Gladiators came back with a bang to British TV screens on Saturday, making light work of ITV’s The Masked Singer.
In the latest line of UK TV reboots, the series in which members of the public take on the gladiators in challenges was watched by more than 6M viewers with a 38% share, comfortably becoming the BBC’s most-watched new show of the year and topping the weekend ratings chart.
Helmed by Bradley Walsh and son Barney, the hour-long show that aired from 5.50 p.m. GMT (9.50 a.m. Pt) peaked with 6.3M and comfortably beat ITV’s The Masked Singer, which is now into its fifth season and was watched by 3.7M from 7 p.m. GMT.
The rating would have been particularly frustrating for ITV as Gladiators aired on that channel for eight years and 13 seasons in the 1990s, making icons of its gladiators. It was briefly restarted by Sky One...

Holly Willoughby is ready to make her comeback on ITV’s Dancing On Ice after enduring a difficult 2023.
ITV has confirmed that Willoughby will present the next season of its celebrity ice skating competition series, with Stephen Mulhern replacing Phillip Schofield as co-host.
Commenting on Willoughby’s return to Dancing on Ice, Katie Rawcliffe, head of entertainment at ITV, said: “Holly and Stephen are two of our best-loved presenters, so reuniting them 20 years after they first appeared on screen together to host Dancing on Ice marks the start of an exciting year for the show.”
Willoughby has been on a break from presenting duties since October after a man was charged with a plot to kidnap and murder the British television star. Gavin Plumb denies the charges.

Following the news that longrunning gameshow “Deal or No Deal” – which has been commissioned in over 80 territories – is returning to Spain after a twelve-year hiatus, Banijay’s chief content officer Lucas Green spoke to Variety about the show’s endurance, Banijay’s creative strategy and why he disagrees that the NBC version of the show “objectified” the women who starred as its “briefcase models.”
Known locally as “¡Allá tú!,” the show, which first premiered in the Netherlands over two decades ago, is returning to Spanish screens for the first time since 2008. Earlier this year it was also revealed the series would be returning to the U.K. after a 7-year break, making 2023 something of a renaissance for the format.
While the U.K. version used ordinary people to reveal what was inside the briefcases, the U.S. version, which was hosted by Howie Mandel, featured a bevvy of glamorous women known as the “briefcase models.

Popular game show format “Deal or No Deal” is making a comeback on U.K. broadcaster ITV and streamer Itvx.
In the show, a contestant is confronted with 22 sealed boxes, each one hiding a different amount of money. Without knowing what each one contains, the contestant must eliminate the boxes, which are opened one at a time, and the amount of money inside is revealed. Pressure mounts as the player is tempted by the Banker to accept an offer of cash in exchange for what might be inside their box. As long as the larger cash prizes remain unchosen, the Banker’s offers will get higher. But that can all change in an instant if a big cash prize is unveiled.
The show will be hosted by Stephen Mulhern (“In for a Penny”) and produced by Banijay U.K.’s Remarkable Entertainment. It will be filmed at dock10 studios.

ITV is reportedly set to revive the popular game show Deal or No Deal.
The UK series, which originally aired from 2005 to 2016, was hosted by Noel Edmonds.
In the show, contestants had to choose from a selection of 22 boxes, each of which contain different cash amounts ranging from 1p to £250,000.
“The Banker” then offers them cash in exchange for what’s in their sealed box, with the offer fluctuating as the additional boxes are opened one by one.
ITV is said to have commissioned a reboot of the series, which originally aired on Channel 4.
Edmonds, however, will not feature in this new iteration. Instead, Britain’s Got More Talent presenter Stephen Mulhern will reportedly be assuming the role of host.
The 45-year-old TV personality is also a presenter on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway for the same channel, as well as game shows In For a Penny and Catchphrase.

