Fresh off Friday’s release of his $10 Cowboy — and ahead of his Stagecoach set tonight — Charley Crockett visited CBS Mornings’ Saturday Sessions to perform three tracks from his latest album.

“All roses!” Charley Crockett replies when asked how he’s doing. The songwriter says he picked up the phrase on tour after hearing a gas-station attendant use it and is currently writing a song with that title. Crockett, a thrilling live performer who can transport country fans to lonesome highways or dusty Western towns with his observational lyrics, is always writing while on the road. His new album $10 Cowboy, released April 26, was birthed almost entirely on the go.

Paramount has a new offer on the table, but Shari Redstone might not even get out of bed for this one. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that private equity firm Apollo Global Management (also an investor in “Dune” studio Legendary Entertainment) offered Paramount Global $11 billion for its film and TV studio.
The specifics of exactly which assets Apollo wants to buy (and not buy) are unclear, but the film and TV studios would include Paramount Pictures and the production capabilities at networks like CBS and MTV. Linear networks would stay behind, as well as distribution platforms like Paramount+ and BET+.
Also unknown is if the iconic Paramount lot is part of the offer, which houses so much of Paramount’s studio production. When reached by IndieWire, a Paramount Global rep had no comment. Reps for Apollo did not return a request for comment.

For audiences of a certain age, it might be amusing, or maybe even disappointing, when, early in “The Ballad of Davy Crockett,” the eponymous hero skins a raccoon to fashion a bandage for a serious leg wound, rather than to make a hat of the sort famously worn by Fess Parker when he played the character in enduringly popular Disney miniseries and movie spin-offs. Maybe this is writer-director Derek Estlin Purvis’ way of winking at the audience. Or, more likely, it’s his way of letting us know from the get-go that this will not be your father’s King of the Wild Frontier.
William Moseley (“The Chronicles of Narnia”) is effectively earnest as the legendary frontiersman in Purvis’ leisurely paced but sporadically exciting historical drama, which focuses on the period when Crockett, then a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Tennessee, became an outspoken critic of...

Updated: There has been another round of content removal from Disney+, this time in the Emea region, which consists of Europe, the Middle East and Africa. More than 120 titles have been taken off this week, primarily Disney Channel original movies and vintage Disney live-action films, as well as a few series, including Zeke and Luther, Pepper Ann, So Random and the first three seasons of Nat Geo’s Genius and ESPN/Nat Geo docs.
According to sources, the takedowns were a result of a library title review. There have been several content purges at Disney+ over the last year amid cost-cutting, most notably the removal of a slew of original series last May.
Here is a list of movie titles that are said to be gone from Disney+ in Emea, compiled by Drew Ryan.

Bill Hayes, a longtime star of the NBC soap opera “Days of Our Lives,” died Friday at the age of 98.
Hayes played the character of Doug Williams on the daytime serial since 1970, five years after the show’s debut. He met his real-life wife, actress Susan Seaforth, on the series set in the fictional Illinois town of Salem.
Hayes and Seaforth were married in 1974. Two years later, their characters were married on the show. The same year, the pair also appeared on the cover of Time magazine in a cover story on the popularity of daytime soaps.
“I have known Bill for most of my life and he embodied the heart and soul of ‘Days of our Lives,’ ” said executive producer Ken Corday. “Although we are grieving and will miss him, Bill’s indelible legacy will live on in our hearts and the stories we tell, both on and off the screen.

It’s been a long wait for NBC’s Chicago Med to return with its 9th Season but with the premiere less than a week away (January 17), Deadline has some juicy nuggets to tease about the show’s return.
In the Season 8 finale, the medical drama said goodbye to Day 1-er Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) who handed in his resignation after finding himself more and more unsettled with the new changes implemented at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center following Jack Dayton’s purchase of the hospital. His main concern was Dayton’s insistence on using the O.R. 2.0. even after a machine error caused the death of a patient and could’ve also claimed Dayton’s life.
Dayton’s live surgery for investors cost him nearly all his money after showing the high-tech machine wasn’t ready for showtime. So to stay afloat financially, Dayton sells the hospital.

