When last we left Darrowby, there was cause for celebration. With longtime crushes James (Nicholas Ralph) and Helen (Rachel Shenton) newly engaged and a deepening sense of trust between brothers Siegfried (Samuel West) and Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), it seemed like “All Creatures Great and Small” was settling into a new chapter of evolving happiness for all involved. But at the tail end of a heartwarming Christmas special, the final moments signaled something else that lay ahead: a warplane flying overhead as Mrs. Hall (Anna Madeley), the beating heart of Skeldale House, looks on with a knowing, concerned stare.
Season 3 of the series, premiering stateside on PBS this week after airing on Channel 5 in the UK, follows through on that farewell hint. These new episodes of “All Creatures Great and Small” venture out farther to the show’s opposite emotional poles than it has before, a small feat for a...

“All Creatures Great and Small,” the wholesome reboot of the popular British veterinarian drama, is returning for Seasons 3 and 4.
U.K. broadcaster Channel 5 and PBS Masterpiece in the U.S. have officially signed on for two more seasons of the Playground-produced drama. Each season will get a 6-episode order, along with a Christmas special. PBS Masterpiece, which will debut Season 2 on Sunday (Jan. 9), is co-producing along with distributor All3Media International selling the series globally.
The show is based on a series of books written by vet Alf Wight under the pen name of James Herriot. An early adaptation of the books, also called “All Creatures Great and Small,” aired on the BBC from 1978 to 1990 and was enormously popular. ViacomCBS-backed broadcaster Channel 5 rebooted the show in 2020 to critical acclaim — a ballsy move given it was one of the broadcaster’s first attempts at scripted content, having been a historically unscripted channel.

PBS Masterpiece and ViacomCBS UK’s Channel 5 have shown faith in All Creatures Great and Small with a rare double season order.
Lead writer and exec Ben Vanstone had already all but confirmed a third run but the commitment to a seven-episode fourth is demonstrative of the success of the reboot of the 1980s UK hit, which has achieved killer ratings on both sides of the Atlantic.
The first season of the James Herriot adaptation attracted 10M U.S. viewers while, in the UK, episodes regularly consolidate above the 5M mark and the drama has helped establish Channel 5 as a creative force, most recently airing a highly-rated Christmas special.
Filming on season three will kick off in Yorkshire in the spring, re-joining the beloved Skeldale House family in the Spring of 1939 as the prospect of another World War looms large over the Dales. Change is afoot for all the Darrowby residents,...

I have never read All Creatures Great and Small, nor any of the follow-up novels by Alf Smith, written under his pen name of James Herriot. Nor did I watch the beloved TV version that ran in the UK and on PBS for seven seasons across the late Seventies and early Eighties. The quiet adventures of a young veterinarian in the 1930s Yorkshire Dales just didn’t sound like my tempo. So I had no real plans to watch or write about the new adaptation, which premiered to big ratings...

Watching “All Creatures Great and Small” feels like gripping a warm cup of tea and settling inside a very cozy, extremely British snow globe. Based on the immensely popular novels by Alf Wight (aka James Herriot), the series follows a 1930s veterinary practice in a sleepy Yorkshire town where farmers and vets alike gather every evening over foaming pints at the local pub after a long day’s work. The impossibly green hills roll into an endless horizon, dotted with stone barns and braying livestock. There are always animals to help, challenges to meet and kind words to be found along the way. Even when life presents cruel twists, there’s never a doubt that the good doctors tending to them have only the best intentions at heart.

British drama All Creatures Great and Small has become a ratings boon for Viacom’s UK network Channel 5 – becoming its highest rated show since February 2016.
This comes as the show, produced by Playground Entertainment, has already been picked up for a second season.
It scored 3.3M viewers, a share of 20.4%, which was the highest rated show for the Ben Frow-run channel since it launched the reboot of The X-Files, scoring 3.7M with a 16.3% share. It comfortably beat C5’s previous drama The Deceived, starring Normal People’s Paul Mescal, which got 2.1M viewers and a 12.3% share and also helped bring in a younger, and more affluent demographic.
The series, which will air on PBS in 2021, is a reboot of the classic James Herriot adaptation, following a country vet. The series sees Nicholas Ralph plays Herriot and Samuel West of The Crown stars as the eccentric veterinary surgeon Siegfried Farnon.

