Adam Green will be honored with a new tribute album, dubbed Moping in Style, that features renditions of his solo music from artists including Regina Spektor, Father John Misty, and Jenny Lewis. The project arrives in full December 1st, and as a preview, Org Music and Capitane Records have shared Sean Ono Lennon’s cover of “That Fucking Feeling.”
Best known as one-half of The Moldy Peaches, Green has released 11 solo albums over the past twenty years. The impressive roster on Moping in Style speaks to his influence in the indie rock community: in addition to those aforementioned artists, it boasts The Lemon Twigs, Frankie Cosmos, Lou Barlow, The Lemonheads, The Libertines, and Ben Kweller among its contributors. Pre-orders for the tribute album, which arrives on double LP gatefold and CD, are ongoing.

In a city where you can discover a film festival every weekend of the year, perhaps the most unique of such offerings is located in Rockaway, Queens. Taking place just a few blocks from the beach, the 6th edition of the Rockaway Film Festival will occur August 19-August 27, and we’re pleased to exclusively debut the lineup of award-winning documentaries, premieres, live music and dance performances, shorts programmes, and rare repertory screenings.
Organized by Sam Fleischner and Courtney Muller and sponsored by Blundstone®, Istic Illic Pictures, and NYC Ferry, this year’s edition will open at their flagship outdoor theater, Arverne Cinema (constructed using scraps of boardwalk that were destroyed during Hurricane Sandy), with Disney’s famous feature masterpiece Fantasia. There will be a program of shorts preceding it by cine-magician Oskar Fishinger, whose groundbreaking animations changed the cinematic frontier. The festival will also present the New York Premiere of...

Speaking with Rolling Stone earlier this year, Carl “Buffalo” Nichols was happy to talk about his self-titled debut album, most of it steeped in acoustic blues. But he was already thinking about what would come next. “I think it will be pretty drastically different,” he said of his next record.
With his new single, “Friends,” out Tuesday, Nichols begins to deliver on that promise. The first change is in the producer’s chair: TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone is now behind the boards, which suggests fresh sonic ground for both men.

A million alien portals open on Earth in this trio of sci-fi shorts – but the effect is bland, not awe-inspiring
Here’s a close encounter of the disappointing kind, an anthology movie featuring a trio of sci-fi shorts from the crew behind the V/H/S horror films. Released in the US as Doors but renamed Portal for the UK, the three films together tell an alien-contact story set on Earth after a million portals open up – giant doors that look like they’re covered with shimmery iron-filings from school science experiments. Whatever planet they hail from, the portals do not appear to come in peace; half the world’s population vanish into them.
The best of the shorts is number three, titled Lamaj, which stars TV on the Radio’s Kyp Malone as Jamal, a gentle and thoughtful scientist with a lustrous beard who lives alone in a cabin in the woods.

Photo: ‘Doors’/Epic Pictures A Story In Parts Recent sci-fi release ‘Doors’ from directors Saman Kesh, Jeff Desom, and Dugan O'Neal and starring Josh Peck, Lina Esco, Wilson Bethel, and Kyp Malone is a creatively told story that impresses in some areas and disappoints in others. In ‘Doors’, hundreds of thousands of mystery, alien doors appear unannounced on Earth and it is up to the human-race to uncover the meaning and purpose of them before it is too late. From the team behind the ‘V/H/S’ trilogy, ‘Doors’ structures its film in a similar way dividing itself into four narrative vignettes that all take place after the start of the door crisis. This creative structure is the biggest strength of the film but unfortunately also fuels the film's greatest weaknesses. Watch the Trailer for Doors: "Without explanation or warning, a number of mysterious, alien “doors” suddenly appear in every corner of the globe. While many of those that encounter these sentient visitors feel the strange urge to interact with them – never to be seen again – others stay behind to face the potential threat of what their ultimate agenda towards mankind is. In a rush to determine the reason for the arrival of these cosmic anomalies, the government enlists volunteers to brave the journey to enter the doors so that we might learn more about their origin or purpose. But even these brave volunteers are not prepared for what lies beyond the threshold. The story of the doors is told through multiple perspectives: a ragtag band of high school students discover a door for the first time, volunteers explore the parallel reality beyond the threshold, and a lonesome hermit manages the...

