Survivor contestants are saying see ya to a bit of prize money from pop singer/songwriter Sia.
Just two days after Survivor’s 46th season ended, host Jeff Probst announced that the Sia Prize has come to an end. Sia will no longer award money to her favorite players every season.
On May 24, Probst announced the end of her largesse on Instagram. Sia reposted it.
“After eight years, 14 seasons, 19 players, and over $1,000,000 awarded, Survivor is officially bringing the Sia Prize to a triumphant end!”
Sia reposted Probst’s statement on her Instagram Story, adding animated hearts.
“Over the many years, Sia has brought so much joy to so many players and it was always straight from her heart,” Probst said.
“So it is with tremendous gratitude and admiration to Sia that we bring to a close one of the most unique relationships a TV show could ever have with a...

Survivor is losing one of its fan-favorite unofficial prize funds. Jeff Probst released a statement explaining the prize and said that it has officially ended. It has lasted eight years, 14 seasons, and 19 players have won over $1 million. However, Jeff said it is time to close it down.
Here is what Jeff Probst said is ending on Survivor after players won an extra million dollars in prize money.
Sia Is Ending Her Survivor Prize Fund
Sia is an Australian singer/songwriter who is a huge Survivor fan. When she began offering her own money as a special prize fund for her favorite contestants, it took everyone by surprise. This included host Jeff Probst, who didn’t know it was going to happen until after it started.

Sia will no longer dispense cash bonuses to her favorite “Survivor” players, CBS reality competition host Jeff Probst announced Friday on Instagram.
“It’s the end of one of the most unique eras in the history of ‘Survivor,’” Probst posted to his Instagram story. “After eight years, 14 seasons, 19 players and over $1,000,000 awarded, ‘Survivor’ is officially bringing the Sia Prize to a triumphant end!”
The “Chandelier” singer began her random, ultra-generous donations eight years ago at the “Survivor: Kaoh Rong” live reunion. She joined third-place finisher Tai Trang on stage and told him she was going to give him $50,000, plus another $50,000 to the charity of his choice.
“She was so taken by Tai’s commitment to protecting a chicken from being eaten that she awarded him $50,000 of her own money,” Probst recalled. Sia is a vegan. “Tai was shocked, the audience was shocked, I was shocked! What was happening? Sia was...

CBS has released 44 seasons of Survivor since 2000, and with that many iterations of the reality competition series, some are bound to be flops. The producers are constantly trying new things, leading to massive success (re: hidden immunity idols), and others have been complete hits and misses (re: Edge of Extinction). But bad twists and themes aren’t the only contributors to the criteria of the show’s worst seasons; sometimes, a cast can lead to a season’s downfall. Read on for our five least favorite Survivor competitions.

Over the years, “Survivor” viewers have grown accustomed to witnessing a unique treat in each season’s live finale. Self-described superfan Sia would attend the reunion shows in Hollywood and reward her favorite contestants with a special cash prize. Due to the pandemic, the show understandably scrapped all live aspects of its finale and instead opted to pre-tape the winner announcement and reunion on the island. That left fans wondering: what about Sia’s prize money?!
While it’s unknown if the nine-time Grammy nominee doled out any moolah after “Survivor 41” wrapped, she has now officially made her selection for “Survivor 42.” During a video posted on CBS’s social media, contestant Drea Wheeler has learned that she is the beneficiary of a cool 100,000 of Sia’s own money. Yes, you read that right: one-hundred thou! Watch the video below.

“Survivor” superfans are currently hyped for the upcoming all-winners season, but it’s not always the case that the most popular contestant of the season is the one who wins. In fact, the audience tends to fall in love with those who just come up short of the $1 million prize, often more so than the champion. Players like Rupert Boneham, Cirie Fields and Joe Anglim will probably never win “Survivor,” no matter how many times they come back and try. Their likability is a double-edged sword — they’re genial enough to be safe through several Tribal Councils but once it gets toward the end, they’re too big of a jury threat to win. As we prepare for “Survivor: Winners at War,” here’s the ranking of our 16 favorite lovable losers we hoped would make it onto an all-winner season someday.

