Forget for a moment who you Think will win “Survivor: Island of the Idols.” Instead, we want to know who you Want to win when the Season 39 finale airs Wednesday, December 18 on CBS.
With only five castaways still in the running to join the “Survivor” winners list, which one are you secretly (or not so secretly) rooting for to prevail: Lauren Beck, Tommy Sheehan, Janet Carbin, Dean Kowalski or Noura Salman? Cast your vote in our poll below and then defend your choice in the comments section.
See‘Survivor’ power rankings: We think Tommy Sheehan will win, but who will he beat in Season 39 finale?
Of course, the season was designed to end with a final six, but real life events got in the way when Dan Spilo had to be removed from the game (a “Survivor” first) because of an off-camera “incident” presumably regarding inappropriate touching. (See host Jeff Probst‘s response.

“Survivor: Island of the Idols” concludes Wednesday, December 18 as the final five — Lauren Beck, Janet Carbin, Dean Kowalski, Noura Salman and Tommy Sheehan — duke it out for the chance to be one of only three that will plead their case to the jury — Jack Nichting, Kellee Kim, Jamal Shipman, Aaron Meredith, Missy Byrd, Elizabeth Beisel, Karishma Patel and Elaine Stott — that they are most deserving of the million dollar prize. Season 39 began with excitement as for the first time in many seasons the female players of both tribes were in control of early votes based on a shared interest of working together as women. That narrative quickly turned sour once the merge hit and Dan Spilo‘s season-long behavior of inappropriately touching women became a catalyst for the permanent fracturing of the female alliance we all wanted.

After 32 days in Fiji, ultimate underdog Karishma Patel was finally voted out of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” after her group’s plan to bring in Noura Salman flopped big time. Karishma is now the seventh member of the jury that will determine the winner of Season 39 on December 18, following Jack Nichting, Kellee Kim, Jamal Shipman, Aaron Meredith & Missy Byrd and Elizabeth Beisel. Watch Karishma’s Ponderosa video above, in which she freaks out when a cockroach flies in her hair.

After 30 days in Fiji, Elizabeth Beisel was voted out of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” thanks to Karishma Patel‘s decision to use her hidden immunity idol to save herself. “Survivor: Island of the Idols” sent home two castaways last week — Aaron Meredith and Missy Byrd — which left only nine players still in the running to win the $1 million prize. Four of those came from the original Lairo tribe, while the other five were original Vokai members. According to Gold Derby readers’ racetrack odds, Elizabeth, Dean and Dan were most in danger of being sent to the Ponderosa jury house in this week’s pre-Thanksgiving episode. Were they right?

Of the nine players left in “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” we think only Five have an actual shot at joining the winner’s list. This handful of castaways have been adept at playing the game from a social standpoint, which means they all have a great shot at winning over the eventual jury. Below we break down our thoughts on those five players in our latest “Survivor” power rankings. In another article we discuss the four we think have no shot at winning Season 39. Do you agree or disagree?
1. Tommy Sheehan – 9/2 odds
In talking with friends throughout the season I’ve found that “Tommy is going to win” is the most polarizing conversation to have. On one hand, the edit has rarely focused on him and his personal journey and hasn’t always cared about showing him in a positive light. On the other hand, out of everyone left...

With only nine players left in “Survivor: Island of the Idols” the path to the end of the game is coming into focus. Of those left, five are from the original Vokai tribe and four are from the original Lairo tribe. A season that began with Vokai outplaying Lairo in challenges and women from both tribes outsmarting the men at tribal councils is now almost evenly blurred, leaving the door open for any one of the nine to outlast the others as sole survivor.
But although technically anyone can still win Season 39, we think there are four players in the game that have no realistic shot at the title. Below we break down our thoughts on those four players. In another article we discuss the five we think can win. Do you agree or disagree?

The Force has been strong with the female contingent of the 39th season of “Survivor.” At this point in the game, there remains six women — Lauren, Noura, Janet, Elaine, Karishma and Elizabeth — and just three men — Dean, Tommy and Dan. On the previous episode, the merged tribe split in two groups, which threw some players for a loop when their alliance buds were on the other team. There were also two players voted out with blindsides, Missy and Aaron, neither of which came off too well during the “inappropriate touching” controversies.

