Watching a newly-in-love George Jones (Michael Shannon) and Tammy Wynette (Jessica Chastain) perform together at a bar, country music producer Billy Sherrill (David Wilson Barnes) takes in the crowd’s rapturous reaction.
“Look at how they look at them,” he remarks to songwriter George “Rich” Richey (Steve Zahn) beside him. “George and Tammy are every man who ever loved a woman, and every woman who ever loved a man.” Rich suggests it’s “just poetry,” but Billy sees something else. “Not poetry. Commerce,” he says, adding only after a pause: “And poetry too, I suppose.”
It’s true the two are inextricably linked in Showtime’s George & Tammy, which charts a relationship in which the tumultuous romance fed the chart-topping music, and vice versa. But it’s the first part of Billy’s statement that truly gets to the heart of the series.

The long and winding journey to get "George & Tammy" to the small screen has undergone one final detour before the premiere date for the limited series. Originally conceived as a feature film for Fox Searchlight years back, which is when actor Jessica Chastain first became attached to the project, the dramatization of famous country music singers George Jones and Tammy Wynette eventually landed as a Spectrum Original that would eventually air on the Paramount+ streaming service. That release plan has changed once again, however, as Variety reports that "George & Tammy" will now move to Showtime.
Starring Michael Shannon as George Jones alongside Chastain as Tammy Wynette, "George & Tammy" is set to debut simultaneously -- and commercial-free -- on both Showtime and Paramount Network. The rest of the six-episode drama will then air exclusively on Showtime every Sunday. But that's not all. New episodes will also be made available to stream...

Perry Mason Episode 5
Perry Mason episode 5, “Chapter Five,” delivers what viewers expecting the classic series were waiting to see happen. The scruffy private investigator who has maintained a three-day stubble for five weeks cleans up and gets an education, not necessarily in that order.
The first cleanup is actually done by Della Street (Juliet Rylance). “Chapter Four” ended with the suicide of E.B. Jonathan, esteemed but broken attorney at law. That act began almost imperceptibly at the start of the episode, as John Lithgow, who plays E.B., masterfully allowed his wounds to bleed out long before he turned on the oven, blew out the burners, and said a long goodnight to the hummingbirds. Perry Mason (Matthew Rhys) sits on the threshold of ethics and has no problem turning the suicide into something more insurance friendly. He knows the difference between what’s legal and what’s right.

Perry Mason Episode 4
Perry Mason’s “Chapter Four” is a long denouement for the Emily Dodson (Gayle Rankin) legal team. The woman who has been accused of, at the very least, conspiring to aid in the kidnapping which led to the death of her child, is running out of options. The entire episode shows her falling through every loophole laid out for her, except of course, the ones that Perry Mason (Matthew Rhys) employs to circumvent the law.
John Lithgow can really elicit sympathy. Stephen Root’s district attorney Maynard Barnes is relishing his every courtroom punch, and E.B. gets the emotional wind knocked out of him several times. Every time it looks like E.B. Jonathan has something tangible which can help his client, even a little bit, small implosions happen in different parts of his body as they are taken away.

The Son Season 2 Episode 7
Everything I wrote in my review of last week's episode was wrong. I don't regret it. I take nothing back. It appeared Eli McCullough was losing his grip on a situation we know should never have spiraled away as it did into the very steering wheel which drove it. But the very opening scene of tonight's episode shows he hasn't lost his grip on anything, especially the scalp of the businessman he only moments before praised with a well-placed "well played." I was equally wrong about the episode from two weeks ago being the best of the season. The Son, season 2, episode 7, "Somebody Get a Shovel," is a new high. Scene after scene builds tension on top of tension,...

Eli McCullough (Pierce Brosnan) shows the first cracks in the armor which has protected him his whole life. His many lives, if you count how many times he's survived seemingly insurmountable wounds. The episode shows he's not as self-sufficient as he's let on. A stronger force has been propping him up since his days as a Comanche, and it is sobering to see Eli so nakedly needy. Although the first season of The Son TV show did all right for a non-zombie AMC TV series, it was followed by a two-year hiatus. When the long-awaited second season premiere was finally announced, the cable network also revealed this was the end of the hunt -- there would be no season three. Since viewers already know it is effectively cancelled (i.e. ending), will that affection Nielsen ratings for The Son? Stay tuned.

