“Succession” came to a dramatic close last summer with its fourth and final season but the Roy family legacy continues to live on in all our hearts.
Nearly a year after the series finale, Funko Pop has launched a collection of Succession vinyl figures based on the most beloved (edit: reviled) characters on the show. The “Succession” Funko Pop lineup includes a wide-eyed and suited up Greg, clipboard in hand; a stoic Logan in his signature cable sweater; Shiv in a tan power suit, arms crossed for business; a casual Roman, hands in pocket, and slight stubble on his face; and lastly, Kendall fitted in the bomber jacket and gold chain he famously wore to his birthday party in the fourth season.

Exclusive: Some 20 years after it took root in the imagination of Francis Ford Coppola, Megalopolis screened this morning for the very first time. Held at the Universal CityWalk IMAX Theater, the epic film screened for buyers, and had every distributor in attendance. Also in tow were family friends and filmmakers, a list that included Anjelica Huston, Nicolas Cage, Andy Garcia, Spike Jonze, Al Pacino, Jon Favreau, Colleen Camp, Roger Corman, Darren Aronofsky, Cailee Spaeny and cast members Shia Labeouf and Talia Shire.
I was there also, and what can I say about the movie when I promised Coppola I would be a fly on the wall and not write anything approximating a review? “Mare of Easttown” Primetime Emmy Award winner Kate Winslet is making her return to HBO — this time, as a power-hungry, insufferable political leader. Stephen Frears and Jessica Hobbs direct the series about an unraveling authoritarian ruler, with Oscar winner Winslet joined in the cast by Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant. Watch the latest trailer below.
The limited series, created and showrun by Will Tracy, premieres on HBO and Max March 3. Voting for the Emmys nominations begins June 13. That may feel like a long way off, even though the 2023 Primetime Emmy Awards just happened (courtesy of the strikes) January 15. Place your easily made bets: Winslet will be part of the conversation once again this year.

HBO Films announced it is working on the story of disgraced former Rep. George Santos’ (R-New York) rise to political power and the lies that got him there.
Last month, HBO Films optioned the right to the book, The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos by Mark Chiusano, which was published on November 28.
Santos was expelled from Congress on December 1, due to multiple ethics violations, including spending donor funds on luxury trips and Botox treatments. He has denied the charges and promised to fight back against them.
Santos’ biopic has been characterized as an investigative and darkly humorous look at the remarkable congressional race on Long Island that led to Santos being elected to Congress.
The film’s executive producer will be Frank Rich, who also executive produced the HBO shows, Veep and Succession.
The biopic will be written by Mike Makowsky, the writer-producer of the HBO show,...

Rifkin is the Hollywood vet who ran Wma for years and was producing partner with Bruce Willis after that, and who will move Incite into scripted fare next year.
Incite’s aim is to finance and produce premium non-fiction fare, and they have started out with a bang. Kate Winslet is striking fear into the hearts of her not-so-loyal subjects in HBO‘s The Regime teaser trailer. From Will Tracy and Frank Rich, the complex minds behind Succession, comes a limited series about power, corruption, and subterfuge.
The Regime “tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel.”
“Since I became your Chancellor, we have grown considerably as a country. It is time to show America and the world precisely what we are worth,” Winslet’s Chancellor says in The Regime teaser trailer while addressing a crowd, asserting her authority. The vibes in the room quickly become hostile, eliciting fear and confusion about who’s in charge of the population’s wellbeing.

The nearly two-minute teaser trailer for HBO’s The Regime reveals Oscar winner Kate Winslet is a Chancellor who turns to a soldier she plucks from obscurity to insulate her from all those who might question her authority. Matthias Schoenaerts stars as the soldier who takes his job of limiting access to the Chancellor way too seriously.
“The Regime tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel,” reads HBO’s synopsis. Unlike the single-sentence description, the teaser indicates the limited series is more of a comedy rather than a straight political drama.
Joining Winslet and Schoenaerts for the six-episode season are Guillaume Gallienne, Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and Hugh Grant.

“Mare of Easttown” Emmy winner Kate Winslet is back at HBO — this time as a European authoritarian ruler under heaps of pressure, and crumbling because of it.
HBO has released another trailer for its upcoming series “The Regime,” headed for the premium TV network on March 3, 2024. Oscar nominee Stephen Frears (“The Queen”) and Jessica Hobbs (an Emmy-winning director on “The Crown”) direct the series showrun by Will Tracy.
“The Regime” tells the story of one year within the walls of the palace of a modern European regime as it begins to unravel. Along with Winslet, the cast includes Belgian “Rust and Bone” heartthrob Matthias Schoenaerts, Guillaume Gallienne, surprise 2023 Best Actress Academy Award nominee Andrea Riseborough, Martha Plimpton, and, a usual suspect for this sort of lofty Euro political fare, Hugh Grant. The trailer suggests layers of moneyed darkness a la “Succession” with a dash of Armando Iannucci “Veep” satire to match the drama.

