An old summer fling is reignited in the new trailer for Tessa Thompson’s “Sylvie’s Love,” which premieres Christmas Day on Amazon Prime Video.
Thompson plays the titular character, a young woman eager to succeed at her TV job. When a man named Robert (Nnamdi Asomugha) takes on a part-time gig at the record store her father owns, the two soon develop a bond unlike any they’ve experienced before.
As Sylvie nabs a position as a producer’s assistant and Robert’s jazz career begins to take off, they find themselves headed down different paths. But all the changes don’t affect their feelings for one another as they come face to face during a chance encounter.
“I guess I just wanted you to be happy, even if I couldn’t be a part of your life,” Asomugha’s character says in the trailer.
Their relationship is further complicated by Sylvie’s fiancé,...

“Sylvie’s Love,” a sweeping period romance starring Tessa Thompson, has sold to Amazon Studios out of this year’s Sundance film festival, sources close to the deal told Variety.
The sale, brokered by Endeavor Content on behalf of the filmmakers, closed in the high seven-figure range, insiders added. “Sylvie’s Love’ marks Amazon’s third acquisition at the festival, alongside Alan Ball’s “Uncle Frank” and Phyllida Lloyd’s “Herself.” It’s unclear if Amazon intends to take the title out theatrically.
Directed by Eugene Ashe, the film follows two love birds (Thompson and Nnamdi Asomugha) through a turbulent decade set to the sounds of 1960s jazz.
“They don’t make ’em like this any more, innocent and escapist and scrubbed clean of contact with real grubby life. But then, given the poor history of black representation in the Hollywood movies of the Golden Age, ‘they’ never really did,” wrote...

Run for Your Lives returned to the Southern California area, bringing with it a horde of zombies hungry for flags and armies of runners eager to zip through the 5k obstacle course.
The event works like this: A runner is equipped with three red flags that are strapped around his/her waist. The zombes populating the 5k course are out to get those flags. If a runner hits the finish line with at least one flag, they're a survivor. No flags? Their infected.
Much like last year, I hit the course - this time with my dear friend Bobbi Sue Luther (producer and former actress of Night of the Demons, Laid to Rest) - with a GoPro camera and running gear, provided by New Balance. After the jump, check out a highlight reel of the event. Do we come out on the other side survivors?

After spending most of the past decade cranking out awful horror remakes, it's reasonable to expect filmmakers to figure out what makes the original films such fan favorites. Yet, with one exception, studios keep mucking things up and the remake of Night of the Demons is no exception.
The film opens with a flashback to 1920's New Orleans, as a well dressed woman hangs herself off the balcony of the Broussard mansion, rather than be captured by a demon possessed gentleman. Perhaps hanging is too weak a term, as the rope appears to be woven out of piano wire and pops the poor lady's head clean off her shoulders. A bit over the top, but the physical effect is well executed and the flashback,...

Another Halloween, another direct to video horror movie that's probably better than 90% of what you're going to see in the theaters this month. Night Of The Demons, directed by Adam Gierasch (Autopsy), is a remake of the 1988 film of the same name (which eventually spawned two sequels of steadily decreasing entertainment value). The original starred 80's scream darling Linnea Quigley, who bared her breasts and entrails at every opportunity back when I was a lad. She was a delight, I tell you. The original film was completely idiotic, disgustingly tacky, and absolutely hilariously bad. It was a staple of mine as a young boy, and, well, might explain a few things about me today.
As is my wont, I digress. Kindly suck it.
Gierasch's remake isn't much better, but then, it's not supposed to be. Shot in 2009 with the intention of being a Halloween theatrical release, it was dumped into...

Whoever thought that constantly remaking these cheesy '80s teen horror films, using a cast of thirty-something, D-List actors was is good idea, obviously has more optimism than creativity. This low-budget remake of Night of the Demons is a mess on so many levels, we can only wonder why someone wasted their whole weekend making this film. Assuming it took that long.
The original Night of the Demons was no masterpiece to begin with, although it had enough of a cult following to earn two awful sequels. Why we needed to revisit this unimaginative story is a bigger mystery than the motivations of the titular demons. If schlock-meister Adam Gierasch, the writer-director of this cinematic suppository, had managed to improve on the first film, then an argument could be made for the existence of this ridiculous retread. Alas, Gierasch only manages to turn '80s mediocrity into modern manure.

This week sees a ton of genre movies coming out on DVD and Blu- Ray. The biggest being Predators, followed up by the remake of the cult classic Night of the Demons, a sequel to Mirrors, and Anniversary editions for Rocky Horror Picture Show and Psycho. Add to that a slew of indie and classic horror and there is a lot to choose from.
Predators
Directed by Nimród Antal
Robert Rodriguez presents Predators, a bold new chapter in the Predator universe. Adrien Brody stars as Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors mysteriously brought together on a jungle planet. But when these cold-blooded human “predators” find themselves in all-out war against a new breed of alien Predators, it’s the ultimate showdown between hunter and prey. Predators also star Laurence Fishburne, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Walton Goggins, Danny Trejo, Mahershalalhashbaz Ali, Oleg Taktarov, and Louis Ozawa Changchien.

The number of home video releases on October 19th is not as abundant as in recent weeks, and fewer re-released titles means those that are available are much more special. In this batch one Adrien Brody flick competes with another, and at least two independent horror titles are making a splash. Two beloved classic films return in Blu-ray where one is supplemented by a documentary treatment of it.
Also, don't forget to strum & drum out with some tunes from Rob Zombie on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Finally, foreign horror gives us an over-the-top Japanese gorefest, a British zombie flick where the $70 budget was spent on tea and biscuits for the zombies, and Norwegian black metal.

Yet another remake comes to us. Instead of something that everyone is familiar with like "A Nightmare On Elm Street" or "Friday The 13th" this time, it's the twisted '80's horror flick "Night of the Demons."Maddie (Monica Keena) and her friends Suzanne (Bobbi Sue Luther) and Lily (Diora Baird) are headed to a Halloween party. Not just any party, mind you, but one that takes place at the Broussard Mansion. Supposedly, people went missing many years earlier and the owner of the mansion hung herself. It's said to be haunted.Anyway, the girls...

I don't know - I haven't seen it yet. But the co-screenwriter, Jace Anderson, has a few concerns over some of the dialogue she's written.
On her blog, Jace Anderson writes that when she first showed the script to some of her colleagues to get an opinion, what she seemed to hear frequently about her female characters is, “It’s not realistic. Women don’t talk to each other that way. This scene shouldn’t even be in there.”
The scene to which she is referring is one in which women discuss getting a Brazilian bikini wax while knocking back a few drinks. The film stars Tiffany Shepis, Bobbi Sue Luther, Monica Keena, Shannon Elizabeth and Diora Baird. I will bet it is Tiffany Shepis who says the dirtiest things during that conversation.
Now, I know for a fact that when I watch an episode of Sex and the City...

The official trailer for the upcoming release of Night of the Demons has hit the net, and we have it embedded below for your viewing pleasures. Watch this one at home, though, as it is strictly Nsfw!
This remake of the classic 1988 film was done by husband and wife horror movie making team Adam and Jace Gierasch. In it, a Halloween party kicks off at the old Broussard Mansion, where 80 years prior six people mysteriously disappeared while the mansion's owner, Evangeline Broussard, committed suicide by hanging. The evening's festivities get pretty wild, though soon enough people find that the mansion is also home to a collection of ancient demons who wish to break free of their prison - and need lives, blood, and souls in order to do so.
The trailer contains good mixture of cheesy 80's style partying and demonic monster mayhem, including blood, boobs, and shrieking skull faces.