There is slight recency bias in the male winners as only two hail from the first 20 seasons of the show: Ethan Zohn of “Africa” (Season 3) and Yul Kwon of “Cook Islands” (Season 13). Next in line is Rob Mariano of “Redemption Island” (Season 22), who just served as a mentor in the recently concluded 39th season, dubbed “Island of the Idols.

You can’t say that the recently completed 39th season of CBS’ enduring reality show “Survivor” didn’t lack for drama — even if much of it was the result of questionable behavior beyond the normal routine of the show.
Top most was the inappropriate touching accusations by Kellee Kim against Dan Spilo, a bad situation made worst when the network and the producers dragged their feet on fully addressing the matter. That allowed two female contestants to exploit the situation to get ahead in the game by telling castaway Janet Carbin that they had problems with Dan, too, and lied about planning to vote him out at the next tribal council.
The #MeToo issues certainly undercut the theme of the season — having former champs Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine act as undercover mentors to the players while cutely hiding out on another island. That is especially true given how Dan...

With “Survivor: Island of the Idols” being such a tumultuous season, many fans are buzzing with excitement to move forward into the show’s landmark 40th season: “Survivor: Winners at War” (watch the trailer). For years and years, longtime superfans have been clamoring for a season with all winners competing against each other to determine the ultimate champion. Season 40 will see the return of old school favorites like Ethan Zohn and Amber Brkich, newer champs like Wendell Holland and Sarah Lacina and enduring icons like Rob Mariano, Sandra Diaz-Twine and Parvati Shallow. But with 39 seasons of winners and only 20 slots to fill, there are some glaring omissions we won’t see on the island this spring.

The New York Times headline says it all:” ‘Survivor’ Limps to a Finale After a Difficult Season.”
CBS’ venerable reality show has been on the air since 2000 sunk to a new low in its latest edition. Not its ratings, since returned to the top 10 of most-watched series, ranking at No. 7, but in its handling of the sensitive #MeToo-era inappropriate touching by a male contestant. On this edition’s premiere, two female players discussed how Dan Spilo was a little too touchy-feely. One player, Kellee Kim, specifically told him on camera that she did not like being touched by other people.
At that early point in the season, you would think someone at the network or the producers might have stepped in. But no. And matters just grew worst from there as some female players exploited Kellee’s concerns and caused Janet Carbin to vote against Dan to show solidarity with...

During the 39th season finale of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” fourth grade teacher Tommy Sheehan took home the $1 million prize over Dean Kowalski and Noura Salman by an 8-2-0 jury vote. Even though Tommy won the advantage-heavy season that brought back former winners Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine as special mentors, he wasn’t fans’ number one choice. In fact, it was the fifth-place finisher, lifeguard Janet Carbin, who ended up dominating our recent poll that asked fans to name who they Wanted to join the “Survivor” winners list.
Janet was an incredibly likeable player and an ace fire-starter to boot, which made her a huge target for her fellow finalists. The oldest woman in the game thought she was safe because she had a hidden immunity idol in her pocket, but unbeknownst to her Dean had acquired an idol nullifier at the Island of the Idols, which completely voided her power.

They’re baaack! At least, 20 of them are. CBS has released the first trailer for “Survivor” Season 40, which features the highly anticipated return of 20 previous champs. Dubbed “Survivor: Winners at War,” this new season premieres Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Get ready to freak out by watching the preview trailer above, which teases a new “fire tokens” twist as well as the return of Edge of Extinction.
Unlike all other seasons of the reality TV show, “Winners at War” will offer a much bigger cash prize: $2 million! Of course, the title of “ultimate winner” may mean even more to some of these folks than any cash amount. Jeff Probst will host this 20th anniversary installment, just as he has every single episode so far. The official trailer made its debut during Wednesday’s finale of “Survivor: Island of the Idols.”

