The co-founders of Batman: Arkham developer Rocksteady have quietly set up a new triple-a studio: Hundred Star Games.
In what could be described as a thought-provoking timing, it’s been revealed that the co-founders of Rocksteady – Sefton Hill and Jamie Walker – have created a new studio called Hundred Star Games.
As you can see on its website – spotted by Eurogamer – Hundred Star is based in London, will eventually have 100 members of staff (hence the name) and will focus on developing triple-a games. In other words, the sort of experiences that made Rocksteady such a respected studio.
Walker and Hill first set up Rocksteady Studios in 2004, and while its debut title didn’t make much of a splash – 2006’s Urban Chaos: Riot Response – the developer really got the world’s attention with 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, an exhilarating action-adventure made with far more care and creative verve than typically expected from a licenced game.

In what’s becoming more common for big-name titles these days, Warner Bros. Games and Rocksteady have announced the delay of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League to Spring 2023. The reveals of Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and WB Montreal’s Gotham Knights at DC Fandome was certainly exciting but resulted in quite a bit of confusion regarding how (or if) these games share the same universe.
The heart of this confusion can be traced back to the reveal of Gotham Knights. The debut Gotham Knights trailer kicks off with Bruce Wayne confirming that he is dead, which echoes the ending of Batman: Arkham Knight in which Bruce Wayne seemingly kills himself as part of the Knightfall Protocol.
That trailer strongly suggested that Gotham Knights was a sequel or continuation of the plot of Arkham Knight, but WB later revealed that is not the case. In fact, Gotham Knights will feature several notable deviations from the “Arkhamverse.” It just so happens to share some similarities.
The confirmation of that information left fans with two seemingly simple...

Gotham Knight‘s debut trailer begins with a stunning sequence in which Bruce Wayne informs his closest allies that he is dead and that it’s now up to them to protect Gotham City. This sequence is actually an extension of the end of Batman: Arkham Knight, which saw Bruce Wayne initiate the Knightfall Protocol, ending his own life.
While Batman’s death at the end of the game seems like an open and shut case, not everyone is convinced the Dark Knight is really gone. And while WB Games has certainly made it look like the Caped Crusader is really gone in Gotham Knights, when you start to look at the evidence, you’ll find that Batman’s death is, at best, debatable.
That being the case, we’re going to look at both sides of this debate in order to help determine whether or not the Dark Knight...

Three new domains registered under the company MarkMonitor Inc, which also registered the wbgames.com domain, points to two long-rumored games that WB Games plans to announce during DC’s FanDome digital event on Aug. 22. The domains include “suicidesquadgame.com,” “suicidesquadkillthejusticeleague.com,” and “gothamknightsgame.com.”
The domains were first discovered by ResetEra user DriftingOrbit, and Eurogamer corroborated the connection between these new domains and WB Games. The outlet also confirmed that the long-rumored Suicide Squad game is being developed by Batman: Arkham trilogy developer Rocksteady Studios and that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is currently being considered as the game’s title.

Rocksteady, the studio behind the Batman Arkham series, has confirmed that it won't be unveiling a new Batman game at the impending E3 2019 conference. In fact, the Rocksteady team won't be announcing anything or even attend the convention.
Sefton Hill, a co-founder of Rocksteady Studios and regular game director for the company, has taken to Twitter to address his followers: "Hi all! The producers of the Batman Arkham games have something in store, job listings from Rocksteady suggest
Rocksteady, the developers behind Batman: Arkham Asylum and its sequels Arkham City and Arkham Knight, are hiring some new employees to work on the marketing materials for "an exciting Aaa game" that hasn't yet been formally announced.
We already knew that Rocksteady was working on something, although details have been very thin so far. The company's co-founder, Sefton Hill, offered this update in November last year: "When it’s ready to show, you’ll be the first to know. Spoiler: it’s not Superman." And that's the last that we heard, basically.
Until now, that is. Some interesting job listings have popped up on the Rocksteady website, which seems to suggest that Rocksteady is nearing a point where it will be ready to start showing off its next project. There are...

