Lorde covers the Talking Heads’ cover of Al Green’s “Take Me to the River” for the latest single in A24’s all-star tribute to Stop Making Sense.
In addition to the Solar Power singer’s faithful rendition of the More Songs About Buildings and Food classic, Lorde also shared a lengthy letter about her first time hearing the Talking Heads and why that band is important to her.

Blondshell, the songwriting project of Sabrina Tietelbaum (and Consequence’s 2023 Rookie of the Year), has teamed up with Bully for a brand new single, “Docket.” Stream the new tune below.
Doubling down on the alt-rock vibes that pervaded Blondshell’s self-titled debut, “Docket” finds the artist connecting with Bully (the indie rock project of Alicia Bognanno) to spin a tale of self-examination, presenting the perspective of someone who exhibits less-than-healthy behavior when it comes to their relationship.
“Isn’t it wrong/ When I’m gone/ I look around at the options/ I put men on the docket,” Tietelbaum sings over driving power chords and saturated drums. “He should be with someone who’s more in love/ Not someone eating for free/ My worst nightmare is me.” At least they’re honest!
“I had space on this song for another person and I kept hearing Bully’s voice on it,” Tietelbaum said in a statement.

Towards the end of her song “Amelia,” Samia walks into a party. “I’m writing a poem, somebody stop me,” she sings over balmy synths and a chirpy beat. It’s less of an actual threat and more a self-aware quip from the 27-year-old musician who’s better than almost anyone at turning fleeting moments into poetry.
“I love romanticizing shit, and I always have,” Samia says. “I was an internally dramatic child. There’s something really powerful and something that feels like protest sometimes in writing [my thoughts] down in a song.

Soccer Mommy, Olivia Rodrigo, and now, Blondshell: The girlies love Sheryl Crow. Sabrina Teitelbaum is the latest young artist to cover the legendary singer-songwriter thanks to a new Amazon Original rendition of “If It Makes You Happy.” Check it out below.
With grungy guitar verses and an unimpeachable chorus melody, there’s an obvious throughline between Crow’s 1996 hit and the feisty indie pop that Blondshell broke through with earlier this year. The singer-songwriter shared her love of Crow’s music in a statement.

Blondshell’s self-titled era isn’t over yet. Come October 6th, Sabrina Teitelbaum will issue a digital deluxe edition of her debut full length, which she’s previewed with the new song “Street Rat.” Check it out below.
Originally released in April, Blondshell channeled the indie rock of the 1990s with modern flourishes courtesy of producer Yves Rothman. The promising LP featured “Salad,” the best song of 2023 (so far), and earned Teitelbaum the chance to open up for Liz Phair on her upcoming tour.
The deluxe edition expands Blondshell from nine tracks to 14, featuring the new songs “Street Rat,” “Tarmac 2,” and “It Wasn’t Love,” as well as a demo version of “Kiss City” and the previously released standalone single “Cartoon Earthquake.” Today’s melancholy offering features über fuzzed out guitar as the artist realizes she probably has a problem with a substance. “Wouldn’t feed that to a street rat,...

Samia has tapped Maya Hawke to cover “Honey,” the title track to her album released earlier this year. Listen to Hawke’s take on the song below.
“Honey” was already a pretty sparse song, with muted guitar quickly strummed over Samia’s daydreaming about a carefree weekend. But Hawke’s rendition really leans into the sadness at the heart of the track, reissuing that guitar melody with fuzzy keys and an even more vulnerable vocal.
Samia examined Hawke’s cover of “Honey” in a statement. “When we were recording ‘Honey’ for the album we added this ironic depth by turning what was originally a painful song into a kind of campfire sing along — big bouncy guitars, a happy melody, that endless refrain,” she explained. “So I was eager to hear what Maya would do with it. Surprisingly, she stripped all of the campfire away. In her version you can hear...

Track by Track is a recurring feature series in which artists guide readers through every song on their latest release. Today, Blondshell walks us through her upcoming self-titled debut.
Indie rock artist Blondshell, also known as Sabrina Teitelbaum, has shared an exclusive breakdown of each song on her debut self-titled album one day ahead of its release on April 7th.
On the debut effort, the Los Angeles-based songwriter crafts an organic portrait of herself. Teitelbaum spent years exploring her identity as an artist in the realm of pop before settling on a grunge-inspired record full of forthright observation and reflection. Blondshell is a project rooted in self-discovery, both musically and in terms of the individual growth reflected throughout the album.
Teitelbaum’s ruminations on love, loneliness, and identity capture the tumultuous nature of late adolescence. The track “Dangerous” reflects on Teitelbaum’s experience with social anxiety and how it impacted...

Ahead of the release of her self-titled debut this Friday, Blondshell stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to debut a new song called “Salad.” Watch her performance on the show below, then scroll onward for the single’s official recording.
“Salad” begins with a twinkling, almost toy-sounding piano, but the track quickly grows ominous as heavy strings and militant drums open the door for Blondshell to sing her own revenge fantasy. “Keep an eye out for his pickup/ I know all about it/ I would take a gun, I’ll put some poison in his salad,” she sings. “It wouldn’t be so bad, it wouldn’t hurt the world/ Look what you did, you’ll make a killer of a Jewish girl.”
The track comes from a long line of women who use music to imagine an abuser, absolved of his crimes, see justice. With an explosive,...

On Thursday evening, Rolling Stone’s Future of Music Showcase was the place to be — and not just because it took place inside while storms were wreaking havoc elsewhere at SXSW. The third night of the event at Acl Live at the Moody Theater was all over the place in an excellent way, a women-led lineup that bounded from alt-rock to wildly fun punk to satisfying R&b to Day-Glo alt-pop, and lots more.
Blondshell, the alt-rock project of L.A-based Sabrina Teitelbaum, stood out from the night’s other...
