Quibi’s new “The Fugitive” is not your father’s “Fugitive” — or your grandfather’s, for that matter.
In fact, the only thing the reboot, which premieres on Aug. 3, has in common with the 1993 Harrison Ford-Tommy Lee Jones movie — itself based on the 1960s television drama — is the man-on-the-run storyline. Series creator Nick Santora didn’t even bring back the lead characters iconic names, Kimble and Gerard.
“This is a modern reimagining of this classic film,” Boyd Holbrook says on Thursday’s episode of The Big Ticket, Variety and iHeart’s podcast. He stars as Mike Ferro, an ex-con who goes on the lam when an overzealous reporter (Tiya Sircar) tweets that he is the prime suspect in the terrorist bombing of a Los Angeles Metro station. Kiefer Sutherland plays Clay Bryce, the detective in charge of the investigation.

The real-life DEA agents who took down Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar are shopping around a new docu-series about the opioid epidemic, TheWrap has learned.
Steve Murphy and Javier Peña, whose hunt for the Medellin Cartel leader was the focus of the first two seasons of Netflix drama “Narcos,” have teamed up with producers Marty Berman and Michael Horowicz to create a new show that looks at how the DEA is fighting the opioid crisis, as well as was what has happened to international drug cartels since Escobar’s death.
“What we want to do is show people what’s being done and what could be done,” Murphy told TheWrap. “[The opioid epidemic] is now the leading cause of overdose deaths in the county.”

1.Netflix Goes Native
No appearance at the Lille Transatlantic Dialogues was more awaited than Reed Hastings. His appearance on the same platform as Andrus Ansip, European Commission, vice president for the Digital Single Market, sparked speculation of a detente between the U.S. streaming giant and the E.U., whose parliament approved quotas for Ott platforms in Europe. And so it proved.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer is not for the faint of heart.
While we absolutely loved the film when we saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival, this psychological horror is one that may deeply trouble you, in a good way. The film poses an impossible dilemma for its main character, Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) but we don't want to tell you what that is. Instead, we're going to give you five spoiler-free reasons to see The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Yorgos Lanthimos
The filmmaker behind Dogtooth, The Lobster, and now The Killing of a Sacred Deer is a storyteller who really enjoys shocking his audience. Sacred Deer is already being called his darkest film yet, which is crazy to consider if you've seen his other films.

Stars: Colin Farrell, Nicole Kidman, Raffey Cassidy, Barry Keoghan, Sunny Suljic | Written by Efthymis Filippou, Yorgos Lanthimos | Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos
Having made a name for himself with weird-yet-accessible black satires like Dogtooth (and its sort-of-sequel Alps) and The Lobster, Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos remains true to form with his sophomore English-language effort, which reunites him with Colin Farrell.
This time, Farrell is cast slightly closer to type, as handsome surgeon Steven Murphy. He goes home each night to an ostensibly perfect family: wife Anna (Nicole Kidman), daughter Kim (Raffey Cassidy) and son Bob (Sunny Suljic). One day, Steven brings home his young friend Martin (Barry Keoghan), the son of one of his patients, who died in surgery two years ago. Steven and Martin are close. Steven has become a kind of father figure. Or possibly a cool, rich uncle. But Martin has sinister plans for Steven and his family.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer, the latest feature from Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, is set in a recognizably American city, but otherwise occupies much the same kind of off-kilter reality as Lanthimos’ previous film, last year’s The Lobster. Steven Murphy (Colin Farrell) is a successful heart surgeon who returns every night to his stately house, attentive wife Anna (Nicole Kidman), and their two children. During his days at the hospital, he alternately spends time with and deflects a teenaged boy, Martin (Barry Keoghan), to whom he seems to owe some debt, the origin of which is unclear. A. O. Scott continues at The New York Times:It’s made clear soon enough. Martin, who seems both a little slow and spookily intuitive, turns out to be the evil force who will torment the Murphys. Some years earlier, Steven had performed an operation on the boy’s father, who subsequently died.

This is a reprint of our review from the 2017 Cannes Film Festival.
Maybe the second or third shot in Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” is of a hospital waste bin, over which Colin Farrell, as heart surgeon Steven Murphy, peels off his bloodied latex gloves post-surgery. Now, if you hold simultaneously in your head the established ideas of the surgeon-as-God and the director-as-God, then that suggests the surgeon equates to the director, and gives us a neat metaphor.

They say that our perspective of the world is shaped by our experiences; I can't begin to imagine what terrible tragedy struck writer/director Yorgos Lanthimos. In his latest exploration of the human psyche, Lanthimos and co-writer Efthymis Filippou tackle the concept of revenge in one of the most fascinating and disquieting ways possible.
The Killing of a Sacred Deer, a title that I only partly understand, stars Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell as Anna and Steven Murphy, a married couple with two lovely children. She's a dentist, he's a doctor, the kids are well adjusted - in short, the perfect family. Into this comes Martin (Barry Keoghan) a young man who happens to be the son of a former patient of Farrell's - a patient who is now dead; presumably at the hands of Dr. Murphy. [Continued ...]...

As season 3 of Narcos opens, the 1990s are in full swing. A salt and pepper Bill and a fresh-faced Hillary are settling into Washington and they’ve got one less narco trafficker to worry about. Pablo Escobar is dead. After 20 episodes of Wagner Moura sashaying around in badly-fitting denim jeans, Narcos’ antihero has been expended. But where to from here?
Where to? Untold levels of brilliance, that’s where. Premiering on September 1st, this new 10-episode installment of the hit Netflix show is television at its finest and it’s liberated by Escobar’s death. Shuffling around in his denim jeans and granddad jersey straining against his paunch, Moura was brilliant as the charismatic king of Medellin, but season 2 became claustrophobic and drawn out in its focus of Escobar and his capture. By comparison, season 3 is an ensemble piece that lets the audience breathe and to my mind, it’s...

As one of the streaming service’s biggest hits, it was really no surprise when Netflix chose to renew Narcos for a third and fourth season back in the fall. The show will now move on from chronicling the rise and fall of Pablo Escobar though, shifting its focus to the Cali Cartel instead. As such, many things will be changing on the series, including its cast, and one character that fans have been wondering about in regards to if they’ll ever see him again is Boyd Holbrook’s Steve Murphy.
Given that the real Murphy returned to the United States shortly after his role in helping to bring down Escobar, having the character come back for season 3 was always questionable. Now, however, the actor has spoken up on the matter, confirming that he definitely won’t be making an appearance when Narcos hits Netflix again later this year.