During the one-on-one interview, Ziwe asked Santos to weigh in on Bowen Yang’s impression of him on Saturday Night Live.

Ziwe followed up by asking Santos if he would like Yang to play him in the HBO biopic being developed at the premium network by Veep executive producer Frank Rich based on the Mark Chiusano book The Fabulist: The Lying, Hustling, Grifting, Stealing, and Very American Legend of George Santos.
“That movie is not ever going to happen,” Santos answered. “The book has no perspective of me or anybody close to me. It’s a f***ing fiction.”

Disgraced ex-congressman George Santos may have been expelled from the House of Representatives on Dec. 1 by a vote of 311-114 — but that doesn’t mean it’s the end of the story for the alleged serial grifter and sometimes drag queen from New York. HBO Films has already optioned The Fabulist, a book about Santos’ rise and fall, for adaptation, with Frank Rich and Mike Makowsky (HBO’s Bad Education) attached to executive produce and Makowsky set to write. As for Santos, public opinion seems to think he’ll find a future on Dancing with the Stars — so much so that the show trended on X alongside news of his historic expulsion.
Asked if he would consider competing on the show that has featured the likes of Sean Spicer and House majority leader Tom DeLay (indicted on charges of conspiring to violate political fundraising law), Santos told reporters, “Today, I...

In the penultimate song in Stephen Sondheim’s musical “Sunday in the Park with George,” Dot implores the artist George to “give us more to see.” The late maestro has done so himself one last time with the world premiere of his final musical, “Here We Are,” which opened Off-Broadway at The Shed on Oct. 22. Written with dramatist David Ives, the musical takes inspiration from two Luis Buñuel films – “The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie” and “The Exterminating Angel” – that it marries with one set of characters.
Tony Award-winner Joe Mantello played an integral role in the show’s development and directs its first production. He has assembled an unrivaled ensemble to take on the roles of the unimaginably affluent characters who spend the first act trying to find a restaurant in which to have brunch, and who in the second act find themselves unable to leave after their meal.

Hulu’s acclaimed “Only Murders in the Building,” currently vying for 11 Emmys, has gone all razzle dazzle in its third season. Make that rattle dazzle! Beleaguered Broadway director Oliver (Martin Short) was hoping for a comeback on the Great White Way with the mystery thriller “Death Rattle.” But when his leading man (Paul Rudd) is murdered, he decides to turn the straight play into a musical, “Death Rattle Dazzle!” And in the third episode, Meryl Streep’s nervous journeyman actress and Ashley Park’s leading lady performed the show-stopping ballad “Look for the Light” co-written by Sara Bareilles. One almost forgot the prime suspects in “Death Rattle Dazzle!” are the infant Pickwick triplets.
The 1959 multiple Tony winner “Redhead” also has a rather strange plot for a musical: a serial killer is stalking women in London in the 1880s during the time Jack the Ripper was terrorizing the city. Sounds like a real toe-tapper.

The recently departed William Friedkin has a fascinating relationship with the gay community, not only as the infamous director of "Cruising," but also as the director of the film adaption of "The Boys in the Band" a decade prior, a monumental work of mainstream American queer cinema (and the first Hollywood-made film to use the word "c***" on screen). It's nothing short of a miracle that a director of Friedkin's caliber is responsible for two of the most impactful queer films in history, both continually debated. But "Cruising" is on another level. Depending on who you ask, the film is either a remarkable feat or irredeemable trash, and the controversy started before Friedkin ever called "action."

[This story contains spoilers from the Succession series finale, “With Open Eyes.”]
Since the Succession series finale released last weekend, creator Jesse Armstrong has only briefly weighed in on the tragic ending he delivered for the Roy family saga.
Speaking after the May 28 episode in HBO’s featurette, Armstrong said Roman (Kieran Culkin) ended in a “reductive, brutal way” as he drinks at a bar; Shiv (Sarah Snook) in a “terrifying, frozen, emotionally barren place” as the wife of newly named Waystar Royco CEO Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and for Kendall (Jeremy Strong), “This will never stop being the central event of his life, central days of his life, central couple years of his life. Maybe he could go on and start a company or do a thing, but the chances of him achieving the sort of corporate status that his dad achieved are very low, and I think that will mark at his whole life.”

The Roy family saga picks up as the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) looms. In the days after the series finale of "Succession," many viewers were talking about Tom Wambsgans (Matthew Macfadyen), who shockingly finished his run in the show as the American CEO of Waystar Royco. On his path, he betrayed his wife Shiv (Sarah Snook) and her brothers Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Keiran Culkin) multiple times. All of that seemed to lend credence to a popular theory that Tom's last name foreshadowed the finale's epic conclusion - and may have been inspired by Bill Wambsganss, who turned the first (and still only) unassisted triple play in a World Series over a century ago.
Tom's name theory grew in popularity in the days before the finale, which aired on May 28, when an editor for Nameberry.com shared it in a TikTok, pointing out the clear connection between Tom and Wambsganss. The baseball player was a member of the Cleveland Indians (since renamed...