After a season of blindsides, betrayals and one player being ejected for inappropriate behavior, “Survivor: Island of the Idols” came to an end on Wednesday with one player winning the $1 million prize. Heading into the Season 39 finale, only five of the original 20 castaways were still in the game: Lauren Beck, Tommy Sheehan, Janet Carbin, Dean Kowalski and Noura Salman. Gold Derby’s racetrack odds favored Tommy to win it all, but did things go according to plan? And how did the contestants react to former winners/secret mentors Sandra Diaz-Twine and Rob Mariano finally revealing themselves?

The fallout from the way the “Survivor” producers dealt with castaway Dan Spilo and his habit of inappropriately touching female players continues apace. He had been warned about his behavior after the tribes merged and the women shared their stories about their experience with him. We had witnessed on camera that he put his hands on Kellee Kim and even kissed her hair at one point. But instead of giving him the heave-ho right then and there, he was allowed to stay. Dan was even among those players receiving the coveted loved-ones reward of sharing time with his young adolescent son on the island.
But at the end of the episode right before this week’s finale, host Jeff Probst made a rare visit to the camp area shared by the players. He told the remaining contestants, “All right, so I need to share some news. I just spoke privately...

Of course, the season was designed to end with a final six, but real life events got in the way when Dan Spilo had to be removed from the game (a “Survivor” first) because of an off-camera “incident” presumably regarding inappropriate touching. (See host Jeff Probst‘s response.

“Survivor: Island of the Idols” concludes Wednesday, December 18 as the final five — Lauren Beck, Janet Carbin, Dean Kowalski, Noura Salman and Tommy Sheehan — duke it out for the chance to be one of only three that will plead their case to the jury — Jack Nichting, Kellee Kim, Jamal Shipman, Aaron Meredith, Missy Byrd, Elizabeth Beisel, Karishma Patel and Elaine Stott — that they are most deserving of the million dollar prize. Season 39 began with excitement as for the first time in many seasons the female players of both tribes were in control of early votes based on a shared interest of working together as women. That narrative quickly turned sour once the merge hit and Dan Spilo‘s season-long behavior of inappropriately touching women became a catalyst for the permanent fracturing of the female alliance we all wanted.

As ”Survivor” fans prepared to sadly bid adieu to funny, sunny and more-adept-than-she-seemed Elaine Stott after she became 14th player to be voted out of the 39th edition of the game at the end of an episode titled “Just Go For It,” something weird happened. The action continued as host Jeff Probst paid a rare visit to the camp space of the players. Clearly something weird was up.
Turns out, it was a continuation of a topic that will likely define this season of the long-running reality show — inappropriate touching of female castaways by handsy Dan Spilo, 48, a Los Angeles talent manager. Probst told the remaining contestants, “All right, so need to share some news. I just spoke privately with Dan and I want to update you guys. A decision has been made and Dan will not be returning to the game. He will not be going back to camp.

“Survivor” has been on the air for nearly two decades and 600 episodes now, but something happened during Wednesday’s episode that’s never happened before: a player was ejected from the game. The contestant in question was Dan Spilo, a Los Angeles talent manager who was removed by producers because of an “incident” that happened off-camera. After the episode aired on December 11, host Jeff Probst told Entertainment Weekly Dan was “not happy” to be pulled from the game.
“We talked through everything for quite a while, and by the time he got on the boat to leave he had calmed down and was actually very respectful as he departed,” Probst explained. Filming for this 39th season occurred on Mamanuca Islands, Fiji in April 2019. The four-time Emmy-winning host wouldn’t give any details about the specific incident, “out of respect for privacy and confidentiality.” A title card at the end of...

