available for the new season of “Step Up,” which was picked up by Starz in May 2020 after the show, formerly known as “Step Up: High Water,” was canceled at YouTube, an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
Per Starz’ character description, “Once an outcast from Ohio, taken from his mother and dropped in the tough streets of Atlanta. Tal faced persecution for his eccentricities, his sexuality and his refusal to submit to the expectations of others. Dancing his way into High Water, literally, beaten and bloodied, Tal became the pride of Sage Odom...

Starz is moving ahead with its planned revival of the Step Up TV series.
The premium cabler has now announced that it has recast the role of Colette, which the late Naya Rivera originated.
Rivera died last July following a tragic drowning incident at Lake Piru.
She was 33.
Actress and singer Christina Milian has been tapped to succeed Rivera on the third season of the series.
"Naya's death was a terrible loss to our world that we will, frankly, never stop mourning," Step Up series creator and executive producer Holly Sorensen said in a statement Monday.
"It was almost impossible to consider there could be someone so graceful and loving who could both help us honor our loss, while also bringing a deep reservoir of talent to our show, in so many areas."
"Christina is an exceptional human and a dazzling performer and we are so happy she has joined our family.