ITV is reviving Deal or No Deal in the UK after a seven-year hiatus.
The commercial broadcaster has greenlit a full series after last year piloting the game show with Stephen Mulhern, presenter of Britain’s Got More Talent. The show will be produced by Remarkable, which is part of Banijay UK.
Deal or No Deal broadcast on Channel 4 for more than a decade before it was axed in 2016. The show was hosted by Noel Edmonds.
On Deal or No Deal, contestants play and deal for a cash prize by opening boxes containing varying amounts of cash. They are faced with a game of odds as they decide whether to accept an offer of cash from “the Banker” in exchange for what might be in their own box.

Ant and Dec have confirmed the reason they were forced to pull out of hosting duties for the new spinoff of Britain’s Got Talent.
The British duo were originally expected to present the new ITV talent show, Britain’s Got Talent: The Ultimate Magician.
However, a spokesperson for the series told MailOnline on Wednesday (12 October) that the two were “unable to film” after having become “unwell”.
Instead, they have been replaced by magician Stephen Mulhern.
A representative for the pair later informed The Sun that “Ant and Dec have tested for Covid and unfortunately have both tested positive” and “will be postponing work commitments whilst they recover”.
This also means that Ant McPartlin, 47, and Dec Donnelly, 46, will no longer be in attendance at Britain’s 27th National Television Awards on Thursday (13 October).

Soccer Aid for Unicef 2021, broadcast live and exclusively on ITV, Stv and the ITV hub this evening from the Etihad Stadium, has raised a record-breaking £13,014,769 so far for Unicef’s vital work keeping children around the world, happy, healthy and able to play.
Robbie Williams, Usain Bolt, David Beckham
This record-breaking amount was raised thanks to the generous support of the UK public, ITV and Stv viewers, and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (Ciff) who matched all public donations up to £6.3 million, meaning double the difference for children. This figure has smashed all previous records for money raised on the night.

Stephen Mulhern has revealed that he got in trouble with Simon Cowell - and it's all Digital Spy's fault.
Mulhern told The Sun that he got an earbashing from his Britain's Got Talent boss for joking that he had been offered the hosting job on The X Factor.
"I said during an interview, they asked me, 'If you were offered it, would you do it?' and I said, 'Well funnily enough I've already been offered it by Simon and I said no'," Mulhern revealed. "And then I went, 'I'm only joking'.
"Then it went into the press and Simon then contacted me saying, 'What are you doing?' So that was a joke that got out of hand!"
Well, we have to apologise to Mulhern because it was DS that asked him the question.
Whoops.

Amanda Holden has reflected on her affair with Neil Morrisey, and insisted that she's "never been naughty" during her current marriage.
Speaking to The Mirror, the Britain's Got Talent presenter commented that husband Chris Hughes "wears the trousers" in their relationship.
"Chris wears the trousers, but I choose them!" Holden joked. "I've never been naughty [pauses]… Well, apart from when I had the affair with Neil [Morrissey]. Apart from that, I was, and still am, a very good girl."

If Stephen Mulhern didn't know not to mess with Amanda Holden before today, he certainly does now.
The Catchphrase presenter got soaked with water by Holden for the second time in as many months during his appearance on This Morning.
Holden decided to throw caution to the wind to mark her final day covering Holly Willoughby's maternity leave.
Back in May, Holden soaked Mulhern with four glasses of water after he showed a picture of what she might look like in 20 years' time.
Asked about rumours he won't be back on Britain's Got More Talent next year, Mulhern replied: "Of course I'm coming back, it's the tenth year next year."
That was the moment Holden decided to remind viewers why rumours started about his future, chucking a glass of water over him and saying: "It wasn't because of this, was it?"

The Catchphrase presenter got soaked with water by Holden for the second time in as many months during his appearance on This Morning.

Amanda Holden threw water over Stephen Mulhern on her last day presenting 'This Morning'. The 44-year-old host - who's been fronting the ITV show alongside Phillip Schofield in the absence of regular host Holly Willoughby - recreated the drama of their on-screen spat on 'Britain's Got Talent' in May, when Stephen said Amanda looked like 74-year-old socialite Jocelyn Wildenstein. Asked if he was returning to do more 'Britain's Got More Talent', Stephen replied: ''Of course I'm coming back, it's the tenth year next year.'' Then, as she threw the water in Stephen's direction, Amanda said: ''It wasn't because of this, was it?...