Amid the HBO Max rebrand, Succession is ending after four seasons on the premium cable network. The Roy family is at odds with each other and the drama is set to start at 9 p.m. Et and 6 p.m. Pt on HBO.
For viewers that streamed the show online through the HBO Max app up until a week ago, make sure to download the standalone Max app. With the rebrand, the HBO Max app stopped working for U.S.-based users and the only way to access HBO is through the new Max app. The same credentials used for HBO Max should give users access to Max.
Succession, created by Jesse Armstrong, has explored power and family dynamics seen through the eyes of Logan Roy, played by Brian Cox and his four adult children, Kendall (Jeremy Strong), Siobhan (Sarah Snook), Roman (Kieran Culkin), and Connor (Alan Ruck).

[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “Succession” Season 4, through the ninth episode. It does not spoil the finale.]
Midway through a recent conversation about her new movie, “You Hurt My Feelings,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus just couldn’t wait any longer. She stopped her moderator, Frank Rich, and said, “God, what a season you’ve had on ‘Succession.'”
Rich, an executive producer on the HBO drama — who served the same role on “Veep” — nodded his thanks and started to ask the next question, but Louis-Dreyfus wasn’t done.
“I really do think that killing off Logan [when you did] was inspired,” she said. “Utterly inspired.”
Rich quickly gave credit to Jesse Armstrong, the “Succession” creator who also co-wrote the first season finale of “Veep” — “which I won an Emmy for,” Louis-Dreyfus playfully pointed out — and in doing so, he outlined why the timing of Logan’s death proved so pivotal.

Updated June 28: Max says the rollout of the updated credits will begin rolling out the week of June 28.
Previous: Max has responded to the controversy with the following statement: “We agree that the talent behind the content on Max deserve their work to be properly recognized. We will correct the credits, which were altered due to an oversight in the technical transition from HBO Max to Max and we apologize for this mistake.”
The decision to fix the credits comes as the writers and directors guild took a hard line against the Max grouping:
“For almost 90 years, the Directors Guild has fought fiercely to protect the credit and recognition deserved by Directors for the work they create. Warner Bros. Tom Stoppard and the late Terrence McNally have won the most Tonys for a playwright taking home four each. The 85-year-old Stoppard is a strong contender to pick up his fifth Tony for his latest (and perhaps final) play “Leopoldstadt.” The acclaimed drama revolves around a wealthy Jewish family who had fled the programs in Eastern Europe and settled in Vienna. In an interview, Stoppard noted that the play “took a year to write but the gestation was much longer. Quite a lot of it is personal to me but I made it a Viennese family so that it wouldn’t seem to be about me. “ Stoppard, who was born in Czechoslovakia in 1937, lost all four of his grandparents in the Holocaust.

The family drama of “Succession” is worthy of the big screen.
The fourth and final season of the HBO series is set to conclude May 28, the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. Composer Nicholas Britell revealed that the series finale will be a whopping 90 minutes long, akin to a film’s running time.
“It’s 90 minutes,” Britell told Variety. “It’s a huge episode — like a movie.”
“Succession” executive producer Mark Mylod, who recently helmed “The Menu,” will direct the final episode to cap off the Roy family battle to take over Waystar Royco following the death of patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox). The season thus far has hinged on the core Roy children — Roman (Kieran Culkin), Kendall (Jeremy Strong), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) — polluting the potential buyout of the media conglomerate by tech founder Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård).

HBO’s “Succession” series finale will be 90 minutes long, according to one of the key members of its creative team. In an interview Wednesday, the show’s Emmy-winning composer Nicholas Britell confirmed that rumored run time to Variety.
“It’s 90 minutes,” Britell said. “It’s a huge episode — like a movie.”
The episode will be directed by “Succession” executive producer Mark Mylod, and will air on the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, May 28.
While little else is known about what to expect, Variety previously reported in a cover story with HBO chief Casey Bloys that the network is not developing any spinoffs.
Season 4 saw the major plot twist of patriarch Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) death, followed by Roman (Kieran Culkin) and Kendall (Jeremy Strong) becoming “interim” co-CEOs of Waystar Royco, with Shiv (Sarah Snook) involved in the decision-making process. One of the biggest puzzle pieces of the spring television season recently fit into place with the announcement that the HBO limited series “White House Plumbers” will debut on Monday, May 1. From three of the comedic minds behind the Emmy-winning “Veep” — David Mandel, Alex Gregory and Peter Huyck — this five-part political thriller and satire explores the events of the Watergate break-in from vantage point of two of its masterminds: E. Howard Hunt (Woody Harrelson) and G. Gordon Liddy (Justin Theroux).
In the full trailer, Howard’s wife Dorothy, played by Lena Headey, declares the scheme to re-elect President Richard Nixon by bugging their opponents at the Democratic National Committee, “The stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.” The series begins with the White House employing Hunt and Liddy to investigate the leak of the Pentagon Papers and zeroes in on their subsequent, haphazard schemes to break into the DNC offices; the...