The next Batman game could see the Dark Knight face off against the Court of Owls! Here are the details...
It's been the talk of the town for quite a while that WB Montreal, the studio behind Batman: Arkham Origins, is working on a new game starring the Dark Knight. According to a series of rumors over the past few weeks, including one sparked by an employee at the studio, it seems that the new game will see Batman face off against the Court of Owls, a criminal organization made up of the wealthiest citizens in Gotham City.
The Court of Owls rumors began when production coordinator Valerie Valdez posted a picture of a t-shirt with an owl-themed logo that's similar to the one used by the villains in the comics:

In terms of nominations, God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2 are this year's most nominated games, with eight nominations each. Marvel's Spider-Man, Spidey's excellent return to consoles and PC, follows with seven nominations, including Game of the Year. Rocksteady Studios, the developer behind the popular “Batman Arkham” series, is apologizing to fans for skipping this week’s E3 event in Los Angeles.
“We know some of you were disappointed we were not at E3 this year,” Rocksteady co-founder and game director Sefton Hill tweeted on Wednesday. “The whole team has been reading your comments, and all of us here at Rocksteady really appreciate your passion for our next project. Knowing how much it means to you keeps us inspired and energized to deliver a game that you will be proud of. We’ll share it with you as soon as it’s ready.”
Rocksteady’s last-known project was a virtual reality adventure game called “Batman Arkham Vr.” It launched on PlayStation 4 and PC in 2016. Later that same year, Hill revealed in a Reddit Ama the team is working on something new.

We've all had fantasies about being a superhero. Many of us have likely dreamed of being The Batman, specifically. Though virtual reality is not a new technology, it is now truly entering the realm of wish-fulfillment as Rocksteady is set to release Batman: Arkham Vr, a game that will allow you to Be the Caped Crusader. Welcome to the future. Say goodbye to trees and your family. This Batman will truly be functioning as the World's Greatest Detective, as the game will focus on one crime scene which will take about an hour to solve, Batman-News reports. There's also an additional hour of content to explore according to Rocksteady co-founder Sefton Hill. Are you ready to use the Batarang and battle The Joker? We thought so. As to the iconic villain, Mark Hamill will return to voice the Joker and Kevin Conroy Batman. Virtual reality is a natural fit for video games, and though it's been around for decades, it's certainly becoming more prevalent. In fact, this isn't the only Vr news we had in the world of entertainment today. At Variety's annual TV Summit, Jeff Wachtel, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment chief content officer, revealed that the USA hit Mr. Robot is dipping a toe into the Vr realm. “We just shot a Vr scene for Mr. Robot," Wachtel said. He gave little else away, however. Saying only that “it’s really about storytelling. It’s intimate and about the characters.” The mind-bending series is a perfect fit for virtual reality. However, it's unclear if Rami Malek's Elliot Alderson will be going into a Vr experience within the context of the show, or if the intent is to somehow place the viewer fully into Alderson's Pov as an add-on experience. Or both. One thing is certain, Vr is not going anywhere. Both Sundance and the Tribeca Film Festival had a large virtual reality presence, as the technology makes its way into independent and experimental films as well as the mainstream. In an attempt to keep butts in theaters, we'll likely see more and more virtual reality experiences on the big screen over the next several years. Or, we'll all just ride around with visors on our heads and never talk, touch, or interact with each other again. Take a look at the teaser for Batman: Arkham Vr and interview with Hill below. Batman: Arkham Vr will be available exclusively for the PlayStation 4 October 2016.

We’ve already been spoiled with the announcement that Batman: Arkham Knight is getting its own spin-off Dlc featuring Catwoman in October, but Rocksteady’s not content with leaving things there. It appears that the Dark Knight’s latest adventure is going to be his darkest yet, as the Esrb has given the upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight an “M for Mature” rating, marking a first for Rocksteady’s popular franchise.
Despite the mature rating, don’t expect any “gratuitous blood or swearing” in Batman’s latest battle. In an interview with IGN, Rocksteady founder Sefton Hill clarified why Arkham Knight potentially earned its rating.
As the end of the trilogy, we have every villain in Gotham working together to destroy Batman. It’s unavoidable that some bad stuff is going to happen. But that doesn’t mean we changed our approach. We’re not including gratuitous blood or swearing. We want to deliver a true end with no compromises, and it takes us to some dark places.
Hill and the team at Rocksteady are aware that the M rating could potentially...

games™ has posted an expert from their 151st issue, which has lengthy coverage on Rocksteady's upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight. They spoke to director Sefton Hill, who worked on Arkham Asylum and City, and explained that this next-gen current-gen title is the game they always wanted to make. "Ever since Batman: Arkham Asylum, our approach has been to put everything we have into every game we make," he said. "We never hold ideas back because you never know what’s around the corner. So I guess you could describe that as a 'kitchen sink' approach but I’d prefer to say it’s more of a 'live every game as if it’s your last' approach (mainly because it sounds more poetic)." One of thing the studio is working hard to nail is the open world of Gotham, which has been partially featured in City and furthermore in WB Montreal's prequel,...