In tonight's episode of Survivor: Island of the Idols, a player was removed from the game for the first time in the show's history. At the very end of the episode, right after tribal council, we saw Jeff Probst approach the camp, which is a rarity in itself. He announced to remaining players Lauren Beck, Janet Carbin, Dean Kowalski, Noura Salman, and Tommy Sheehan that Dan Spilo had been removed from the game. "I just spoke privately with Dan, and i want to update you guys. A decision has been made, and Dan will not be returning to the game. He won't be coming back to camp, he won't be on the jury, he's gone," he said. A message on screen then read: "Dan was...

The “Survivor: Island of the Idols” finale is scheduled for next week, which meant the seven castaways still in the running to win the $1 million prize had everything on the line heading into Wednesday’s episode. On paper both Dean Kowalski and Elaine Stott seemed outnumbered as they came from the original Lairo tribe, compared to the other five original Vokai members Lauren Beck, Janet Carbin, Noura Salman, Tommy Sheehan and Dan Spilo. However, there was a crack in the alliance as Noura had previously contemplated turning on Tommy. According to Gold Derby’s racetrack odds, Lauren and Noura were most in danger of being sent to the jury house in this week’s pre-finale episode. So how’d it all play out?

With only eight castaways left in the running to win “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” we recently asked our readers to vote for who they Hope will join the winners list. Kentucky factory worker Elaine Stott easily topped our poll results with a leading 36% of the vote. Conversely, coming in at 0% was Dan Spilo, the controversial Los Angeles talent manager who was accused of inappropriate touching. Do you agree or disagree with those poll results? Thanks to her funny personality, Elaine was one of the first major targets of the season. Elaine managed to survive that first vote when her allies wrote down Ronnie’s name instead.

Of the nine players left in “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” we think only Five have an actual shot at joining the winner’s list. This handful of castaways have been adept at playing the game from a social standpoint, which means they all have a great shot at winning over the eventual jury. Below we break down our thoughts on those five players in our latest “Survivor” power rankings. In another article we discuss the four we think have no shot at winning Season 39. Do you agree or disagree?
1. Tommy Sheehan – 9/2 odds
In talking with friends throughout the season I’ve found that “Tommy is going to win” is the most polarizing conversation to have. On one hand, the edit has rarely focused on him and his personal journey and hasn’t always cared about showing him in a positive light. On the other hand, out of everyone left...

With only nine players left in “Survivor: Island of the Idols” the path to the end of the game is coming into focus. Of those left, five are from the original Vokai tribe and four are from the original Lairo tribe. A season that began with Vokai outplaying Lairo in challenges and women from both tribes outsmarting the men at tribal councils is now almost evenly blurred, leaving the door open for any one of the nine to outlast the others as sole survivor.
But although technically anyone can still win Season 39, we think there are four players in the game that have no realistic shot at the title. Below we break down our thoughts on those four players. In another article we discuss the five we think can win. Do you agree or disagree?

Something tells us Tommy Sheehan‘s fellow castaways are going to seriously regret not voting him out of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” during last week’s double elimination episode. This New York school teacher is currently our readers’ prediction for who will win the $1 million prize when the Season 39 finale airs this December on CBS. Tommy tops our winner’s chart with 18/5 odds, far ahead of second place contender Janet Carbin at 5/1 odds.

Watching the Nov. 20 episode of “Survivor,” you’d never know that the show’s currently muscling its way through one of the biggest, ugliest controversies of its 20-year run. There were no explicit mentions of the sexual harassment controversy that had swallowed the Nov. 13 merge episodes whole, giving the impression that the show would rather forget the disastrous events of the previous week and just move on. Watching “Survivor” gloss over one of its most badly handled moments to date, as if it should fade into the background like any other piece of juicy drama, isn’t just astonishing. It’s downright insulting, and a baffling display of the show’s inability to grasp the gravity of what happened on its watch.