Bizarre incidences occurring around the sentient doors leads humanity to question their own existence and an altered reality as they attempt to enter them. The film is directed by three filmmakers, each with a different perspective: a ragtag band of high school students discover a door for the first time, volunteers explore the parallel reality beyond the threshold, a lonesome hermit manages the seemingly impossible: establishing communication with a door. Two months ago a concert of David Bowie's music was announced - Famous fans would sing Bowie's songs at Carnegie Hall in New York City in March. Club owner Michael Dorf had intended the show - the tickets for which would raise money for arts education - as a tribute to a living legend. But the day of the announcement, Bowie died at age 69 and the concert was quickly recast as a celebration of a musical life cut short. The timing, said Dorf, of City Winery, led to an outpouring of "fellow artists wanting to show their respect and...

When underground Brooklyn music venue Death By Audio shuttered in November 2014, its demise signaled the end of an era for Williamsburg's music scene. The space had played an instrumental role in launching bands like A Place to Bury Strangers and Dirty on Purpose and left a hole that may never be filled. Fortunately, Dba cofounder Matthew Conboy had the good sense to film just about everything that happened between news of the warehouse space's closing and the night of its raucous last gasp of life. TV On The Radio haven't announced a new album, but they have offered up a new song: "Mercy" arrived today. And, no, it's not a Kanye West cover. The fast track has the band at a snap-hip pace, with the lyrics intimating some forthcoming, soul-challenging forces. Kyp Malone told HuffPost that it's one of two new songs on the way from the band, the other being a tune called "Million Miles." “Couldn't be more excited to be getting back into it, all together," band member Kyp Malone tells HuffPost. TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe claims that he "sees tons of people looking lost and lethal, and I think we're all the same" on the band's latest single, but if "Mercy" is any indication, there's far more "lethal" than "lost" to come from the Brooklyn natives.
HuffPost Entertainment is glad to be premiere the new song, which the band teased when they curated All Tomorrow's Parties and comes as a signal of the band's return to making music (there have been no announced plans for a full LP). It also marks the group's first outing on member/producer Dave Sitek's new label, Federal Prism. In keeping with the band's interest in technology, a preview was first teased on The Huffington Post's account.

At last night's gala benefit for The Moth, a non-profit dedicated to the art of storytelling, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels shared a few memories of Adam "McA" Yauch with The Huffington Post.
In the early 80s, McDaniels' group, Run-d.M.C., and Yauch's group, the Beastie Boys, were label-mates on Def Jam Records -- and tag-team partners locked in combat with music's status quo. Today, both groups are safely ensconced in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but it wasn't always obvious that they were destined for immortality.
"You know, it was early, so people thought Run Dmc's a fad, Beasties is a fad, you know, all of this is a fad," McDaniels said. "Run-d.M.C., we crossed over with the rock -- but then it was Run-d.M.C. and the Beastie Boys that took it to venues. We started playing Madison Square Garden, L.A.

I’ve always loved the diverse spectrum of styles you hear when putting on a TV on the Radio record. Their music spans numerous diverse genres, from post-punk to electro, freeform jazz to soul music, cappella music, psychedelia and trip-hop, modern soul and on and on. The band recently released their fifth studio album titled Nine Types of Light. Sadly it is the final TV on the Radio album to feature bassist Gerard Smith, who died of lung cancer only nine days after the release. The rest of the band consists of Tunde Adebimpe (vocals/loops), David Andrew Sitek (guitars/keyboards/loops) and Kyp Malone (vocals/guitars/bass/loops) and Jaleel Bunton (drums/vocals/loops/guitars).

