The Merge Challenge for Survivor 46 had unbalanced teams as everyone fought to “earn the merge” in Fiji.
Even host Jeff Probst was shocked at how all the people perceived as “competition beasts” were randomly drawn to be on the same team.
Typically, Immunity Challenges are set up to even the playing field and not just be physical, but the opening portion of this challenge heavily favored taller and stronger players.
Soda, Venus, Charlie, Maria, Moriah, and Liz were definitely the underdogs of the challenge, even though they found a way to make it a close finish. It’s unsurprising how little time Tiffany (the player sitting out) needed to choose Kenzie, Hunter, Tim, Q, Tevin, and Ben as the likely winners.
Losing that challenge shifted the game of some players. And maybe that is intentional from the producers. But it also might not be the fairest way to do things.

“Survivor 45” contestant Jake O’Kane has always dreamed of playing the game, but because he’s worked on himself in recent years he’s finally ready. The 26 year old attorney from Massachusetts puts his “notorious Irish whisper” on full display, wearing his personality and culture with pride. Watch their full CBS interview below.
Jake sees himself as someone who occupies a lot of different spaces in the world. He’s a lawyer, but he’s “also a bartender and teaching theater to kids.” He says he’s doesn’t “entrench [himself] entirely in one world.” In fact, it surprises people that he’s a 26 year old lawyer living with his 85 year old grandmother. He admits that he’s “mooching a little bit.” She’s watched the show before and understands the concept, but has told Jake that “they’re so mean to each other.”

As the old saying goes, once you reach the top, the only way to go is down. Perhaps that’s a part of the reason why so many “Survivor” winners never returned to play again. There have been 39 winners over the past 41 seasons, and of those a whopping 27 played multiple times. Thus, over the past two decades, 12 “Survivor” champions took home the 1 million check and never looked back — or were never asked back. See the full list below.
Several winners found success on their second go-around, like Amber Brkich (“All-Stars”) and Parvati Shallow (“Micronesia”). For others it took a long while to get there, like Rob Mariano (“Redemption Island”), who didn’t prevail until his fourth season.
Some of the most recent champs like Chris Underwood (Season 38), Tommy Sheehan (Season 39) and Erika Casupanan (Season 41) haven’t had a chance to return to the game quite yet, but we’re optimistic...

“Survivor: Winners at War” may purport to decide the best winner of all time, but 18 former champions could plausibly dispute that. While Season 40 does have “Survivor” legends like Rob Mariano, Parvati Shallow and Sandra Diaz-Twine, it does not include every past winner. For instance, the first two winners, Richard Hatch and Tina Wesson, are missing from the “Winners at War” cast despite being from two of the most-watched seasons in the show’s history. Check out our photos above of all 18 “Survivor” winners not on the Season 40 cast.

But with 39 seasons of winners and only 20 slots to fill, there are some glaring omissions we won’t see on the island this year. Scroll through our photo gallery above to see the 18 “Survivor” winners who aren’t returning in Season 40.

If “Survivor” fans finally get their wish of a long-rumored all-winners edition for Season 40 (due out in 2020), then the following five Male champs must be a part of the action, say our readers who voted in our recent poll. “Boston” Rob Mariano (Season 22) earned 15% of the vote, Yul Kwon (Season 13) also received 15%, Richard Hatch (Season 1) nabbed 12%, John Cochran (Season 26) scored 11% and Tony Vlachos (Season 28) netted 7%. Do you agree or disagree with your fellow “Survivor” fans? Be sure to sound off down in the comments section.
Rob has competed in no less than four seasons — “Marquesas,” “All Stars,” “Heroes vs. Villains” and “Redemption Island” — and will also be a part of the upcoming “Island of the Idols” as a mentor along with Sandra Diaz-Twine, who is one of the five Female winners who fans want to return. It’s official: 65% of “Survivor” fans have voted that they want to see an all-winners edition for the reality TV show’s 40th season (scheduled for early 2020). If the stars align, which castaways do you hope return for this long-awaited battle of the champions? As a refresher, over the past 38 seasons men accounted for 23 victories while 15 seasons were won by women (see all winners in our photo gallery above). Vote in our poll below to tell us which Male Sole “Survivors” must be a part of this potential all-winners season.

Many consider Richard Hatch, the show’s first-ever winner, to be the best of the best even 19 years later. Richard’s way of playing the game in “Borneo” — from creating alliances to being boastful about eliminating people — helped shape the reality TV villain of today.

With Kim's all-woman alliance exposed, the women got a little cocky and their number one target Troyzan got a little desperate on "Survivor: One World" (Wed., 8 p.m. Et on CBS). His back clearly against the wall, the women tried to tell him to take his eventual elimination with some grace, but why would he do that?
Instead, he fought to save himself, and maybe shake up the game entirely. With only three guys left to the women's six, he tried to call on his former female tribe mates by telling Christina and Alicia that they're at the bottom of that woman's alliance -- something that certainly appears to be true.
After winning the immunity challenge, he bought himself another "week" in the game, but he still tried to shake things up nevertheless. Unfortunately, it didn't work and Leif was the fourth guy in a row voted out of the game.

Survivor: One World Review, Season 24, Episode 9,
“Go Out with a Bang”
Airs Thursdays at 8pm (Et) on CBS
Despite the predictable outcome, this week’s episode provides a clinic on how to keep a doomed player in the dark. Jay is eerily close to figuring out his time is up, but he can’t draw the connections. It seems like Michael’s exit would have made him nervous. However, Kim and Kat sell the blind side convincingly by keeping things simple. The post-merge episodes have resembled a romantic comedy where the characters could solve their problems with some basic communication. Instead, the men appear determined to avoid the obvious truth. There’s no benefit for the top four women to keep Jay or Troyzan around. These guys are challenge threats and actually trying to win the game, so it’s logical to vote them out quickly.

Lee DeWyze surprised more than a few people when he took the American Idol prize from favorite Crystal Bowersox – not the first time that has happened though, American Idol‘s history is full of unexpected results: Chris Daugherty’s early ejection, Kris Allen’s stunning win over the pre-ordained champ Adam Lambert; the list of upsets and lucky breaks goes on and on. One thing American Idol seems to be lacking—with a few notable exceptions—is a champ that can rule the charts. The fact that American Idol winners rarely go on to be dominate players in the pop scene highlights the show’s great contradiction: it produces better Television stars than it does music stars. Lee DeWyze wants to change all of that.