So-called reality competition shows are often in their own little bubble when it comes to what is actually shown on TV. In order to win, sometimes contestants go too far to push aside their rivals including being deceitful and taking advantage of someone’s common decency.
But what unfolded on the November 13 episode of the 39th season of “Survivor” was one for the history books, causing producers to step in both on and off the camera about castaway Dan Spilo‘s habit of inappropriately touching fellow contestant Kellee Kim. However, two other players, Missy Byrd and Elizabeth Beisel, took matters further and lied about also having #MeToo-like issues with Dan — causing Janet Carbin to vote against someone she actually liked at tribal council over concern for fellow females in the game. But when she learned that Missy and Elizabeth had tricked her — they actually voted With Dan in targeting Kellee,...

Jamal Shipman, the third member of the “Survivor: Island of the Idols” jury, was voted out of the game after surviving on a deserted island for 24 days with little food or water. Upon visiting the jury house, this 33-year-old admissions counselor got to order anything he wanted off of the food menu and he chose … rice?! “I know, why would you get fried rice when you just came off of ‘Survivor,’ but the chicken fried rice sounds really good,” he stated. Survivor contestants Missy Byrd and Elizabeth Beisel have opened up about their actions during the veteran reality series' November 13 episode, in which the pair used sexual harassment allegations to advance their respective games.
During the controversial installment, Kellee Kim opened up to Missy about inappropriate physical contact she'd experienced from Dan Spilo.
Dan's actions were caught on camera, and Kellee confronted him about it, leading to production stepping in to issue Dan a warning.
Missy turned to Elizabeth to fake a story with the intention of getting Dan voted out of the game. In shock scenes, they managed to turn Dan's close ally, Janet Carbin, against him.
Their plan did not work, however, and Kellee was the one sent packing at the tribal council.
There was an immediate backlash as fans and even former contestants debated what went down on social media, and now Elizabeth and Missy have apologized for their actions.

Survivor contestants Missy Byrd and Elizabeth Beisel had some apologizing to do after last night's episode. After Kellee Kim shared her complaints about inappropriate touching from Dan Spilo with Missy, Missy and Elizabeth concocted their own fake story about Dan to help convince other players to vote him out. It ended up being Kellee herself who got the boot, and it made for a really unfortunate ending to a terrible story. Viewers were outraged by Elizabeth and Missy's behavior, and now the two women have posted lengthy apologies to Twitter, specifically addressing Kellee and Janet Carbin, who was affected by their plan. Has there ever been a “Survivor” season that was so consumed by real-world social issues? Here we all thought that super players Sandra Diaz-Twine and Rob Mariano‘s mentoring would be the draw of the show’s 39th season. But the insertion of the Queen and Boston Rob into “Island of the Idols” with their rather obvious lessons on gameplay hasn’t made that big of an impact so far.
What has stood out is some of the behavioral and emotional baggage that the contestants brought with them to Fiji and openly discussed with their tribemates. Consider Karishma Patal‘s sharing her feelings about her traditional arranged marriage. Then there was a respectful verbal discussion about how Jamal Shipman felt when Jack Nichting called his buff a “durag,” which led to a civil talk about white male privilege. Last week, Kellee Kim called out Jamal when he admitted to being “fearful of an all-girls alliance,...

After seven long weeks, the merge finally arrived this week on “Survivor: Island of the Idols.” With 13 castaways still in the running to win the $1 million prize, the original Vokai tribe had a slight seven-to-six numbers advantage over their original Lairo counterparts. Despite those numbers, Gold Derby readers predicted Dan would be the one most likely to get his torch snuffed at the merge. Were they correct?

On “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” Boston Rob Mariano and Sandra Diaz-Twine — both considered among the best players of all time — have been sizing up the castaways as, one by one, they wash up on their beach in order to be mentored by the former champs.
On episode 7, they finally got a student who actually impressed the heck out of them in the form of Janet Carbin, a 59-year-old chief lifeguard from Palm Bay, Florida. Since the beginning, Janet avoided making the mistake of trying to mother the younger players like Reem Daly, 46, did on last season’s “Extinction Island.” Instead, she was congenial and accepting of her fellow players in their 20s and 30s.
Probably Janet’s biggest rival is the upbeat Elaine Stott, a 41-year-old factory worker who controlled the previous tribal council after getting instructions from Rob and Sandra about how to find a block-the-vote advantage during the immunity challenge.