The final season of Succession has reached yet another audience milestone.
Season 4 episodes are currently averaging about 7.9M viewers across platforms, according to HBO. That’s about 10% ahead of the 7.2M audience average for Season 3.
Sunday’s viewing of Episode 5 held even with the previous week’s series-high audience of 2.6M. That number is up about 4% over Episode 3’s viewership of 2.5M and 11% above the Season 4 premiere episode’s 2.3M — both of which were also series highs at the time.
After a solid premiere week for Barry, Season 4 held strong once again with 606,000 total same-day viewers across platforms, HBO said.
The first two episodes of the season, which debuted after Succession on April 16, are signaling strong delayed viewing for Barry. They’ve now been watched by an average of about 2.5M people, which is nearly four times their same-day audience. Episode 1 debuted to 710,000 viewers and Episode 2 drew 550,000 viewers across HBO Max and linear telecasts.

Ron Faber, who appeared on Broadway in the 1970s alongside Henry Fonda in First Monday in October and with Irene Papas in Medea, died March 26 in New York after a two-month battle with lung cancer, a publicist announced. He was 90.
Faber shaved his head and received Obie and Drama Desk awards in 1972 for his turn as a political prisoner in And They Put Handcuffs on the Flowers, Fernando Arrabal’s harrowing drama about the Spanish Civil War.
In 1981, he was featured in Wallace Shawn’s The Hotel Play at the La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, which had a cast of 70 and was called “unassailable as a mad theatrical stunt” by Frank Rich in The New York Times.
Faber’s stage credits also included off-Broadway roles in Hamlet, Mary Stuart, Scenes From Everyday Life and Woyzeck at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre; Happy Days at the Cherry Lane Theatre; Troilus and Cressida at the Mitzi E.

HBO and Kate Winslet’s fruitful creative relationship will continue with The Regime, a limited series set to premiere in 2024. The premium cabler released a teaser for the series Wednesday at a Warner Bros. Discovery press event.
Formerly titled The Palace, the series from Succession writer and executive producer Will Tracy tells the story of a year inside the palace of a “modern European regime” as it starts to unravel. (That description is a slight tweak from an earlier logline that called the government in question “an authoritarian regime.”)
The teaser mostly focuses on a meeting between Winslet’s chancellor and a U.S. emissary played by Martha Plimpton. “We need you to demonstrate credibility to us — trustworthiness,” Plimpton’s character says.
“All we are doing is realizing our dream — our dream of a new Europe, without limits, without cruelty. There are times when one must choose the hardest road.

Kate Winslet is striving for more than just world peace as she sets her mind on crafting a “new Europe” as Madame Chancellor in HBO’s new political drama “The Regime.”
The official teaser, which was revealed during Warner Bros. Discovery’s unveiling of the Max streaming service Wednesday, showcases a tense confrontation between Winslet and an American diplomat (Martha Plimpton) who attempts to convince the chancellor the U.S. would like to help “enhance” Winslet’s authority in the region — a goal that was, evidently, not pressing enough that the President could attend the meeting.
“All we are doing is realizing our dream, our dream of a new Europe, without limits, without cruelty,” the chancellor says as she engages in, shall we say, less dignified actions to get her point across, including punching an unknown victim. “There are times when one must choose the hardest road; I have chosen...

Kate Winslet is power-hungry and desperate to demand control — in a funny way.
HBO dark comedy “The Regime” stars the “Mare of Easttown” Emmy winner as an authoritarian leader who struggles to hold onto her kingdom as her regime begins to unravel. The Oscar-winning actor is leading the upcoming HBO limited series “The Regime,” which was teased during the April 12 Warner Bros. Discovery streaming press event.

The “Succession” writer’s room successfully kept Season 4 Episode 3’s shocking twist a secret by using code, writer Georgia Pritchett revealed Tuesday.
The episode, titled “Connor’s Wedding,” revolves around the Roy family’s reaction to the surprise death of Logan (Brian Cox).
This was a tough secret to keep! We decided it in the #Succession writers' room in Jan 22. So nobody found out we used code on the whiteboards. Larry David meant Logan Dies. So episode 403 said Connor's Wedding, Larry David. Mind you, that would also have been a great episode. pic.twitter.com/VH1HuHCFOC