This is the first fantasia we've witnessed from Eli where imagines himself as the victim. Usually when the patriarch of the McCullough family is fantasizing, he is the victimizer. Is the second and final season of The Son TV show on AMC a proper send-off for the series? In the Lone Star State of The Son season 2, episode 2, legends can be bought for "Ten Dollars and a Plucked Goose."
This The Son review contains spoilers.
The Son Season 2 Episode 2
In The Son, season 2, episode 2, "Ten Dollars and a Plucked Goose," the McCulloughs serve up a Christmas feast and the jackals show up. The family is well known in the town. The story of the First Son of Texas, the Colonel, is already becoming local myth, at odds with the realities behind it.
The opening sequence is fraught with contradictions. Eli McCullough (Pierce Brosnan) tells a gathered crowd how happy he is that his son, Pete (Henry Garrett), is home safe after fighting so bravely against enemies of the area. Pete wriggles around uncomfortably. We know it's not just that he's humble. He's got secrets. Everyone on The Son has secrets, but his are glaringly close to the surface.

The Son season 2 shows the ruthlessness of family legacy without missing the tender spots.

The Son Season 2 picks up a few years after the events of the first. Pete McCullough (Henry Garrett) has been on a Mexican chain gang after helping María García (Paola Núñez) cross the border after a land grab left her the sole survivor of her family, the McCullough family taking possession of everything they owned. The Son Season 2's Pierce Brosnan tips his ten-gallon hat to fellow Western stars and Texas TV icons in this exclusive interview.
Everyone wants to be remembered, and not just for the bad stuff they’ve done, a character admitted on the first season of The Son. In the Western genre of movies and film, cowboys have committed many memorable misdeeds, sometimes in order to rustle the deeds from rivals. The patriarch of AMC's multi-generational epic Western series The Son committed all these crimes and more to amass his fortune and stature. Born on the same day his state became a republic, “The First Son of Texas,” Eli McCullough came a long way on a hard road. Kidnapped by Comanches when he was a child, he was raised by the tribe in the wild and brought ruthless survival skills to his role as a businessman and pioneer frontiersman.

AMC’s martial arts drama Into the Badlands will end after the upcoming final eight episodes of its third season, which will debut March 24. The network also has set an April 24 premiere date for Season 2 of drama The Son, starring Pierce Brosnan, which will be its last.
Neither cancellation is particularly surprising. Both Into the Bandlands and The Son were renewed for Season 3 and Season 2, respectively, almost two years ago. Into the Badlands’ 16-episode third season was completed awhile ago, the cast was released, and a number of them have taken on new acting gigs. As for The Son, as a Western, it did draw respectable viewership though it was old-skewing. Additionally, I hear star Brosnon only had signed a short-term contract which is the case with many movie stars who do TV series these days.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for the “Halt and Catch Fire” series finale — Season 4, Episode 9, “Search,” and Episode 10, “Ten of Swords.”]
There aren’t a lot of TV shows that could get away with ending on a Peter Gabriel song — especially “Solsbury Hill” — but then there aren’t a lot of shows like “Halt and Catch Fire.” From the second the familiar strumming started, tears flowed and the question of how AMC’s one-of-a-kind drama series would end was answered: It ended as it began, literally and figuratively.
In a callback to the first episode, Joe MacMillan (Lee Pace) walks in front of a classroom and says, “Let me start by asking a question.” Anyone who remembers the pilot episode knows that question will be, “How many of you desire to be computer engineers?” And perhaps Joe is hoping to see the next generation of Cameron Howe (Mackenzie Davis) walk in, plop down in the back row, and impress him. Or maybe he’s hoping the real Cameron will show up,...

Jessica Chastain headlines Miss Sloane, which will hopefully make more of a splash in the UK than it made in the Us...
The Us release of Miss Sloane came in the same month as the 2016 presidential election finally came to pass, and perhaps it's only down to a general exasperation with politics that it has been so overlooked. The absurdity of the news has only been compounded over the six months that it's taken to arrive in UK cinemas, but it's testament to how well executed the film is that this story of corruption and skullduggery in Washington DC still seems remarkable.
The film centres on Elizabeth Sloane (Jessica Chastain), a ruthless lobbyist who has been hauled in to plead the Fifth in front of an ethics committee (chaired by John Lithgow's pompous senator), and the three months that led to these proceedings. Miss Sloane has quite the reputation in Washington,...