This New York school teacher is currently our readers’ prediction for who will win the $1 million prize when the Season 39 finale airs this December on CBS. Tommy tops our winner’s chart with 18/5 odds, far ahead of second place contender Janet Carbin at 5/1 odds.

Hey,"Survivor" fans. Tonight, November 20, 2019, another episode did indeed air, and it featured two unlucky contestants getting voted off the island. Tonight's episode kicked off with Janet expressing that she doesn't know what to do now after being on the outs before the last tribal council. She said, "I'm a free agent." Noura made some negative statements about Karishama to the private cams saying,"Karishma is lucky to still be here. She doesn't do anything. She's like an 85 year old lady. I have no interest in working with someone like that." Meanwhile, Karishma told the private cams, "I know I'm in trouble." However, shortly after that, Karishama went out and found herself a good ole hidden immunity idol! Needless to say, she was very overjoyed. Tommy was seen campaigning to Noura and Lauren to vote out Karishama. They seemed to agree at that point in time. Next, the immunity challenge took place.

After seven long weeks, the merge finally arrived this week on “Survivor: Island of the Idols.” With 13 castaways still in the running to win the $1 million prize, the original Vokai tribe had a slight seven-to-six numbers advantage over their original Lairo counterparts. Wednesday’s episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” will feature the long-awaited merge as the seven original Vokai tribe members and six original Lairo players join together as one. At first glance Vokai seems to have the upper hand in terms of sheer numbers, but our readers think tribal lines won’t be the only determining factor. New Vokai member Elaine Stott acted like a boss at tribal council last week when she used an advantage and blocked Jason Linden‘s vote. That convinced Aaron Meredith to join her and the two other original Lairo members, Missy Byrd and Elizabeth Beisel, to snuff out Jason’s torch. After two decades and 575 episodes on the air, you may think you’ve seen everything there is to see on “Survivor,” but that’s not the case. “[We’ve] never had a tribal like this. Ever,” admits shaken host Jeff Probst in CBS’s spoiler-filled preview trailer for the seventh episode of Season 39, titled “I Was Born at Night, But Not Last Night” (watch above). It’s unclear whether Jeff is talking to Lairo or Vokai, but as of this writing both tribes are even at seven members a piece. Avoiding tribal council at this stage is imperative as both tribes crave a numbers advantage heading into the merge.

Heading into tribal council during Wednesday’s sixth episode of “Survivor” Season 39, the newly formed Vokai tribe was composed of four original Vokai members and four original Lairo players. Both groups were willing to force a tie and draw rocks, but then Elaine pulled out her block-a-vote advantage she found thanks to her visit to the Island of the Idols. I have been fairly cool about the whole “Island of the Idols” tutorials provided by former “Survivor” champs Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine this season. But leave to good ol’ gal Elaine Stott to disarm both reality superstars with her gusto for the game. Maybe she was a little too eager to say yes to their offer before she even what the task was that the mentors were about to dangle before her.
But given that she was perceived as a target in a post-swap Vokai tribe that was evenly split between four Lairo stalwarts, including Elaine, and four original Vokai members, her advantage of a vote block worked out beautifully. Rob was tsk-tsking her impulsiveness to say yes without any info, but Sandra was all “you go girl” about the 41-year-old Kentucky-based factory worker. “Survivor” being “Survivor,” the castaway even shared the fact that her mother passed away three...

In “Survivor,” a tribal swap can be the kiss of death for a once powerful player at the same time that it can be a glimmer of hope for someone at the bottom of their old tribe’s totem pole. When the Lairo and Vokai tribes were shaken up on episode 5 of “Island of the Idols,” the five original Vokai members that were swapped to Lairo earned the luckiest of draws. That luck earned them the comfort of feeling safe after they lost the immunity challenge and were tasked with voting one of the three original Lairo members out. The decision to eliminate Tom Laidlaw wasn’t easy, but appears to have been orchestrated by Kellee Kim and Janet Carbin, the two players I’m now considering the most powerful in the game.