Wednesday’s episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” will feature the long-awaited merge as the seven original Vokai tribe members and six original Lairo players join together as one. At first glance Vokai seems to have the upper hand in terms of sheer numbers, but our readers think tribal lines won’t be the only determining factor. As of this writing Vokai’s Dan Spilo has 29/20 racetrack odds to be voted out at the merge, just ahead of Lairo’s Aaron Meredith at 71/20 odds.

With the merge on the horizon, the Vokai and Lairo camps were dead even at seven members a piece heading into Wednesday’s seventh episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols.” The Vokai tribe had a four-three split with Elizabeth Beisel, Missy Byrd, Aaron Meredith and Elaine Stott on one side and Lauren Beck, Tommy Sheehan and Dan Spilo on the other. Meanwhile, the Lairo tribe was flirting with a girls alliance vs. the three guys. So which castaway ended up getting their torch snuffed by host Jeff Probst?

After two decades and 575 episodes on the air, you may think you’ve seen everything there is to see on “Survivor,” but that’s not the case. “[We’ve] never had a tribal like this. Ever,” admits shaken host Jeff Probst in CBS’s spoiler-filled preview trailer for the seventh episode of Season 39, titled “I Was Born at Night, But Not Last Night” (watch above). It’s unclear whether Jeff is talking to Lairo or Vokai, but as of this writing both tribes are even at seven members a piece. Avoiding tribal council at this stage is imperative as both tribes crave a numbers advantage heading into the merge.

Heading into Wednesday’s sixth episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols,” Karishma Patel had overwhelming 17/10 odds of being eliminated after being on the chopping block for weeks. This ultimate underdog managed to survive the recent tribe swap despite being at a three-to-five numbers disadvantage along with former Lairo members Tom Laidlaw (who was voted out) and Dean Kowalski. If CBS’s latest spoiler-filled preview trailer for “Survivor: Island of the Idols” is any indication, it looks like Wednesday’s sixth episode will be a real tearjerker. Something happens between tribe members Jamal Shipman and Jack Nichting that’s described as a “powerful, life-changing moment.” In the promo video (watch above), Jack, a 23-year-old graduate student from Virginia, declares, “It was really cool to share a very human moment because it brought us together as friends.” And Jamal, a 33-year-old college administrator from Rhode Island, proclaims, “I will remember that for the rest of my life.”

In “Survivor,” a tribal swap can be the kiss of death for a once powerful player at the same time that it can be a glimmer of hope for someone at the bottom of their old tribe’s totem pole. When the Lairo and Vokai tribes were shaken up on episode 5 of “Island of the Idols,” the five original Vokai members that were swapped to Lairo earned the luckiest of draws. That luck earned them the comfort of feeling safe after they lost the immunity challenge and were tasked with voting one of the three original Lairo members out. The decision to eliminate Tom Laidlaw wasn’t easy, but appears to have been orchestrated by Kellee Kim and Janet Carbin, the two players I’m now considering the most powerful in the game.

“I guess I naively felt that Karishma was the one that was going home tonight,” admitted Tom Laidlaw after having his torch snuffed by Jeff Probst during Wednesday’s episode of “Survivor: Island of the Idols” (watch above). It’s that time again, “Survivor” fans — “Drop your buffs” time, that is. Just when we were starting to remember who was living at what camp, Jeff Probst came along and mixed things up with a tribe swap. Vokai went into Wednesday’s episode with a nine-to-seven numbers advantage over Lairo, meaning all of the success they had at the immunity challenges (winning three of four) was squandered after the tribe swap evened things out at eight members apiece. Which contestants took advantage of the switcheroo and whose torch was snuffed by Jeff because of it?
