Fan-favorite chef Giada De Laurentiis is exiting Food Network for Amazon Studios after two decades with the cooking channel. Giada's first show, Everyday Italian, premiered on Food Network in 2003. She has since starred in many other television shows, most notably Giada at Home, Giada in Italy, Giada Entertains, Giada's Holiday Handbook, and Simply Giada. She has served as a judge on shows such as Food Network Star, Beat Bobby Flay, and Tournament of Champions. Giada won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lifestyle Host in 2008 for Everyday Italian and for Outstanding Culinary Host in 2020 for Giada Entertains.

Through their partnerships with Dba, Amanda Stanton, Hannah Cortez, Mariam Daud, Lauren Singer, Nidal Kabashi, and Batul Bazzi will seek new opportunities while maintaining their popular channels on platforms like TikTok and Instagram.

Some of the new signees fall into the categories where Dba is most active. Kabashi, a rising star on TikTok, will have a place on Dba’s long list of clients in the fashion and beauty spaces. Giada De Laurentiis has struck a new content pact with Discovery’s Food Network, and will launch a new series, “Simply Giada,’ a new four-episode daytime program.

De Laurentiis will continue to produce programming for both Food Network and the parent company’s Discovery Plus streaming hub as part of the renewed pact.

Food Network has completed production on its first-ever scripted movie, “Candy Coated Christmas,” which won’t air on the linear cable channel but rather on Discovery Plus. The feel-good holiday movie features Ree Drummond, host of the cabler’s long-running “The Pioneer Woman.”

“Candy Coated Christmas” will mark the first original scripted movie to air on Discovery Plus. “The Talk” co-host Sheryl Underwood returned for her fifth time hosting the Daytime Emmy Awards, which honored the best programming airing between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. — along with select digital and syndicated shows.

“General Hospital” won the award for Outstanding Drama Series, while Kelly Clarkson won for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.

Daytime TV legends Regis Philbin, Alex Trebek and Larry King received posthumous tributes during the primetime ceremony, which aired Friday night at 8 p.m. Et on CBS and Paramount+.

The Talk co-host Sheryl Underwood returns to host the ceremony in Los Angeles for a fifth time.

They hybrid ceremony will feature talent and winners on the Emmy stage, at individual shows’ studios and at homes to accept their awards. A total of 22 categories will be presented on the broadcast, with other winners will be announced on Twitter (@DaytimeEmmys) beginning at 5 p.m. Et/2 p.m. Pt.

Tonight’s broadcast will also include posthumous tributes to Alex Trebek, Regis Philben and Larry King.

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is prepping for a return to normalcy in 2022, including a live, in-person Daytime Emmys at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. But that’s next year. For 2021, NATAS, CBS and producer Associated Television Intl. are putting together a pre-taped Daytime Emmys telecast that will still be a hybrid of studio segments, remote presentations and pre-submitted acceptance speeches.

“The Talk’s” Sheryl Underwood will serve as solo host of this year’s telecast, her fifth time emceeing the ceremony but the first on her own.

“She’s a great friend of daytime programming and a great friend of the Academy, so it just worked out,” says NATAS director Steve Ulrich. “In fact, if it’s not the record, then I think she’s certainly up there in terms of someone who has hosted our Daytime Emmys more than anyone else.”

Discovery Inc launched its streaming service, Discovery+, Monday. And while the new platform is debuting in an ever-crowded SVOD space, it’s coming ready to compete with a slew of original series available on Day 1.

Per Discovery, Discovery+ has “the largest-ever content offering of any new streaming service” at launch, including more than 50 original titles and over 150 hours of exclusive content,” like the preview of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Magnolia Network.

Discovery+ costs $4.99 per month with ads or $6.99 without ads.

Discovery has announced the launch of streaming service Discovery+, which brings together offerings from Discovery Channel, TLC, ID, Food Network, HGTV and other networks.

Featuring some 55,000 hours of programming, the service will go live in the U.S. on January 4, at a price of $5 a month with ads and $7 for an ad-free version. A partnership with Verizon will offer customers with select wireless and TV plans 12 months of Discovery+. The global rollout of Discovery+ across an initial 25 countries has already begun with India, the U.K. and Ireland. In June, two perennial Food Network shows, Guy Fieri’s “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” and Robert Irvine’s “Restaurant: Impossible,” went back into production. It was the first time either show shot on location since the coronavirus pandemic brought all television and film production to a dramatic halt in mid-March. They were filmed under strict, new Covid-19 protocols with reduced, mask-wearing crews — all of whom, according to Food Network, tested negative for coronavirus after filming was completed.