Stephen Mulhern has signed on for another series of 'Britain's Got More Talent'. The 38-year-old presenter has agreed a deal with show boss Simon Cowell to return to the spin-off show and thinks the discussion was done early because the music mogul was so amused by the ''controversy'' the magician caused when he compared Amanda Holden to cosmetic surgery addict Jocelyn Wildenstein. He said: ''I'm all signed up for year 10. It's all sorted. I had an hour-and-a-half meeting with Simon last week and you never get that -- you get ten minutes if you're lucky! Stephen Mulhern will return to Britain's Got More Talent for a tenth series next year.
Speaking to The Sun, Mulhern confirmed that the deal is done - and revealed that it was thanks to his cheeky joke about Amanda Holden that saw him getting drenched with water.
Holden threw her drink over Mulhern after one of the live semi-finals this year when he compared her to 74-year-old socialite Jocelyn Wildenstein.

Stephen Mulhern has been suspended from The Magic Circle. The 'Britain's Got More Talent' presenter was stripped of his credentials by the magicians' organisation for showing the secrets of one trick on a kids TV show in a bid to encourage more young people to follow in his footsteps. He said: ''You have to be 18 to join the Magic Circle but at 17 I was told I could join and I thought it was amazing. ''I was doing a kids TV show called 'Finger Tips' with Fearne Cotton. Stephen Mulhern has revealed that he's currently in talks about hosting a new chat show similar in style to the The Late Late Show with James Corden.
The TV presenter, who returns to our TV screens with a new run of Catchphrase this Sunday (June 14), told Digital Spy that the UK has no such equivalent and he would love to create funny skits with celebrity guests.
Corden took over from Craig Ferguson and has been a huge success with audiences across the pond, partly due to his original comedy sketches with game A-listers.
"We're actually in talks about doing a new show - sort of similar to the James Corden show in the Us, because ITV2 don't have anything like that," Mulhern explained.
"Because Britain's Got More Talent does so well, and we have such a laugh in it, the idea is to try do something like that over here.

Britain's Got More Talent steps into scary territory this weekend when Simon Cowell begins to question whether David Walliams was a demonic child.
It all starts as a prank from host Stephen Mulhern, who had T-shirts printed with childhood photos of Cowell and Walliams emblazoned on them.
But Cowell is horrified when he sees what young David looked like, saying: "I really can't look at that. It's demonic... You know those movies about serial killers? And you see them as a child and you can see the evil in them. I'm not kidding, that's what it looks like."
Decide for yourself:
In case Walliams hasn't been humiliated enough, Mulhern asks him to phone a famous celebrity to help Bgmt's ratings and he offers to give Beyoncé a ring.
Unfortunately, it soon becomes clear that he's actually phoned his mum, who has a very interesting idea of a Beyoncé impression:

Britain's Got More Talent continues its apparent aim to humiliate David Walliams this weekend - as Simon Cowell reads out a list of the judge's diva demands.
Walliams can only stand and watch as Cowell reads out the rider to Bgmt host Stephen Mulhern, later expressing his disgust.
"I'm just disappointed, Stephen," Cowell says. "You know what, actually, just don't talk to him."
But just in case Walliams hadn't been humiliated enough, Mulhern pops him in a dog outfit for another instalment of David vs Dog.
This week, Walliams has to go head to head against Ashleigh & Pudsey to find out who is a better dancer - so will judges Stavros Flatley be more impressed by Ashleigh & Pudsey's 'Uptown Funk' routine or Walliams's dance to Sinitta's 'So Macho'?

(Our favourite bit is when he realises Simon might not be too happy with his jokes and looks around nervously to see if his boss is nearby.)

Elsewhere, Mulhern shuddered over a contortionist that left him feeling sick, Dixon told us all about a "Mr Bean"-style act, and Cowell vowed that Britain's Got Talent is "back on top form" - with "one of the best first episodes" that the show has ever had.