Starting with 1981’s Thief — the opening moments of which feature James Caan’s tough guy ex-con Frank driving a Cadillac Eldorado through the rain-soaked Chicago streets at night — cars have always played an indelible role in Michael Mann’s films, establishing the tone and acting as framing devices for his characters and a way into their psyche.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Mann spoke about the prominent role that cars have played in his movies over his four-decade career. The reason? “It’s not cars because I like cars,” he notes. It’s about adding a certain subtext to a character’s motivation and Mann’s influence — the way he literally changed the visual poetics of cars on film — dates back to Thief, his first feature.

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are facing scrutiny from House Democrats over the spread of rampant abortion misinformation on Facebook, Instagram, and X (formerly Twitter).
A pair of letters issued by Democrats on the House Oversight Committee, obtained exclusively by Rolling Stone, demand that Musk’s and Zuckerberg’s platforms take “immediate action to combat the spread of abortion misinformation,” and request that the companies deliver briefings to Congress on the matter by December 14.
The letters’ signatories, led by Ranking Member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), point out that alongside the continued onslaught of post-Roe v.

It’s been more than two years since Lionsgate announced a potential spinoff of the Starz brand from its studio business. And it’s been nearly 14 months since the company realized the studio is where the money is and decided to sell that instead.
What changed? Well, for starters, on March 17, 2022 Amazon purchased MGM for $8.5 billion. Around the same time, Netflix executives were preparing to announce their first subscriber loss in a decade. Suddenly, streaming wasn’t invincible — and most of it wasn’t profitable.
Plus, frankly, no one wanted Starz — certainly not at Lionsgate’s internal valuation. There was a time when Starz’s 30 million global subscribers would be enticing enough to the grow-or-die streamers chasing Netflix. That ship sailed, along with Netflix’s perpetual user gains.
Fortunately, Lionsgate had one more trick up its sleeve in the continuing mission to unlock shareholder value. The “For Sale” sign is...

Fans of HBO original series The Gilded Age have been waiting patiently since March 2022 to find out what happens next in the battle between New York’s Old Money and Nouveau Riche.
Season two continues the ensemble format established in season one by centering the storylines of the Van Rhijins and Russells plus the stories of their respective household members. Peggy Scott’s plotline takes a deeper look into African-American society beyond the city. There’s also a new cast of guest stars and supporting characters creating tension for our established characters.
Season one left off with George Russell (Morgan Spector) successfully avoiding financial ruin because of the railroad accident. This season, George’s employees are growing frustrated with working long hours in the steel mills while George is concerned that the possibilities of strikes and boycotts will cost him his own livelihood and those who depend on his railroad company for theirs.

Netflix’s stock is again north of $400 per share and this time it may be to stay. The streamer revealed surprisingly good third-quarter results October 18, revving up investors and Wall Street’s media analysts.
“Netflix is definitely back,” Jesse Cohen, a senior analyst at Investing.com declared in an email to IndieWire. “The company is firing on all cylinders and subscribers are once again flocking to the streaming service.”
Netflix added nearly 9 million subscribers from July to September, millions more than anticipated, and “better than fine” in the words of Wells Fargo’s Steven Cahall. The streamer also announced a price hike that takes immediate effect on certain ad-free tiers and the market rewarded Netflix with a double-digit increase in share value.

Disney linear channels went dark for Spectrum (Charter) customers last week. If and when they come back, the whole game may be forever changed.
Typically, carriage disputes are the boring, semi-annual battles in which distributors try to get more money from the cable providers who carry their product. The push, pull, and posturing usually includes the distributor threatening to go dark and remove the channels; sometimes, as in this case, that actually happens. Currently, Disney-owned network ABC and cable channels ESPN, Freeform, the Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney Xd, National Geographic, FX, Fxx, FX Movie Channel, and Nat Geo Wild are unavailable to 14.7 million Spectrum subscribers.
This is where the narrative starts to get weird: Charter has already agreed to pay Disney its market-price increase. But in return, it wants to offer ad-supported Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu to its Spectrum customers — for free.
The Charter argument comes down to this:...