British drama All Creatures Great and Small is on the verge of a second season after exec producer Colin Callender revealed that he was in talks with UK network Channel 5 and PBS.
This comes after Ben Frow, who runs content at the ViacomCBS-owned UK broadcaster said last year that he wanted to commission a second season even before the first aired.
Callender was speaking at PBS’ virtual TCA press tour. He shared that the team behind the James Herriot-inspired series have been discussing a sophomore season.
“We are in discussions with Channel 5 in England and Masterpiece,” said Callender. “We are developing season two right now. So there’s every intention and hope that this will be a returning series and hopefully everyone will fall in love with the characters and want to run and run. Ben Schnetzer (Happy Town) has landed the male lead opposite Diane Lane in FX’s upcoming drama series Y: The Last Man, based on the DC cons. He will play the role of Yorick Brown, which has been recast after Barry Keoghan, who had been originally tapped for the part in 2018, recently exited the project.
After a delay, following a showrunner change last spring, the series will begin production in April. Melina Matsoukas will direct the new pilot episode.
Based on DC Comics’ series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, Y: The Last Man traverses a post-apocalyptic world in which a cataclysmic event decimates all but one cisgender male and his pet monkey. The series follows the survivors in this new world as they struggle with their efforts to restore what was lost and the opportunity to build something better.

The Crawley family were in attendance at CinemaCon this week to present the first footage from Downton Abbey. And this time around, they’re faced with the highest honor: welcoming the King and Queen to Grantham estate.
Per Deadline, it’s now been confirmed that the movie, itself based on the wildly popular ITV period drama, sees Dame Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville scrambling to prepare for the royal visit. As if that wasn’t stressful enough, they’ve been left with no maid and no nanny – there isn’t even a valet! – so prepare for high stakes and high drama when the Downton Abbey movie opens worldwide this September.
And to whet your appetite, here’s a little description of the soon-to-be-released trailer, courtesy of Deadline:

Downton Abbey is one of those shows that I didn’t expect to get completely sucked into. It didn’t look like something that I would enjoy watching, but when my wife and I started watching it, we were hooked. I know a lot of you might feel the same way.
It was just a well-made series that was filled with great characters that you wanted to get to know more about. Well, the story will continue in a new film that is coming that was written by the creator of the series, Julian Fellowes. Brian Percival (The Book Thief, About a Girl), who directed the series’ pilot, is also directing the film.
Today we have a teaser trailer to share with you for the film. It doesn’t show much, but it’s sure to get fans of the series excited about what is coming.

Welcome back, Lady Mary and the Crawley family. Focus Features has debuted the first trailer for the upcoming “Downton Abbey” movie, which continues the story made famous by the Emmy-winning drama series. “Downton” originally aired for six seasons on ITV in the United Kingdom and on PBS in the United States. Series creator Julian Fellowes has long wanted to turn the series into a feature film, and he wrote the script for the movie.
“Since the series ended, fans of ‘Downton’ have long been waiting for the Crawley family’s next chapter,” Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski said earlier this year when the film was announced. “We’re thrilled to join this incredible group of filmmakers, actors and craftspeople, led by Julian Fellowes and Gareth Neame, in bringing back the world of ‘Downton’ to the big screen.”
The film is being directed by Michael Engler, who took over the movie from originally-announced director Brian Percival.

The cameras, they are a-rolling on the set of Brian Percival’s Downton Abbey film. And to prove it, Lady Mary herself, Michelle Dockery, shared a really rather stylish set photo just the other day. She’s set to be a prominent player in the long overdue movie, of course, given her ties to the Crawley Family, so we’ll be keeping a close eye on the actresses’ personal Instagram feed as production continues.
It shouldn’t be long before we see more from the film, either, as we’re learning today that it’s set to make its way into theaters next fall. That’s right, Focus Features has announced that Downton Abbey will arrive on the big screen on September 20th, 2019, with those across the pond getting it a bit earlier, on September 13th.

The Crawley family and their servants are back at work as filming kicks off for the feature film spin-off of Downton Abbey.
Star Michelle Dockery, who plays Lady Mary, posted a black and white shot, via Instagram, that appears to show her in her traditional garb.
A few other details have also started to emerge about the Carnival Films production; Matthew Goode, who plays Henry Talbot has revealed that he will star in the film, although he is just “popping in” at the end, presumably too busy running his automobile shop.
He will be joined by a coterie of guest stars including Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton, Geraldine James, Simon Jones, David Haig, Tuppence Middleton, Kate Phillips and Stephen Campbell Moore alongside Dockery, Maggie Smith and Hugh Bonneville.
Michael Engler is directing the film, which was written by series creator Julian Fellowes. Fellowes is producing alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge.

At long last, it’s finally happening. Yes, after much back and forth and several false starts, a Downton Abbey movie is about to materialize and just in case you still had any doubts, Focus Features and Carnival Films announced this weekend that filming has now begun.
From what we understand, series creator Julian Fellowes is the brains behind the movie’s script, and he’ll co-produce the period drama alongside Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. Brian Percival, meanwhile, whose credits include The Book Thief and About A Girl, among others, and who directed the series’ pilot, will helm the pic, so it’s certainly in good hands.
Plot details are practically non-existent at this early, early stage, and understandably so, but Downton fans can rest assured that, yes, one of TV’s greatest ever dramas is about to receive the send-off it deserves. Especially since the film will see most,...
