Stagecoach is known for its surprises and, on Friday night, Eric Church delivered one of the most unexpected sets in the California country music festival’s history. The question facing fans is, was it a good surprise or a bad one?
Church hadn’t headlined Stagecoach since 2016 and is currently in the midst of a 19-show residency at his Nashville bar Chief’s that finds him getting up-close and candid with fans and testing out new songs. When he appeared on the Mane Stage at 9:45 p.m. to the...

Elvis Presley inspired numerous songs and one of the most famous is Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet.” The track has a sensual vibe that made it a huge hit and an instant classic. The original version of the song was very different. During an interview, Myles explained the secret ingredient that made “Black Velvet” climb up the charts.
Alannah Myles’ Elvis Presley tribute ‘Black Velvet’ was supposed to sound ‘clunky’
“Black Velvet” is a smokey, old-school song that blurs the line between rock and blues. It has some of the desert rock vibes of two other hits that came out around the same time: Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” and the Divinyls’ “I Touch Myself.” “Black Velvet” isn’t as risque as those songs — it’s chaste compared to “I Touch Myself!” However, “Black Velvet” still focuses on Elvis’ attractiveness, showing that the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer was a sex symbol even in death.

Plenty of fans would love to meet Elvis Presley‘s ghost. Notably, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll‘s specter is a character in Marc Cohn’s “Walking in Memphis.” Cohn said the tune is more about his feelings about religion than his feelings about the “Heartbreak Hotel” singer. Regardless, it’s one of the most beloved tunes to mention Elvis.
Marc Cohn’s ‘Walking in Memphis’ made part of Elvis Presley’s Graceland very famous
“Walking in Memphis” is a tribute to the titular city, referencing famous musicians such as W. C. Handy and Al Green. A song like that wouldn’t be complete without a tip of the hat to the “Can’t Help Falling in Love” singer, a Memphis resident. One of the song’s verses focuses on Elvis. It’s about his ghost sneaking onto the grounds of Graceland and going to spend some intimate time with...

Elvis Presley was known as the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, but he wasn’t known for his musings on the afterlife. Regardless, Elvis’ girlfriend said that he had some strong opinions on heaven. He was influenced by one denomination of Christianity in particular. Notably, Priscilla Presley feels she has had spiritual experiences with Elvis well after his death.
Elvis Presley thought the afterlife was open to non-Christians
Linda Thompson was Elvis’ girlfriend from 1972 to 1976. She would later become a professional songwriter. She might be most known for penning Whitney Houston’s classic ballad “I Have Nothing” from the soundtrack of The Bodyguard. More recently, that song has been covered by Ariana Grande.
In her 2016 book A Little Thing Called Life, Thompson described the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll as a Christian with an inclusive theology. “Elvis was very humble about his place in the cosmos and had an abiding faith in Jesus,...

To many listeners, Elvis Presley‘s “Blue Suede Shoes” is a fun, danceable dose of early rock ‘n’ roll. On the other hand, Bob Dylan took the song’s subject matter extremely seriously. He said blue suede shoes have all the answers. That might not be the case, but Elvis’ “Blue Suede Shoes” has inspired many artists who came after him.
Bob Dylan said the shoes from Elvis Presley’s ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ ‘vibrate with life’
In his 2022 book The Philosophy of Modern Song, the “Lay Lady Lay” singer had a lot to say about “Blue Suede Shoes.” He felt there was something sacred about that type of footwear. “They neither move nor speak, yet they vibrate with life, and contain the infinite power of the sun,” he wrote. Dylan may have been alluding to a passage from Psalm 135 that discusses idols being unable to move or speak.

You might know “Walking in Memphis,” but how well do you know Marc Cohn? The singer-songwriter rose to fame in the early ’90s thanks to the AC staple, which earned him commercial success and a couple Grammy nominations as well. These days, Cohn’s name is best known in regards to his 1992 win for Best New Artist. While the win is definitely something to talk about, we can’t discuss it without understanding Cohn’s background, the song that led to such success, and the competition that Cohn faced on his way to the Grammy stage.