If there's one genre of TV that's ripe for poking, it has to be reality television.
Stephen Mulhern, Emma Willis and comedian Joel Dommett will be embracing this bonkers world in new ITV2 show Reality Bites.
The panel show sees host Stephen alongside team captains Emma and Joel dissecting reality TV - both from the UK and around the world.
With celebrities, TV stars and surprise guests, the teams will have to face rounds that see them watching clips from foreign reality shows and working out what's going on, and guessing the identity of a reality star using touch alone.
Before they recorded the show, Digital Spy went to ITV to meet Stephen and Emma to find out more...
Why did you want to be a part of Reality Bites?
Emma: I wanted to be involved because I only know about reality television! It's what we know, it's what we do.

Stephen Mulhern has said that ITV's Get Your Act Together hasn't got the reaction he wanted.
Speaking to Digital Spy about the celebrity skill show, the 37-year-old added that he would want to present a second series if it were commissioned.
Asked what he made of the reaction to the programme, Mulhern said: "It hasn't been wholly positive.
"And do you know what, if you don't try something new, then it's going to always be the same old, same old.
"Has it had the reaction I wanted? No, but what do you do?"
On whether he thinks there will be a second series, he replied: "I think if they protected it and gave it an earlier time slot then yes.
"And would I do it again? Absolutely. 100%."

Big Star's Little Star has been renewed for a third series by ITV.
Stephen Mulhern will be back to host another six episodes of the entertainment show, Broadcast reports.
Big Star's Little Star sees three celebrities and their children competing to win £15,000 for charity.
Details of which famous faces will be taking part in the new series have not yet been revealed, although Mulhern recently told Digital Spy that he was impressed by the calibre of contestants.
"In series one, people were like, 'Oh, I don't really know whether I want to come on the show'," he said. "In series two, you get a higher calibre of celebrity because they obviously trust series one.
"And now for series three, the celebrities that I've seen in emails that are coming on the show - you go, 'Wow, this is amazing, this is great'."

Sinitta will perform a pole dance in this weekend's episode of Get Your Act Together.
The 'So Macho' legend will don a sparkly leotard and learn from her mentor Bendy Kate before showing off her new-found skills to the studio audience on Sunday night's show.
Sinitta - who thought it was a joke when she was told she would be learning to pole dance - admitted that she has been suffering from some bruises on her bottom and "tender areas".
"The pole hurts," she said. "Imagine extreme rope burns along cold metal running across your flesh. I have been in really serious, horrible pain."
But she must have done well as host Stephen Mulhern recently told Digital Spy that she had surprised him the most, saying: "When you see this, it takes her to another league. You just think, 'Full respect to you', because I don't know many people who could do that.

There's clearly something in the water at ITV.
The past couple of weekends have seen the launch of two brand new programmes on the channel - circus skill, er, thing Get Your Act Together and an almost unrecognisable revamp of Stars in Their Eyes.
To put it very politely, neither have been received favourably by the public.
Get Your Act Together, presented by Stephen Mulhern, largely featured ex-Dancing on Ice contestants performing sub-par talents, while Stars in Their Eyes presenter Harry Hill has been criticised for ruining the original programme and tainting our '90s nostalgia by throwing baked goods around and doing silly skits.
So, to paraphrase Harry himself: Get Your Act Together vs Stars in Their Eyes - which is better?

We might not have Dancing on Ice anymore, but ITV's hoping to keep us entertained during the winter months with a brand new show! Get Your Act Together sees a whole host of celebrities teaming up with famous variety acts to learn their skills - and then trying to perform them to a live studio audience (who decide whether or not they get through).
The whole extravaganza is being hosted by Stephen Mulhern, so we got him on the phone to chat about acts that struggled, why he's always worried about shows going out, and how the studio audience surprised him...
"If you like Britain's Got Talent then you'll love Get Your Act Together. It's a combination of two things – the basic idea is that it's a speciality act from around the world who will then teach a celebrity what they do. Obviously the pressure is on the celebrity learning it,...
