You probably know Melissa Young as Kid Sister, who, in 2007, as a spritely Chicago Mc earned a verse with the city’s burgeoning superstar, Kanye West, on her high-energy dance-rap track “Pro Nails.”
Today, she continues to make music; she recently appeared on Black Thought and Danger Mouse’s boom-bap collab, Cheat Codes, and has seemed to earn credits as a contributor to esteemed Black-power-soul outfit Sault (“I’m not at liberty to say anything about anything,” she says when I ask her about her involvement with the group.) Madonna is collecting her favorite club remixes, as well as some previously unreleased tracks, for a massive new collection, Finally Enough Love: 50 Number Ones, set to arrive Aug. 19.
The new collection was inspired by Madonna’s Feb. 2020 achievement of notching her 50th Number One on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with “I Don’t Search I Find.” In doing so, Madonna not only became the first artist to earn at least one Number One song on the Dance Club Songs chart in five separate decades (the Eighties through the...

In today’s oversaturated festival market, music fans look for outside-the-box alternatives to the the traditional festival format. Shambhala Music Festival has emerged as one of the best candidates for such, as evidenced by the first lineup announcement for its 2016 edition.
Where previous editions of the festival showcased a heavier distribution of bass music artists, the this year’s installment speaks to the recent fetishization of more four-four oriented electronic music styles. Artists like Amine Edge & Dance, Felix Da Housecat and Autograf find their names neck and neck with those of Andy C, Getter and Kennedy Jones.
That said, even with the dozens of headliners it’s announced, Shambhala Music Festival has yet to unveil its full lineup. Until it does so on April 11th, take a look at the current roster below and let us know which artists you’re most excited to see by dropping a comment.

While Daft Punk center heavily in this new trailer for “Eden,” filmmaker Mia Hansen-Løve’s fourth feature effort, there were many other fondly remembered groups from the '90s French House explosion. There was Dimitri from Paris, Cassius Stardust, Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, Mr. Oizo, DJ Falcon and the American Felix da Housecat really took off in Europe during that era. Those acts were each successful in one way or another, but there were some that never broke out of obscurity, and that’s part of the story of Hansen-Løve’s new film. The director experienced the scene first hand because her brother Sven Hansen-Love was an upcoming DJ therein and cowrote the movie, a loveletter to that era. “[Sven] was part of a group who did residencies at the Queen club in Paris and out of that came Daft Punk and that whole French house movement,” the director told...

Supercringe! Nigel Lythgoe’s general buffoonery can make for some pretty awkward critiques on Sytycd, but tonight he outdid himself while raving about Dorian “BluPrint” Hector’s prowess in an Afro Jazz routine. “People say, ‘This is your ethnicity, your heritage.’ But it isn’t! You didn’t grow up in a jungle!” the old white man exclaimed to the young black dancer. Say what?! At least BluPrint (pictured, center) put on a brave grin following the comment. As you can see, host Cat Deeley took a bit longer for her “Wtf, man?” face to catch up to the contestant’s.

'Despite what's going on with music, the three of us are who we are whenever we come together as Dirty Vegas,' Paul Harris tells MTV News.

A few days have gone by since we last heard from U.K. electronic trio Dirty Vegas, but after a half-decade of seeming radio silence, the boys from Britain are back with their second studio album, Electric Love, released Tuesday on Om Records.
But the guys haven't been sitting on their thumbs all this time. In fact, recording for the new album began back in 2008, when their individual side projects were put on hold, and Paul Harris, Ben Harris (no relation) and Steve Smith decided it was time to return to the studio and get back into what brought them together in the first place.
"The recording was really the easy part," Smith told MTV News.

Doves are preparing for their last show before going on hiatus. The "Black and White Town" band will be playing a final homecoming show at Manchester's Warehouse Project on October 16, after which they have no plans to work on a new album or tour.

Gaga's people wanted 'that crazy Afrojack vibe,' so Dutch DJ/producer 'went really crazy.'

"Lady Gaga, she's a freak," Dutch DJ/producer Afrojack told MTV News on Saturday, "so I thought, 'Gotta make a freaky song!' "
He's referring to his remix of Lady Gaga's most recent single and video, "Alejandro," which is among a collection of remixes featured on Gaga's recent Alejandro: The Remixes Ep.
In the electronic/dance music world, Nick van de Wall (a.k.a. Afrojack) is one of the genre's rising stars: His mentor is crossover star David Guetta, and he has been instrumental in popularizing the "Holland House" — or as he calls it, "bleep" — sound.
Interestingly, when Gaga's camp put in their request for the remix, at first Afrojack thought it better to deliver a more pop-radio-friendly track. But as fans of Lady Gaga have come to know,...

Apparently, Hollywood thinks American wants an adventure in a desert. Thursday (May 27) saw the opening of "Sex and the City 2" (most of which takes place in Abu Dhabi), and today sees the release of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," which also spends most of its time in the middle of the desert. The latter (perhaps best thought of as a male counterpart to "Sex and the City 2") casts Jake Gyllenhaal as the heroic Dastan, a heroic character who must battle his evil adopted uncle Nizam (played by Ben Kingsley). It's based on a hugely popular and innovative video game series, so the flick features plenty of jumpy action and pretty-looking stunts.