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck doubled down on their marriage vows with a decidedly more elaborate affair in Riceboro, Ga (a small town just outside of Savannah), on Saturday, Aug. 20. The couple - who were officially married at a Las Vegas wedding chapel on July 17 - celebrated their love with their friends and families in Georgia.
The couple's second ceremony was a star-studded event. Affleck's longtime friend Matt Damon was in attendance alongside his wife, Luciana Barroso. Other guests included director Kevin Smith and his wife, Jennifer; "Clerks" star Jason Mewes and his wife, Jordan Monsanto; and model Pia Miller and her husband, Patrick Whitesell. Meanwhile, photos indicate the wedding party included Lopez's children with Marc Anthony, 14-year-old twins Max and Emme, as well as Affleck's children with ex Jennifer Garner: Violet (16), Seraphina (13), and Samuel (10).

Jennifer Lopez may have taken a page out of her film “Marry Me” by saying “I do” to longtime love Ben Affleck, but the Grammy winner revealed Oscar winner Affleck also had a past movie quote up his sleeve. During their September 20 wedding reception, Affleck apparently quoted his own 2016 film “Live by Night,” which he wrote, directed, produced, and starred in. Based on Dennis Lehane’s 2012 novel of the same name, “Live by Night” follows a gangster through his existential crisis.
“‘This is heaven. Right here. We’re in it now,'” Lopez shared in her On the JLo newsletter, quoting the film. “That is one of my favorite lines that Ben wrote from a movie he directed called ‘Live By Night.’ He also said it the night of our wedding reception in his speech, and I thought…how perfect.”

Jennifer Lopez surprised Ben Affleck at their wedding in Savannah, Georgia, last month when singer-songwriter Marc Cohn sang two of his songs, “The Things We’ve Handed Down” and “True Companion” while she walked down the aisle.
“Ben and I talked about Marc Cohn’s “True Companion” as the perfect wedding love song in this very house more than 20 years ago. Though Ben didn’t know, I asked Marc to surprise him by singing it at our wedding and he was lovely and generous to come,” Lopez told People.

Jennifer Lopez is looking back on her and Ben Affleck’s wedding day.
Reflecting on their Aug. 20 nuptials via her On the JLo newsletter sent Thursday, Lopez shared that during their wedding reception, Affleck quoted one of her “favorite lines” that he wrote in the 2016 film he directed, Live by Night: “This is heaven. Right here. We’re in it now.”
“I thought…how perfect,” she wrote. She went on to explain the stressors that took place prior to the ceremony, including the weather — “it had rained at sunset every day that week” — the “aptly named ‘love bugs,'” worries about whether the guests would arrive on time, a stomach bug that left them “recuperating ’til late in the week” and “a few other unexpected setbacks,” which ultimately “had all the makings of a doozie of a wedding weekend.”

The King of Staten Island is coming home. While he may have made headlines earlier this week by holding hands with Kim Kardashian, who he recently began dating, Pete Davidson let his singing skills take center stage in a hilarious, Staten Island-infused ode to his beloved hometown on Saturday Night Live on Nov. 20. Titled "Walking In Staten," the song is a parody of Marc Cohn's 1991 hit "Walking in Memphis" and is jam-packed full of references to what Davidson lovingly calls "the land of Colin Jost." That includes how Staten Island has "like 80 bagel spots," "wild turkeys by the hospital," and a "garbage dump so big you can see...

Another week of “Saturday Night Live” — this time, a slightly Thanksgiving-tinged week — another new host. This week saw Marvel’s “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” star Simu Liu take over things in Studio 8H.
Host: Simu Liu
Also continuing this season’s trend of low-key opening monologues, Simu Liu’s opener relied on one simple fact: No, not the fact that he’s the “first Chinese host on ‘SNL’… to be the fourth Chinese host on ‘SNL’” but instead the fact that he’s Canadian. Which, of course, meant relying on easy — but still, effective — jokes about his politeness. Yes, he buttoned all that politeness with an “I’m Shang-Chi, bitch!” but it was a natural progression.
In fact, “natural” might just be the word that best describes Liu’s first time as “SNL” host. While he didn’t quite drive sketches the way previous hosts have this year,...

“Viva Las Vegas,” “Cleveland Rocks,” “London Calling.” Now, finally, New York’s last borough (alphabetically and, arguably, qualitatively) has its own song: “Walking in Staten.”
Saturday Night Live‘s latest country-esque video with Pete Davidson also features Big Wet, who you may remember from another collaboration earlier this season, “Squid Game.” It’s tempting to call it a parody since it’s the music of “Walking in Memphis” with silly lyrics. But they brought in the original song’s writer and singer, Marc Cohn, so maybe it’s more of a remake/reboot/live-action reimagining?

"Like you, and like most Americans, we have had Enough.