It’s that time again, “Survivor” fans — “Drop your buffs” time, that is. Just when we were starting to remember who was living at what camp, Jeff Probst came along and mixed things up with a tribe swap. Vokai went into Wednesday’s episode with a nine-to-seven numbers advantage over Lairo, meaning all of the success they had at the immunity challenges (winning three of four) was squandered after the tribe swap evened things out at eight members apiece. Which contestants took advantage of the switcheroo and whose torch was snuffed by Jeff because of it?

Based on CBS’s spoiler-filled preview trailer for Episode 5 of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” (watch above), it’s time to grab the popcorn because we’re about to see a rough-and-tumble brawl between Missy Byrd and Elaine Stott. As the rest of their tribe watches in shock, the two Lairo members wrestle in the dirt in what appears to be a rather serious physical altercation. Will “Survivor” security be sent in to break up the battling castaways? And what in God’s name could have set them off?

After three episodes of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” the Lairo tribe was at a slight numbers disadvantage as they’d voted out two players (Ronnie Bardah and Vince Moua) compared to one (Molly Byman) for the Vokai tribe. Strong females dominated both camps, including the powerful Lairo fivesome and the Vokai underdogs. Did the women successfully vote out another guy in the fourth episode?

On “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” there’s a showmance brewing at the Lairo camp, and it’s “dangerous,” proclaims Aaron Meredith. In CBS’s spoiler-filled preview trailer for the Wednesday, October 16 episode (watch above), Aaron can’t stand to see Dean Kowalski and Elizabeth Beisel “sleeping on top of each other.” Last week Aaron tried to get the men on his side, but with Dean now canoodling with one of the females is Aaron worried he might join the powerful all-girls alliance?

Vince Moua, the third castaway voted out of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” was heartbroken after having his torch snuffed by host Jeff Probst in Wednesday’s episode. This 27-year-old admissions counselor from California had gone through a “Survivor” boot camp like no other when Sandra Diaz-Twine and Rob Mariano tasked him with stealing fire from the other camp. Vince succeeded at his mission, stealing ashes since the fire had burned out, and won a hidden immunity idol for his efforts. Unfortunately, he left with that idol in his pocket as he was voted out at tribal council.
“I was just blindsided, I guess you can say,” Vince said in his exit interview at the end of the third episode. He confessed that he brought his idol with him inside of his water bottle and was “really thinking” about using it, but ultimately decided not to. Watch the video above.

Heading into Wednesday’s third episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” the Lairo and Vokai tribes were even at nine members apiece after the eliminations of Ronnie Bardah and Molly Byman, respectively. Both tribes also possessed one hidden immunity idol: Lairo’s Chelsea Walker found hers in a tree stump almost by accident and Vokai’s Kellee Kim won hers at the Island of the Idols. With the tribes being evenly matched in terms of physical strength and mental acuity, it was anyone’s guess who’d be sent to tribal council this week. So how’d it all play out?

On the second episode of “Survivor” 39, one theme became very clear — the female castaways are large, in charge and not messing around. From making fire and winning physical and mental challenges to swaying the votes of their tribe mates, the ladies have been stand-outs.
But the best move so far, according to the show’s fans, was when nanny Lauren Beck rightfully targeted the charismatic law student Molly Byton as a threat after she swiftly wrapped two Voika males — Jamal Shipman and Jack Nichting — around her finger, earning the nickname “Parvati 2.0.” Lauren convinced two other Voika underdogs, Noura Salman and Jason Linden, to vote for Molly and others followed. As the blindsided Molly said during her exit interview, “I’m not sure exactly where I went wrong or what happened or how this tide turned. I guess I got cocky and I’ve been humbled.”