Courtney White, the president of Food Network and Cooking Channel, says the network agreed to restart production after creating specific plans for each show. “It isn’t one-size-fits-all,” White tells Variety. “But we did start with: Where can we film with the smallest footprint, the smallest crew — where everybody is very comfortable, and everybody’s on board? Obviously in this scenario, everybody feels different about their own personal willingness to step out of their house.

The Daytime Emmys completed its third and final pandemic-delayed ceremony on Sunday night, with Amazon Prime Video, HBO and Netflix all landing six wins in the various children’s, lifestyle and animation awards handed out, while Disney Channel and sister network Disney Junior combined for a total of nine wins.

Another round of winners for the 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards were unveiled Sunday night as the ceremony handed out trophies honoring Children’s, Lifestyle, and Animation programming. The ceremony also paid tribute to Regis Philbin, who passed away this weekend, by sharing his acceptance speech for the Lifetime Achievement Award he received at the 42nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2008.

Hosted by Loni Love, the virtual ceremony follows last week’s event which honored the best in Digital Dramas with Amazon’s The Bay, After Forever and Studio City walking away as big winners. During the livestream, winners accepted their Emmys from the comfort of their own homes — or wherever they are in quarantine.

The long-running series “Sesame Street” got a 50th birthday present at the 2020 Daytime Emmys for children’s, animated and lifestyle programs, which streamed on Sunday night, July 26, during a live ceremony hosted remotely by Loni Love (“The Real”) due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. “Street” won Best Preschool Children’s Program, as it has done many times before. “Sesame Street’s” 50th season also won awards for Best Directing for a Children’s/Young Adult Program, Best Principal Performance in a Daytime Program (Ryan Dillon for the 50th anniversary special) and Best Short Format Children’s Program for “Sesame Street in Communities: Meet Salia.” At this year’s main Daytime Emmy telecast on June 26, “Sesame Street” also won Best Special Class Special for its anniversary celebration.

Food Network has ordered another helping of Amy Schumer’s quarantine cooking show, “Amy Schumer Learns to Cook.”

The self-shot series features Schumer and her husband Chris Fischer, a James Beard Award-winning chef. Their nanny and part-time camera operator, Jane, along with their son and dog will continue to make appearances as well.

The Young and the Restless followed with 21, while The Bold and the Beautiful managed 13.

The Kelly Clarkson Show, which only premiered last fall, put up a strong showing, securing seven total nominations (the most of any entertainment talk show). The noms included Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show and Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host.

In a somewhat surprising move, Dr. Oz (the show and the talk show host) were completely left out for the first time in a decade.

The long-running daytime series “General Hospital,” “Days of Our Lives” and “The Young and the Restless” led all programs in nominations for the 47th annual Daytime Emmy Awards, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced on Thursday.

ABC’s “General Hospital” had 23 nominations to lead the field, followed closely by NBC’s “Days of Our Lives” with 22 and CBS’ “The Young and the Restless” with 21. The only other program to hit double digits in nominations was CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” with 13.

Those four shows were the nominees in the Outstanding Drama Series category, with Outstanding Digital Drama Series consisting of “After Forever,” “The Bay the Series,” “Dark/Web,” “Eastsiders” and “Studio City.”

Discovery has whipped up its most ambitious U.S. subscription-streaming concoction to date — Food Network Kitchen, which the company promises will be as useful to home cooks as it is entertaining.

Set to launch in October, Food Network Kitchen will offer a lineup of 25 weekly live, interactive cooking shows — including some led by celeb chefs Bobby Flay, Rachael Ray, Giada De Laurentiis and Guy Fieri — as well as over 800 on-demand instructional videos, 80,000 recipes, culinary-related original programming and select shows from Food Network’s library.

The service, to be priced starting at $6.99 per month, is built for utility: It will let subscribers order ingredients for specific recipes from online-grocery services (and eventually cooking supplies) and in 2020 will add a 24-hour culinary helpline for subscribers to get tips and tricks from live experts.

Popular chef Giada De Laurentiis has signed a new deal that will keep her at Discovery Inc.’s Food Network in months to come.

The deal, characterized as “multi-year,” will consist of projects in primetime and daytime and across various media platforms, and calls for new episodes of shows such as “Giada Entertains,” “Giada’s Holiday Handbook” and “Ultimate Thanksgiving Challenge,” as well as short-form video content, the cable network said Wednesday.

“Giada De Laurentiis is a culinary icon and a Food Network fan-favorite whose recipes and entertaining guidance are a must-have for home cooks everywhere looking to elevate their own gatherings and celebrations,” said Courtney White, president of Food Network, in a statement. “We are excited to serve up even more entertaining and inspiring hours with Giada for seasons to come.”
