The Blade Runner franchise is continuing to expand. While director Jeremy Podeswa gears up to go into production on the Blade Runner 2099 series pilot for Amazon’s Prime Video, Annapurna Interactive has unveiled a teaser trailer for the video game Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth! The 2033 setting of this game puts it right in between the events of the original Blade Runner (which was set in 2019) and the sequel Blade Runner 2049. With the new Blade Runner Amazon series on the horizon, Annapurna Interactive has gotten in on the fun with the announcement of Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth, the first new video game set in the Blade Runner universe in 25 years (apart from Nightdive’s remaster of Westwood’s Blade Runner game from last year). Per Video Games Chronicle, the new title will be the first game to be developed by Annapurna’s own internal studio and will be directed by What Remains of Edith Finch director Chelsea Hash.
According to Annapurna, Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth will take place between the original film and its sequel, Blade Runner 2049. Not much has been revealed in terms of the plot, other than the game being set in a dystopian Los Angeles “after the Black Out hits”, and begs the question of what a Blade Runner is to do when there are no Replicants left to hunt.