Following on from the game's announcement and first trailer the other day, new details have emerged from the highly-anticipated next-gen game title "Batman: Arkham Knight" via the latest issue of GameInformer.
Set a year after the events of "Arkham City," Gotham is now under siege from the likes of Two-Face, Penguin, Harley Quinn, and Scarecrow. There's also a new villain in the mix, a new character created for the game which Rocksteady and DC's Geoff Johns have reportedly been working on together. Dubbed 'The Arkham Knight', he has an outfit that appears to resemble a blend of the Batsuit and Iron Man.
Story-wise Scarecrow plans to unleash a chemical weapon on the city, thus most of the civilian population has been evacuated. What's left are an outnumbered police force and hundreds upon hundreds of gang members. Events of the previous games are taken into account, specifically the Joker's death. The character will Not be back,...

GameInformer has just made fans of the cape and cowl extremely happy by officially revealing Rocksteady’s upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight video game. This will mark the studio’s final entry in the mega-successful Arkham franchise, and they are certainly planning to end the Dark Knight’s journey with a bang.
Set after the events of Arkham City, Arkham Knight will task players with chasing down villains like Scarecrow, Penguin, Two-Face, Harley Quinn and more. Most importantly, Batman will finally have access to the iconic Batmobile. This means that Gotham City has been opened up to compliment the new driving gameplay, as well as Batman’s newly-refined and more efficient rooftop traversal mechanics. While it hasn’t been revealed exactly how large the map will be, players can expect something much larger than Arkham City‘s detailed slice of Gotham.

Warner Bros. Interactive has made an official announcement today on the next game in the Batman Arkham franchise, just minutes after a retail leak from Game UK spoiled the surprise and revealed Batman: Arkham Knight for the next-gen consoles coming this year. And yes, it's from Rocksteady. Come inside for the announcement and trailer!
Fans are getting what they want, in a brand new Batman game from the studio who's made arguably the best comic book video game adaptations ever; Rocksteady. While WB Montreal took over duties on Arkham Origins, apparently it's because Rocksteady has been hard at work for the last couple of years on the franchise's first outing on the next generation consoles (or current gen I suppose...). Last week a leak showed us the upcoming logo for the new game, but today comes the official announcement (though it was leaked just a little before).

This past Tuesday Warner Bros. announced the latest instalment to their Batman series, Batman: Arkham Origins. Since then a wave of news has surfaced about the game and fans reactions have been mixed. Do the concerns have any weight or are they just making mountains out of mole-hills?
What seems to be the biggest concern for fans is that Rocksteady, developers of the first two, are not making the latest title. Instead Warner Bros. Games Montreal is heading up development. I don’t see the big problem, especially since we knew quite a while ago that Rocksteady wouldn’t be developing this title. Rocksteady have more than proven themselves with their first two Batman games and despite a new developer the game will be pretty much the same both in aesthetic and gameplay mechanics.

It was revealed yesterday that the next entry in the 'Arkham' franchise, Batman: Arkham Origins , will be released later this year and what caused concern for many fans was that developer Rocksteady was not on the project. Instead, Warner Bros. Games Montreal has been tasked with bringing the game to life. Fans will be glad to hear that Rocksteady has given Warner Bros. Games Montreal their blessing for the game. "Rocksteady is excited to see WB Games Montreal developing the prequel to the Batman Arkham franchise," said Sefton Hill, director of the first two "Arkham" games, to Game Informer (via Cvg ). There is good news today for all Batman: Arkham City fans, as DC Comics have released the first issue of Batman: Arkham Unhinged, a brand new comic book series, which collates all of the short stories penned for Rocksteady’s powerhouse Arkham City video game.
The first story arc collects the first three issues of the digital exclusive comic written by Derek Fridolfs with the help of Rocksteady Studios, and follows Hugo Strange as he attempts to capture Two-Face, Batman and Catwoman, and imprison them in Arkham City. The arc forms the prologue to Catwoman’s Dlc in the game.

Sefton Hill, director of both Arkham Asylum and Arkham City, recently spoke with Official Playstation Magazine and on being asked if Rocksteady would be working on a tie-in video game for The Dark Knight Rises, he confirmed what had long been suspect. That it won’t be happening under his watch:
Opm: Have you ever been approached to do a tie-in game for The Dark Knight Rises? If not, would you like to do a game based on the grittier, more grounded nature of the Nolan films?
Hill: [Laughs] I love the films. I loved Begins and I loved Dark Knight. And it’s quite interesting because we saw Dark Knight in the middle of developing Asylum, so it was already a little too late to have any impact. Still, it was interesting to see where they were going, as opposed to where we were going.