The movie is meant to be a visual re-imagining of the record, and includes a music video for every song on the album.
The band personally asked their friends and the filmmakers they admired to help direct the music videos.

“If the world falls apart / I’m gonna keep your heart,” TV On The Radio guitarist Kyp Malone sings on “Keep Your Heart,” the second track on the new Nine Types Of Light. It’s a fitting epigraph for the entire record. Though awash in paranoid apocalyptic imagery—fish washing ashore, nuclear winter—Nine Types Of Light, like a musical Hiroshima Mon Amour, is all about making love. The sly, sexy falsetto chorus of the opener, “Second Song,” urges “every lover on a mission” to move “into the light,” and they may as well stay there. But more abstractly, it ...

The TV On The Radio hiatus would be more distressing if its members didn’t keep working together. In a lot of ways, the self-titled debut from Maximum Balloon, a.k.a. Tvotr producer-guitarist Dave Sitek, picks up where 2008’s Dear Science left off. The Brooklyn art-soul collective was drifting ever closer to a shinier, cleaner version of itself. Sitek’s solo material pushes that familiar sound further, ditching those strange blues almost entirely in favor of shocking pinks—radio-ready pop songs featuring a handful of guest vocalists including, of course, Tvotr singers Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone. In celebration, the arty gamers (or gamey artists?), along with Interscope are calling for people to create a piece of art inspired by the songs on the record for a chance to be showcased at the album's release party.
The deservedly inflated Sitek has made a respectable name for himself as a record producer and as a founding member of TV on the Radio. Most of the Christmas celebrations on TV are filled with top-shelf, chart-topping talent like Shakira, Usher, Aretha Franklin and the like, but just because you aren't selling tons of records doesn't mean that you can't enjoy the Christmas spirit. Take the Flaming Lips, who are somewhat obsessed with the concept of the holiday (they made a movie called "Christmas on Mars," have a song called "Christmas at the Zoo" and regularly recruited people to dress as Santa Claus and dance with them on stage during live shows). To celebrate the season (as well as their excellent new album Embryonic), the band is offering up the "Silver Trembling Fetus Ornament." The tree-ready doodad sells for $30, and according to an introductory sales video recorded by frontman Wayne Coyne, "It is rumored to give off vibrations that help all humans progress towards an intelligence explosion. It's fitting that Kyp Malone, singer and guitarist for Brooklyn-based indie rock Gods TV on the Radio, has dubbed his solo effort Rain Machine. The musician regularly pours his heart out on his songs (in his signature warped falsetto), and works so much that he's - yes - just like a machine. Malone doesn't think in puns or play-on words like me - thankfully. The name is up for interpretation just like TV on the Radio is, and as I found in an enlightening interview earlier this week, the singer is more focused on making music than making headlines merely for making a solo record. Why did you choose to go with Rain Machine as a name rather than your real name for your first solo effort? I wanted it to be something I could make modular. I'm touring with people right...

Kyp Malone seemingly had it all. But somehow, playing guitar and singing for TV on the Radio, contributing to Iran’s Dissolver album, producing the meaty second album from fellow Brooklynite Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson and owning one of indie rock’s most bountiful faces of hair was still was not enough. Under the Rain Machine moniker, Malone finally captures the songs that are entirely his own, pulling together broken blues, banjo folk and his soul-tearing voice on the self-titled set. Just before he headed out to rehearse with his touring band, Paste caught up with Malone at his Brooklyn, N.Y., apartment to discuss how his nine-year-old daughter critiques his work and what it was like agreeing to a beard massage from Stephen Colbert.

It’s been six years since Iran dropped the sweet bedroom noise of The Moon Boys, and since then, primary songwriter and vocalist Aaron Aites moved from San Francisco to Brooklyn, where guitarist Kyp Malone later linked up with TV On The Radio.
