Two celebrity-led production companies — Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap and Brad Pitt’s Plan B — are in talks to co-produce a remake of the classic 1934 comedy mystery “The Thin Man.”
LuckyChap and Plan B have not engaged in any discussions yet about casting due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike. The two companies would produce jointly.
The rights to “The Thin Man” series just recently became available. Previously, Rob Marshall and Johnny Depp were set to direct and star, respectively, in a remake. However, Warner Brothers said at the time that the project was never greenlit and was scrapped back in 2012.

Kali Uchis at Radio City Music Hall 5/5/23
The feathers parted, and the spotlight turned to Uchis, a monochrome red vision in a long-sleeved top paired with thigh-high heeled boots and a short skirt. Greeted by a shrieking crowd, she boldly kicked the night off with “telepatía.

Formula 1 has hired former Universal and Studiocanal executive Isabelle Stewart as Head of Original Content.
In the newly created role, Stewart will be in charge of expanding F1’s content production and creating new relationships and partnerships with creators.
Prior to joining F1, Stewart was Director of Content Development and Acquisition at Audible, and before that was Head of Acquisitions at Protagonist. She has also had stints in exec and managerial roles at Universal, Focus Features, and Studiocanal.
News of Stewart’s appointment comes as Hollywood increasingly turns to the sport as a source for new content and stories. Earlier this year, Deadline revealed that Apple Studios has locked in its deal to acquire Top Gun: Maverick helmer Joseph Kosinski’s Formula One racing film, starring Brad Pitt.
The as-yet-untitled film will have Pitt playing a driver who comes out of retirement to compete alongside a rookie against the titans of his sport.

The first time I heard "El Abayarde," I thought, "Who is this dude straight dropping fire lyrics on these reggaeton beats?!" Until then, reggaeton had been (at least to me) party music. It was my favorite beat to shake my ass to, and it filled me with pride to know that this genre had, in some part, blown up due to Puerto Rican artists. As a Boricua, I loved that all these up-and-coming lyricists were making their way stateside thanks to an infectious dembow beat the world couldn't resist. But to have someone spitting socially conscious lyrics - talking about police brutality, inequality, racism, and government corruption - was something new. Tego Calderón was the one who brought this consciousness to the world of reggaeton.
It makes sense that Calderón took on this mantle. Santurce, Puerto Rico (where Calderón is originally from), has a long, proud history for Black Puerto Ricans.

Growing up, movies and television were one of Carmelo Anthony’s favorite escapes. The NBA superstar was inspired by the strong characters on TV shows such as “Martin,” “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” and Spike Lee’s classic movie “Do the Right Thing.”
While the 36-year-old has found immense success on the basketball court, currently as the star power forward for the Portland Trail Blazers, he’s always had a passion to create content. Now he’s putting himself in a position to, quite literally, call the shots, by launching a production company that aims to champion inclusive narratives and voices that have gone unheard for too long.
“Storytelling brings people together, and it can serve as a vehicle for propelling larger societal conversations and understanding,” Anthony says. “We are interested in all types of stories that have the power to serve as catalysts for the change we wish to see in the world.

We love movies about women in peril. From “Gaslight” to “King Kong” to Jennifer Lopez with a ridiculous haircut in “Enough,” audiences will almost always pay to watch a woman stare helplessly as a doorknob slowly turns, or hold her breath as a shadow looms next to where she is hiding.
But as much as we like these movies, we have also been asking for a couple decades now, is it Ok that we like these movies? Is it insensitive or exploitative? Is it actually entertaining to watch a woman character be tortured or murdered just to give her pretend spy or superhero husband something to do?
The international conversation around the #MeToo movement has amplified these questions. As women and men have told their stories of surviving violence in the workplace, in their homes, on college campuses, and on the streets, there has been a call for these stories...

Rebecca Lenkiewicz, the screenwriter behind critically acclaimed indie films like Colette, Ida, and Disobedience, has been tapped to script for a film about how New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey investigated and eventually broke the lengthy piece that detailed years of sexual misconduct by movie mogul Harvey Weinstein. Last year, Deadline broke the story that Annapurna and Plan B had partnered to acquire the rights to the feature.
The article, which ran on October 5, 2018, unmasked an array of alleged sexual harassment and assaults against women by The Weinstein Company co-chairman that dated back decades. The piece included details of hush money paid to cover up the sexual indiscretions and first-person accounts by actresses. Weinstein has continued to deny any charges of non-consensual sexual indiscretions. The article gave way to the #MeToo and Time’s Up movement.

A throng of Hollywood elite in a tent on the freezing beach gave a standing ovation when “If Beale Street Could Talk” won the best feature prize at the Independent Spirit Awards in February.
Barry Jenkins also took directing honors for the film, an adaptation of James Baldwin’s classic novel that was produced by Annapurna and Plan B.
Looking over the rows of boldface names, including Timothée Chalamet and Glenn Close, Jenkins singled out his absent benefactor, who was at home stricken with the flu: “Megan Ellison!” he exclaimed. “Financiers do not put their money behind black authors. Thank you for your money, my dear. James Baldwin thanks you.”
Jenkins is not alone in heaping praise on Ellison, who is known in the creative community as someone who consistently backs auteur directors, among them Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze and David O. Russell, making sizable investments in risky movies that major studios frequently shun.
