Stars: August Maturo, Mike Manning, Libe Barer, Dan Hedaya, Bianca D’Ambrosio, Chiara D’Ambrosio, Mirabelle Lee, Lukas Hassel | Written and Directed by Jeremiah Kipp
Writer/director Jeremiah Kipp has expanded his short, also titled Slapface, into feature-length; which, as with any short, is a risky undertaking. What works at fifteen or twenty minutes may be drawn out and dull at ninety. Changes to the plot may ruin the mood or message of the original. That’s even more true for something like Slapface which relied heavily on feeling and emotion.
Lucas and Tom lost their parents in a car accident, leaving Tom an unprepared and somewhat unwilling guardian for his younger brother. He would much rather be at the bar with Anna than be at home, or at work for that matter. This leaves Lucas on his own a lot and he spends his time wandering around the woods and getting into trouble with the cops,...

"What happened?" "Did you see it?" Shudder has revealed the official trailer for Slapface, an indie horror film landing on the streaming service this February. It originally premiered last year at the Cinequest Film Festival and FrightFest, also stopping by Grimmfest and the Razor Reel Flanders Film Festival in Belgium. A boy deals with the loss of his mother by creating a dangerous relationship with a monster rumored to live in the woods. When the two reach a tentative trust, a bizarre friendship is born, and Lucas is swept up in a series of primal adventures. The film stars August Maturo as Lucas, with Mike Manning, Dan Hedaya, Mirabelle Lee, Lukas Hassel, Libe Barer, Bianca D’Ambrosio, and Chiara D'Ambrosio. This won the Audience Award at Cinequest, and looks like a thrilling little horror film with a good twist in the story. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jeremiah Kipp's Slapface,...

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for the Season 8 finale of “The Blacklist.”)
“The Blacklist” has at long last revealed the answer to the show’s central question — who is Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) and how is he connected to Elizabeth “Liz” Keen (Megan Boone). Well, kind of.
Though the origin of Red’s connection to Liz isn’t fully explained by the end of Wednesday’s Season 8 finale, the hints laid out across the last two episodes of the season strongly suggest that Raymond Reddington is actually Liz’s mother, Katarina Rostova (played in flashbacks by Lotte Verbeek).
On last week’s “The Blacklist,” titled “Nachalo,” Red, who revealed on the previous episode that he is in fact N-13, the elusive spy she’s been hunting this entire season, brings Liz inside the “epicenter” of his operation in Latvia and begins to tell her the story, the true story,...

"It will try to seduce you, trick you with pleasure, make you want more. It feeds off your desires." Check out the official trailer for a gore-filled horror film titled The Black Room, from filmmaker Rolfe Kanefsky. The film stars Natasha Henstridge (where has she been recently?) and Lukas Hassel as a newly married couple who move into their dream house, only to discover there's something evil in the "black room" in the cellar. Also starring Lin Shaye, Dominique Swain, James Duval, Auggie Duke, and Caleb Scott. From the looks of it, this doesn't seem like anything particular special. There's new horror films being made all the time, and this one seems forgettable despite the marketing. The flaming title card really tops it off. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Rolfe Kanefsky's The Black Room, direct from YouTube: Paul (Lukas Hassel) and Jennifer Hemdale (Natasha Henstridge) have just moved into their dream house.
