Tabloid complaints about the BBC can descend into the absurd, such as moans about migrant birds featuring on Radio 4
✒The select committee that interviewed the chairman and director general of the BBC this week had trawled through all the tabloid allegations against Auntie over the past few months. It seems there is nothing the Beeb can get right. Some matters are serious, such as Jimmy Savile and the overpayment of departing staff. Others are incredibly trivial, such as the exact length of cleavage shown by female presenters.
But they all get full coverage in the anti-bbc press, including this week the allegation that some of the birds in the popular Tweet of the Day feature on Radio 4 are not actually British, but migrants who stop here on their way to somewhere else.
You can almost write the stories. They come over here, some of them from outside the EU, and...

Tom Wilson answers his phone while trudging through a bitterly cold Hamilton, Ont. morning on the way to see his grandson. I have to do a double-take. Grandson? Is it possible that Wilson, the hulking figurehead of Hamilton's rough-edged, blue-collar rock scene for the past 30 years, is now a doting granddad?
I then remind myself that there have been many misconceptions about Wilson since he rose to prominence in the 1990s fronting Junkhouse a band whose shadow has perpetually lengthened since their break-up in 1998. Back then, Wilson took the band around the globe like a motorcycle gang leader, stalking stages like a buffalo, and leaving crowds of flannel-clad indie kids cowering in their wake.
But the reality is that Tom Wilson is a consummate, sensitive artist. His paintings have adorned nearly every album he's put out since the end of Junkhouse, whether with Blackie & The Rodeo Kings — his highly successful...

The notion of a music producer is a relatively foreign one to most fans of popular music. While the rough understanding of how a Film Director gets their job done is old hat to even the most superficial of movie fans, the equivalent role in music production is often shrouded in mystery. As even die-hard rock fans who was behind the boards for the early hits for, say, AC-dc, they may well draw a blank. While Harry Vanda and George Young aren't exactly household names, there's also the fact that the band's later producer, "Mutt" Lange, is more widely known for his marriage to Shania Twain, at least for casual audiences. For every Phil Spector there's a Tom Wilson, both incredibly important in the history of...

The first round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft took place in Pittsburgh yesterday and it brought with it a lot of surprises and shocks. Even the first overall pick, which the Oilers eventually used on stud forward Nail Yakupov, was subject to some pre-draft speculation.
The common theme of the first round, however, was undoubtedly defencemen. Eight of the first ten selections were blueliners, and this has some analysts comparing the 2012 draft pool to the 2008 edition, in which notable stars Drew Doughty, Alex Pietrangelo and Tyler Myers were drafted.
Below are the complete first round results:
Edmonton -Nail Yakupov – Rw – Russia Columbus -Ryan Murray – D – Canada Montreal -Alex Galchenyuk – C – United States/Russia NY Islanders – Griffin Reinhart – D – Canada Toronto – Morgan Rielly – D – Canada Anaheim – Hampus Lindholm – D – Sweden Minnesota – Mathew Dumba – D – Canada Pittsburgh -Derrick Pouliot – D – Canada Winnipeg Jets – Jacob Trouba – D – United States Tampa Bay – Slater...

Cleveland -- Tom Wilson Sr., the creator of the hard-luck comic strip character Ziggy, has died, his family said Monday. He was 80.
Tom Wilson Jr., who took over the comic in 1987, said his father died Friday of pneumonia at a Cincinnati hospital. The elder Wilson had moved from Cleveland to a Cincinnati nursing home about eight years ago to be near his family, his son said.
Wilson was an artist at American Greetings card company in Cleveland for more than 35 years and first published Ziggy in a 1969 cartoon collection, "When You're Not Around."
Ziggy was launched in 15 newspapers in 1971 and now appears in more than 500 daily and Sunday newspapers. It also has appeared in books, calendars and greeting cards.
Tom Wilson Jr. said the name Ziggy derived from his father's school experience of being the last alphabetically. When a new classmate arrived with a last name beginning with "Z," the...

Pearry Teo, director of The Gene Generation (review), Necromentia (review) and Syfy's Witchville will tackle Dead Inside which we're told will be a spine-tingling hybrid of Eastern and Western horror influences.
Directing from a script by Jennifer Zhang, Dead Inside is a mix of "teen slasher films in the vein of "Scream" and "Final Destination" with those from Asian horror films such as "The Ring" and "The Grudge"." According to 28Dla, Teo is scouting Victorian Era houses that can fulfill the required creep factor.

George Clooney's The American was number one at the box office this weekend. It made $16.3 million. Machete made $14 million to come in at number two. Last week's number one film, Takers was number three. It made $13.5 million. At number four, The Last Exorcism made $8.7 million. Going the Distance made $8.6 million, which landed it in the fifth spot. It deserved better.
There is absolutely nothing of note in this week's box-office round up.
However, here now are my favorite quotes from around the web with regard to Machete being anti-white propaganda. These are real quotes from real people morons:
Notice the Threat to Arizona at the beginning of The Movie Trailer on the Video Page. This soon coming movie is a perfect example of how to start a Race War made easy. This is nothing new. You will see many Illegals and their Progressive supporters wearing t-shirts with The Plan of San Diego on them.

Amid today’s limp ’80s remakes and contrived, 3-D popcorn movies, a less-recognized genre is experiencing what some critics dub a “new wave.”
Two Romanian documentaries made their world premieres at Cannes this year, including the well-received “Autobiography of Nicolae Ceausescu,” a documentary about the late Communist dictator. Director Andrei Ujica, who fled to Germany in 1981 to escape Ceausescu’s reign in Romania, milled through 1,000 hours of archive footage to film the project.
“It was a kind of self-therapy,” Ujica told Tom Wilson of the BBC World Service last month. “I’m free from him now for the first time in my life.”
While the niche of Romanian documentaries has spent the last few years accruing critical success — Romanian films won “un certain regard” at Cannes in 2005, Camera d’Or in 2006 and Palm d’Or in 2007 — the public’s been less receptive, particularly some Romanians themselves.

Chicago – Steven Soderbergh is arguably the most important American filmmaker working today and his “The Informant!” with Matt Damon, just released on Blu-ray and DVD, is a great piece of evidence to support that argument. He continues to bring traditional stories to life in continuously unique, interesting ways.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.5/5.0
The story of “The Informant!” is one familiar to audiences, especially from a director who tackled the toppling of a corrupt Midwestern company by a little person before in “Erin Brockovich”. Erin and Mark Whitacre (Damon) couldn’t have less in common. One was a heroine. The other was a moron.
The Informant! was released on Blu-ray and DVD on February 23rd, 2010.
Photo credit: Warner Brothers Home Video
Mark is a typical Midwestern schlub with a loving wife (Melanie Lynskey), two kids, a nice home, and a very good job at Archer Daniels Midland monitoring Lysine pricing and its possible damage on the environment.

Warning: Very minor spoilers for The Informant!
I imagine it’s a lesser feat to concoct an M. Night Shyamalan-style script. Get a central conceit, form a twist, reverse engineer a story — bing bang boom. A script like Scott Z. Burns’ The Informant! (based on a book by Kurt Eichenwald), however, is a different machine.
That’s not to say there’s a twist in Steven Soderbergh’s film. There isn’t. The progression of the plot is a very natural extension of character that’s so subtle you may not pick up on it until it slaps you right in the face. With the exception of a very routine start to the 2nd act, The Informant! functions as a gradual transition, challenging the viewer to keep up without pandering or even seeming to hide anything.
Hiding anything and everything is really the core of this film. We follow Matt Damon’s Mark Whitacre,...