This week’s “Survivor” episode is not for the squeamish. In CBS’s spoiler-filled preview trailer (watch above), Karishma Patel accidentally cuts her hand to the bone while prepping a coconut. “Oh my God,” she exhales. “I can see my bone. Guys, I’m getting really light-headed.” Surprisingly, not a single one of Karishma’s fellow Lairo tribe members comes to her aid as she writhes around on the ground in pain. Instead, they’re seen casually chatting amongst themselves by the fire.

Over the first two weeks of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” a powerful girls alliance has formed on the Lairo tribe with Karishma Patel, Elizabeth Beisel, Missy Byrd, Elaine Stott and Chelsea Walker. That means the remaining four Lairo guys are outnumbered … unless they do something about it. In a sneak peek of Wednesday’s third episode (warning: spoilers ahead), Aaron Meredith hatches a plan to convince Dean Kowalski, Tom Laidlaw and Vince Moua that they need to work together. While most are on board, Vince seems slightly skeptical. Watch CBS’s promo video above.

How great were the women on both the Orange and Purple teams on the second episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols”? We will count the ways in just a second. But let’s focus on how lame some of the male castaways were — primarily Lairo’s Aaron Meredith and Vokai’s Jamal Shipman — when they acted as if they were somehow large and in charge and then expressed shock when their tribe mates put their own plans into effect without them. Jamal was so cocky, he took a midday nap instead of staying in the loop as others pushed forward their own agenda before that night’s tribal council.
But while he was sleeping, Lauren Beck put into motion her effort to block the over-confident power trio of Molly Byton — aka “Parvati 2.0” — Jack Nichting and Jamal from controlling the game. Lauren had a gut feeling that pretty Molly, with...

After two episodes, “Survivor” Season 39 is off to a promising start. Both tribes have already attended tribal council so we have a clear idea of who is at the top of each, calling the shots and setting the tone for how their tribe will maneuver through the first stage of the game. In the season premiere, Ronnie Bardah thought he was on the top of the world but received a rude awakening at tribal council when he was voted out nearly unanimously by his Lairo tribe members and due in large part to a strong female alliance. In Wednesday’s second episode, Molly Byman was ousted for sticking too closely to the men of the Vokai tribe, leading the other women to cut her loose sooner rather than later

Heading into the second episode of “Survivor” Season 39, we already knew from the preview trailer that the next unsuspecting castaway to meet Sandra Diaz-Twine and Rob Mariano at the “Island of the Idols” would be Kellee Kim. This Vokai tribe member was chosen at random last week when Elizabeth Beisel picked her name out of a bag after losing her fire-making challenge (and her vote) to Rob. Did Kellee succeed this week in gaining an advantage in the game? And which tribe lost the immunity challenge and was forced to vote someone off the island?

Wednesday’s season premiere of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” was one of the show’s strongest, certainly of the last 10 seasons, but quite possibly among the best in its 19-year history. We are so high on the premiere that it’s giving us hope that producers have course-corrected some of the poor editing and meandering storylines that plagued the last few seasons. Four seasons ago Ben Driebergen‘s eventual win was blatantly obvious from the jump due to his heroic editing and just last season the “Edge of Extinction” twist corrupted the tail end of a season where the story was forced to focus on endgame players that would eventually lose to Chris Underwood, a player who was in the game proper for only 13 of 39 days,

We don't have to worry that Survivor will be voted off the CBS schedule this year since the venerable reality series has already been renewed. The 40th season is expected to begin airing early in 2020. While the show continues to do well in the ratings for CBS, the numbers have dwindled over time. At some point, Survivor will either be cancelled or at least cut back to one cycle per year. When will that happen? Stay tuned.

No one ever wants to be the first person voted out of “Survivor,” but each season premiere one unlucky castaway must have their torch snuffed by host Jeff Probst. For Season 39, aka “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” that person was Ronnie Bardah, a 35-year-old poker player from Henderson, Nevada. Ronnie went into tribal council convinced one of the weaker contestants like Vince Moua or Elaine Stott would be voted out first, but he just happened to be on the wrong side of the numbers. “I was blindsided pretty hard,” Ronnie said in his exit interview at the end of Wednesday’s season premiere.