Cartoon Network's Young Justice was one of the surprises of last year's new crop of animated series. Focusing on the sidekicks of the more well-known DC superheroes, it's got an interesting mix of angst, melodrama, and action while not going too far off-model in terms of design and characterization and of its young cast. Well, the series is getting its own multiplatform game release early next year from Little Orbit games.
More about the 2013 release after the jump.

Batman: Arkham City multiplayer was considered "early on" in its development, according to Rocksteady Studios. Game director Sefton Hill told Cvg said that the feature was omitted because its inclusion could have resulted in a "watered down" single-player campaign. "We did look at multiplayer early on and we looked at what it could actually bring to the table. We tried some ideas out but it always felt like it was just there as a requirement," he said. "If we did multiplayer then we wouldn't have been able to deliver the quality of (more)...

The following report should be some sad news for fans of the highly popular turtles. A few weeks ago, a rumor suggesting that Rocksteady Games was making a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video game hit the web. The rumor wasn't addressed by the studio themselves - best known for the Batman: Arkham Asylum/City video games - until now. Rocksteady Chief Sefton Hill informed Kotaku "while the rumor was amusing, they're doing no such thing." Much speculation surrounding which game the studio would tackle next. While a sequel to Arkham City is rather likely, it's possible that Rocksteady would take on another DC Comics hero (there's some interest in making a Superman video game in the near future). Interactive. While designing games isn't something that can be easily be picked up from reading a list of key components, these building blocks should be helpful for anyone out there looking to get into game development.

Rapid Prototyping
Everything they do is in-game, rather than using pre-viz or storyboards. Instead, they do everything in the game engine itself so they can sit there and pull it apart, work with it, change it, and move forward.

Batman: Arkham City game director Sefton Hill has told Cvg that although they decided early on to go with the controversial ending to the sequel in which The Joker dies, in the end it was a decision that was “almost taboo”.
“We decided fairly early on [to kill Joker], I guess. Batman is very much about the story, so we discuss the story early,” he told Cvg.
In the game, The Joker ignores Batman’s help and dies of poisoning, an ending that proved a cliffhanger into the already in development third game but has also become the most talked about aspect of the hit sequel. According to Hill, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment were fine with the killing of Batman’s most iconic villain, as long as it wasn’t done purely for the shock factor and that it made sense as far the story and future sequels went.

Batman: Arkham City's ending has been discussed by Rocksteady Studios. Game director Sefton Hill said the finale, in which Joker dies of being poisoned after ignoring Batman's help, was regarded as "almost taboo". "We decided fairly early on [to kill Joker], I guess. Batman is very much about the story, so we discuss the story early," he told Cvg. "Right at the start we sat down and thought what story we wanted to tell. We knew we had Joker starting off sick from the previous game and we wanted to play on that idea. "Pretty early on we hit on this idea of Joker poisoning Batman and the two of them having this kind of shared goal, but with diametrically opposed world views. We felt that gave a lot of opportunity to interact in interesting ways, and I guess then we sort of knew that we wanted that story to have resonance in the universe.

Hill was asked if one of the pressures was to make the game multiplayer, "We did look at multiplayer early on and we looked at what it could actually bring to the table. We tried some ideas out but it always felt like it was just there as a requirement. If we did multiplayer then we wouldn't have been able to deliver the quality of game that people wanted - that we wanted. We would end up delivering two watered down products," said Hill. He also said that Warner Brothers was really good about not forcing them to do multiplayer in a market where multiplayer games rule. One of...

"Batman: Arkham City" has performed exceptionally well; that's the four VGAs, nearly unanimous critical praise, and millions in sales variety of "exceptionally well." Rocksteady Studios and Warner Bros. would like to thank you for filling their coffers and award shelves – companies have those, right? – by throwing a couple freebies your way.
Today, those who have purchased one of the game's many unlockable Batman skins no longer have to finish the game completely to access their outfits. What's more, everyone is getting a free downloadable Bat-suit tomorrow, in the style of Grant Morrison's "Batman Incorporated."
Posting on the official "Arkham City" site, game director Sefton Hill announced this morning that the suit access and free skin were to show Rocksteady's appreciation for the game's success.
